I saw amigurumi kits yesterday at my local Dollar Tree! They’re very simple but are definitely aiming to be Woobles dupes. Might be interesting to see if they’re any good. (Hint, hint!) 😂
I tried the avocado kit. I found the pattern to be hard to read/understand. I consider myself an intermediate/beginner when it comes to amigarumi, so it could have just been me. Also, my kit didn’t give me enough yarn to finish the project. I ended us getting frustrated and tossed it. 🤷🏻♀️.

I am so afraid that after I am gone a some poor person has to go through all the knit & crochet items and accessories (not to mentionI the yarn shop I have in my bedroom) have purchased over the years is going to think I am crazy. I think it would be fun to find a young knit/crochet enthusiastic person whom I can list as the benifiary of my craft items. How fun would that be.
Old school tools to determine the weight of the yarn is too look at the Guage box that has a figure of knitting needles. The box is 10 x 10 cm, or apox 4 inches. In the center is the recommend needle size. The bottom of square you will see the number of stitches in 4 inches. Divide the number if stitches by 4 to get the stitches per inch. 5 stitches per inch = worsted weight or a 4 weight, 6 = sport 3 weight 5.5 = dk, 4.5 = light bulky and so on. It looked liked the skein you had was 18 stitches per 4 inches or 4.5 stitches to the inch so a heavier worsted weight 4. Hope this helps.
I bought that 4.5mm metal dollar tree hook back in November and it’s held up really well! I’ve used it for several projects, and I like it a lot. It’s pretty comparable to the Clover hook I have in the same size (though I’m a cheapskate and usually prefer the basic susan bates hooks w/ a grippy lol)
Bought DT Just Chenille yesterday and really liked it. I have never worked with chenille type yarns before. I have been crocheting since I was 8 and I am 70 now. I started crocheting amigurumi about a year ago but never plushies. Yesterday was my first experience with it and I made 4 Axoloti to give away to the neighbor kids. My experience was similar to your demo when frogging and a little shedding after trimming the ends off, but was easy to work with. Can’t beat the price for small projects.
I have the metal hooks in 4.5 and 5.0. I have been using them for about a year now and they are my go to hook. I have made amigurumi, scarves and sweaters. Mine do not drag but I am not going to say they didn't in the beginning. They are well loved. Price bonus❤
The plastic hooks are great for traveling. I am always dropping them between the seat of the car. No big loss. I haven't tried the metal ones yet. The color pop yarn is pretty. The magnets work well as needle minders. I glue a cute button on the top to pretty them up.
Hi Elise and right now I am working on my cottage core mosaic blanket and granny squares blanket and butterfly mosaic blanket and a baby blanket and I love your channel and your videos and if you keep making videos I will keep watching them and what is your favorite crochet project to work on right now and favorite types of yarn to used when crocheting and keep up the great work on your UA-cam channel and keep up the great work on your crochet projects
Our current dollar tree is a closet and we have barely any of the things you showcased but we are getting a huge one and I am excited! I use the cutting mats as a place to put my hot glue gun when I am using and they make great mouse pads.
Thanks for this review of Dollar Tree crochet hooks, I've been wondering about them. My grandson(9) has expressed an interest in crochet recently. He's been trying to get his tension just right. He asked me for his own supplies. I didn't really want to give him mine but not sure if I should spend money on items from craft store or cheaper products from Dollar Tree. This was so helpful. I'll be planning a trip with him to the dollar Tree for his first hooks. Thanks , keep doing what you do❣️
YOUR Dollar tree is very well stocked with yarn. I'm in Ontario, Canada & the Dollar tree store in my area has minimal yarn one or bins. Last week I liked what I saw & tried Crafter's square twist yarn $1.50 CDN. I made a bucket hat for my 2 yr old grand daughter & I'm very happy with the soft texture. Thank you.
Have you tried the website? I'm not sure how the shipping situation would be for Canada. But, I am able to ship to my local store for free. I think you have to buy their yarn in groups of 4, if I remember right. The color options online are beautiful, though, since you aren't limited to what your store has.
i've been crocheting about 3 years now and about a year or so ago decided to try knitting, but didnt wanna spend a bunch of money on knitting needles so i actually got some from the dollar tree and thats how i learned i liked knitting. really a great way to know if your gonna like a craft or not
Hi Elise, I use both Dollar Tree hooks, and I like using them. I agree there are not enough sizes to choose from. I've been using both hooks for about 2 years and they are holding up well. I agree the plastic hooks are not ideal for working tight stiches or if you have a tight grip. I teach children to crochet and I don't recommend using the plastic hooks, though the colors are pretty. Thanks for sharing.
