Correction/Clarification! The Ainu creation story I mentioned would be more accurately described as "a regional Ainu myth from Shizuani and Hidaka" rather than it being from the Ainu more broadly, who have a different origin story. It's also possible that this version of the tale was purposefully corrupted to make the Ainu appear more barbaric... Historic Japan-Ainu relations are just about as bad as Colonial US - Native American relations. Another thing to keep in mind, the stories as we have them now are just machine translated, so we may not have the most accurate versions. Also, I just learned that apparently the Nickelodeon and Disney vaults are full of this kind of thing, but like actually drawn out by official artists. It's apparently pretty common... strange. Albeit they were done for different reasons.
Spit honestly from what I read. IPs not being kept to the original creators and, thus, "those" arts are there in the world as a "screw you" to the company. I welcome it.😂

People have now translated the Typhlosion myth without a machine and the story is wildly different. It’s actually nearly a 1:1 of a story about a shapeshifting badger yokai that’s a hermit who shelters a girl. It’s very similar to Beauty and the Beast, and the moral of the story is that humans are sometimes worse than monsters. This story also made it into the official games under “Sinnoh Folk Story 2” which is extremely simplified. Side note: the Ursaring story is also in the games as “Veilstone’s Myth,” but also simplified with almost all details removed.
Many a cautionary tale has been told about humans being more monstrous than the beings they see as monsters. The moral of _Frankenstein_ is but one tale.

@@Kowalski_at-Bayern Yes, thank you. While the majority of people will already be aware of that fact, it may be important to state the obvious for others. You see, the joke was that society in general is less critical of acts of violence and killing in the media. Sometimes even treating depictions of brutal murder as a genre of entertainment. Meanwhile sex, which certainly can at times be depicted as gratuitous and vulgar, is much more of a natural act of life. Myself and the majority of human society has and will engage in intercourse, where as considerably fewer comparatively have taken the life of another person. Despite those difference, many societies feel it more important to censor even minor suggestions of sex, rather than acts of violence. people are going “Gamefreak is full of gooners” but like, isn’t it likely these were all written by one person? and it’s abundantly clear that they’re based on real world mythology…
It was all written by one person, a woman actually. People never expect a woman to get a little freaky. EDIT: From recent evidence I've seen, looks like the original author was someone who wrote Pokedex entries, and he's a guy. The second half of my original comment still applies.
Even if these stories were written by more than one person (i know it one person) than so far at most, it might be five whole people, by golly. Even then, I dunno how big Game Freak is, but it sure is way more than five. And I have read someone on Tiktok that Game Freak, like the whole company, deserves to get arrested. Which... what?
Yeah, it's nice that he also gives additional info and context in the pinned comment (like even Disney doing stuff like this as well), considering this is a international leak, there is controversy surrounding it, and there isn't much else to go off of other than the stories themselves and common writing practices, so it's always useful. Speaking of the controversy, just remember, there are many ways to create things and many inspirations to choose from, and this is yet another common methodology of inspiration applied to rather explicit material from an age where morality wasn't taken as seriously as it is today [at least in most modern western-aligned regions that is], and if you disagree with the specific methodology like I do, use that energy to create or write something that doesn't use the same methods used here, there're plenty of inspiring works out there to choose from! Anyways just my 2 cents while the world is on fire and the internet imploding with controversy after controversy, drama after drama. Thanks for Reading.
According to the Pokedex, we have Hypno luring children into forests, Drifloon abducting children (and having a distaste for large children), a young kid one day waking up as an Abra, and Salazzle forming a reverse harem with Male Salandits... I want to say I'm surprised, but...
Dusknoir acting as literal grim reapers, looking into Uxie's open eyes causes total retrograde amnesia, naked Mimikyu causing near instant death on sight, Houndoom's flames causing chronic burns that are incurable, Bombirdier dropping things from up high, Cutiefly pokes those having fun with its proboscis, Beheeyem is implied to abduct Dubwool and has the ability to control memories, etc.
Another important thing to consider. Even if these did make it to a game. They still wouldnt be something that 100% actually happened. Theyre myths. Myths are often intended as symbolism more than claiming something directly happened

As someone who was into yokai folklore as a kid, these all read as that, just yokai stories. Always remember, western nursery rhymes also have random children getting hurt and other ordeals and yet we still sing "Rock a Bye Baby" to a baby in which the baby is bound to fall from the tree.

