Just found you in Dr Sara Siennas comments! It’s so hard to find black female doctors from the UK who are on UA-cam 😩 Im currently in med school and I have considered general practice due to the flexibility around it but I do want more action in the hospital and I am strongly considering paediatrics😊 Hopefully what ever speciality you choose you will enjoy. God Bless💕
Aww thank you so much!! really appreciate the comment. Goodluck with medical school, crazy how quickly it passes by. Time will tell ehat sepciality, I feel like I am always changing my mind haha. Paediatrics is great! all that matters is that you do what you enjoy and I think foundation training will provide more clarity on that. xxx
Excellent video! Keep up the great work. Oh my gosh the struggle is REAL having to work in your birthday and miss important milestones 😭 totally feel your pain. I am on nights for my birthday in May as well 😆 xxx
Finally, someone I can relate to. I'm in final year now and can't wait to start actually working. Keep the videos coming. 💖 wish you the very best with decisions for specialties
Really depends on the speciality & where in the UK you are based. I did 4 night shifts on weekdays in a row and had the weekend off. Or if covering the weekend then fri/sat/sun night shifts then Monday & Tuesday off. When there’s no night shifts, in medicine, I worked 9-5 or 10-6 or 8-4 & surgery day job was 8-5:30. Hope this helps!
KIM DAN-AE ah I see! Night shifts are 12 hours long and maximum you can do is 4 days in a row of 12 hours long shifts so not working more than 48hrs per week is correct!
Hi there! I'm a 16 old student from Belgium and I'm planning on studying medicine when I finish high school. I'm curious about how often you receive racist or discriminatory comments while you're working. I'm a black girl and I've never seen a black doctor at any of the hospitals I've been to so I don't know if things like that happen often or not?
najma hello!! Welcome to my channel 😀. I think it’s great that you want to study medicine. You know honestly, I have not received any racism or discrimination to my knowledge and in the UK, there are quite a few black doctors. What’s the situation like in Belgium with regards to discrimination or racism?
Thank you for your answer! Well, I can only speak for the city I live in which is Antwerp and one of the most diverse cities in my country. I think racism is a very sore topic here, try googling "Sinterklaas". Sinterklaas or Saint Nicholas in English I think, comes to Belgium and the Netherlands every year on december 6th. This is a fun holiday we celebrate and kids get chocolate, clementines, marsepein and something called speculaas. Sounds very happy am I right? Well, it's not because he brings his "helpers" with him. These helpers are black men and women wearinf bright red lipstick and basically listen to the saint. And there is the discussion on whether it's blackface or not ( which it obviously is). I would say this sums up our country. Once we want to talk about the issue , they brush it off. It's very hard to explain so here is an article about it. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.thebulletin.be/saint-nicolas-and-black-pete-belgian-tradition-racist-undertones&ved=2ahUKEwjNuaKsy-ThAhXDIVAKHYgBAzcQFjAAegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw1iIm2R3bcQKDVZxJffHQvf
Don't say the "q" word!!!!! My eyes popped open as if you used a curse word or something! Lol. Mind you, I know little about medicine. (Did some bio in uni. Though)
Haha thank you! I worry about losing my wedding ring more than it getting dirty. Also, I tend to take it off before doing a 'procedure' or just wear gloves over it xx

And what they thought me in school was that this "Black Pete" was black because of the soot from the chimney.....
@@najmahssn This is honestly very shocking, I am speechless.