I L❤️VE, L❤️VE, L❤️VE, when you do these types of videos! Now, you are making me want to go to my local Dollar Tree, and see if they have what you just purchased. ☺️
I use the cutting mat for putting on my safety eyes with the safety eye tool you demonstrated. The chalkboard stickers that’s a great idea. I’m going to try that. I haven’t been able to find the crochet hooks, I’ll be on the lookout though. God bless have a great week
We LOVE our Helix mattress! I have bone and spine metastasis so I deal with a good deal of pain; the Helix mattress is my ride or die. No matter where I am - vacation in paradise, visiting our son in Chi, family houses; I ALWAYS miss my mattress! Not even kidding! HAD to share. Benjamin isn’t the only one who is happy, lol. And the “cool” feature!!! LOVE. Also, FUN video!!! Thank you! Xxxxx ☺️🫶🏻☺️ ~ Lisa in OH
my first hook was actually a dollar tree 5.5 mm hook and it's really good and holds up well. I use it for the dollar tree chenille yarn and some that are a bit thicker.
Thanks for the video! I have never seen the hooks at my local store. My three daughters also like to crochet. When my oldest comes for a visit, I always lose a skein of yarn and a crochet hook, because she will start a project and then take it home with her. lol 😂. I am going to stock up on the yarn and hooks so she can use those next time. 😂❤ Also, I found a cure hook storage at the Dollar Tree in the toy section. It’s a pink “Barbie” clothes & accessory bag. It’s a pink canvas with a clear top and a zipper closure. I keep my hooks in it along with a small notebook, a pen, scissors, stitch markers and a darning needle in it. It’s easy to grab when I am working on a project and has everything I need.
As someone who started with the Yarniss set from amazon, I love that the Dollar Tree hook has less drag 😂 I love the Just Yarn from DT, they offer such pretty colors! And the storage options from DT, obsessed! My home organization has skyrocketed since a DTopened in my town; I love the variety of options, and they have some great quality ones, all for $1.25!
I really like the Dollar Tree☺️ you never know what treasures you will find. I’m currently enjoying those hooks that came in your mystery box! I use the tiny mat for quilting, when I want to keep it close to my machine. Have a great weekend ☺️💕👍🏼🧶
I always enjoy your videos. You are so professional, yet warm and inviting!! I have learned so much from you!! The Dollar Tree near me does have a craft aisle, but not at all like yours. I will be on the hunt! Wishing you much continued success❤
I'm obsessed with the dollar tree crochet hooks they are my favorite. I actually really like that they flex and they have never broken on me even making really tight things. I use the smaller ones too. I like that they are not as slippy as metal but don't drag as bad as wood.
I was at my one of my local Dollar Trees yesterday, and it’s so true they are hit and miss. I get excited when they have what I came to buy. Nothing but the tiny cotton yarn skeins. I’ve been waiting for hooks to show up.
What an excellent review. Not everyone remembers to think about how people who hold their hook and yarn differently might fare. The majority of my hooks (even ergonomic ones) are less than $3. Now I have more to hunt down! I hate plastic hooks but the bendy ones are too cute and your review sold me.
Thank you elise for this video i have had both the plastic and the metal hooks for a year or two from the dollar tree and I use them more than the big name brands . I take them in my car to use when away from home I keep them in a dollar tree pencil holder so I don't loose them
Another great video thank you. One of my favorite items I buy from dollar tree for my crochet is the essentials heavy duty storage bags. They come in 2 sizes L and XXL. The L size has 2 bags per box the XXL just has one per box. These bags are ziplock and have a nice handle. These are so great for holding your yarn and your crochet project as you’re working on it. I wish I could add a picture of the box but I don’t know how to do that. You can find it on the dollar tree website. I just checked the website you can buy 48 of them for$60. They can be hard at times to find them in the stores at times.
I was watching the video and laughing because I can relate to you. Even though we don't know each other, we are so alike. I go to Dollar Tree and do the same. They have so many cute things, and in my mind, I always find something to do with them 😂😂😂!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us every one of your findings❤!!! I appreciate you lots ❤🌹🥰!!!