As someone who loves real world mythology I think it’s funny how everyone’s like “eww implied relations with Pokémon? How disturbing!” And Greek mythology is over here like: 😐
Random horses, sloths, and octopods are almost never the focus of this sort of subject matter in mythology, and if they are it's clearly defined as an abomination rather than something the writer is getting off to.

Appreciate both the disclaimer that the stories may not actually be leaked and that this isn't gonna end gamefreak. WTF is totally a fair initial reaction to have, but I've been seeing people call this stuff "official Pokémon smut" which is just so, so misleading, it's annoying
I've also used the word official but it's usually after "(for lack of a better term)". Drifloon kidnap children constantly.
Yeah they did a similar design thing for the My Little Pony movie. A lot of the background characters were straight up monsters that wouldn’t be out of place on a MTG card or the side of a van before they were fit into the house style.
These all give off the animal bride/ bridegroom mythotrope, I like how they come off as people explaining the world around them rather than the more unnatural feeling myths can get when world building
Honestly, the non-canon lore is pretty tame all things considered, but it's funny seeing people freak out over it. 3:38 I'm glad you brought this up because Mythology, in general, is absolutely weird.
I know this is kinda by the by, but it's ridiculous the amount of people who have now decided every typhlosion is a creep now. Like, Typhlosion is a species. Even if that story was canon (which it isn't) that would be actions of one individual Typhlosion, not all of them. Imagine if that's how we judged humans? We'd all be cancelled.
I will say, I do find the Typhlosion memes funny but I understand it's a little weird to treat Typhlosion as a monolith (which is why I also like the memes defending Typhlosion).
Love how entertaining, precise and factual yet funny your videos are, even if they dabble into "grown-up +" material regarding the Pokè-verse. Good job dude, never stop using your gnoggin!

I'm so glad you put this out like no one is properly explaining the deal behind the stories and there purpose and also the fact that they were never used and cut almost 15 years ago. Thank You
Cut doesn't mean anything, they shouldn't have written these to begin with. As if they couldn't have written more palatable versions of these stories to begin with.
This reminds me of times people have acted like I'm perverted for drawing sketches of humans. "But why are they naked?" I can't start with the shirt and work my way backwards genius.

