  • When you walk in to a room to give a talk, you have about 30 seconds to hook your audience, and some of that time is before you even open your mouth to speak. So it’s really important that you’re well aware of how you enter the room. Watch and learn my simple formula to help you own the room - with Tricia Karp at TriciaKarp.com

If someone in the audience is talking and laughing while you are speaking, just say “EXCUSE ME, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SHARE WITH THE REST OF US?” That should quiet them and bring you respect. I remember this trick the teachers used to use in the New York City public schools. And you know what? It works.

(fme) Totally depends on the situation and audience. Teacher to children, who are often insecure and easily embarrassed, it can work. If you have little authority, it could backfire and sound arrogant.

Terrific video. Content and especially delivery. Perfect tempo, enunciation, hand gestures, smiling eyes and mouth, grooming, vocabulary, etc. Subscribed, and will watch again while taking notes.

Being authentically who you are rather than deceptive and manipulative is the best way to hook your audience. People who are aware will feel your energy and its something you cant fake. And someone wired for the wisdom necessary to be authentically in service to humanity rather than themselves will have all the charisma and clarity necessary.

Very bad comment. What if you are an authentic bastard? Are you going to be authentic and piss everybody off? If you know you are a jackass , try to present a different face to the audience and get along with people. Sometimes faking it is the way to go.

Short answer: Cartwheels... nobody will have seen it coming and you'll immediately get their attention... right before security escorts you from the building.
