Today, we lined up four Old Fashioned cocktails: Three were made using pre-mixed bottled while one was made by Johnny Drinks sr. How does his hometending experience stack up against the competition? Watch and find out!

I’m not much into pre-made stuff, but I gotta say, Woodford Reserve’s Old Fashioned syrup is 🔥. A simple fast way to get a perfect cocktail every time. For someone who enjoys multiple old fashioneds in one sitting, it’s nice to not have to take 3-5 minutes making them by hand every time I want another drink - especially if you’re making them for friends and family too.
Will definitely have to check it!

Love your guys content, have some bartenders on sometime. Learn and make better drinks. I like the spirit of free pouring and not measuring, but one can’t start with that, develop a good base, then freestyle.

Worst old fashioned I've ever had was the pre-made 4oz can on a delta flight. The Buffalo trace pre-made is pretty decent

I pry would like yours the best I do not sweet drinks very much at all. I like a profound taste and flavor. Bourbon and whiskey drinks are an acquired thing you build a pallet to them and what the different notes and bodies are. I’m quite used to black coffee and know my tasting notes well within that and for me alcohol if it’s sweet it’s like coffee with creamer just plain terrible. I can pick out fresh ingredients from a mile away as well which would be a dead give away.

Sorry but your son is right. The Midcentury old fashioned is (in my opinion) an abomination. First, we have ice now, so we use SYRUP and not sugar cubes. That's why it wasn't sweet enough. Secondly, stick with the orange peel twist.. the muddling of the orange is so 1950s! What is this, Mad Men? lol I'm just giving you a hard time, I know you're a pro. But personally my old fashioned is 1/4 oz syrup (usually charred oak & maple), 4 dashes angostura, 3 dashes orange, 2.5 oz whiskey, and then expressed peel
Definitely a preference thing. Some like them sweeter than others, a stronger orange taste, etc. thanks for watching man!

Makers mark is arguably the worst whiskey for an old fashioned.

Old fashioned with makers mark and angostura bitters and a tiny amount of sugar muddled with the orange and add a cherry. So good!

I personally don't like Maker's Mark at all and my go-to is Woodford Reserve. So I might have agreed with Jr. on this taste test. But I want to try your method of muddling orange into the bottom of my next OF!

The problem with these challenges, is the best part of a homemade old fashioned is the presentation, and this was missing it, but the bottled old fashioneds doesn't require that.

@@JohnnyDrinks The different pour amounts isn't a Dead giveaway it certainly could be bullet point though, orange pulp goes straight through that strainer and i would've thought the orange rim was a dead giveaway however I did make this comment before the taste test itself and was blown away by his review I thought he would've easily picked yours out glad you replied and we could talk about it great work fellas
Never muddle the orange. If put an orange zest in there that is just enough. Muddled orange makes it to sweet.

Hi Guys! Great Video. BTW, I am a big fan of OTR (On The Rocks) premixed cocktails. Primarily because I don’t have a Johnny Drinks making cocktails for me. The wife’s fav is The Aviation OTR. Keep doing what you are doing. Great Stuff!

Please try the bittermilk mixers. They make 3 different old fashioned mixes (traditional, Oaxacan and New Orleans). I like them a lot. Would be nice to see comparisons. Keep ‘EM coming.
