I've never been a musical fan so I was a little distraught at being dragged along to this by my girlfriend in Sydney last week. I thought it was going to suck big time. Wow. How wrong could I be? I loved it. The songs, production, acting, costumes etc were awesome. This song, in particular, was a showstopper. I got goosebumps listening to it on here again. Thanks Jemma Rix. You changed this narrow-minded guy's opinion on the medium of musical theatre with your wonderful, wonderful talent.
sonofmunson There's a wide world of musicals out there for you to experience if you haven't already began that journey. :) There's different shows for different kinds of people. I personally love Les Miserables, Rent, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
Do you have a Google plus accounts? If so I can send you Jems Autograph. :) I got it. Also if you want Suzies. Or the whole cast. He he. There was a signage at the end of the last perth show. 💗💕💞
+sonofmunson i dragged my rural aussie boyfriend alot to the melbourne performance last year, and he was really annoyed at me for it.. Boy did he change his mind once watching it, said it was the most incredible thing hed watched in his life....
her belting. is. perfect. I mean yooo... how does she even sound like that? every note is so full of power, so full of everything that makes elphaba. wow.
I saw Jemma Rix in Wicked Manila and OMG she's one of my favorite Elphabas. I also love Idina Menzel. AMAZING because Defying Gravity is a very hard song to sing.
God stuck Australia with all sorts of deadly animals. Sharks. Crocodiles. Spiders. Snakes. He thought I've gone too far. Maybe I should give them something nice. I know. I'll give them Jemma Rix. She's gorgious!
God, she's bloody fantastic. So lovely in person too! Met her a couple of times and did a workshop with her and she was full of knowledge and just a top chick. Absolute role model and hands down Elphaba ever!
Just so very beautiful! No words are enough to do justice to this lady. But for a start she is stunning. She is as good looking as a 1950s pin up model. Her voice is amazing and her performance is full of energy and spirit. She does not have the fear that some express in the start of Defying Gravity with Elphaba on the run from the Ozian authorities but she does display sheer exuberance as Elphaba might in the realisation of her power and ability to fight. This is glorious. Another favourite! Someone hand this lady a bouquet of green roses!
You just stumbled across a video of Wicked on Sunrise, and then claim that Jemma Rix is not amazing? On my post. Because I said she was. (btw even better in real life, the show is amazing). Yeh you can see how I might not totally believe you. Especially when you made that comment about 1 minute after calling me stupid on the other one and you went to the trouble of creating a circle (whatever that is) just so you could harass me. Seriously, what is your problem?
Jemma is the best elphaba by far and no one can bring her down her voice is just amazing, saw her live in wicked and now I want to go back to see it next year and expect that she's there 😀
Jemma is my favourite Elphaba and I have seen a few. She's just flawless and her voice is absolutely stunning and she's so passionate! She's just perfect.
Wow! Definitely the most impressive vocals I’ve heard on this song. Very impressive vocal technique, and the purity of those last notes sung in the mix voice are spot on!
Jemma Rix is OUTSTANDING and is THE ABLSOLUTE BEST elphaba I've ever seen. I soooooooo wish I could go and c her again. Her defying gravities never fail to give. Go Jemma!!
Jemma Rix is one of my all time favourite Elphabas partly due to the fact that I got the amazing chance to see her live. She naturally has a strong Australian accent and she managed to sustain an American accent for around 2 whole hours while simultaneously singing incredibly
Seen this awesome ephie twice and my god she is just amazing. I love her! I've tried listening and watching all the other Elphaba's - even Broadway and no one, no one can compare!! Same goes for glinda ;)
I'm so glad I saw Jemma sing blast night! She took my breath away and my heart skip a beat! Her voice is amazing and to find this clip of her singing is amazing. But this is the last time there coming to Perth..... :( I do hope they will come back though! That would make my day. Maybe even my life! 😃💗 that girl has talent.
I was looking this song especially from her now I find it thank you Dream Mender for uploading this video. I like this performance so much and song very nice. Keep it up Jemma Rix good job.
My parents went and saw this in 2014. I saw some 16-18 year olds from YABC doing it yesterday and was amazing and I am so upset I didn’t see the Broadway show!
Ive been lucky enough to see Wicked 5 times all up including Idina Menzel and Gemma Ricks as Elphaba and I absolutely believe Gemma is the best Elfie there is! Cannot wait to see her in Frozen! :)
Omg, I saw her perform live in Perth 2015, and she left me in awe, I literally couldn't breathe because I was so taken away by her performance 😭 I was so grateful for being apart of the drama department in HS since this was going to this performance was one of our excursions 🥲 changed my life
Shes my favorite elphaba. Ive seen her perform life and her voice felt like i was on a wind tunnel or something. Incredible. I love her take on the character and her version of the songs are powerful but it still has that gentle feel to it
Willemijn Verkaik and Jemma Rix are the best elphabas in my opinion. The emotion and vocal talent is unbelievable. Now I will say even though she is NOT vocally up to par with with a lot of elphabas, I do enjoy Idina menzel in that role as well. Now I know Idina was definitely not the best singer, but she had some good moments and good performances I will say. Idina had that attitude and character of elphaba though that I love, that makes me enjoy her as the role. Never wanting to give up and going for what you believe in is why idina is in my top 5 elphabas with of course willemijn and Jemma being up there with her. But her excessive breathing in defying gravity I also enjoy because you get this sense that elphaba is scared and is almost having a panic attack, and it fit the character PERFECT in my opinion. I mean you're about to have a whole country hate you even though you know you did nothing wrong, but even though scared and showing she is still willing to fight for what she believes in which exactly why I loved Idina as elphaba. She brought so much inspiration and courage to that character with also saying its ok to be a little vulnerable.
+James Bowers A fried of mine recently brought this to the point. Idina has a brilliant generic voice, perfect Disney. o depth no uniqueness, absolute perfect standard. If you listen to the Duth or German version of Let it go (both sung by Wilemeijn Vekaik) there is so much more emotion and uniqueness in the voice, but I guess that is why Disney love her. Perfectly musical standard.
I agree with this 100% singing wise, Eden Espinosa, Jemma Rix, and Donna Vivino are my favorite Elphabas, but acting wise, Idina is my favorite, of course I'm biased, she was my first Elphaba
Thank you ! Idina is the first Elphaba I knew and she always will have a special place in my heart even now I actually love Willemijn more because she can sing effortless ! But Idina has this little thing who makes Elphaba so real ! And Jemma is amazing too !! Those 3 Elphabas are my favourite
My God, this woman's voice is like an angel. She's probably a better singer than Idina, but I still prefer Idina's version for some reason. I've watched just about every Elphaba variant possible, and I just think Idina's little "quirks" that some folks gripe about actually MAKE the character. Jemma is phenomenal though!
yea... i have *guy* voice in the morning... but i love how all the Elphebas can sing this song so wonderfuly and yeah, i will never be able to do this, but still AMAZING! ❤
I dont even like to talk before 8am.
let alone sing on any level
and she is belting out an F.
incredible
a sustained, resonant F :')
Wickedly Oz Two F's... Two god damn F's at 7:51 in the morning. HOW
Danniel Stephens are you guys freaks? How did you know it was an F?
jookieapc the F "deFYing gravity" is written to score, she hits it perfectly. As always.
anyone who has watched Glee knows it's a high F.
I've never been a musical fan so I was a little distraught at being dragged along to this by my girlfriend in Sydney last week. I thought it was going to suck big time. Wow. How wrong could I be? Angus Gibson We're in Melbourne next month so we're heading to The Lion King at The Regent Theatre. I'm ridiculously excited.
+sonofmunson i dragged my rural aussie boyfriend alot to the melbourne performance last year, and he was really annoyed at me for it..
Boy did he change his mind once watching it, said it was the most incredible thing hed watched in his life....
Thankfully I've seen her live and she is definitely the best ever
Spectacular! Jemma's voice just floats like a dream! Was lucky enough to see her live, and she was simply flawless, I was absolutely blown away
i saw her live in Frozen as Elsa
Hands down the best live singer I have ever seen in my life.
May I correct you there! She is the best singer in the world.
Pug Girl Plays u know it ;)
Mike D:)
Search Regine Velasquez
her belting. is. perfect. I mean yooo... how does she even sound like that? every note is so full of power, so full of everything that makes elphaba. wow.

