I was just thinking this the other day. They really spiked in the early noughties. The last really great one I remember was Very Important People but that was ten years ago, it's a shame because being a truly good impressionist is a very admirable and enjoyable talent to watch. I guess they're just not as popular as fake people on reality shows and social media nowadays.

@@markfarnon6742 It's due to other comedians sneering at the art of impressions. I notice this on panel shows where there is a tendency for other guests to say "Sorry, who was that an impression of again?" or "So have you started yet?" . "Would I lie to you" is the worst, Rob Brydon is excellent at mimicry, but Lee Mack and David Mitchell often tear strips off his impressions. Shame.
These guys were mint, I used to look forward to this. Jon Culshaw is nothing compared to Alistair McGowan and Rory Bremner they're the best we've had I reckon, they go the extra mile to really tweek the voices.
I always loved his Louis Theroux - I remember that when I first saw his "Louis Potter" special, I was too young to appreciate it but it made so much sense now!
This guy used to make me laugh so hard with his impressions. He was brilliant. Just realised that Johnathan Ross & Rio Ferdinand share the same mouth lol
many years ago the modern impressionists mcgowan, bremner, culshaw did a impressions special show and wanted to do something about johm major none of them could pull it off so they asked.. wait for it Mike Yarwood and he nailed it! its a shame yarwoods carrer took a dark turn..
cant compare him to Mike Yarwood different time and with the internet you can copy a character rather sourcing little clip on video tapes. listair McGowan is very very good
Probably why Spitting Image succeeded and is timeless. Yarwood, Dick Emery and Benny Hill were like the Allegro and Comma Van and we as a nation needed to improve.
These are fairly good impersonations, but AM made the same mistake with Theroux as he did with Ross in the Friends sketch. He did everything a bit too quickly,
Anyone else feeling sea sick from the Nigella clop at 8 minutes. With the camera moving around so much. I know it's taking the piss with moving. I couldn't watch it all.. 🤮
It's interesting watching this as I used to watch it as a kid and havent seen it again until now.Seems like a lot of the impressions are great, especially McGowans but the jokes/script were pretty bad and the wordplay was awful...
OMG! You need to learn some comic timing friend. Oh yeah, and some impressions that' don't just sound like you making a poor effort. I can forward you some links to some pros if you like. We're never too old to learn eh

These two are superb. Such underrated skill and talent. The 'Richard and Judy' sequences are pretty much interchangeable with Richard and Judy.
