Maybe I'm crazy, but I've always felt like closets and cabinets reflect your emotional state. If my mind is chaotic and stressed, my closet looks like the entrance to hell. If I take the time to tidy it up/clear out stuff that doesn't belong there, I instantly feel so much lighter and happier.
I so relate to you! I LOVE organized "closed" spaces. A friend once asked me why I was decluttering my cabinet when all I had to do was close the doors so I didn't see the clutter. You get it, don't you? :)
I've been decluttering for the past 3 yrs and I still can't beleive the amount of things I had. I used to be a maximalist and 3 yrs ago I decided to paint my walls white, except for one wall which is bright yellow, and wow what a différence it made! If struck me how cluttered my home looked and I began my decluttering journey. Things are so much easier to find and everything feels more organized and peaceful. My decluttering process was "onion peel" style and I'm still decluttering but it's easier now I've pretty much reached the goal I envisioned! Off topic, that shade of blue looks amazing on you!
My house has white walls. I declutter stuff I no longer use. I keep a box that i out stuff in to donate. Working a full time job it is hard to do otherwise but I feel better and have more to do. I still won’t get rid of my color and memories of family.
I also put photos behind the front photo in a frame. They are in order of the seasons so the autumn picture of my grandkids with pumpkins, costumes, etc. now becomes seasonal decor as well as lovely memories.
And if you want to try something new. Get a digital photo frame like I did & it will display a lot of pictures, one at a time for you. I love mine. The new ones, you can even have family & friends send their pictures directly to your digital photo frame. Even more awesome. 😉🤗
I 1,000% agree with you about the curtains! I don’t know why more people don’t talk about this. I went from burgundy curtains to white/semi-sheer curtains and it was incredible the difference it made!
If you put Velcro on the remote, put the scratchy part on the tv and the soft part on the remote. Otherwise you will always have the remote stuck to your carpet or couch 😬
Yes, it is so refreshing to open a cabinet and have it organized and uncluttered. I am #Teamafewthrowpillows - Agree with the toys segment! We had four kids and the fewer toys we had, the more they played. We made sure we kept toys that encouraged their imaginations.
I have been watching decluttering videos like Joshua Becker, the minimal mum and so many. But No one inspired me to get up and make it happen. Your only one video made me to declutter my house. Thanks.
It's because of her soft voice, positive attitude🥰. She's not yelling at us and blaring soft orrr loud music in the background which is sooo bloody distracting!!
Yes!!!! 👏🙌 I am so happy I discovered minimalism before we moved because decluttering and reorganizing with a fresh start has been so eye opening and wonderful! I found what really helped me was this incredible book called The Cozy Minimalist Home by Myquillyn Smith - she touches on a lot of what you mentioned and how we need to let a home breathe with the stuff in it and not feel like every wall and area needs more stuff!!! 🥰😍
Great tips! I used to love throw pillows but I got tired of picking them up off the floor. I really enjoy a well organized closet/cupboard. Even if no one else sees it, I know it’s there. The tip I need to implement the most is your first one. I still just have too much stuff.
I recently decluttered our throw pillows. We’re down to just two pillows per couch. I’m thinking about taking some wall art off the walls in the master bedroom. It will definitely feel calmer once I do.
After 4 years of moving from maximalist to minimalist, we have lots of open space & room to move in our 600 sq ft home!! I once felt there was no storage in our home. We have 1 closet in the house and only one upper & 1 lower cupboard in the kitchen. Now that I have decluttered, we have space in our closet & kitchen!
Behind the cabinet clutter is that silent talking clutter for me,,since I know its cluttered it always is talking to me as a thing that still needs to be done.
I honestly hate decor. I don’t understand the purpose. It’s just more to clean and dust. It’s felt so much better, as if I could breathe more deeply after I took away decor that I had around the house. I didn’t know or realize that this contributed to my anxiety. I don’t like framed family photos either. I already know what my family looks like. 😆 I do have a few decor pieces, mainly potted plants just to make it look like my house is actually lived in - but the toys make double sure of that! lol
We were graciously given free linens when we moved back from overseas two years ago, but the mix of colors was an eyesore. I've just started buying new towels two at a time, and I've got my eye out for a different bedspread. I also replaced mismatched garage sale dish sets with a larger set of plain white dishes I found someone selling online.
