  • Starting the downswing is fundamental to producing a good swing. In this lesson, I demonstrate the correct movement with the use of a prop to help players experience the required feeling of the stretch in the left shoulder, arm and wrist.

      Hi Padraig, what's next after the start of the downswing? Do I just rotate and the release of the club head happen naturally? The problem I am having right now is the casting and this video is perfect for me to fix it. Thank you!

    More than 15 years watching UA-cam lessons, lost confidence that golf principles that really works by armatures might not even exists. I am so delighted that eventually I find Paddy. His explanation of this "start downswing" and the "grip" and "wrist" action are fundamentals of golfing physics. Other people gave trivial advices that waste your time and cause out focus and chaos. THANKS PADDY!

    So, by far my biggest problem, to overcome the “hit” instinct and come over the top. I’ll bet the single most common problem among all amateur golfers. Two things: first, I tried this with resistance bands from the top of a door and immediately got the feedback of starting with the body, with the arms following behind as opposed to trying to “hit” the ball by muscling the club with the arms. Second, what a class act, golf HoFer, major champion, Ryder Cup captain, putting out the best, most practical, easy to understand instruction content on UA-cam for free. Thank you, Captain Harrington.

    • @yooper9062
      @yooper9062 Рік тому +1

      @@jeffc1736 Doesn't really matter; do what feels natural. So many top level golfers have had flatter swings (Hogan) and vertical (Bubba). The big piece they all have in common is what Paddy is emphasizing in this video which is the initial move on the downswing to get the club on the correct path. This video is probably the absolute best instruction I've ever seen for how to start the downswing.

    Padraig, I can't thank you enough for these videos. I am teaching myself Golf from scratch as i am going to use that as my LIIT cardio to lose couple hundred pounds and I'm just following the roadmap youve made. I'm just doing nothing but chipping and putting atm w/ 1/2 swing. Got a $200 set of Spalding clubs from amazon and gonna buy a season pass soon as courses open up in a few weeks here in North Dakota and play 3-4x a week. So much more engaging and fun than statically walking 1-2 hours. Plus w/ the backpack style golf bag it's like a light day hike. Anyways, I don't have the money to pay for lessons so teaching myself and was a lil overwhelmed with all the different info and you provided a clear and concise roadmap from chipping all the way to driving and progressively more intricate motions. My plan is to to just focus on each section until I get it down and figure at the end of it I should have a good foundation to build upon. Thank you so much for providing this for free here on UA-cam w/o a paywall. I think starting w/ nothing but 1/2 swing chipping has really helped me because obviously i'm hella fat right now KEKW and trying to emulate a 180lb normal dudes swing wasn't working, but just naturally moving athletically like you suggest is making a huge difference.

    This is so good. Thank you so much. For me, the part that resonated was when you said "Everything. Feel it with everything. Pull with everything." I've been trying to figure out what specific body part to trigger the downswing. Open the hips? Rotate the shoulders? "Pull a chain" as Sergio's dad suggested? The way you said "Just grab this towel and pull down with everything" makes so much sense. "Feel the stretch here, here, here and here." It also allows me to feel like I'm being an athlete instead of a robot trying to mash together 12 swing thoughts at once. Thank you, Padraig. Keep up the good work.

      Same for me. I haven't been content with my swing and my stock fade has turned into a slice many times. Been on youtube tinkering with tips and it's gotten worse. This, and especially the active wrists video will help me I think. I'm a bonafide weekend warrior. Sometimes not even that, sometimes I get 1 round in 3 weeks, and I expect to play good. Go figure. I need something that works most times, without many thoughts (which is the biggest killer for me right now) so will start with the wrist tips and face control. Then move on to this.
