No one blends the great four styles of the American music like JJ Cale; Blues, Rock, Country and Jazz. His sincere humility truly matches his great talent.
@jimshelley8831 well, since JJ wasn't well known and had no money it was, in fact, true love. And, most especially for both of them, genuine and true and pure love of the music.
j.j. Cale influenced hundreds of bands such as Eric Clapton Mark Knopfler Dire Straits etc, that were friends with j.j. and he is probably responsible for influencing and teaching thousands of musicians around the world . Don't forget his beautiful wife Christine Lakeland who played with him over 35 years and kept up with him excellently.
Clapton didn’t stray all that far from Cale’s 1966 version. Cale slowed it down for “Naturally” after Clapton's version got him signed. Personally, the “Naturally” version is my favorite.
A bit of a harsh comment but I kinda get where you are coming from on that one but he was unique and that is what made him so special. Didn't have to be anyone, just himself
That look on Christine Lakeland's face at the end, when J.J. says "Well that's the show -- That's it" gets me every time. A minor thing of beauty and subtle humor.
I really don't know how this guy is so unknown and understated still...... I grew up on this guys music and am always shocked when people have not heard of him....... Like wtf.... Even people who claim to love blues.... I'm like wtf man you don't know music
JJ Cale was one of the most underrated guitar players/song writers ever. Few know his influence on guitar greats like Mark Knopfler and many others. A great loss
I don't think he was underrated. I think he exactly got what he wanted. He was a modest man. In the 70s his music was well known already. As his wife once said->What he liked best was sitting on the porch with a drink, smoke and guitar... All alone.
RIPETO, J.J. CALE, GRANDE COMPOSITORE, MOLTI SCOPIAZZATORI TI DEVONO MOLTO MA, L'IGNORANZA E LA POCA CONOSCENZA MUSICALE, HANNO FATTO SI CHE NEGLI ANNI I SCOPIAZZATORI, GRAZIE AD IMBECILLI NON SAPEVANO CHE SEI TU IL GRANDE MENTORE . SEI SEMPRE CON NOI J.J.
The beginning of that performance reminds me of Sympathy for the devil by The Rolling Stones. Wonderful version of After midnight. Wow. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Well that's the show. That's it. Takes on a whole new meaning now. Consider myself one of the lucky ones to have seen J.J. 2 times live. Played such effortless, groovy laid-back rock. J.J. -- you made the world a better place for all of us. God Bless Mr. J.J.Cale.
In the 70's and 80's already considered a master composer in the best Discos (yes, dance music) across South Europe, the coolest of the night very much appreciated and respected by the public.
Dutch voice says: Jean Jacques Cale is being known as a gas station assistent in the movie Paris Texas. But as JJ Cale he made a reputation as singer, composer and guitarist. On September 21th he was in our country for a concert. Before that concert he visited with his band our 2 meter studio. JJ took me apart when he entered the 2 meter studio. We can do this on two ways, he said. Or we take the whole touring bus empty and give a full eletric concert, or we take some "small stuff" for an intimate concert. The last option was made as a final chose, which Cale was very happy about.
Best Music regards to JJ Cale ! Where ever you are you are in our hearts for ever and ever JJ ;) Magistral After Midnight - Studio Live ! Bravissimo à tous les magic men and woman avec JJ !
RIP Bill Raffensperger, and my condolences to you. Your dad was a fantastic bass player indeed, and seemed to have an amazing chemistry with Cale. Something quite intuitive and instinctive in the way two musicians interacted... He will be sorely missed by all.
till few months back when you searched JJ Cale on Utube got handful of videos and now you have loads...thanks for uploading people In session at the paradise studio LA 79 - Must buy for any JJ fan
Other than his songwriting and other extraordinary music talent, which exceeds most-the thing I like about Cale is that he could give a shit about image. J.J. counts on the music doing the talking, not external trappings. He's the real deal.
Musical genius. Cant help, everytime I look at J.J. Inspector Columbo comes to my mind. The Conga player reminds me on the young Ray Barretto. Great version.
Quintessential version of an already excellent song. Freshness, good feelings, composure... Unfortunately, it is now part of the history of two great musicians.
People keep saying he didn't ger the recognition he deserves. Nonsense...people are still talking about him today..while so called called stars of today are soon forgotten...