"hey sport, remember when you were a small bab, and i held you up on the background of the wicked witch singing defying gravity???"
Just so very beautiful! No words are enough to do justice to this lady. But for a start she is stunning. She is as good looking as a 1950s pin up model. And who would want to dance with anyone other than Elphaba at the Oz Dust?
I saw Jemma in Melbourne and she is absolutely incredible. She's perfect. Tough to sing this song before 8am, sheesh!
She is amazing, gives me shivers just listening. I cannot wait to see her live.
Not really...
Dude are you stalking me now. This is getting pretty sad.
Okay Realtalk I honestly just stumbled across this video and I noticed you you here. No lie.
You just stumbled across a video of Wicked on Sunrise, and then claim that Jemma Rix is not amazing? On my post. Because I said she was. (btw even better in real life, the show is amazing). My okay I didn't stumble across it. My sister wanted me to watch it.
Saw Wicked on Saturday night it was amazing. Defying Gravity was incredible. Jemma Rix was outstanding.
When she hits peak resonance at 3:37. Uggh, I had such an eargasm 😂😂. No vibrato, just straight tone and an open vowel.
Bring Jemma to Broadway!!!!!!
Or Alice
Is it strange that I think she makes green skin look attractive?
+Angus Gibson No. I totally agree :)
Hell no! Elphaba Thropp, Ozian green skinned Varga girl!
Ahahhahahahahhahahhahahahahh
Well some people say its easy being green
She does look gorgeous in green I gotta admit
she's perfect….love her eyebrow expressions
Go Jemma!!
Her riffs are amazing!!!
Jemma Rix is one of my all time favourite Elphabas partly due to the fact that I got the amazing chance to see her live. She naturally has a strong Australian accent and she managed to sustain an American accent for around 2 whole hours while simultaneously singing incredibly