I bought the yarniss hook set and use it all the time. ❤ I've been crocheting for over 30 years. Soap and water is a great idea, thanks! I don't care for the yarns at Dollar Tree either. I have gotten a lot the little things you have they are awesome things to help with organizing!
I have about 6-8 of the metal crochet hooks from dollar tree. I keep one in my “travel “ bag. I like to crochet at the doctor office or if I take the train to work. I like the hook because if I should lose it then I don’t get upset about it. I love the idea of using the chalk and blackboard stickers. Definitely going to use that idea. Thanks for sharing. Hugs to you and the kitties.
I love the metal dollar tree crochet hooks. they are my go to for projects between G and I. I don't like the plastic ones. I also love their small circular storage containers for the backs of my safety eyes.
I absolutely love the dollar tree metal crochet hooks, they are something i look for every time i go I've been using them for about 6 months and they are holding up really well. For the just chenille, I know it's listed as a #6 but I've found it to be closer to a #4 and works well with amigurumi using a 4mm hook
I've recently become obsessed with crocheting to your videos. Your videos are really good and makes the crochet experience a lot more enjoyable and relaxing. I started crocheting to help with my anxiety (and I love making anything and everything with anything and everything). I found your videos super early on in my crochet journey and I'm super happy I did
Hi Elise, I picked up a skein of the Just Yarn Worsted a long while ago with the intention of splitting it and making some Barbie clothes. Though I really like how it feels, I haven't put it to work yet. That's only because I kinda stopped making Barbie clothes for a bit to focus more on my sock knitting skills. I'm a big fan of notebooks too! And, I use the style you picked up for keeping track of my blood sugar numbers, insulin doses, and meal notes - like what I ate and the carb grams from food labels. I love the mini glass "cookie jar" style jars you picked up! Besides making me think of my granny's cookies, 😊 I think they'll be perfect for sorting and storing my smaller leftover yarns and your colorful yarn bobbins will look gorgeous in them too! The last crafty items I bought at Dollar Tree was a plastic, circular, 8 compartment, flip-top storage piece to put my lightbulb stitch markers in. I'm also a fan of the composition books I find at Dollar Tree. I started keeping track of my finished objects (knit and crochet) in them and I use them for project planning, genealogy notes, hook and needle inventory, yarn stash and anything else I might need them for. Lol! There's always a good use for them. Anyway, thanks for the wonderful video, Elise. You always have such great ideas and inspire me to keep creating. ✌️💜🧶
I have purchased quite a bit of yarn from Dollar Tree. I do like the cotton and also the tweed blend. I've not seen crochet hooks but I'll specifically look for them next trip. Thanks for all the reviews! They are very helpful!
I found my first crochet hook from Dollar Tree after not crocheting for 20 years and it was the first one you featured. It is my favorite and looks the same as when I purchased it over a year ago. I use it almost daily as I do crochet daily now after my long hiatus. I have the 5.5m. The just yarn is by Premier so it's nice didn't like the Crafty either and all the containers are so useful. Thanks❤
Hi! I'm typing from my mum's phone. I have been watching you for some time now. I love your videos and I crochet too! I'm a teenager and I love to crochet amigurumi. I even crocheted your bunny pattern! ❤️🧶🧶🧶❤️
I got lucky and in different dollar tree stores I found all the hooks. The 3 metal and the 6 plastic I keep in my car. If I lose or break then no big deal. I find when the plastic ones get a little rough I run them through my hair and thwy are good to go again. The natural oils on the scalp work great. My dollar tree isn't that great but others around my area are better so outside of my close store I found the chenille yarn and now looking forward to using it. Thank you for the informative videos and can't wait to shop for more.
Great Video Please could do a video on how to get your movation to crochet back and Tips to make sure you finish projects before starting new ones and to get Wip finished Xxx
Great review! I take crochet projects with me when I travel so I'm always looking for inexpensive hooks because if I lost onebof my NICE hooks I would cry!! 😢 And thank you for the tup to wash residue off the hooks!!