Honestly, art in general is a activity that will make some people think you are a degenerate because somehow everyone can be puritanical about human bodies
9:24 Fun fact, that's still loosely there. And three pokemon (salazzle, tsareena, and hatterene) that all have lore and more sets directly tied to some kind of s3xual act, not just have a horny design like lopunny. There are probably 30 others that I haven't seen, but the cannon is present beyond a mistranslated quote from a game 20 years ago.
also in colosseum there's an old lady who calls a mightyena her boyfriend, and then in xd gale of darkness, that same old lady has a poocheyena. what that implies, you decide!
I need to know why anyone is surprised by this. A Hypno straight up kidnapped a girl on one of the Sevii Islands. Pokemon has some weirdness in canon and it's not hard to find.
There's also a scene on the Sea Mauville in ORAS where there are two girls in a locked room standing face to face across from the door with one of them against a wall. If you talk to the one who's back is to you, she gives you a key you need to advance after saying "How did you get in here? I thought I locked that door. Anywas, take this and leave us alone." If you talk to her again, she says "What are we doing? I'm just giving her some private lessons, that's all." If you talk to the other girl at any point (the one with her back to the wall), she responds with "... *Blush*..."
As an artist, I love seeing the horrifying trippy rough draft concept art of those Pokemon. Holy crap Cacturne (who I loved anyway) looks like a nightmare monster I want to see in a horror game lol
I never thought I'd actually be scared about something relating to Cacturne. I really liked seeing the character sheets for some of the Unovan gym leaders.
Thank you Mr. Lockstin for the video. Sometimes it feels like everyone is too PG or too sensationalist about Pokémon. Is really refreshing to see you being open and level minded about this topic.
the pokemon stories are literally so tame compared to some of the greek myths id read when i was younger but nobody was like BAN GREEK MYTHOLOGY FROM LIBRARIES
All subject matter aside, Lockstin bursting back into the room mid-analysis and shouting “THERE’S A FIFTH ONE, IT’S RAPIDASH” is the funniest thing ever to me for reasons I can’t fully explain.
As a Folklore and Mythological nerd I was super excited to see this from a world building perspective... And deeply disappointed to see the reactions online. It's fun to create myths for your fictional worlds and using myths from our world as inspiration makes perfect sense. And people are just using this as an excuse to say "see this is why furries should be bashed and shamed," and going on anti-sex tirades.
As a fan of myths, legends, and folklore. I agree. Another thing people fail to get is, different cultures. Even in Latin America we have messed up tales that kids know, that would be rated R if made into movies.
"Sex=bad" is such a weird take in this case. If these are just adaptations of myths to get some inspiration for the actual world building (something super likely considering Pokemon's ties to yokai) then this makes obvious sense. It's just that the moment people who see the word "relations" (in a series with an in-game book that states there were at least very romantic relations between people and Pokemon) in scrapped material no one was ever supposed to witness, it's all about "think about the children". This isn't hard to understand, I don't even know that much about myths and I understand it. I just wanted to see memes.
The reaction isn't surprising since the entire cope surrounding Pokémon is it aim toward children. So world building like this is something you will find in Palworld/Berserk, not in Pokémon. It does give you a inside of the direction they were going for at the beginning and why it was scrapped.
Poor typhlosion did not deserve to have his rep ruined like this Also very good point about how none of this was ever explicitly made canon despite people acting like it is Along with it just being references to real world mythology, which is pretty messed up
I haven't heard of people reacting like this to these stories (I read the Octillery one and I do NOT want to read any of the others), but I can see people having these reactions. Kudos to you for keeping it humorous!
Great video, I am honestly pretty proud of you that you did not go the sensationalist route with this story. You have shown true integrity here. Keep up the amazing work.

Mythology is such a twisted thing, yet there's still so much to keep you wanting to risk learning those messed up things. Like yea, the first 2 sets of gods in a mythology were siblings but you get to hear about how one of the children redeemed themselves from their punk boy past by saving a village from a sea serpent
reminds me of pokedex entries like a kid turning into a kadabra, raichu taking down an asian elephant or ppl stuffing their clothes with Darumaka droppings. A lot of pokemon entries just add folklore or worldbuilding than they do facts, one of my fav is a Beautifly card mentioning how it uses it's proboscis to stab and drain the life from it's victims.. made funnier since there are vampire butterflies
Good to see you cover these stories too, I think it's really cool that we get actual tales of these Pokémon that evoke similar feelings of Greek and Norse mythology. I'm just disappointed that the only thing the fandom focuses on is making the same unfunny jokes they always do.
4:07 Hey, the minotaur was one of the few things that Zeus didn't cause by refusing to keep his thunderbolt in his pants. That was Minos refusing to sacrifice a bull to Poseidon, so Poseidon made Minos' wife Pasiphaë fall in love in the bull, and she had Daedalus make a fake cow she could be in so she could have the bull
It's not even strange. It's completely normal for people to want to explore darker and taboo topics in the realm of fiction where it's safe and hurts no one. Psychology has studied this and deems the behavior harmless and even helpful in some cases, allowing people to cope with trauma or satisfy kinks in a perfectly controlled and safe environment. People engage with media in different ways and it's just as healthy to toy with these darker concepts as it is the innocent ones. Your point about the Western puritanical views is very true. It's the same thing as how video games don't cause real world violence.
I really wish I could drill this comment into the heads of everyone on twitter. There's a worrying amount of people online who are supposedly all about trusting science and professionals, but the moment someone enjoys something "weird" in fiction, their tone really quickly changes to just straight up anti-intellectualism and calling for people and books to be burned at the stake.
Rapidash did nothing wrong, and I have proof it isn't: - Rapidash is a horse and cannot make human speech, abd it only makes horse sounds - the leak didn't specify if rapidash was being used as a steed and it also could've been pregnant - the community is blaming rapidash instead of the human that actually did the "bad" things they did - Rapidash DOES NOT have a human-like mind, like the others in subject - the folk tale was obviously scrapped and was never meant to see the light of day - it's based off one of the norse mythology tales, where loki makes a horse give birth to make someone ride the given birth steed to battle (and thus seals the fact it wasn't even rapidash's intention)
It's apparently pretty common... strange. @Moki389 you cank just send them links to typhlosion rule 34

