The polar night snow storms have arrived in full force on Svalbard! There is always something extra wild about high winds and snowfall, when there is no daylight. We do our best to prepare the cabin, but still wake up to freezing temperatures! Thank you so much for being here and I hope you enjoy the video! Merry Christmas 🌟☕️

I love how you were like “I don’t think we want to go out” and Grim was just like “I heard ‘go out’” 😂😂
hahah Grim was like GREAT lets go 😂 But he wanted us to go out together haha
that's how they are they want the pack together!!!!🥰
Merry Christmas!
So different from when we visited in June - thank you for these videos, truly my favourite channel here
@@CeciliaBlomdahl you should have bundled up and go out
@@CeciliaBlomdahl a Christmas movie you should watch Die Hard
That analysis of It Ends With Us made it for me. I really gave out a chuckle when you were like 'it is top three'.... 'probably top three' and then you said 'worst book ever'. I did not think that was coming.
hahah!
Im late to this but they just made a movie about it is about domestic violence so thats probably why you get hints of abuse. I thought about reading it but thanks to you ill spend my time on something better. ❤😊
@@lildancer223you do you but the book is shite 😂😂😂😂
Dear Cecilia. Thank you for sharing. One of my ancestors, Theodor Lerner, was actually a journalist and polar Explorer. He let various expeditions to Svalbard. He spent the polar Night of 1907 in a small wooden Cabin at Cap Boheman with Hjalmar Johansen who had participated a few years earlier in the famous North Pole Expedition of Nansen. Unfortunately, I have still not managed to Visit. Greetings from Germany!
That is amazing!
How cool!!!
So cool, thanks for sharing that.
Fascinating family history! Thank you for sharing! Enjoy the holidays! The U.S. is having a huge national deep freeze and storm! Scary on the maps!
Thank you for sharing your family history. My brother lives in Darmstadt. We're about to have a artic freeze 🥶. Pray for us please. Hugs from Texas 😎
I especially ppreciate the Coleen Hover teardown in the one :D
I am totally amazed at how you not only survive but thrive in this “ hostile environment “. Totally amazing.
You inspired my New Year's resolution for 2023. Go outside and embrace the weather each day no matter what it is. I spend way too much time indoors.
The book 'there's no such thing as bad weather' talks about there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad outdoor gear. My goal for 2023 is the 1000 hours outside challenge ☀️🌧❄️⛈️
I did that. Being from Northern Europe it made be happier to go kite surfing in wind, snowboarding in snow etc.
"I think it's shit to be honest" - I'd have a small treasure if I had a dollar for every book that ever made me feel that way. And your honesty is always in demand! 😂😂
20:36 This shot honestly looks like something out of a 60's sci-fi novel of a base on some cold planet in the far reaches of the universe.
Best part of the day is getting a notification that Cecilia uploaded a new video 🥰❄️
You're the best!
I agree 100%! ❤️
@@CeciliaBlomdahl Don’t ever stop making these videos. They give me peace when I’m completely stressed out lol
YES!!!! 🥰
YES!!!!
Nobody will see this but I have to. "Grim brought some snacks" had me howling 🤣 I'm seeing hims standing upright at the kitchen counter thoughtfully putting together three sets of snacks. 😆
I love Grim so so much but there's just something so adorably cheeky and goofy about Fenris that sets him apart! And when they're together they're just unstoppable ahah
Fenris is a teddy bear and his little puppy smile just melts hearts.
I was wondering why Fenris didn't join the girls on their hike. I'm sure Grim would've loved the company.😊
Longyearbyen is pure magic with the lights of the town against the dark emptiness all around. It is truly an island of life in a void of nothingness. The gingerbread houses were all wonderful and especially so since we rarely see this done in the US. Your videography is stunning and captures more than even the eye can see. Thanks for sharing.
Fenris is cool walking across the floors while Grim yells "lava!!!!".
Wow - the book youre reading was turned into a movie that was widely panned and now the actors are suing each other!😅
THIS is what I imagine when I think of living in Svalbard… harsh conditions. Obviously you deal with it for a small part of the year but I’m so grateful your content has shown me the other 90% of your realistic life there. Before I would’ve just thought this is all that you experience. Now I know how beautiful it truly is for a majority of your time there (not saying snowstorms aren’t beautiful but let’s be real, they’re not ideal lol) and I definitely understand having to tough out these conditions for the reward you’ll get in late winter/spring. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us Cecilia. It means the world to me as someone from Los Angeles that has no grasp on how to survive in the conditions you do, that you share your content with us and just want others to experience the joy and happiness you feel being there. I feel it, and I love it. Thanks again, Cecilia!