I have been good over the years at decluttering clothes, toys, dishes, papers, some furniture .... Esp b/c I’ve moved a few xs. Thatz always a huge purge ! And for like 4 years I’ve delved in even more ... via all these great simplifying vids on y’tube ! Y’all are GREAT ! But still : #1 on my list on this continuing journey is definitely: DECLUTTER MORE ! Yepp ! It’s true. That said, I know I’ve made tons of progress. Just donated 2 bags of linens ( kitchen garbage bags) to the animal shelter., 5 clothing pieces, 1pair of barely worn shoes, some CDs & a back pack to the donation cntr. Still more to go ! It’s all about focusing on living more intentionally, right ? OH ! Wow great idea about the stickers on the fruit. Why not ? DOES make a difference & is easy to do ! Thank you for this video. Less busy visuals in general here are a great reminder, too. Less photos, matching towels & dishes, & less patterns. Super ! Thank you so much !
I get anxiety if my closets are not organized and I agree with the crisp look of all white bins. I use to display pictures but I do not anymore I just like them in albums. I still have frames wrapped and put away they have to go!!
Team throw pillows!! 😍 I totally agree with the behind doors organization… True, it’s behind closed doors, but I know it’s there, & being organized, just makes it so much more easier for me, & comforting, as well as eye pleasing, to me when I open the door(s)… and no, to all the family photos lingering around. Maybe one, or two, here and there, but that’s it.
A few weeks ago I started taking the stickers off my fruit and veggies too! I noticed it made me want to eat those things more because they look fresh and ready to go
WEEEE LOVE🥰 YOUR SMILE, POSITIVE ATTITUDE, CALM , CLEAR VOICE, NO MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND AS Y'ALL SPEAK THANK GOD FOR THAT and no rambling off topic as sooo many u tubers do. Chatting 10 minutes or so it feels like to getting to the subject at hand. BLESS YOU LADY! 🙌
I love throw pillows. They are a great way to change the look of your room without major cost. They add texture and warmth. BUT now that I have two young kids…I’m constantly tidying them up and it’s driving me nuts. So I’ve recently culled a few of them and I have to say it looks better. Might use less pillows moving forward.
Decluttering and organizing my cabinets and closets was life-changing! No more opening the linen closet and having stuff fall out, then shoving it closed with my shoulder. It’s such a relief to open the door, take out what I need and shut the door. And I am team no-throw-pillows. I just can’t. 🤪
I agree with you about organizing the hidden stuff. Dawn called it “silent to do list”. I’m like you that on the counters it’s looks amazing - but when I use to open the cupboards - it was another story. I found putting my three favorite photos in the cupboard where I have my coffee cups is so nice - every time I get my coffee cup - I see my 3 favorite pics of my kids behind cupboard 🚪 doors- but they are not on display in the outside kitchen area. It just feels personal but organized 😄
I really like the concept of using velcro for the tv remote! Great idea! 👍 I also don’t like the stickers on the fruit we buy. I take them all off and wash them immediately. This wasn’t mentioned but another thing I can’t stand is the tags on any kind of towels. I think it looks tacky bc they tend to stick out after washing them. I think it looks messy. Lol I cut them off carefully right after I purchase new ones. The towels fold up much nicer as well. Just my opinion but have you ever noticed that on any of yours?
I never miss your videos - so finding this one from a year ago was awesome! I'm also Team Throw Pillow Take the stickers off the fruit Organize behind cabinet doors These tips were such a practical mix Love! Love! Love!
I have a Skylight photo frame where you email the pictures to the frame. That way you can have only one frame sitting out and still have pictures of family and friends showing.
I loved your suggestion of using baskets in the same color. Will repaint mine after I get rid of my clutter. And also the rotating of photos, that is clever. And not using too many colors, that is an awesome idea 💡 Thank you
I liked you tip regarding the velcro and the TV remote. Years ago, my husband attached a string to our remote with a screw and the other end of the string to the leg of our coffee table. We never lost the remote after that. But I think your suggestion is much better!
I laughed when you talked about the stickers on the fruit! I have a very minimal home and I try not to keep anything on the counter but always take the stickers off of any fruit or veggies that need to be!
I do too and also that’s a good way to find a place for stuff that is sitting out that doesn’t have a home. If your closets are cluttered, you can’t fit anything else in there lol.
