Mr. Gavin I finally did it. Followed your instructions and didn't have any problems. I'm running 2 commercial food warmers 2 commercial refrigerators the air conditioner, all of the lights and 4 fans. Thanks again for all your help. OVK BBQ
Really that’s awesome man. I’m happy to hear that you’re the fifth person that’s made one and made me know about it.👍🏾😊😎
This is an EXCELLENT video. Clear, correct, simple to follow instruction. Really great! Thanks very much for showing how this can be accomplished.
Thanks
I like when you do these "how to" and "why for" videos. Entertaining and educational.
Thanks buddy👍🏾💯
Gavin thank for always posting helpful videos. Your videos have helped me save a lot of money on generator
Thanks Ulises👍🏾💯
I love this!! That's a lot of power right there!!
Yessir… 👍🏾💯
Very good video, it took me about 20 minutes from start to finish, I found the parallel wiring with the round plug on Amazon for 27.00 thanks
Great video Gavin. That’s some mega power connected there. 👍
Yessir 👍🏾
Good video. Idk why these companies don't offer a max amp plug on them. If they did you would have around 100 amps with those together. Think of the possibilities if you had 100 amps
It would be really cool if they made a transfer switch that could take all the outlets from one generator and connect them all to your panel to utilize the full power of a portable generator to the whole panel
Nice job Gavin! Thankfully, HF sells a kit to parallel the 9500s these days. Just picked one up the other day, works like a charm.
I don't see it advertised, is there a code for it?
@@johnnapiorkowski4539 I don't have a code. I picked it up in early January. They had a stack of them sitting beside the new 9500s. Wait, yeah, they have both the 30 AMP and 50 AMP kits on their site. Go to their site and do a keyword search, "inverter generator parallel kit."
Same, they only have the ones up to 5500 watts
What is the item number? I've never seen one in the store or on the Harbor Freight website.
For 120 volts only. Not for 50 amps 240 volts
I like your detail to work👍✌️
Thanks 🙏🏾 😊
That's what I'm talking about. Shameful that Harbor Freight does not do this for their own product especially since there is a built in neutral receptacle that cannot even be used unless you rig it yourself.
I know right!! they could just white label the thing paint it red👌🏾👍🏾
Facts
They’re working in one now.
Hello Gavin, I believe the newer predator 9500’s no longer have a neutral plug. I saw one at harbor freight and didn’t see the white plug.
Just bought two. They’re on it
@@kirbyreich2216 I just bought one today. The white plug is there but the picture on the box does not show the white plug.
Thanks for the info. It's easy to follow
I wonder if the genmax parallel kit would work, since they are soft plugs.
Thank you for this video Gavin! The newest Predator 9500 Inverter Generators appear to no longer have a neutral. Does that mean I could just buy the Duromax xp9000ih Parallel Kit and plug it into two Predator 9500 Inverter Generators without any modifications?
Excellent video. Very creative. Thanks
Thanks
Nice!!! What's next? Adding a neutral to the Duromax 9000ih?🤔 I would feel much better if I had a neutral in mine. If anyone can do it, it's you. 🙌
Great idea 💡
Good video. It almost looks like DuraMax has everything in place for the neutral, but just decided not to, wierd.
Yep! Exactly
Great video! Thanks, Gavin!
Thanks Matt
I would love to see you review the predator 8750 open frame inverter and the champion 8750 open frame inverter generators.
Well shot video. I understand what to do and how to do it. Should I place WHITE colored tape on the end of the NEW two each neutral wires I added. My fear is because they are black in color just like the other wire is black a second person may reverse the two black wires. If I placed white tape at the end of my two new wires that fear may be lowered. Red to Red, Black to Black, White to White.😀
Just used the white ones when you making it I had two extra black ones that’s the only reason I use those but I could just paint it white😅
Hello Gavin...question for you concerning the two preditor 9500 watt generators. Are the two Hots, Neutrals, and ground terminals coming from the 240 VAC 30 Amp 4 pole plug (far right location) .... are these terminals common (meaning each has continuity with the respective other terminal) with the opposing Red Hot, Black Hot, White Neutral, and Ground screw terminals associated with the ("parallel port terminals")? If this is the case... It seems a cleaner design would be to incorporate some 4 conductor SOO 10 Guage cable using a NEMA L14-30p 4-wire locking plug. That way it would be 30 AMP rated and cleanly tie the two generators together providing a single twist lock plug coming from each generator into the Duromax xp9000ih Parallel Kit box. My worry is there might be some unique circuitries in the parallel port terminal area that would get ignored and require only the method you have demonstrated. Thanks for your answer in advance.
