It was 1990 & he was touring with Christine Lakeland, Spooner Oldham & Tim Drummond in his band. Sure Clapton could play circles around him but he didn't have near the hear felt soul & originality that JJ did.

When I saw him in concert in Portland Ore couple years ago.. after the opening act is done.. and WHILE the roadies are removing stage gear and preparing for J.J. .. House lights are up... J.J. just walks out and sits on a stool and begins tuning his guitar.. no big deal.. Put on a great show..
