I had a custom fit for a driver, an Epic Flash Sub Zero driver, I waited 3 weeks for the call to come & collect, the call came on the day I heard the Mavrik was Callaways new release. I have not tried the Mavrik but I'm happy with the driver have.
Bought a whole set of Epic Flash woods second hand (1, 3, 5, 7). LOVE THEM! No need to chase the new stuff every year. The tech upgrades are minimal. Love the Callaway shaft adjustments and the head weights and slider in the heads. Custom fit myself with weights from Golf Works and reshafted them using available adapters. None of the new(er) woods should be off the shelf solutions! I bet James will love the Paradym when it comes out! BTW, I'm using F2 shafts that are .5" over with mid-sized grips. Basically a combo I would never be able to test at any pro-shop.
I’ve had the Epic Flash for about a year. I think it’s close to a perfect Driver. I hit it longer and straighter than anything I’ve ever played. Last week I hit one off the deck on a tight flat lie and it was in my top 5 all time shots. I also have it in sub zero but nothing as long as the regular head.
I agree...Can’t ignore that much of a dispersion difference. For you, at least, it’s not close. Maverick all the way. I’m with you on the Orange color too. If I did buy o e of those I’d change the color too. I’d either murder it out or add some red accents. 😀
Yep, big dispersion difference ... however, the added adjustability with the Flash weight system means potential flexibility in changing ball flight. Would have been interesting to see the difference with the weight in the Fade setting
I have both these drivers in 9 deg and found that I hit the Epic Flash straighter, with the Mavrik having a pronounced fade bias. I think this is partly due to the sliding weight on the Epic Flash which I have in the draw setting. So I would definitely recommend the Epic Flash and anyone upgrading should go to the Epic Max or Epic Speed, whichever suits. I note that you are not alone as a pro finding the Epic Flash tends to draw more, as this has been found in other utube videos. As your flight was a consistent draw I would think you just need to aim a bit more right. Your Mavrik dispersion was both ways with more of a fade tendency, just as I found. Thanks for your video - always topical!
I was fitted for the epic flash driver and woods, along with the rogue irons last yr. didnt have the cash for the irons, but bought the woods, and i LOVE them!!! and the colors are awesome in my opinion, got the mini staff bag as well. did get the mavrik irons this yr and absolutely loving them as well. thats a great combo, flash woods, mavrik irons, md4 wedges, odyssey stroke lab 1 blade. cant go wrong!!!
Curious to know what condition you bought that in? Only seeing the one I'm looking for in "good" condition. I think I'd pull the trigger in "very good" condition, but I could be wrong.
Ryan Lynch it was like new and did not appear to have been used much at all. As the prices drop and with sales, inventory is probably more limited. Might try Global Golf or 2d Swing.
@@ryanlynch5974 I did the same as David recently during a sale. Had to keep checking to find the Tensei in a regular, though there were lots of Evenflows. Mine was listed as "very good". When it arrived, it had very slight signs of use (all could be wiped off) and a sticker that said it was from a fitting cart. The headcover was a generic Callaway sock-type, which I actually prefer. I'm very pleased.
For a fair test, you should slide the weight on the Epic Flash all the way to the toe. That would put it in a similar spot as the Mavrik's immovable weight. I bet your dispersion would be at least a little different, since all your Epic went left.
I have not watched the video yet, but I will not be upgrading my Epic Flash for at least 5 years. Now I will watch just for the information and opinions. ;) ;)
Great video Thanks from another quarantined American. I noticed you have a very strong left hand grip ( four knuckle?) Curious if you want a knuckle weaker your left shots would disappear. Just wondering.
Good to see another head to head 👏👏. Any chance when this lockdown is over I would like to see the Mavrik go up against the Rogue if you can 🤞 I replaced my driver back in February and I went in open minded but secretly wanting the SIM to match my 5 wood,GAPR LO,irons and putter but unfortunately on the day the the SIM didn’t perform as well as the Mavrik so I went with that one and was really enjoying it until we was put on lockdown
James, I went from the Rogue to the Epic Flash. I gained pretty close to 20+ yds with the Epic. I absolutely love that driver. I don't see me changing drivers anytime soon. I have not ht the Maverick, so I cannot compare those 2 with my swing.
Fitted for original EPIC (still have) , looked at the Flash - but swing speed at 95 is too low, so got the Rogue which gave + 10 yards (in bag) + better dispertion, Mavrik - Yuk to colour. How did you perform with Rogue and have you compared to ST200?