I feel it too, I feel it's calling me almost 🤭.. what a great comment she really is an amazing cinematographer, Svalbard tourist board should be paying her alot of money bcoz she really makes the place seem so warm and inviting, even in such harsh conditions... I live in Ireland, we hardly ever get snow, just alot of rain and not very hot in summer, probably cold to you guys in LA lol.. anyway Merry Christmas ⛄☺️✌🏼
the three of you - Christopher, Grim and you Cecilia make the world a better place
I don't know what I love most about your video's, your straight forward, no nonsense book reviews, your exquisite gingerbread house competitions or your windy cold hikes..oh and your picking up the lovely brown doggy to show us close up...I loved it all..best video ever. Thank you. I even love your adverts for products...so much knowledge I have gained.
😭 thank you so so much for this kind comment 🙏🙏
How she struggles with “aclimate “ is soo cute 😅
I recently discovered your videos and have been binge watching ever since! I live in Northern Mississippi USA and the heat index tomorrow is expected to reach over 110F/43C. I hate the heat!! I am so envious of your wonderful life in Svalbard. I am originally from Ohio in North USA and wind chills during winter can dip to a balmy - 30F/-34C lol. I miss the snow and cold. The landscape of Svalbard is breathtakingly beautiful! Thank you for sharing your exciting and interesting life with the rest of the world! I so enjoy your videos and look forward to new ones weekly! And Grim is adorable!! 🐶❤️
Just watching this video in 2025, and I totally agree with you about the Book, "It Ends With Us" it's completely unrealistic how they depict handling abusive relationships, and was written so poorly. Also, you must miss Finris so much, you can tell the bond between you two was very special. 😔 ❤
Did anyone notice how it looked like a falling star towards the end on the right side of the sky?? Such beauty in the heavens 🙌🏼❤️
That looks a bit like the international space station going over
You have a suitable dog for the climate and he loves every minute of the cold........It is also nice to see you embrace the cold weather and not complain about it.
He looooves the cold! (And so do I) 🧡
I love how grim goes crazy for the snow!!! He loves it, so cute 🤩
Grim is the best dog. He's living the best life 💖🐕💖
Incredible scenery at 21.53 🥰

11:36 Oh my days, I'm so in love with Fenris!!! He's so beautiful!!! 😍😭😍😭😍
I love it when the snow sparkles like that! It's like fairies sprinkled little diamonds everywhere. So happy for your camera capture of this magical effect.
Me too. Years ago, I named my car for the first time ever. I was coming out of a store at night and my car was covered with snow that sparkled like diamonds and I thought “that’s it! Little car, you shall be called “Diamond”.
I love how happy Grim is walking in the snow! 💜💜💜
I'm glad someone else felt the same thing about Colleen Hoover's books. Wasn't for me at all, but not gonna diss anyone who enjoyed it. 😅💜
THAT HIKE WITH LINN! The way the light was hitting the snowy hills and making them look so unreal, and on top of that, some northern lights. I cannot even. So amazing. I definitely want to come sometime and hire a private guide to have adventures like that.
I have my wife hooked on watching your channel. We live in Wa state and I drive the mountains all year. I just think your energy is amazing and it’s really nice to see how positive you guys are thanks for the videos
-25C now in central Minnesota, USA. Getting significant snowfall too. So........we're dancing to the same tune.
Grim is a brave dog. He is not afraid to walk far from the cabin in darkness, strong winds, snow, freezing slippery road. ❄❄❄❄❄
That might all be true, but why is he always crying, wincing, or sounding like car breaks? Is that indicative of the breed? I often wonder is he in pain or does he not want to do the task asked of him?
Poor dog is not happy. Its cruel to take him out in extreme weather. He would be frightened and over-stimulated.
@@allimac5104 Read up on this breed. He was ecstatic and wagging his tail the whole time.