There's a difference between sex and murder

If you talk to her again, she says "What are we doing? I'm just giving her some private lessons, that's all." If you talk to the other girl at any point (the one with her back to the wall), she responds with "... *Blush*..."
As an artist, I love seeing the horrifying trippy rough draft concept art of those Pokemon. Holy crap Cacturne (who I loved anyway) looks like a nightmare monster I want to see in a horror game lol
I never thought I'd actually be scared about something relating to Cacturne. I obviously have my issues with leaks but I can't lie and say it hasn't been so neat to see a glimpse into the design and concept process of Pokemon. I really liked seeing the character sheets for some of the Unovan gym leaders.
A Creeper. It's just straight up a Creeper.
Canon Cacturne stalk humans in the desert at night, so it was always intended to be a somewhat scary Pokémon.
@@castform7 i mean Cacturns dex entries are pretty spooky
Yes it’s very good inspiration for creatures
Finally someone with a functioning brain to tackle this situation logically. If I could subscribe to you twice, I would!
I'm glad somebody has finally said it outloud into a megaphone.
Justice for my guy Typhlosion
Thank you Mr. Lockstin for the video. Sometimes it feels like everyone is too PG or too sensationalist about Pokémon. Is really refreshing to see you being open and level minded about this topic.
I'm glad you're slapping some sense into the pokemon fandom
_"It doesn't affect Pokéfans..."_
@@a-s-greig not the "it's not very effective" response
People forget the difference between canon and fanon. These leaks are now fanon, like all the teories and maybe even creepypastas (Ash coma).
Not fanon, as it supposedly comes from the developers themselves. Not canon either, but not even close to fanon.
@@tvb5509 I don't think it matters from where it comes from, as long the fans run with it and it's not in the canon.
@@tvb5509More like scrapped content that became fanon. Like Missigno in a way, if you equate scrapped content with glitches
@@tvb5509 which was scrapped and never seen in real mainline games
@@luckluca8982 lmao not even close to missingno. Missingno is an ACTUAL part of the mainline games unlike that disgusting lore
the pokemon stories are literally so tame compared to some of the greek myths id read when i was younger
but nobody was like BAN GREEK MYTHOLOGY FROM LIBRARIES
Dirty deeds done with sheep was such a diabolical line. Good job
"Basic reading comprehension is needed to play this game"
0:46 the big echoey voice for this was absolutely perfect. You sir, found the golden line between irreverent and concerned in comedy
All subject matter aside, Lockstin bursting back into the room mid-analysis and shouting “THERE’S A FIFTH ONE, IT’S RAPIDASH” is the funniest thing ever to me for reasons I can’t fully explain.
Actual mythology has a penchant for being about as bizarre as the Reman Empire. If you know, you know.
Wait till they hear the Greek pantheon's family tree is practically a ladder
As a Folklore and Mythological nerd I was super excited to see this from a world building perspective... And deeply disappointed to see the reactions online. It's fun to create myths for your fictional worlds and using myths from our world as inspiration makes perfect sense. And people are just using this as an excuse to say "see this is why furries should be bashed and shamed," and going on anti-sex tirades.
As a fan of myths, legends, and folklore. I agree. Another thing people fail to get is, different cultures. Even in Latin America we have messed up tales that kids know, that would be rated R if made into movies.
They could still use them just change the humans to other Pokémon and change some of the normal Pokémon into legendaries/mythicals