Great information and a fantastic haul. I am in Canada, but we have dollar tree too. I will have to go see what I can find. Hopefully I'll get out with less than $75 though. 😉😂🤣
Hi Elise, thank you for sharing your Dollar Tree finds with us. ❤ I used the plastic hook from Dollar Tree when I first started crocheting, but like you, I did not like that they bend. So I upgraded to the Susan Bates hooks. Since then, though, I now use hooks with a rubber grip since it's better on my hands. 😊
I've been using the DT ergonomic metal ones for several months, and I feel they have smoothed out over time. With some acrylic yarn, it does get squeaky, but definitely gonna try the brown paper trick! Thanks for the tip ❤
My mother picked up all 3 of the hooks from Dollar Tree for me. I think they are about 5 yrs old. They definitely hold up and are actually my preferred hooks. I have many other hooks but tend to use these.
Yes, I do. I really like the hooks from Dollar Tree and all kind of yarns too. I made shells with these products very often. But in the local store does not have all the products, they just have a few of them.
If you do bead crafts, one of my favorite DT finds is a circular container with 6 pie-shaped sections. Each section seals with its own hinged lid, which is SO convenient!
Dear Elise, Thank you for sharing your haul from Dollar Tree (next time one of my family goes to the US I’m sending them to Dollar Tree to bring me some yarn 🧶😍)! I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 no DT here but we do have some Crafters Choice hooks I’ve seen in our stores (BigW and Spotlight) I purchased two sets of the plastic hooks for my friends kids a few years ago for Christmas - I’ll have to ask the girls if the hooks are okay to work with, maybe borrow one to try! I love the storage ideas 💡 Miss Olive is so sweet 😻 Glad your son has found a mattress that will relieve his pain. God’s Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏽🩷🧶💜😻🐶
Hello beautiful lady and thank you for an awesome video 💕 I’m a go to Dollar Tree person and use the yarns for smaller projects and plushies, plus the just yarn and chenille yarn are a premiere product at a smaller scale. A lot cheaper and more yardage on average. Right now premiere has their premiere basic chenille at $3.99 of only 112 yards versus two Dollar Tree skeins at $2.50(+tax) with 130 yards and it’s good yarn. I purchase as much chenille as possible at my local dollar trees bc one budget two more yards for my dollar and last why not. I love DOLLAR TREE 💙💕💙
I got the dollar tree craft scissors around 2 or 3 years ago. I keep them in my crochet bag, probably one of the only things from dollar tree that I use on a daily basis.

lol! I will take the warning seriously!!!! 😆
@@karentruscelli5708if you ever need a young person to pass your valuables onto, I'm here 😂
Old school tools to determine the weight of the yarn is too look at the Guage box that has a figure of knitting needles.
Thank you so much, Samantha! I'm working on a gorgeous blanket right now and I can't wait to share it!! Your projects sound so beautiful! 🦋
You're so funny! I LOVE LOVE al the bins n jars! How fun!
Thank you so much! I love them too! 🥰
Our current dollar tree is a closet and we have barely any of the things you showcased but we are getting a huge one and I am excited! I use the cutting mats as a place to put my hot glue gun when I am using and they make great mouse pads.
I use mine to cut mailing labels down to size for my ebay store. 😊
I’ve been using this crochet hook for over 7 months and it works amazingly
It really is a good little hook!! 🪝
Looking forward to seeing how you put all those storage containers to use
i've been crocheting about 3 years now and about a year or so ago decided to try knitting, but didnt wanna spend a bunch of money on knitting needles so i actually got some from the dollar tree and thats how i learned i liked knitting. really a great way to know if your gonna like a craft or not
Hi Elise, I use both Dollar Tree hooks, and I like using them.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Good to know your hooks have held up well! 🧶🧶🧶
I L❤️VE, L❤️VE, L❤️VE, when you do these types of videos! Now, you are making me want to go to my local Dollar Tree, and see if they have what you just purchased. ☺️
Love the magnetic buttons ❤ 😀
They are soooo helpful to have!! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet I will need to check out the U.K. stores for them :)
I use the cutting mat for putting on my safety eyes with the safety eye tool you demonstrated. The chalkboard stickers that’s a great idea. I’m going to try that. I haven’t been able to find the crochet hooks, I’ll be on the lookout though. God bless have a great week
Oh that's a great way to use that mat!!! Thanks for sharing!! 👀
I use the pink plastic container to hold cheese slices in the fridge.
Thank you for sharing, Lisa! I've been very impressed with the Helix mattress and no joke my son's back feels so much better! ❤️❤️❤️
I showed my husband her Dollar Tree footage and asked why ours has none of the items she showed...