@@allimac5104 that breed and types similar to him are made for that type of weather...whats cruel is having these breeds in hot climates and having them suffer daily from the heat
@@allimac5104 You might do a bit of research on the breed before your couch ninja animal expert remarks.😂
It’s crazy because Grim goes outside and gets a freezing cold shower and freshen his fur up, I prefer a hot bubble bath myself lol
Hahah
Negative- 12 f right now! Colorado/ Snowed overnight! 50 mph winds! And I am out every morning in it, no matter the cold. I love a good winter storm! It's fun watching like-minded people enjoy the cold!! Reading several books that you have suggested and just ordered the hare book! Thank you for these precious glimpses into a life well lived! Acclimate! That is the word you were looking for!!
20:20 I think your positive outlook and how you don't even let complete darkness prevent you from doing what you love is so inspiring!!! and to think I've skipped going on walks because of the rain...!
The level of respect I gained for you when you talked about “it ends with us”…a truly horrendous novel.
You make it all look soo romantic and beautiful but I bet its not as easy to walk in that wind with all those slippy icey slopes, but I absolutely adore watching you and Christopher and Grim and all your friends.
My furbbies like watching as well when Grims in the shot.
Have an absolutely fabulous Christmas and look forward to all your future videos 📹 😀
Cecilia, as a person also living in a four-seasons-country, I mourn summer every year but your videos somehow bring out the true romance of winter and makes it easier to accept that it's coming again and even look forward to the best of it. 😄
Love how Grims just chillin in the snow.
So interesting. I'm a big reader and I've never heard of it ends with us before, it's currently showing in cinemas here and now loads of YT family's are talking about it.
I’ve never heard of the book either and the fact that it’s out at the cinema I heard of that title but it’s not a movie that I would go see - on the other hand…... I did just purchase Christopher’s favorite book off of eBay. 🐇🐇🐇
The BEST vlogger on UA-cam. Hands down! Cecilia, you are a born filmmaker! Loved every bit of it - thank you again for your hard work! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤❤❤And Grim 🥰
PS - I think you will really love “A Winter’s Tale” by Mark Helprin. It is wonderfully, masterfully written, with marvelous characters - including a magical, beautiful horse.
It is a story woven over a couple of hundred years, takes, based in New York and the surrounding areas of the Bayonne and Ellis Island. Ultimately, it is a story of birth and rebirth in the fabric of our lives.
Year of the hare is awesome ; that Finnish author kicks ass!
This makes me feel a tiny bit better about dealing with UK weather.
Fenris is so adorable nothing like his namesake.
It’s -13 degrees F air temp here in Minnesota (USA) today. Wind chill is even lower. My poor husky is like NOPE, Grim is so brave! 😅
Weather and climate around the world is such a fascinating thing, because you’re actually warmer up near the North Pole right now than we have been down here in SE Idaho, USA. (Tomorrow morning’s low is supposed to be -14°F! 🥶)
Love your vlogs! ❤ it’s so cool to see life in such a different part of the world.
I love geography, and I find it so interesting too what u said about Idaho being that cold , I think the reasons behind that would be the tilt of the globe,it's roughly around 10° so that would have alot to do that.. and the fact you're very far from the ocean.. On a different topic iv been following a true crime case from there in Moscow with the 4 students😔it's so sad and heartbreaking I really feel for the families involved and people in the areas.. I hope they get them soon!
Anyway, I hope you have a great Christmas from Ireland, happy holidays ✌🏼
Big whoop. Boring as hell is what it’s like unless you’re not allergic to wool and like reading!
It is probably in celcius and not F.
@@emmanuelled.meunier9819 I made my comparison based on both locations being transcribed into Fahrenheit.
@@mircat28 what a bad attitude. Life is what you make it!
The Gingerbread houses are all amazing this year. I love the polar bear themed one the best due to personal preference, but wow, they are just all incredible!
Wow, the detail. Whoever did the middle one wins.
Grim and Fenris are the perfect company for the cold days. Just want to cuddle up with them❤ So beautiful 😍
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 It is -30 here this week with lots of strong winds so it feels like -45. Stay warm! Happy holidays ☃️
we're getting an extra video per week🥺 thank you!!
Polar nights are peaceful, and Grimm is such good company.
Looking down on the town at night is absolutely STUNNING you live a truly blessed life Cecelia
I’m obsessed with your joy of life! Appreciating big and small. Sending more positive vibes!!
