  • Intel's new Wi-Fi 6 kits are the latest offerings from the company allowing desktop PC users without built-in Wi-Fi in their systems a chance to get on board with the fastest speeds possible. The desktop wireless M.2 2230 kit can support a theoretical maximum of 2.4 Gpbs, roughly three times faster than traditional Wi-Fi 5 tech.

    I did an upgrade on my laptop from an intel 3165 (used in a lot of laptops) to an AX200NGW. It made my internet connection feel a tad snappier really. It also has a more recent Bluetooth spec which is 5.2, that is twice as fast as the 4.2 the 3165 has (or can transfer data between Bluetooth 5.2 devices much faster). If anything for me it is more future proofing than anything really. These are not expensive if you sit down and look for the prices on them. The are priced anywhere from $16 to $25. You may even get it cheaper on sale or from a site with good prices. I would personally never ever pay more than $25 for it since everyone has them cheap. The antenna connectors can be tricky if you don't have good eyesight or you have fat fingers. It takes dexterity and lots of patience to get them seated right. DO not pull the cable that goes into the connector, you will ruin it. That is a coaxial cable too BTW and would be difficult to properly reattach the connector to.

      No, a PCIe x1 slot version 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 supports 2, 4, 8 and 16 gbps respectively, and your motherboard and adapter are likely version 3.0 or higher. The adapter isn't going to add more latency than WiFi in general but you can ping your router to find out the latency. You'll likely find it to be 1ms or less.

    • @vatterger
      @vatterger 3 роки тому

      This shouldn't happen and it has nothing to do with the 802.11 versions that the AX200 supports, since it's fully backwards compatible. It could be your Router/Access Point or a bug in the driver of the AX200. I once had the issue that my Router was overheating because of insufficient airflow. It could also be the Routers settings but that's a big can of worms... You could also try forcing the AX200 to always use 5GHz/802.11ac from the Network-Control-Center -> Adapter-settings -> AX200 -> Properties -> Configure... This avoids protocol switches.

      It will work in a laptop if it has a M.2 Key E slot. Check your laptop. And you can use the laptop's own antennas in that case (unplugging them from the old card). Lastly note that Intel sells the wifi card separately for people like you who will use it in laptops and therefore don't need the antenna kit.