Well observed! His marvellous guitar phrasing owes much to an improv jazz feel.
Well spoken,yet true🎉
RIP my friend.......your music inspired me for many years. Your music inspired me to play the guitar. Thankyou Champ.
Wish I’d found a girl who could look at me like Christine looks at JJ. Lucky guy.
Maybe if you were well known and had money perhaps.
@jimshelley8831 well, since JJ wasn't well known and had no money it was, in fact, true love. And, most especially for both of them, genuine and true and pure love of the music.
You're so right they were good together ❤️❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸@@KatherineNalley
The best Version from After midnight,i love the voice !😊
Probably the most outstanding performance of this great song.
Love it!

Due respect to Mr. Clapton, this is THE correct version.
Too Cool!
Thanks!
I don't know, man....the slow, smoky version on Naturally is still amazing. Pretty hard to top in my opinion, though this version is great, too.
@@kent387 this has way more feeling and depth than EC version for sure JJ Cale was just the best
He did kind of write it (JJ that is )
It is.
Clapton didn’t stray all that far from Cale’s 1966 version. Cale slowed it down for “Naturally” after Clapton's version got him signed.
Personally, the “Naturally” version is my favorite.
So sublime, he made it look effortless, a true artist, respect and sleep well JJ Cale.
J.J. was never flashy enough to get the success his music deserved.
Others did that for him......EC did.
He was an extraordinarily ordinary dude ...
@@paulgalligan1916 Oh yes indeedy.
He didn't want to be and often said so. I heard him say that myself.
A bit of a harsh comment but I kinda get where you are coming from on that one but he was unique and that is what made him so special. Didn't have to be anyone, just himself

💯
Just love his giggle at 1:55 really shows how much he loves what he does.. not to mention that I love what he does!
I love his cheeky face at 1.58 when the tambourine is so loud, flash of blue eyes.
I really don't know how this guy is so unknown and understated still...... I grew up on this guys music and am always shocked when people have not heard of him....... Like wtf.... Even people who claim to love blues.... I'm like wtf man you don't know music
musician’s musician. his voice sounds better and better the more you hear it… so much feeling
Everything seems so natural and fluent with JJ Cale and his band.

He definitely was not underrated and simply everybody knows about his influence, even my grandma.
...in old Europe. Maybe in the US situation is different.

Goosebumps... This sort of music stays in the heart
Farewell old friend, you were the soundtrack for some amazing times.
The beginning of that performance reminds me of Sympathy for the devil by The Rolling Stones. Wonderful version of After midnight. Wow. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
The original version.
Doesn't matter how he plays (group or solo) or where he plays - you can always tell it's JJ CALE!
Is it his phrasing? His transitions are butter.
@@kenshepherd6831 I'd say yes!
I hope JJ will come to the Netherlands Thumbs up if you like it!
R.I.P. JJ, YOU WERE AND ARE MY HERO, YOUR MUSIC CHANGED THE WAY I LOOKED AT LIFE, THANK YOU FOR BEING A REAL CARING HUMAN BEING, COUSIN FIGEL

His phrasing on the guitar is so unique and cool.
at 68...how did I manage to miss this majic? The best of the best.
I'm happy I finally found this great artist wish I had known about him 30 years ago
In the 70's and 80's already considered a master composer in the best Discos (yes, dance music) across South Europe, the coolest of the night very much appreciated and respected by the public.
Excellent times and good memories , see Friday (jaux) 👌
I wish I had one the lottery. I would have had my own private party. My most favorite musical genius.
He really knows how to put a song together. My foot is still tapping, and the song has been over for ten minute ago.
This is a real gem. Love it!

Thank you for the translation!
Thanks for the translation!
I was there . Great performance.
Well, his first names were John Weldon, not Jean-Jacques, and the the gas station attendant in "Paris, Texas" was Sam Berry.
@@exaltica in HK?
J J Cale is The smoothest blues band I have ever listened to. Real cool music. Highly recommended.
His music is the right size! Overwhelming by being so perfect and paced!
Excellent merci les musiciens et JJ Cale of course.
I wish this song was like 15 minutes longer 🤣👊🏽❤️
He still is my favourite artist... I think it's probably gonna stay that way