I have never liked the huge photo walls and hallways full of photos, it always overwhelmed me. Then I had someone comment when they came over that I should have at least a few. So I got a small photgrid where I can hold a few and it had a boundary. Now I love switching out the photos:)
I have a few pictures in my family room of my kids college graduation pics and a couple on 2 shelves of cherished past family members. But I did just purchase a bunch of bins to de-clutter our pantry. My husband has been complaining about that for months. And I have been working on my bedroom for a while now, and I also just bought a nice white comforter for my bed. I may regret this because I have a black dog that likes to sleep with me, and I am replacing a quilt I made myself that I love but it has a LOT of colors. You are really motivating me. I cleaned out under the kitchen sink, one shelf in our kitchen cabinets that had a ton of out dated meds and vitamins and I am trying to simplify my bedroom. Thanks so much!
I'll declutter and when it inevitably gets messy I'll go ahead and clean. Where it's still to cluttered will take to much time or resistance and that how I can tell where I still need to work on. If it's fully decluttered it feels simple and easy to clean (compared to what I'm used to lol).
Then that isn’t clutter. It’s beauty. Your definition of clutter doesn’t have to be the same as everyone else’s. However if you truly want to minimize what’s on your wall, maybe put a few or even one of your pieces on the wall and rotate out every month. Then it would draw the eye to really appreciate that one piece and all the nuances of it instead of 20 pieces as one big whole
I read the average home has 300,000 items!! 1 in 10 people rent storage unit/s for their overflow. The US has about 3.5%.of the world's children yet consumes 40% of toys! Houses have tripled in size in the past 50 yrs. The average person has 1 outfit for every day of the month(30) in 1950 it was 9 outfits! We are a nation of over consumption. Love your channel!
My old frig was so full of my extended families pictures and kids I had from school - it was a memory board but true - contributed to a cluttered house look😂😉🤷 started so many conversations with company/friends though👍
I got rid of the area rugs in the kitchen, hallway, and 1 in my bedroom. Now it's so much easier to mop the floors and these areas looks more open and airy.
i have OCD and have always had everything neat. the pantry, refrigerator, the closets...my clothes are color coded. everything is so neat my friends make fun of me. my children grew up with this and one is also very neat but my son is a pig. my father lived with me and went behind me to check if everything was done to military perfection. i have been purging for 3 weeks and am soooo happy. this is fun !!!
That color looks beautiful 😍 on you! That’s definitely your color. On my screen it looks like periwinkle. Just lovely! I switch my pics out according to season typically. I have 4 children and LOTS of pics so I also have a collage of framed pics in my hallway. You see them if you walk to the bedrooms or bathrooms but when you’re sitting to relax they’re far out of sight. Great tips as always! Thank you! ❤️
Nope! No throw pillows. And only 1 throw blanket per room. I also don't have a pantry & don't buy processed foods (allergies) so my food goes in the fridge🤷 My walls are painted in color, but all furniture and textiles are cream through the whole house. It gives the room personality without being overwhelming.
Love these ideas!! I've decluttered my home (it's a constant process, actually!) but I'm still looking for the little things I can do to keep it looking tidy and these were great ideas :)
Yes!!!! I’m not a fan of family photos on every surface!!!! I have a few favorites I rotate out…my MIL on the other hand…😳🙄 she has built-in bookcases in the living room and it’s pictures on every shelf…
I'm big on having organized cupboards! I don't have a pantry. My closets need to be organized too. I'm not into more than 2 throw pillows at the most. For some reason I've never liked to have very many personal photo's out as I always feel it looks too cluttered.
We use all of our throw pillows and we had one get destroyed and we were like we don't need another one we never use it 🤷 out shopping I came across a super cute one and got it and my husband was like thank God I didn't want to say anything but I missed the extra pillow 😂
I’m going to need to declutter the 6 indoor cats and all their stuff. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also I recently saw some gray/white dishes at Dollar Tree that some of your viewers might love! I don’t do the gray color scheme bc I’m addicted to color but since it’s popular I thought I would mention. 🤍 🖤
I hear you with the cat stuff! I have 4 indoor cats and two days ago I threw out almost all their old toys and toy basket. They have a few favourites left. I also donate any of their beds/scratchers/small furniture that they don't use often to the local shelter - as well as any blankets, towels and bedding of mine that I don't need. But their stuff is still everywhere, lol!
@@BronwenBudgets I know! I got rid of some stuff and I'm still stumbling over it. One of my babies has platelet issues and hides so I need to keep her hideout and another sickly cat has a diff hideout lol 🤣 plus so many cat boxes bc my cats are in "zones" due to not getting along 😂🙄
@@fabienneroure9995 yes lol it’s ridiculous. We have 6 indoor cats and some of them do not get along so we have 3 zones right now with a cat fountain in each zone and a cat box or two, I have 5 cat boxes in all. Cat and dog beds. Cat houses. Anything they don’t use I put away for awhile or get rid of.
