- Minecraft has over 200 million accounts, dating back as far as 11 years. However, the first account to have ever registered on Minecraft is unknown, after years of debate and searches conducted by other youtubers (which have not led anywhere). This video is about a search by me and some friends, that has led me through many rabbit holes and old sites, in pursuit of the elusive oldest Minecraft account.
And no, it's not Notch.

Imagine just trying out a random game back in 2009 and then 14 years later being tracked down because of this
I cannot even begin to imagine being one of the first 100 Minecraft accounts ever registered.
Imagine doing something completely random and half-serious on some obscure website that you and only a handful of other people saw potential in, and fast-forward 10 years, that site becomes one of the biggest websites on the world, rivaling the likes of Wikipedia or UA-cam.
Honestly, I couldn't be able to sleep on that. It's bigger luck than winning a national lottery.

From a developer point of view the first account would likely have been made before the feature was complete so the person developing it could test and iron out any issues. Your best option would be to reach out and find the developer who created the account feature and you would have a very high chance that he would be the first person to create an account for the sake of debugging.

First account on a webapp I built at work was "dicks", but it was deleted before it was made live. The first account was likely a test account made by a dev, but likely not their personal account.
There's also a good chance that a backup was made before the 2015 purge, the best way would be to tweet at Jeb and Notch. Same with the pack.png project, it'll probably at least provide a lead.

*Note: The Roblox account "Roblox" wasn't actually the first account. Back when Roblox accounts became a thing, people got assigned a RANDOM user id when the signed up, so it used to not go up from one. They changed it so it went up by one, made the Roblox account, and then, basically, the first account was lost to time. edit: by "lost to time" i mean just like not very easy to find anymore

i think one of the first accounts was a test account to test login, i remember the name being "admin" or smth but i'm barely believing what my memory says

and user Roblox was originally user id 69
Quick mention: The “ROBLOX” account wasn’t the first Roblox account. It was admin, who after a couple updates was changed to 28, then deleted.
Update: Let me clarify a few things. No, Roblox did not start in the 90s. But, David Bazucki (sorry if I misspell it) did make a physics engine called interactive physics in the 90s. Second of all, I didn't remember exactly what the numbers were, but I sure can tell you, the ROBLOX account wasn't the first Roblox account!
Update 2: The real first ROBLOX account actually got banned to test out the banning system, Fave made a video called first roblox accounts, if I remember correctly. Still, thanks for all the likes and comments, I appreciate it!

Rays (Rays Works) is actually one of the oldest confirmed accounts and is a youtuber. I also met someone who has one of the oldest accounts and would play on capture the flag minigame at the time.
I’m sure Notch is the oldest. He definitely needed to test the registration so who’s gonna do it if not the creator himself.
damn i just commented this before i saw this, i also made another point that notch may have purged the test accounts before releasing the feature, however notch would still technically be the oldest account, if not the oldest current account.

First of all we have no idea if Notch is even a "bad person", he's clearly the type of person who just kinda says whatever he feels like and he seems to contradict his own beliefs a lot. Besides that's not even very relevant.
Second, when you are developing something, and especially if you are the only developer, you test stuff out a lot and often that involves pretending to be a user, interacting and creating accounts and whatnot _before_ release. Therefore, Notch definitely owns the first account(s) so there's your answer. If you want to figure out the first account that isn't owned by Notch, you're probably gonna have to ask the man himself.

The Official Roblox account is not actually the oldest Roblox account. There where accounts made in the early testing days that where later deleted. The account that was considered first was “Admin” that is now also permabanned and deleted.

you can use the mojang api in order to see if the scamper account is the original account or if it has been purged. if the account was purged, the creation date would be in 2015. if it wasnt, the creation date would say 2010, but it would be in 2009 because that is when scamper registered the account.
Notch has to have tested the account system by making an account before he released the update, but it is possible that that account was a different account than the Notch account.
edit: It is also possible that he deleted this testing account to test account deletion
This. The times I had to develop account creation in applications I always tried to create accounts with random or funny names, I never put the nicks I usually use.

The account was probably made just to test the database that stores account info to make sure it works, I wouldn't doubt it if account deletion wasn't a thing yet and he just went back and either removed it manually from the database or just straight up deleted the database.
Try getting in contact with Notch, he's somewhat active nowadays. Though, it's easier said than done...

Little remark: It was not hosted by "php". That's a programming language, and phpBB (the forum service) can be selfhosted and is not owned by them, just the code is owned by them. The code was probably hosted on a website hoster and used a phpBB plugin.

It has to be that Nikica guy. He was on the forums trying to register when the option first ever became available. He was trying to register without the saving level incentive - which means he was doing it early and not after playing the game. Also he say "the page doesn't work' which means he was actively trying to register when the option became available and was the first to once the link was fixed. It had to be him
One argument you have not mentioned in your video that would support Notch being the first user is the fact that early Minecraft development was obviously amateur hour where all functionality was cobbled together by a single individual. This means that the chance of Notch having a separate development database server for his user database functionality is very small. And because no sane programmer would post a 'you can register now' announcement without at least testing the most naive code path (=account successfully created), you can assume that Notch indeed created the very first user. Obviously, there is a chance he created several (test1, test2, etc) and deleted them later... but I think it is even more likely he just bashed his own name in there. After all, any system with multiple users needs an administrator, and while having an admin makes no sense for the game part, for the database part it does. Since 'admin' makes no sense to have as a user for that system at that point, it makes sense he'd just want to safeguard his own name instead. So IMHO, it is highly likely 'Notch' is the id0 Minecraft account.

I was one of the first ever Minecraft players! I started June of 2009, and I have not played since July or August 2009. I still have the original email from creating my account, and an email from when my account was hacked/purged a few years later in Feb 2015 :(

if you didnt play after august 2009 you never paid for an account. those so called non-premium accounts were deleted on february 4th 2015, that may be why

What was the Flash game that didn't load? If it's downloadable, there's that one desktop Flash game player that might play it.
Flash is dead, Google stopped supporting it, so it wont work even if you have the program. It could've been saved if it was brought to the refuge, but I highly doubt anyone remembered its existence. Most games were saved, most were not.