We would have to chat about this. I can’t give you a straightforward answer.
@@GeneratorReviews I have since measured the continuity on the parallel ports and the L14-30 plug receptacle. The two Hots show continuity as long as the 30 AMP two pole breaker is closed. This could be a problem if the breaker were to open during operation. I now believe the PowerHorse cable should be connected in parallel between the two generators BUT not run the power through these same cables. This way the Inverters remain synchronized in frequency and voltage but we are NOT pushing the 30 amp loads through the parallel port banana connectors. I plan to run the loads through the 14-30 receptacles on each generator respectively since they all measure to have continuity. This allows the two invertors to always remain synced and it allows the loads to each have their own 2 pole 30 amp breaker for protection. This is how the PowerHorse 7500 watt generator company suggest doing it and I agree.
Thanks for sharing. This is legit
Nicely done. Thank you
Thanks
Question … most people are using there generators to run their homes in the event of an outage. Where is the benefit in running two generators in parallel if a 50A inlet can only handle around 12,500 watts total, which is less than what those two inverters combined would produce? Not a criticism but I’m trying to learn the process.
Great question. Let’s say you have a 5 ton AC and you try to start a second large load the second generator would cover the additional surge required to start the load and not trip your 5 ton AC.
Two generators also help with your generator running at 100%. It’s much better to have two Generator running at 50% for fuel efficiency, longevity and redundancy.
Great video
awesome man
It's very disturbing that Duromax doesn't connect the neutral in their parallel kit. It does specifically say 240V 30A, and 240V 50A above the receptacles, indicating it's not intended for 120/240V use, but their receptacles are 4 prong, and users will definitely be connecting their houses and/or RVs to it. This leaves your neutral floating and results in unpredictable voltages from line to neutral. One possible way it will work is if neutral is bonded to ground in the house or RV panel as well as in the generator. In this case they are using the ground as neutral, but this is definitely a code violation and a wide open for legal liability. RVs should typically not be bonded, hence why they use a 4-wire cord.
Note: you did not connect your neutral to the 30A receptacle, and I strongly suggest you do.
Thanks Gizmos
You’re right I need to connect to the 30amp as well
All great points 👍🏾
Do not connect neutral to the 30A outlet.
Duromax messed up SO much with this thing.
First, with the no neutral on the Plug *designed to have a neutral*. You try plugging anything that requires a 14-50 plug into that it will flat out not work. Things like dryers, ovens, and what not use both the 240V for the high power stuff, and 120V for circuitry. Not having a neutral will make the stuff waiting for 120V flat out not work at all. If they wanted to not have a neutral, they shouldn't have put a 14-50 outlet there, and instead put a 6-50 outlet.
Second, Two wires per screw lug in MANY locations on this device. You are really only supposed to have one wire per lug on outlets. Proper way to do it is with a proper wire splice with multiple pigtails. (They may have gotten away with it using crimp on terminals, but I don't really know if that changes the rule of one wire per terminal)
Third, the wiring diagram in the manual for this device is also completely wrong. It has both HOTS on the 14-50 outlet wired to each other. Then, it has the OTHER hot wire connected to the neutral. Finally, it has the 30A outlet labeled as an L5-30. L5 is ONLY 120V. It has one hot, one neutral, and one ground. It cannot be used for 240V. I don't know what the actual plug on the parallel kit is (it's labeled on the face of the plug itself), but since it's labeled on the front as 240V/30A, it HAS to be an L6-30. The L6-30 outlet only has two hots and a ground. NO NEUTRAL. So make sure you do not hook the neutral up to it. The way you did the neutrals on the 14-50 outlet is fine (even though those outlets are usually only designed for one wire per spot, as stated above.) At least you now have a proper neutral running to each generator, and to the neutral on the 14-50 outlet.
I don't know how the hell this thing made it past safety regulators with how it's wired.
@@Kingkoopa00I have many questions for you. On a project I'm working on
I think this is just another Chinese misunderstanding. In some countries they use just the red and black for a 220v appliances. They don't split the legs with a neutral. Looks like they offer that form of 220 with a ground and don't understand that alot if not most American 220v aplliances use seperate legs(Most AC's and some ranges). Now the funny part of all of this to me is the fact that Harbor Freight 1. Went back to Red Black Ground only connections. 2. They advertise their Par-Kit as for 50a@120v only.
I wonder how bad it would be to just link up two 30a connections to a 50a recepticle? From what I can tell the "Parallel" plugs are just another connection but without a breaker.