The views of Longyearbyen from the top of the mountain are amazing! You make winter beautiful!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you, Christoffer and Grim!! 🎄⛄🦌
Make ur mind up is it happy holidays (which is incorrect) or is it merry Christmas
@@tshelby5212 it's both! Christmas is a holiday, as well as Winter Solstice, New Year's, Epiphany, Hanukkah, or whatever one's tradition or faith celebrates. I choose to acknowledge all of them. By the way, I don't think Happy Holidays is incorrect, since the word, "holiday" is derived from the old English for "holy day." Look it up if you know how. Happiest of Holidays to you! 🎄🎄🎄
@@tshelby5212 It’s very incorrect. So much so that I refuse to listen to Bing Crosby sing “Happy Holidays”. Makes my blood boil. (that was sarcasm btw.)
@@jakrispy5918 You might get less annoyed if one thinks of "Happy New Year" is one in the holiday pair, and the lyrics do not sound right with saying "Happy Christmas" , nor would MC&HNY sound right singing the song.
I personally get bent out of shape when, in a Christian State of PA, people sometimes say HH because it seemed like folk have fear, that being PC is paramount as to not offend non-Christians.
There is an example where the word "incorrect" does not warrent the modifier "very", which is humorous, but for the joy of the Season, I will skip it. (Season? Oh, Seasons Greetings. Someone get Bing on the phone. LOL)
Hi from Japan! ...Watching your dog hearing and understanding you, I realize how great our furry friends are doing at understanding us: I'm at a loss at your language and I feel like a dog when first spoken at in a human language ^_^
love these cozy videos
Then you go outside and freeze your toes off and think no it’s just not for me lol
You have SUCH a good sense of production. This was stunning!
And i LOVED your review of the book you DIDN'T like! Hilarious!
I'm in Alberta Canada and we're currently in the middle of a polar vortex. All this week the temperatures have been -34c with the windchill of -47c. Thankfully by Christmas it's supposed to be a much more seasonal -12c. Your cabin seems so cozy, enjoy your lovely polar night! Merry Christmas from Canada!
Wind chill in Chicago this morning was -36 C. I absolutely struggle in winters here. I miss the sun and the warmer weather.
We're from Fort McMurray and we joked about how it's so much warmer there than here, perhaps we should move haha.
Grim always makes me smile…what a great dog.
It's great how you "acclimate" to this weather. I truly love your book suggestions and willingness to share your home with us.
It’s actually acclimatise!

Best natural show ever!
Noticed no window coverings to keep out the cold. I live in the desert and must have to keep out cold and heat! Love how you present your home and country.
I’m glad I am not the only one who thinks her books are low level.
All your gingerbread houses were really cool. Thank you so much for uploading your videos. I always look forward to them.
The gingerbread houses look great. Everyone did a great job on them.
What a magical hike that was! You should get Grim a doggie backpack, so he could help you bring snacks up. Or maybe he could bring his own wool blankie, so he wouldn't have to lie down on the snow. And the gingerbread houses are so cute! I love your videos. It's like having news from far away friends. Glad you house stays cozy even though it's blowing outside. Stay warm and see you on the 25th!
The dog should not be out in extreme weather. Poor thing's face being battered by strong winds, sand, grit and snow!
obsessed with grim . also the shots of the mountains as you talked about the polar nights - like stage sets -the way the light fell and made everything shades of each other. absolute beauty. thank you. also... GRIM.
😍
The gingerbread house is such a great idea. I'm doing this next year with my friends!!!! 👍
I always love watching your videos! My favorite online content of the last two years!
Wow, thank you so so much! 🙏🏻
4:23 the word you were looking for was acclimate lol love your videos
A winter storm is hitting the US right now, even here in the southeast US and it’s unusually cold!! And it’s going to be the coolest Christmas since 1933 in SC, 34 degrees F. Crazy, with wind chills that morning with 0 to 11 degrees F. You’re videos make me feel so relaxed, happy and peaceful ❤🥰 so thank you so much!!!
I'm in iowa and we are under a blizzard warning until Saturday. High winds and possibly as low as -42. Soooo... what the heck! 🙄😳
You’re right! I’m in Arkansas and we’re bracing for the COLD!
Minnesota here, its very chilly for us, 💨 wind and snow ❄️🥶. Several schools and business stuff have closed for tomorrow, preemptively.