The same, especially when they're actually not so "horrible" compare to some really disturbing myths.
The reaction isn't surprising since the entire cope surrounding Pokémon is it aim toward children. So world building like this is something you will find in Palworld/Berserk, not in Pokémon. It does give you a inside of the direction they were going for at the beginning and why it was scrapped.
I hate how accurate the statement at 6:00 is....
Poor typhlosion did not deserve to have his rep ruined like this
Also very good point about how none of this was ever explicitly made canon despite people acting like it is
Along with it just being references to real world mythology, which is pretty messed up
Drama Filled (Tabloid) Channels/UA-camrs
Well I’m afraid one of them was a suspect here, but we can’t let one bring all of them down.
Myths and such were the first thing that came to mind when I read the Lapras story on your previous video. I haven't looked anything up to avoid spoilers, so I appreciate your coverage of the leak!
I wanted this to get covered here, I wasn't expecting it as imo Lockstin is a more kid friendlier channel, but journalism is journalism I guess.
He’s stated a long time ago that he makes content for both kids and adults so that his channel isn’t flagged as “for kids” so he can still receive ad revenue
He's covered adult content for years. He's just tasteful about it.
He has done why lopunny looks the way it does even having the playboy logo on its thigh in the thumbnail
It literally isn’t a kid friendly channel. He’s just a goofy guy but he definitely covers mature topics
I guess those Pokémon Legends Neo Ghetsis videos don't exist
5:55 wiseman's words of the century, probably 😂
"If it's not bestiality, it's incest."
*Looks at the conception of Mordred in Arthurian Legend*
1:49 SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!
YESSSSSSSS lockstin says everything I’ve been thinking in the first two minutes of this video!!
One hundred percent
Mfw the concept art isn't always canon to the final design
Its still funny xd
@@foxshoot3138 I Don’t think they’re funny…Probably because I’m not 12 years old.
Good to see you cover these stories too, I think it's really cool that we get actual tales of these Pokémon that evoke similar feelings of Greek and Norse mythology. I'm just disappointed that the only thing the fandom focuses on is making the same unfunny jokes they always do.
Reminder that when Baldurs Gate 3 came out people were collectively applauding that you could have sex with a bear
I don’t want to hear it
Bro dropped that thing at the end and thought we wouldn't google it.
5:13 nro thought we wouldn't catch the Your Mom
There is the comment I was lookin for.
I literally just paused the video to laugh about the scrolling text and then I saw Your Mom. It's beautiful.
r/beatmetoit
yep, got my XD there
It's not even strange.
@@Benzux 100% there's such a strong puritanical movement in the West this past decade or two and I hope it doesn't last much longer....
Rapidash did nothing wrong, and I have proof it isn't:
- Rapidash is a horse and cannot make human speech, abd it only makes horse sounds
- the leak didn't specify if rapidash was being used as a steed and it also could've been pregnant
- the community is blaming rapidash instead of the human that actually did the "bad" things they did
- Rapidash DOES NOT have a human-like mind, like the others in subject
- the folk tale was obviously scrapped and was never meant to see the light of day
- it's based off one of the norse mythology tales, where loki makes a horse give birth to make someone ride the given birth steed to battle (and thus seals the fact it wasn't even rapidash's intention)
