The eye issue could have happened very quickly (I currently have a girl who is blind in her left eye due to a haypoke, but now her right eye has turned cloudy which happened in 24 hrs from when I first noticed her eye). My vet has seen pigtures that I took and sent to my vet, so I can treat Pepper at home until our appointment. Bit nails don't grow that bad in 24-48 hrs.

@@stard.2296, no I haven't as I live in Australia and can only get Terramycin from America. I use an eye ointment called "Tricin" which I got from my vet and can get it without an appointment. The vet I have now I can pm/dm with videos or pigtures and my vet will say either "need to see piggy" or "here is how to treat at home". When Smokey developed fluid retention on Christmas night 2020, my vet told me how to treat her.

This same eye issue happened with my 5 year old male. The vet gave meds to try to fight it with a week follow up, 3 days after the first visit, his first eye looked EXACTLY like this piggies, and his second eye was starting to do the same thing, and he also loss use of his back legs, despite eye drops, eye moisturizer, antibiotics, and pain killers . I took him back the 3rd day and long story short they didn’t have the means to look for cancer with a CT, the closest one is 3 hours away, she recommended putting him down because she didn’t think he’d survive anaesthesia to remove both eyes and we didn’t want to prolong his pain with more tests 3 hours away that we felt would probably point us down the same road of euthanasia.
This was all a few weeks ago and I looked for a video from you Saskia! Even though I didn’t have it then, I’m glad this came up now (sorry for this sweet piggy) because it has given me peace of mind that we did the right thing in ending his pain, since you think this eye is in internal issue. Thank you for teaching me so much about pig care!

My piggie got her eye removed, it wasn't as bad as this one but at first we thought it was a traumatic injury and was treating it that way but the eye showed no improvement and started to come out and she lost funcionallity in that eye. We acted very fast but u know, when piggies have an issue it also is quick to damage them :/ They took x-rays and it turns out that a molar grew too much to the inside and was hitting the skull and eye area created an abcess, causing it to bulge out. The vet explained that this was going to happen eventually due her age, genetics and it was not caused by a traumatism.
Surgery went well, she has recovered entirely and is a lovely 7 year old one eyed guinea pig.

I'm happy that you refrained from judging the owner.
People are prideful, people are afraid. Something like this is neglect but people can be in a very bad place or already acknowledged their mistake. We also often notice problems first and take them seriously when they're at the worst stage.
So while this is absolutely not okay, we should accept the owner if they have reflected upon their mistake. Judging won't help both, animal and owner, as they might be too insecure/afraid to go to the vet then.

I'm curious was this a rescue or was this a lady looking for help? Because if it's the latter then she doesn't deserve to have that precious angel back. I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see her eye bulging the MOST obvious issue to notice, two lumps on her belly if only she was picked up but the other noticeable issue was the poor things feet. The poor things nails were curling. I mean let's face it. That poor thing has been neglected. Just my personal thought. If I am wrong I apologize however I doubt I am.

poor lil baby, even though when I had my guinea pigs i didn't trim their nails that often and sometimes I forgot to clean the cage, I feel like I was a pretty good owner. I fed them fresh food, carrots, celery, got them clean water, made sure they were well taken care of. When they passed I hope they knew I loved them. With Anderson, my first one who I was more attached too, I know he knew I loved him. I sat by him the whole day before he passed, singing him songs, holding him. I wouldn't leave my lil buddy, we've been through everything together. I miss him so much. I can' t believe somebody would allow that to happen to a poor piggo. When the slightest issue arose like my guinea pig breathing weird or something, we'd call a vet. poor lil piggo, I feel so sorry for it...

I just don’t understand how an guinea pig could be in such a position in the first place. Poor guinea...if my guinea pig had only a little bulging eye I would take her to the vet...😭

My piggy "Wombat" also had a tumour under his eye. Fortunately we had a very good vet who undertook anything to help. Thanks to his treatments Wombat still had a quiet normal one-eyed life. It was mean that piggie Wombat´s second name was Quasimodo then 🙈The doctor´s name was Dr. Buxbaum - i have to mention him.

My guinea pig eye recently started to bulge out and this is what it practically looked like. I just stopped by to get some tips and some products that could help her ease the pain until we're able to take her to a vet. This helped a lot. Thanks saskia!😁👍

I will answer you because you seem like a decent, kind girl. I’m the heartbroken mother who has tried to get help with my Peppa but the terramycin was out on Amazon until 5/21 and i looked for help, I went to a vet in my city and he does not take care of small animals. (The nails are bad because I hadn’t done them in about 6-8weeks) I have 2 other guinea pigs who have lived with me for 5 yrs and are fine. I rescued them all 5 years ago. The people who think I’m a monster, I’m not. I begged Saskia to help even though I knew they were shut down. I tried to put saline solution and a friend let me use the end of terramycin she had. I tried my best , too bad I’m not as good as some of the people on here. I LOVE ❤️ my animals and built a 12 ft cage with fleece for them and it’s been great until Monday May 11th, I responded to you because you sounded so kind and caring, not judgemental, please never change. God bless you

@@cindys.6446 I am sorry you weren't able to help Peppa sooner, it must have been difficult amidst a pandemic. Thank you for contacting Saskia and taking Peppa for an emergency care visit. Please update us on her condition and recovery process. Sending lots of love!

Cindy S. It’s a hard thing to watch for piggie owners as I’m sure it was hard on you. A lot of us are very fortunate to have great resources, even during a pandemic and I think we forget that not everyone does. I also know how fast things can go from “I think I can do this” to “holy crap my poor baby” and not everyone has experienced this. I can’t imagine how that must have been with everything crazy during this pandemic. I’m glad you got her to LAGPR and that she is getting the care she needs. Sending good vibes your way.

@@cindys.6446 You cut there nail every 3 ish weeks to a month, not 2 or 3 month's later that's disgraceful. You're responsibility is in a terrible condition! And amazon isn't a vet dispenser that will help you're pet. You get help from a vet not amazon!!!!!

My very first boy had an eye like that, he was put to sleep :( it's about 15-20 years ago, so I don't think they could have done much for him back then... all because my dad kept saying "he's just got something in his eye", and didn't want to take my baby to the vet -_-;;; good thing I decide when to go to the vet, now. Couldn't finish the video, it really hurt to see, so I hope Peppa gets so much better!

This poor little guinea pig needed you so bad saskia thank God you rescued him and he was brought to you this little guinea pig definitely needs you badly, I really think you are amazingand I have learned a lot from your videos the past couple weeks because I needed to do research I adopted a rescue guinea pig myself and he was in not the best of condition but he wasn't in horrible condition or abusedbut he is two years old never had a bath never had his nails trimmed never had his ears cleaned and was in a less than 4 sqft cage so I built him a very large 30 square foot 3 level guinea pig cage, I trimmed his nails, gave him a bath just like you showed on your video even held him the same way he was such a good boy I also cleaned his ears and even cleaned his pouch near his anus just like you showed on your video lol and he actually had some hay ,dirt and hair in his pouch.and the whole discrepancy between an anal gland or an anal pouch I kinda think the pouch should actually be kind of considered a weird belly button, that is kind of what it reminds me of when you open it up and clean it . I think that "belly button" would be a proper term for the pouch. Lol