@@Kingkoopa00 thanks for your statement here You're really cleared a lot of things up and confirmed what I was suspecting. I've been reading all over the place to try and sort out how to make my own box to parallel two 240 volt generators but AI power did not make a parallel kit with a neutral either. Very similar to duromax. Frustrating unsafe and misleading when trying to use two units. I was thinking of doing what Gavin did here but since my generator does not have a neutral port I'm thinking I will have to use one of the outlets and wire up a plug with only a neutral. Does that logic sound correct to you?
Wouldn't you wanna unbound the neutral from the frame? If running as back up power to house. I'm learning thx
Yes, you would wanna convert it to a floating neutral. Here’s a video showing you how to do that.
ua-cam.com/video/qiXuG-lOdTo/v-deo.html
So you can parallel the Predator 9500's but can you parallel two Predator 9000's ?
If the 9000 aren’t inverter generators they cannot be paralleled
@@GeneratorReviews Thx, I appreciate it.
Gavin GREAT GREAT video...I have 2 9500 Predators and I need to do this...can you tell me where you got your neutral wires and connectors?...Also your through wall?...Again...I have learned a LOT from your videos...And i'm going to assume you have to buy a 50 amp parallel kit? Sorry for the questions...I''m not electrical savvy
Yes you’re correct! You gotta get a kit
You too good
Thanks Gregg
Next we should try to parallel the harbor freight 9500 with duromax 9000
What kit did you use to make the neutral wires? I bought a PowerHorse cable but it doesn't seem to fit. I'm thinking the neutral may be a different size socket. Tried to fit one of the wires from the DuroMax kit in the neutral socket and it doesn't seem to fit (maybe it's a safety thing so you cant plug it in wrong?) -Besides that, the PowerHorse wire is 12 awg, the DuroMax uses 10 awg
I just purchased a simple parallel kit on Amazon with the adapters I needed
@@GeneratorReviews Does awg matter for a neutral? The wires on the DuroMax kit are 10 awg.
I have a 9500 predator. Can I run from the 30 amp plug to a 50 amp plug to run a 6 tons AC with out the easy start or do I need the easy start.
Thank you for your information.
I just did this video testing my 5 ton AC I think in order for you to run your 6ton AC you’re going to need to have a soft start
ua-cam.com/video/_vZPoMpVTsY/v-deo.html
Thanks!
Thanks for the support 💯
Great video I'm considering buying 2 for my food trailer will i be able to get double the power and is there any kits that are ready-made for this
You will double your power but I haven’t seen the parallel kit available yet for this model
Can you make or send a list of parts you use in this video?
Do you think it is possible to Parallel 4 9500 units, Parallel 2, Parallel 2, to a 50 amp inputs to create 100 amp 240vac output parallel Box, then that into service panel with 240vac@ 100 amps, or build a Parallel box for all 4 generators..for full power at 125 amps, as each generators put 32 amps on 240vac
If you do it that way better be careful you don’t get 480V
If I Parallel two Preditor 9500 inverter to connect to a 50 amp connector to my main panel through a legal lock out kit, do I have to change the ground on both of the 9500 machines to floating?
Yessir
How many watts will two in parallel will these two put out in total with the 9000 watt parrel kit will we lose the extra 1000 in start up and only get 18000 peak start up power? Or up too 19000 peak? Thank you!
ua-cam.com/video/30JMZpmD460/v-deo.html
Can the cabling be extended without negatively impacting performance/operation? I have one generator that is attached the frame of a food truck and our plan is to attach the other to a generator in the back of a pickup.
I don’t think you’ll have any performance drop
@@GeneratorReviews Thanks
Hello Mr Gavin, is there any way to put a remote start on the predator 9500. Love what you teach. Thank you
It probably wouldn’t be that hard to add remote start to this generator. I know they have a kit available.
Ok thank you
👍👍👍
What is the name of the "Plugs" needed for the Neutral on the Predetor9500? Or what was the sacrificial kit used/ Thanks!
Just search parallel cable on Amazon. You’ll find a bunch of them you can use.
so does predator/harbor freight not offer an off the shelf parallel kit to run 2 predator 9500??
I haven’t seen it available yet
Does the parallel kit cause u to loose power. Calculate together you only have 7.4kw at the plug. Or 3.7 kw per.
You don’t lose surge capability but you do lose running capacity because of wire amperage the maximum is 12,500 for the 50 amp inlet plug
You don’t lose surge capability but you do lose running capacity because of wire amperage the maximum is 12,500 for the 50 amp inlet plug
Out of curiosity, why put both neutrals on one side instead of splitting them?
Because you want each generator to have it own path versus overloading one wire if one wire breaks, you still have the other one.
