  • worn valve guides on exhaust side - cylinder 3 and 4
    compression test showed
    cylinder1 -170psi
    cylinder2-160psi
    cylinder3-30psi
    cylinder4-120psi
Leakdown test showed exhaust cylinder 3 and 4 to have leaking valve issues-cylinder 3 valve was blown and cylinder 4 was not seated right
All valve clearances on exhaust side were also tight.

No loss of power mate, Straight up there but never went no more from top rpm in 4th, 5 and 6 did not make a difference speed wise. plus while the bike was stationary it was as if i had leaking front header. back firing on deceleration too. All sorted now and bikes alot more happier.

I have recurring plug fouling that i now believe to be due to worn valve guides. Compression was fine as were valve clearances. Fresh plugs in, the bike runs great but now only does about 150 miles before the same plug fouls with what seems to be oil... Looks like i need to do this but I have no garage... good video.

any idea what was the reason of it ? maybe the mileage was not original .

How did you find out that they were worn, except of the compression test? Did the engine suffer power or you had a strange noise?

I know its 3 years since replying but the reason I had to strip it down was because it was making a right racket on tickover. Kind of like a tractor sound. Imagine not having a sealed system in your combustion chamber, while the valve should be sealing to make power it wasn't.it was leaking past the broken valve creating this noise. I eventually got a 2nd hand head and checked them before rebuilding.they were in better condition so built it back up again and it ran great for another 4 years. I'm actually in the middle of a full bike rebuild and noticed leaking around a cam chain side of the cylinder head. Finding residue in that area has made me think I had a warped head so this time around I have had the head skimmed to combat that problem.