Would love to see a comparison between something really "old" like the Taylormade M1 versus the new SIM. You can pick up a 2016 version for 150 bucks now. How much of a difference is there compared to the difference in price?
I've tried a LOT of drivers in the last 10 years. Granted I'm now 68 yrs old and have a lower swing speed. I good drive for me anymore is 235yds. That said I take my old 13° degree Callaway FtiZ with me every time I test drive a new driver. I am EXTREMELY willing to buy a new one...but...the FtiZ is still in the bag.
You cannot get a proper head to head of the new technology in both heads without using your own fitted driver shaft for each club. TXG Golf does it way better
the GEOdude I have both. Mavrik is much better due to the forgiveness. Also I think shots not centered have a faster ball speed as well. When both are hit well and dead middle, very little in distance but that’s with most newer drivers. Now it’s about forgiveness, consistency and ball speeds ok off center strikes.
I’ve tried the Mavrik and must confess it performed well although not enough to persuade me to change my Titleist TS3 and part with £399. A vlog on exercises we should be doing to increase our flexibility and speed would relieve the boredom as we wait patiently for the lifting of the lockdown😀
I did not try the epic flash , was using the g410 last year. Went and tried out a few drivers and the Mavrik Max was very good for me, more distance , speed , straight .. it’s in my bag now.
I still have my Epic Flash Sub Zero custom color version from last year. I find it difficult to get comfortable with it. It feels great when you catch it, and it goes a long way, but very much feel like Michelson, all over the place. I also have the SIM and Ping G410 LST which I prefer both of those to the Callaway. Looking at your dispersion with it, that is very similar to mine. My other drivers are way more consistent. I have issues with the Callaway going too far right and it's WAY too flat at address. I've tried the upright setting which is better, but still it's so wild even with a custom Hzrdus shaft. No upgrade for me. I'll stick with my other drivers.
please compare the 3 wood versions of both of these clubs (the epic flash sub zero 3 wood vs the mavrik sub zero 3 wood)! It would also be awesome if you could go into why you think Henrik Stenson has went for the epic flash sub zero 3 wood over the mavrik
What you have to think about is it going to help you ie easier to hit more forgiving and will it be beneficial to your game . That just my opinion. I'm still using Ping G30 as that does the job for me. Stay safe James keep it going mate
For everyone who comments on the color on the bottom. When you’re hitting the ball you never see the bottom. The top line is fantastic. Funny because when you see reviews of the Sim, they talk about how good it looks setting up to the ball (which is top line) but then talk about the color when discussing the Mavrik. Makes no sense.
Great video. Now let's compare the Flash and Mavrik fairway woods and see how they line up. At least for the 3 wood, you'll lose me the minute you take away my shaft adjustment option. That's where we know the Flash is still the daddy. Far as the current video goes, theoretically you should be able to move that left bias dispersion to the right with the perimeter weighting movement, so that bias shouldn't be a dealbreaker. The Mavrik, on the other hand, if the shaft doesn't fix it, you'll need a new swing.
Epic is still their top-end product. They're just confusing people with the alternating product cadence. That's why Mavrik fairways are bonded & Epic Flash have the adjustable hosel. The only reason to dump a Flash for the standard Mavrik is if you're one of the people who hates the sound of Epic Flash. Sub Zero guys should look hard at the Mavrik SZ because it's significantly more forgiving than Epic SZ. And the Mavrik Max might be interesting to anyone who's playing Epic with the weight in the heel.
I wasn't able to do a thing with that Mav Max. I was able to get a much friendlier ball flight with the TS2 and the SIM Max, which is what I ended up going with. I think you're right on though. The only reasons to switch from the Flash is the sound and/or apparently if you struggle with too much spin.
I'm playing an F9 because I struggle with too much spin but it is NOT forgiving. Good days are "holy s***" good but bad days are awful. I'm addicted to unforgiving drivers with awesome upside, going back to SLDR. My fitting last year came down to F9 vs Flash and it was really close. I made the wrong decision because I was swinging well that day. Currently surfing Callaway pre-owned for a Flash 😂
@@canyonaro that F9's a killer. I really liked mine and on a whim i traded for an M6. Took my fitting numbers/tendencies and bought a handcrafted yellow hzrdus and slapped it on. That F9 is sexy to look at and I wanted more than anything to get a white speedzone but my simulator swing said ts2/SIM Max and my real course swing says M6 right now. Forcing me to look at the inner beauty and not what's on the outside. 🤣
Performance wise, they are virtually identical, I just can’t get my head round the MAVRIK spelling and that is the one thing that would put me off buying one! EPIC FLASH just sounds better. I will stick with my Callaway Rogue for the time being. Great test though. Would love to see comparisons between the budget brands such as Benross, Macgregor and Wilson.