I appreciate all these tips, but I LIKE to feel “closed in” a bit in my home. All the light/airy/neutral/bare space makes me feel sort of exposed somehow. Am I alone here?
It's funny how the colours of your walls make you feel. I love white grey and black together. But stupidly when we moved in our house nearly 8 yrs ago I thought it would be cool to have a purple bedroom. How wrong was I. I like the colour purple and have had clothes and accessories in purple but it's not a good bedroom colour. I hate it my bedroom just isn't the calming place I want it to be. I have vowed to go to what I love and have white and grey walls when we decorate in the winter (to many outside jobs to get it done sooner) may even add the hallway in, it is a neutral colour but I don'tlike beiges/browns.
Throw Pillow Controversy: I have a very large L-shaped couch. I had seven pillows on it. When, staying the house for showings I put away three and was amazed at how much less cluttered it looked!
Be careful about putting pictures over/under other pictures, I know many, many people who have had their pics stick together and ruined the whole lot. My Aunt put the school pictures of her grandchildren on top of one another for years, it was only when she went to sort them that they had in effect melted together. They heat with a wood stove and their home was quite warm (actually HOT). Only the top picture didn't get too marred, all of the others were stuck together (on both sides of the picture) and ripped the photo's to pieces, it was heartbreaking. I learned from her and have since gone to thrift stores, perused the frames and buy only the best of the best -- for future use. As a bonus, was a real financial savings since they sell at a fraction of the cost new and I always have an assortment of sizes & styles to choose from : D
With the remote, I totally agree with the remotes being attached to the tv. I will add that for me, my husband will frequently have it at night and then fall asleep and I can't find the remote in the morning. He either carried it with him to the kitchen or to the bathroom (you think I'm kidding lol), or it's lost in the chair or the couch. So I put a sticky Tile on it so now if it's ever lost, I can quickly ping the tile and it will start playing a tune.
Agreed
I recently implemented the 3 Objects Per Surface Rule. It forces me to either purge or find a better storage solution for everything.
I so relate to you! I LOVE organized "closed" spaces. A friend once asked me why I was decluttering my cabinet when all I had to do was close the doors so I didn't see the clutter. You get it, don't you? :)

Aw we
I’have been declutting for about 6 months, I feel very good and tired, but accomplished, it’s a good feeling!😅❤
I also put photos behind the front photo in a frame. They are in order of the seasons so the autumn picture of my grandkids with pumpkins, costumes, etc. now becomes seasonal decor as well as lovely memories.

I 1,000% agree with you about the curtains! I don’t know why more people don’t talk about this. I went from burgundy curtains to white/semi-sheer curtains and it was incredible the difference it made!
Photos! I love, love, love my digital photo frames. One frame but lots of memories!! 😘
If you put Velcro on the remote, put the scratchy part on the tv and the soft part on the remote. Otherwise you will always have the remote stuck to your carpet or couch 😬
A digital picture frame is also a great idea for cutting down on clutter 😃
My husband says they are called throw pillows because you are always having to throw them out of the way. Ha ha! We do not share this opinion.
HAHA!!!!
Hahahah

I get anxiety if my closets are not organized and I agree with the crisp look of all white bins. I use to display pictures but I do not anymore I just like them in albums. I still have frames wrapped and put away they have to go!!
Yes, photos in frames aren't really my thing. I love having one or two out but that's it!

Team throw pillows!! 😍 I totally agree with the behind doors organization… True, it’s behind closed doors, but I know it’s there, & being organized, just makes it so much more easier for me, & comforting, as well as eye pleasing, to me when I open the door(s)… and no, to all the family photos lingering around. family photos: we have our google photos linked to our tv and it plays a folder of pics that we send to it, we love it and so does our son
Remote issue... I got a letter organizer, set it behind the TV, and that's where ALL the remotes are "supposed" to go.

I do too and also that’s a good way to find a place for stuff that is sitting out that doesn’t have a home. If your closets are cluttered, you can’t fit anything else in there lol.
The tip for an uncluttered entry really resonated with me because, mine gets cluttered easily. First time I saw your video, liked it 😊
All your hacks appeal to me. Some of them I had discovered myself, but I find it very helpful that you explain them so clearly!!