This was shot before 8 AM? My God..... unreal
Will never stop listening to this. Still makes me emotional
Saw Wicked tonight at the Capitol! SO AMAZING!!
Jemma is such a lovely person!
3:34 I am OBSESSED with that grace note
I had the honour of doing a singing workshop with her as a mentor. She is stunning!
who the heck disliked this? She's absolutely amazing!
GO JEMMA! So outstanding!
I was looking this song especially from her now I find it thank you Dream Mender for uploading this video. I like this performance so much and song very nice. Keep it up Jemma Rix good job.
I am just as obsessed with Wicked as I was back in 2014, this still gives me goosebumps, she's amazing.
Saw her in Auckland late last year, amazing voice, gave me chills, she is incredible live!
My FAVORITE Elphabaaaa!!! She effortlessly sings those high notes. I cried when she sang this back in Manila.
She makes it look so effortless. Love her.
She should play Elphie in the movie
YES
YESSSSSS!!!!!!! SHE IS AMAZING!!
No. She's great but there are better Elphabas.
If only she was
This this comment is 9 years ago
I love her "Sky!" riff.
Wow ! She has a Wicked voice !!
My parents went and saw this in 2014. I saw some 16-18 year olds from YABC doing it yesterday and was amazing and I am so upset I didn’t see the Broadway show!
Jemma, You are the only Elphaba for me.😍 I wish you always be happy and hope to see your performances again.
Ive seen her perform years ago! 😍😍😍
SHES AMAZING!!!! Her voice is so good it sounds like auto tune even though it’s not
Love her look and facial expressions.Looks bewitching
Absolutely incredible!!
Jemma, Idina Menzel and Myra Ruiz (from Brazil) are the best
Singing Defying Gravity from Wicked the Musical before 8am, she isn't just good. She is GREAT.
Fingers crossed she gets to play Elphaba in the upcoming movie Wicked
I saw Jemma and she was amazing!

GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS
Omg, I saw her perform live in Perth 2015, and she left me in awe, I literally couldn't breathe because I was so taken away by her performance 😭 I was so grateful for being apart of the drama department in HS since this was going to this performance was one of our excursions 🥲 changed my life

Hair raising as always. She's my fave Elphaba! :P

generic? I've never heard a voice similar to Idina's

sooo awesome . thank you
Eyebrows on point for the role!
I know they on fleek
absolute best Elphaba, and a super nice person in real life too.
Flawless
Awesome
사랑해요 엘피❤️
All of that in the morning
yea... i have *guy* voice in the morning... but i love how all the Elphebas can sing this song so wonderfuly and yeah, i will never be able to do this, but still AMAZING! ❤
Great work Jem!
ayjuesupinshimadre!
me puso la piel de gallinas
impecable! wow!
DAAAAANG THIS GIRL IS GOOOOD!!! SHE IS MENDELZ TWIN!!! :)
Jemma Rix, Eden Espinosa, Dee Rosicoli, Rachel Tucker, and Willejmijn Verkaik are considered as the show's longest running Elphaba's!!
Rachel Tucker? Jemma, Eden, Dee, and Willejmijn have been Elphaba WAY longer than Rachel Tucker.
Brilliant!!
My favourite Elphaba
That down was soooooo fucking smooth !
She will always be my favourite Alphaba
Shes the scariest elphaba. She looks the most like I pictured her before seeing the show.
IDINA MENZEL AKA ELPHABA
DEFYING GRAVITY no one will ever bring me down NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
That guy in the background acting like the baby is Simba tho
And now she's playing Elsa!
Fantastic
WHAT A QUEEEENNN
Genuinely want to be friends with the cutie in the back holding the Wicked poster!
She deserves to be in the movie adaptation (if there will be *hoping tho*)
For me it's a close call between Jemma Rachel and Idina for favorite Elphaba.
I agree. They're all so talented so it makes it really hard to pick just one favourite.
I think this version is better than idina menzel's one.
the control of her voice is to be studied. So many young Elphaba get away with screaming. This is how you do it, ladies!