Recently got a Epic Flash Sub Zero on Callaway's preowned website for $245. It's basically brand new. Had the headcover and wrench as well. Deals are out there ✌
Same here. I actually got both the standard and Sub zero versions. My whole bag is Callaway now and I couldn't be happier especially at the price I got all of them on Preowned.
Coming up with ideas at Callaway like using colors that nobody likes so you can pay for custom colors. Makes me think Ping offering heads without turbulators for a nice upcharge of course.
Great video I prefer Epic Flash tbh even though I'm a Taylormade guy and never buy new I wait a couple of years before purchase as I have bought M4 at Christmas
I currently use the Epic Flash and got fitted (compared) for the Mavrik last month. The numbers weren't as good as my Epic, so I kept my Epic Flash. Didn't like the feel or the performance of the Mavrik. Just me.
It's all sales hype when these companies bring out new clubs.. epic , rogue, epic flash and now maverick. All go the same distance within a few yards. Different sounds and a slight variation in spin. But never gonna put 10-15yards on your drive. Well unless you wasn't fitted correctly in the first place. Paying to learn to swing better with a better strike ( strike is king) will benefit you more
Forgetting all the subjective elements like color, look , etc and basing everything on the objective performance it's a coin flip. Performance trumps everything else and there's no difference in the clubs per this testing. Thanks James, it all makes sense because how much improvement could there be in just one year = not much.

I’ve never heard anyone say-“Wow-I really love the colors-they’re great!” Mostly-because it’s an excellent club “I guess I can live with it” is the best I hear. I’ll wait until the next one. I refuse to pay $$$ for a color I absolutely hate.
Every year oems blow smoke up our behind about how the latest and greatest is longer. Get the spin rates down on the Epic Flash and it's longer than the Marvik.
I've used countless expensive drivers my golf mates use and they perform no better than my second hand Ping G15. Average golfers don't need these overpriced clubs unless you wanna gift us one pal 😄
Hopefully the world retains some normality after we emerge from the pandemic. Priorities tested. Changing clubs may not be a luxury for the masses. Sadly.
Although I'm always partial to a club upgrade we'd all probably be better off investing the money in golf lessons

I’ll wait until the next one. I refuse to pay $$$ for a color I absolutely hate.
Not much difference for the average player , Maverick to rouge as this is the club it’s ment to be replacing
Lets wait for the Epic Maverick Flash for 2021.
It will be called Big Bertha Maverik Fusion....you heard here first. 😉
dpardo74 Ok the Big Bertha Epic Maverick Flash Fusion Alpha 1 Tour Excel Speed Back
I like the rouge best
“Mavrik flash”
Every year oems blow smoke up our behind about how the latest and greatest is longer. Get the spin rates down on the Epic Flash and it's longer than the Marvik.
SI love my Rogue.
I've used countless expensive drivers my golf mates use and they perform no better than my second hand Ping G15. Average golfers don't need these overpriced clubs unless you wanna gift us one pal 😄
Mavrik for me on looks.
The color choices are probably on purpose so they can sell customs.
Hopefully the world retains some normality after we emerge from the pandemic. Priorities tested. Changing clubs may not be a luxury for the masses. Sadly.
Clearly the MAVRIK was a better choice...
My sub zero is adjustable and that is the bottom line
mavrik flash in black and neon lights
Not even one Straight🙂
Maybe and Epirik or Mavipic????? But yea like an earlier comment, don't get a new driver get lessons.
1 minute in I’m going to say no?
Always wanted the Epic Flash.... thanks kids 😂
No,the place is in lockdown, keep your powder dry.
Care to explain this mate?
No difference it’s like fishing all about money
Who (except reviewers) really gives a rat's patootie about the color or the sound of a driver?
1. Dispersionm yes.
2. Distance, yes.
2. Cost, yes.
People choose clubs initially based on their looks! All the other stuff is a bonus!