Then there's me in Southern California who gets no winter with Xmas day being around 81F 😐
I'm getting my winter vibes through UA-cam.
In Canada Alberta we have the same issue, -40 Celsius, feels like -50 with the wind, not fun
Grim and Finn are so cute. ❤❤❤
I love watching your videos in preparation for my move to northern Sweden. I know the weather isn't as harsh as where you are but it's helping me see the beauty in the dark winters. As someone who is from the southern part United States its going to be a huge learning curve lol. Thank you for sharing your love of the polar nights! Now only thing left is to convince my husband we need a finnish lapphund! 🤣
Well it depends what part of northern Sweden. It can be really cold and stormy in the most northern part during the winter.
@@Lompis666 oh I know, I've just never experienced the extent of what she's shown. I'm excited but also terrified lol.
Gorgeous scenery. I can’t believe we are colder tha n you. Here in Montana, USA it is -25*F with a windchill of -51*F. And we have more snow 😮 Thank you for sharing your beautiful part of the world. Have a very Merry Christmas. ❤🎉❤😊
Always look forward to seeing you. Sometimes I feel like I’m right there with you, like when it’s -43 Celsius overnight here and -31 in the day. The joys of living in Saskatchewan, Canada. Hit drinks and good books, that’s the way to do winter.
I'm your Alberta neighbor to the west. My kids schools were closed yesterday and open today but school buses aren't running. -44 windchill can go away now. 🥶

You make such wonderful vlogs. This episode had so many different scenes and topics, it was one of your best vlogs so far if you ask me. Your camera technic, your choice of music, and your editing are top-notch. But the most important is you, Cecilia. Even your voice is perfect 😂. God Jul om vi inte "ses" före julafton.
Its gonna be cold in the US..250/300 million people in the US will be under freezing temps but damn. I"m glad y'all are well prepared and safe. Love how Grim just goes outside anyways! :D
Hello Celicia, I can’t believe you are almost at 500k, I started watching you right after Christmas last year. Hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas and a great new year.
Thank you for being here! 😊
One of several Siberians that I've raised over the years was a "red and white" and looked just like Grim... Such lovable and beautiful animals.
The hike looked quite magical
The videography of all of the outside scenes is spectacular. Kudos to the gingerbread house makers. Cecilia is blessed to be surrounded by gifted friends.
Definitely adding Year of the Hare to my TBR. I also am not a fan of Coleen Hover and couldn’t understand the hype. Polar nights seem like a perfect time to read and with the fire roaring too is does make it so cozy. Have a wonderful Christmas!!
OMG Bob's Burgers did an episode about a gingerbread decorating contest party gone wrong, hahahahaha I had totally forgotten about that until just now!
It's midsummer here in New Zealand but I love seeing how you live and the whole white Christmas thing during polar night. Grim and Fenris are such stars. My little Chihuahua mix would refuse to go outdoors in such a cold climate. Grim's sheer delight in being outdoors with you with all the fascinating scents and sounds is so intrinsically canine. Ears up, tail wagging, nose sniffing - he's such a lucky well loved dog.
I love how you often mistakenly call other people Grim. It’s so clear that he’s your soulmate 😊
I love winter and I am so happy to watch someone who loves it equally if not more! ♥️ thank you from the bottom of my heart for these vlogs, they're so calming and full of absolutely awe-inspiring beauty 🌠
I didn't always love winter, bit I feel that when we don't love harsh or wet seasons, it's not the seasons themselves that are problematic, it is us carrying a lot of negativity and struggling to find comfort within ourselves that won't allow us to embrace the cold and the dark. I've grown to love autumn and winter a lot! I feel like i should love winter since I'm a winter baby, my Bday is on the coldest day of the year
Right now it is 8:30am and it's -19C, though my google weather app says that "it feels like -29C" hehe ❄️☃️
For Gingerbread House national competition check out the Grove Park Inn in Asheville North Carolina, USA.. every November the USA national competition happens there.. your houses are good and making them in dark winter passes some time plus gives a nice reason to invite friends.. stay warm.. Why do you not burn coal in stove? Heat generation is twice or more than wood.. you still have a coal mine there?? Also, if you have an external air intake to the fire place the room temperature can be maintained with less fuel used..
this was such a beautiful vlog
Thank you so much! 🧡
I adore the idea of a gathering of friends creating gingerbread houses
