Matt Greiner from August Burns Red is similar in that manner. Dude plays some technical shit but remains calm and doesn’t break a sweat. Same with Chris Adler (formerly) of Lamb of God.
Unfortunately, he also clearly doesn't hit very hard and has virtually no presence. It looks like they got the neighbor kid to sit in and drum-sync. I suspect he will not be in the band for much longer, honestly. I don't think he writes or plays the drum parts in the recordings; I'm virtually certain they are programmed drums on the record. Which is not a bad thing, but diminishes this drummer's necessity.

It's absolutely incredible and the lyrics actually have some real sustenance. It's hard to understand most screaming lyrics but after reading about their poignance I decided to pop them in front of me as I listened and they really hit home in the current global climate!
Your drummer's expression is brilliant: like he just sat down in front of a drum kit for the first time and is low key amazed by how good he is at it! Superb video - love this material :)
I love how this girl’s range is nuts, but she never looks like she’s straining her vocal chords or anything like that. It’s just completely effortless for her.
Screams don't actually involve using your actual vocal chords (well, at least if you're doing it right lol). The power of the scream comes from pushing air from your diaphragm and if you're doing the vocal fry type of screaming (which is what sounds like she does for her mids and highs) you're pushing the air up into the soft pallet in the back of your mouth almost making it nasally, and then adding grit using your head voice and combining that with the air you're pushing upwards. That's the basic premise of A scream, from then on if you just work on mouth shape, breath control and managing power you can do it almost effortlessly someday. You didn't ask to hear the explanation but I too am a vocalist and love talking about this stuff lol.
With screaming your never suppose to use your actual vocal folds (I think its called folds now) if its hurts then your using your folds which will result in injury and possible wrecking your voice. Suppose to come from your chest with the use of your diaphram to store and push air out.
Ppl that are musicians take a moment to get prepared to deliver the message they are trying to convey. So to dish on something so minimal. Get it together! 🤭🤭

The fact that rob mcelhenney has time to do 14 seasons of its always sunny in Philadelphia and also be a bassist in a successful band of this caliber is truly amazing.
Different mics, maybe slight variations in her phrasing as she’s sung the song a bunch of times since it was recorded. Good singers sound best with minimal processing so you can hear all of those human elements and nuances without being out of key. ;)

Pretty easily done, just move the sound up away from your vocal cords (more correctly called "flaps") and push it forward with a good amount of air. Well, I say easily done - I haven't really tried in about 30 years! :-D

I feel her Rule of Nines performance is so much stronger here than her original studio video recording. Part of that can be attributed to the editing nature of the mix being more produced, but another can be her breathing technique and overall vocal control
No, you're totally right. I thought there was a noticeable difference in the studio track and the one take performance she did and not really in a great way. This version was dramatically better, I know exactly what you're referring to and you're totally right.
I'm a prog metal fan and I'm just amazed by this band and keep coming back to this particular performance - such a stellar band and such incredible performances!
I can hear the guitar and the bass way clearer in these recordings than in the official vids, and it's great! Now I get to truly appreciate the sound of the band! I like the official version, too, but the guitar is much more subtle there and the bass sounds a bit different. Different people mixing makes more of a difference than expected, sometimes.

All of her one-takes are incredible, and like you said, I think they're even better than the album versions... maybe because she's had more time to perfect her delivery. The last chorus and the ending of her Circle With Me one-take are amazing.

Agreed. I think it's pretty much purely due to Courtney's voice being more audible or further forward in the mix.
All of her one-takes are incredible, and like you said, I think they're even better than the album versions... maybe because she's had more time to perfect her delivery. The last chorus and the ending of her Circle With Me one-take are amazing.
