Interstate Love Song is a track you'd really like by Stone Temple Pilots!
Nobody ever mentions "Piece of Pie" from the same album. That song goes just as hard.
I've never looked up what the band had to say about this song, but what I see in this song is the depiction of the ego-maniacal mindset of a rapist. When he's saying "I know you want what's on my mind" he's not asking because in his world he is the most important thing. Not the singer, the character the song portrays. "I said I'm gonna get close to you. You wouldn't want me have to hurt you to." doesn't sound very consensual. Later in the song there's this "I'm gonna give you something that you won't forget. I said you shouldn't have worn that dress.", which I believe is a reference to victim-blaming, such as "Did you see what she was wearing? She was asking for it!".
Exactly what i interpreted it as as soon as I heard it when it was released. Very dark.
I saw a video interview on this song and it is definitely about Date Rape. Extremely dark but very very powerful. There is also a concert of him doing it live and he comes out in a dress with some make up on. Makes a comment to the audience about it. I love this song.

Yeah… Biker bar music= Motörhead and anything from Blue Öyster Cult’s first three records (including (especially?) ‘On Your Feet Or On Your Knees’).
This album, Core, was what really got me into rock. Growing up white, I was obviously into Bone Thugs, Snoop, Cube, Dre, etc. Someone gave me this cassette because they didn't like it. I fell in love with every song. From Dead & Bloated to Where the River Runs. Easily in my top 10 albums that I can listen to front to back.

A couple of other good songs by STP are "Meat Plow" and "Kitchenware and Candy-bars".

Cali 90s band represent! Scott Weilands voice had that awesome 90s rock tone but yet something in his voice was different, like a touch of soul with it or something. Thats like the main difference and the song writing, and like the music arrangement in most of their songs different than say other cool bands of that time Pearl Jam or Smashing Pumpkins. And like just something special about it fits the spirit of Cali. I was an 13 yr old skateboarder girl skating around hearing it on the airwaves, I could pick up on the vibe of their music even then. Great times.. and Scotts cover of Dancing Days (led zepplin) is a must. Although nobody will really ever replace Scott, the new singer does encompass him vocally to a degree and they are still going strong even today with the an acoustic song called Three Wishes. I hope to see more reactions on STP in the future! Still Remains, Lounge Fly, Sour Girl, Plush (MTV unplugged version), Wicked Garden, Silvergun Superman, are some good ones to react to.