I have never liked the huge photo walls and hallways full of photos, it always overwhelmed me. Then I had someone comment when they came over that I should have at least a few. So I got a small photgrid where I can hold a few and it had a boundary. Now I love switching out the photos:)

@@AMcDub0708 normally I have to do three at a time I like to do trios
Decluttering is a neverending project.
AGREE!
I really like the music! So fun!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching, Lauren!
That's CRAZY!!! I definitely used to be one of those people!
Team throw pillows 💞 and YES to the stickers on fruit..I've done that for years
100% YES!
My old frig was so full of my extended families pictures and kids I had from school - it was a memory board but true - contributed to a cluttered house look😂😉🤷 started so many conversations with company/friends though👍
I bet you loved all those wonderful conversations!
Also for affordable decor go to your thrift store or charity shop you'd be suprised how much great stuff you can find
Obsessed with the Velcro remote idea!! Awesome video!
Thank you! ❤️
A rug in the kitchen? That’s going to get filthy and surely it’s a trip hazard. Not to mention extra work when cleaning.
Right? I would never 🙈
ohhh I LOVE having it...so cozy when I'm doing the dishes! I wash it once a week :)
Nope! No throw pillows. And only 1 throw blanket per room.
I also don't have a pantry & don't buy processed foods (allergies) so my food goes in the fridge🤷
My walls are painted in color, but all furniture and textiles are cream through the whole house. It gives the room personality without being overwhelming.
Your house sounds beautiful!
can you say digital picture frame! i have like 1000 pictures and you always get a new and fun pictures everytime you look! best thing ever! :-)
Great idea!!
Be careful with very inexpensive dishes and mugs. They can contain a high lead content.
So many "grandma" houses have lots of pictures I've noticed. I don't know if it's a generational thing? Either way, if it makes you happy, DO IT!
I'm big on having organized cupboards! I don't have a pantry. My closets need to be organized too. I'm not into more than 2 throw pillows at the most. For some reason I've never liked to have very many personal photo's out as I always feel it looks too cluttered.
Yes, too cluttered for me as well
Haha Even when you try to stage your home to be cluttered, it still looks so clean and decluttered! You've won the game haha.
HAHA!
That's a brilliant idea about keeping several photos in a frame and rotating them! Thanks for sharing ...
Thank you! Glad you found this helpful!
We use all of our throw pillows and we had one get destroyed and we were like we don't need another one we never use it 🤷 out shopping I came across a super cute one and got it and my husband was like thank God I didn't want to say anything but I missed the extra pillow 😂
That's too funny!
@@dianasimplifies Omg so you have cat "zones" all over the house!?! LOL the things we do for our fur babies😅❤!
Thanks !!
Throw pillows and blankets definitely get used in our home. But only in the lounge room. We have enough for two for each person.
That sounds perfect!
Great tips! One of your best videos! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I appreciate all these tips, but I LIKE to feel “closed in” a bit in my home. All the light/airy/neutral/bare space makes me feel sort of exposed somehow. Am I alone here?
I bet there are lots of people who feel like this!
Going along with the family photos. I think it’s a great investment to get digital picture frames if you don’t want a lot of clutter.
Yes! Great idea!
Pillows and clear fridge
Decluttering in different areas I liked as it can kill the boreness I think.
Finally you have answered my questions and where to start to Decluttering. My home looks cluttered and my granddaughter says I’m a hoarder 😬😬😬
Great idea to spray paint bins!
I don't like beige or brown either. And it will by fun to get your walls to the color you love this winter!
Throw Pillow Controversy: I have a very large L-shaped couch. I had seven pillows on it. When, staying the house for showings I put away three and was amazed at how much less cluttered it looked!
Love all your tips!
Glad you like them!
The Velcro remote is genius!
Ah glad you liked it!
Love lots of family photos and color not just white.
Team Throw Pillow!
Great advice. You def. Sound like an elementary school teacher.❤
I love having pictures out 😬
Michigan has had temperatures like we live in Florida... HOT and HUMID! I have to use dark n out curtains or its miserable.
Oh I bet having the dark curtains helps so much!!!
Funny thing, one of my biggest pet peeves was going to someone's house and seeing baby photos on the walls, while the kids are older elementary age.
Congrats on 75k!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you so much, Ann!
Great ideas! Thank you!!!
We stick the remote to the side of the couch with the Velcro because that's where we use it when we're seated. It's awesome
Great idea!
Guilty about those stickers too!gotta go
Love your idea to spray paint storage bins!!
