Very good vid. 👍🏽👍🏽 Like you detailed explanation in a short time. No need to go for the whole 20min vids.
wow is good to see your yt growing so much ( i got a barrina light)
8:19 you could label them with the names of the parents in this case Big Vigorous x Darvin
the manual from the kit i got from water stones told me to place them in ice cold water for 8 hours and then place in fridge for 3 weeks to prepare for germination, is this part of the process?
I recently bought a Venus fly trap the surface is covered in moss and white mould is appearing all over the moss and also on some of the traps.i have ordered some neem oil in spray form should it kill the moss and should the plant recover?
Grear vid btw. I cant keep flytraps alive to save my life lol.
It can be tricky, but once you figure it out, it's not too bad.
@CarnivorousPlantsHub I'm sure you've covered this in your videos but what medium should I use? I have done spaghenum mostly and also Pete moss s*** man. I can't get a damn venus to grow
I use peat, but make sure to rinse it. With some perlite and silica sand. I've seen some pretty high tds peat out of the bag.
You mentioned Steven? Is he at California carnivores? Would like to try the traps from seeds.
We bought my 7 year old a seed kit from Lowe’s and I dropped it by accident am I screwed? I haven’t seen any signs of sprouting and we did this like 2 weeks ago but I dropped it yesterday 😢
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear this. Dropping it probably didn't hurt the seeds. However, it can take longer than 2 weeks. I'd wait a month before giving up. How many seeds?
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub My kit was in a bowl /terrarium (I planted the seeds in the soil 3 days ago) but my dog knocked it from the window sill where it sat. I also had plastic wrap to seal the bowl for humidity, and decided to unwrap it since I had to re-pack the soil. This allowed the soil/seeds breathe, but I'm wondering, do you think the seeds will still be able to grow, or did moving the soil around from the fall mess things up? I dont know how deep they are now, if they are deep. Some could still be close to the sutface!
Hey! I just got a janky little Venus flytrap kit for Xmas. It’s winter in Canada and sunlight is sparse. Should I wait until spring to plant these seeds?
(Says seed origin is holland if that means anything)
Appreciate any advice.
I really want to start this correctly.
So to keep them watered while germinating, should I let them drink from the bottom or pour from the top?
Either mist them, or more preferably, use bottom watering. This is so the water doesn't flood the top and uproot every single plant
i cant find anywhere where these plants are each store i see they are mostly drowning them in a pot with over filled water or they have these flys that dig into the dirt eat the roots and lay eggs to destory the plant so now i wanna grow my own plant thats healthy
Is nice to see another video from you. It’s been a while. Hope your holidays are good and received my email in the Pings
How do you prevent mold under the humidity domes? Mine tend to grow fuzz as the sprouts split. The fuzz is mainly on the seed shells. 😭
A little bit is inevitable. I usually pick it out. But once thr plants start growing I remove thr domes. Usually 60 days of dome maybe longer depending on how the growth is going.
How long do they take to germinate after planting?
30 to 60 days.
I planted some seeds last year. They germinated. And thier close to a year old like half an inch tall. When can I start separating them so thier not all bunched up?
How high should the humidity be in the dome?
I've never measured in the dome, but I'm guess it's 100%.
I have little demons aka young cats and was thinking of doing the terrarium method to protect the Venus fly traps....what are your thoughts? Thank you ❤
Terrariums for flytraps can be tricky. Mostly because of dormancy but they are also prone to crown rot with too much constant water and hundity. I'd recommend maybe like a little plant cage. I've used those before and they keep cats out.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub how do you put them outside after the grow light?
So how much water do put in those trays from the dollar tree
Great video thank you! Do you have a link for the guy you buy seeds from? TIA
Hi so I understand the grow light but do you use a heatpad or heat lamp?
I do not. I've never used a heat pad or lamp. I usually grow my seeds inside under a light.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub ok thank you so even if it's coldish in a tile garage a growlight is all you need.
I probably wouldn't let seedlings get too cold. I'd wait until it warms up a bit. They will do better when it's warmwr.
Is Savior a good brand to buy Venus fly trap seeds from it’s on Amazon and also how many seeds should I put into the soil.
I've never personally bought from them but I know it's risky buying seeds on Amazon. I'd go with California Carnivores or Stephen Wang, who sells them on facebook in carnivorous plant groups.
Imma have to grow from seeds eventually I keep killing mine I keep forgetting to water them and they dry out and die
When is the best time of year to plant venus fly trap seeds
It depends on how you are growing them. Under grow lights? Anytime of the year really. Outside? Probably spring. I do recommend growing them indoors though, as you have a lot more control over their climate. Then moving them outside once they've grown a bit.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub so I need to get a grow light thanks I'm just getting into the hobby I've kept a couple Walmart ones for almost a year now and I hope to keep them growing for longer I just bought some seeds I thought I was getting a plant but they send me seeds and I was just trying to find some more information about it thanks you have been a big help
How do you deal with fungus gnats? Because my flytraps always have to stay moist, I have had to deal with gnats virtually every time I have flytraps. It's insanely irritating and then they spread to the rest of my plants.
They can stay moist but if you have constant gnats let the top of the soil dry out but only the top soil. As long as the bottom of the pot is wet/ moist they will be perfectly fine. They have long roots so as long as the bottom is wet they’ll be fine. I’ve had one of my flytraps dry out but I watered it and it came back to life. I live in Georgia and we usually have wet cold winter months so they are very susceptible to mold so I just let them dry a bit. Hope this helps !
@@marioortiz7264 The issue is mine are basically seedlings right now. They are about 3 months old so they are tiny which I imagine means their roots aren't very deep yet. Gnats are so irritating and one of the little seedlings appears to have died (not sure if it just went dormant but I dont think they do that when they are this young). I think the larvae just destroyed the little seedling roots. Is hydrogen peroxide safe? Neem?
@@MikeAK44 I think hydrogen peroxide would be safe but I think they do go dormant no matter what becuz they need to. I had a smaller one go dormant last year and it was fine as long as there is some green new smaller growth coming out. I hope it works out well!
What does it mean “water continues to get wicked” up because of paper towel?
What can happen is a price of perlite can get stuck in a hole. Or even a gap. Perlite doesn't absorb water or wick it up. The paper towel stays between thr substrate and the water, always giving the water a way to wick up.
None of my seeds sprouted but 1, and that one germinated, grew a single leaf and died 😭
I don’t know what went wrong but I’m willing to try again.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that!
My fungus gnats are taken care of by my pings! There the best plants got those buggers,
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS KEEP THE SUBSTRATE WET OR MOIST....NO NEED FOR HUMIDITY DOME
I've split tested both. Humidity dome vs keeping wet was significantly better.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub from my experience keeping the medium moist always hastens flytrap growth though I'm using leafcuttings
how about ebay
You keep talking about seeds from Steven, but who is Steven lol?
Stephen Wang! He runs the channel Ev and Em Carnivorium. He sells seeds on Facebook and Imstagram. More of a private seller. But once think you can reach out to him on Instagram! instagram.com/ev_and_em_carnivorium?igsh=bXIzN2swMmo5ZWU5
I was not very good at the venustrap plants. Because they died.