Wow... your Dollar Tree is so nicely stocked! All my local stores have hardly any yarn craft supplies.
I have all 3 dollar tree hook sizes and these are one of my favorites to use and I am also a knife holder crocheter too.
my first hook was actually a dollar tree 5.5 mm hook and it's really good and holds up well.
Also, I found a cure hook storage at the Dollar Tree in the toy section.
It really is pretty amazing that some local Dollar Trees have a lots of things crocheters can use! 🧶🧶🧶
It’s amazing what a quick scrub with a Brillo pad did for the metal crochet hooks. They became smoother.
I have used the plastic ones from dollar tree it was a gift.i like them.
Thank you Elise! Some great storage ideas that I need in my craft room 🥰
They have such great storage solutions there!! 🧶🧶🧶
I take them in my car to use when away from home I keep them in a dollar tree pencil holder so I don't loose them
I love the glass jars and lids! I Super appreciate your video! I hope you have a awesome weekend☀️
Those are some of my favorite finds at Dollar Tree! They are thick glass and feel very sturdy!! 🧶🧶🧶
I have used the dollar store hooks for about a year and they hold up really well!
My local dollar store doesn’t have yarn but there is a bigger dollar tree about 25min away and they have so much more 😊 great review 👍🏼
I like the dollar tree metal ergonomic hook. It’s very comfortable to crochet with and I don’t mind the drag.
Thanks for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
I love your voice so much Elise ! It’s like a voice that makes me so happy idk why!! You sound like a sweet teacher ❤❤❤❤
I have a couple of them and they are fine, can't beat it for a dollar. I got mine before the price changed. 😊
I've been using the dollar hooks I bought and love them. They're comfortable to use.
I bought one of the brush organizers for my water color brushes. I liked it so much I bought another one for my crochet hooks and knitting needles.
I've recently become obsessed with crocheting to your videos. Your videos are really good and makes the crochet experience a lot more enjoyable and relaxing. I started crocheting to help with my anxiety (and I love making anything and everything with anything and everything). I found your videos super early on in my crochet journey and I'm super happy I did
Hi Elise,
I picked up a skein of the Just Yarn Worsted a long while ago with the intention of splitting it and making some Barbie clothes.
✌️💜🧶
Hello 👋 Elise. Yes I have used the yarn and hooks. There are good 👍. Not even one can afford the other hooks.
Hi Elise.
That Dollar Tree in your area is incredible, so big, and so many yarns. Thanks for the tips ❤❤❤
Omg I love this woman so much I learned so much from her and I'm crocheting right now!!!!😊
Hi Elise, thank you for sharing your Dollar Tree finds with us.
I use clear jar for my scraps too
Hi, I have one of those metal crochet hooks for a few months, and I love it. I hold my crochet needle like a pencil, and it is holding up great.
I like their yarn you have to buy a few to make a hat but they are so soft
The dollar tree hook are great. I used them to teach a classes.
I love my ergonomic handled crochet hooks from dollar tree. Even their plastic hooks work well. I’ve been using both for a few years now
I've had the silver and blue hook. For about two years. I also hold my hook like a knive too.
This was very helpful. Thank you! Especially the hooks and the different yardage of Dolllar Tree yarns!
.
Dear Elise,
Thank you for sharing your haul from Dollar Tree (next time one of my family goes to the US I’m sending them to Dollar Tree to bring me some yarn 🧶😍)!
I love the storage ideas 💡
Miss Olive is so sweet 😻
Glad your son has found a mattress that will relieve his pain.
God’s Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏽🩷🧶💜😻🐶
Hello beautiful lady and thank you for an awesome video 💕
I’m a go to Dollar Tree person and use the yarns for smaller projects and plushies, plus the just yarn and chenille yarn are a premiere product at a smaller scale.
Yarn bobbins are great if you need to head to the store to get some colors to go with what you have, can check the coordination, the weight etc.
Hi Elise❤❤ I love that you test all these things for us.
I got the dollar tree craft scissors around 2 or 3 years ago. I keep them in my crochet bag, probably one of the only things from dollar tree that I use on a daily basis.
I have had my $ Tree, # 5 hook for over a year now. It is holding up great. I just used it to make a sweater.
I got that 6.5 purple hook from a friend of a friend and it’s a favorite, so smooth :))