So is the capability of these generators to be paralleled limited to the parallel ports? I’m asking to know if It would also work to use the 30a 240v outlet from each generator and wire them directly to the bus in a small panel?
Also, I’m noticing that the photos on harbor freight website do not show the Predator 9500 as having a neutral parallel port. Did you modify yours?
No for some reason the picture has always been like that on the website
The limitations are on the ports and wire transmission so that probably would work.
have you connect a predator 8750 and a 9500 in parallel
I don’t have a 8750 but if it is power capable, should be able to work
I want that kit, please lrt me know when it's available?
Does a parallel connection double the power output or how does that work?
Yes 👍🏾
If I plan to run the generators into an inlet and not through a transfer box, do I want to leave it with no neutral?
Yes you would have to make it floating neutral
ua-cam.com/video/qiXuG-lOdTo/v-deo.html
@@GeneratorReviews thank you Gavin. So the issue with the parallel kit not having neutral doesn’t apply to me correct? Is there a way to run some type of surge protector still?
Do you recommend running a Surge Guard with the parallel setup? Thx
You can’t go wrong with a surge protector
I’ve got a Honda 2000 and a firman 2000 could I parallel those 2 and could you show a video ?
Yep you can
Cool !
Can this be done with 120V gens in parallel to make 220V with a like this ?
It can be done but not without a complete rewire, remember the ones that have 120 V they share a common hot too both legs.
@@GeneratorReviews So 120v is black and red are both hot ?
@@MJF40 yes
if you put together 2 generators of 30ap each you get 60ap?
Yes
Will using this parallel kit give me a total of 15,200 running watts?
Yes, that’s the max starting watts you will get
Where did u find that plastic thru wall and wire loom?
I got them from Amazon
Do you have a wiring video of assembling the neutral wire?
Yes check it out
ua-cam.com/video/qiXuG-lOdTo/v-deo.html
@@GeneratorReviews I meant the neutral for the parallel kit.
How would you parallel a predator 9500 inverter to a Honda 300 inverter?
That would not be a good idea to parallel those two. The Predator is 240v and the Honda is 120v
Can I safely run one generator at a time while two are in connected in parallel?
Yes you can just make sure they stay connected
You should have grounding rods attached to those generators as per the manufacturer's instructions, otherwise nothing you connect to it will have a real ground which isn't safe especially if you're going to be hooking it up to a home transfer switch or expensive RV.
And before anyone says anything it's on page 8 in the generators owners manual where it states "To ground the Generator, connect a #4 AWG grounding wire (not included) from the Grounding Terminal on the Control Panel to a grounding rod
(not included). The grounding rod must be an earth-driven copper or brass rod (electrode) which can adequately ground the Generator". Manuals for previous versions of their generators suggest a ⅝ inch diameter grounding rod no less than 36 inches in length which seems to be the standard for generators.
So would both generators be grounded to 1 grounding rod or would you only need to ground one generator?
Ok Sammy safety
How much do I have to send you to make me one? Parts and Labor! I'm tired of waiting for someone to make one and I don't have the know how myself.
When I’m ready to sell it, I’ll sell it to you
What's the best parallel kit for 2 predator 9500 to get 15200 running watts?
They Predator doesn’t have a kit on the market yet so you have to DIY one.
So I'm assuming this max power rig would be the best option for now?
Which other parallel kit did you use to get the neutral from? I've looked at a few affordable ones, but none of them have large enough gauge wires. Can you link to it?
This is the one I used, I added some wire I just need the plug
amzn.to/3T9zYu8
@@GeneratorReviews Can you make a video or describe the materials and process you used to modify this kit to make the two neutral wires?
@@NormTre no problem
I will make a more detailed video
@@GeneratorReviews That would be awesome. Thank you.
What exactly did you use as a sacrifice kit there?
The square tips for the neutral cables came from a different parallel kit
$5,000 worth of generators. Why not just get a home stand by generator?
I don’t think you would find a whole home standby generator for that price installed
Does this mean that you double your Amps ?
Yessir 👍🏾
So for an interlock kit would a 50amp breaker or a 60 amp be correct since I doubled my amps? Have a 50amp inlet plug btw
Where do you sell your used items
Hopefully I’ll have my website up and running soon, just haven’t had time to work on it but if you see something you got to have let me know we can arrange something
Another great video Gavin. Do you know if harbor freight is even still acting like they are going to make the parallel kit? Thanks, Tim.
I don’t think they will ever make it.
@@GeneratorReviews when in parallel does the eco throttle work? Thanks, Tim.
