Gotta love the fact the Capoeira fighter starts the fight with a smile on his face. So Brazilian.
Yeah, that's their mentality: laugh about everything and always a big mouth. I knew some guys from Brasil from online-playing and they all were suckers. I pretty much remember their big mouth before the soccer-game Brasil vs. Germany. And then we kicked their asses with 7:1 and they cried like babies and 50% left the stadium at half-time. If they can't win - and mostly they can't -, they start to laugh. Or very familiar in online-gaming: they start to cheat like Russians. Cheating and making fun of you, having a big mouth, that's brasilian mentality.
Van Damme quem dirigiu esse filme, e ele tem uma grande admiração pelo Brasil como já disse quando veio aqui em 1995 e 2001. E a produção do filme estendeu a bandeira brasileira... 🇧🇷💜

Because capoeira is a pacific sport, after all. Even with some kicks in the face sometimes...
The actor became friends with JCVD... He was supposed to be the main villain, but he was só charismatic that the director changed his plans after the fight had already been shot...

My Mestre, Cesar Di Alabama. He is a striking coach at MMA Masters in Miami. Oh and dont let all the pretty Hollywood acrobatics fool you. Hes old Salvador Bahia Capoeira, that teaches you how to street fight. Those boys dont play down there.
I used to train with Mestre Lazaro Santos in Orlando, FL. He comes from the Capoeira Topazio group under Mestre Dinho. He too is from Bahia.
Lol bet come to Thailand and fight with the Muay Thai boys bet they don’t play either
Lol except the BJJ or Muay Thai would kick his ass!
@@regularstan6212 For the record, this man does Muay Thai and boxing as well. Capoeira alone wouldn't qualify him to be an MMA striking coach. Plus, it's not uncommon for capoeiristas to know BJJ as well. Especially in Brazil.
That’s why it’s one of the foundations of mma?
this fighter gave life to eddy in tekken 3 and was an exquisite capture of movements because he is one of the most played characters in all the games of the franchise in which he appears.
He is most active character, but not many play him in tekken 7

The french fighter (supposed to represent Savate) was in "Batman & Robin", he was one of Mr Freeze's henchmen, you see him well in the scene where they sing at the hangout.
Good times.
Randall Flagg I thought savate was Brazilian too. Man I had it all wrong
@Arch Stanton Well the "Spanish" guy is actually Albanian lol
@Arch Stanton He's the guy who also played Attila in Lionheart, and his brother Mohammed Quissi (billed in movies as Michel Quissi) played Suan Paredes (the guy who got his leg broken by Chong Li) in Bloodsport. Funny enough, Mohammed Quissi also was Tong Po. So, both brothers portrayed an East Asian at one point despite being Moroccan!
@@lonewolf333 - Suan Paredes was a badass in Bloodsport (as a kid, Paredes vs Paco was my Bloodsport dream match!) but Michel Qissi is more famous for playing Tong Po in "Kickboxer" (also in the sequels, which I haven't seen).
I remember as a kid, how no one would believe me when I told them Tong Po and Suan Paredes were played by the same actor, and there was no internet to immediately prove one side wrong, so it used to drive me nuts ^^
@@randallflagg3700 Haha yeah it took me YEARS to realize that Michel Qissi was both Suan Paredes and Tong Po. I grew up watching these movies from the 80's to now, and I mean I probably didn't find this fact out until less than 10 years ago. They did such a good job on the makeup, in making him look Thai. I think that's why no one believed you.
Toop d+...esse capoeirista mostra o axé da capoeira...muito bom
During his fight against the Chinese I felt was underwhelming and a missed opportunity. Didn't mind him losing to the Chinese guy but that fight could have made it a choreography blessing. Still a good scene.

I wanted to believe that French fighter was using the honorable Savate, but I think this actor did not represent well!
@Pedro Sepulveda No, Savate doesn't include kneestrikes
@@Conan-Le-Cimmerien Modern COmpetition Savate doesn't include knee strikes but older combat forms did.
This is early 20th century Savate
Boxe Française had an evolution. It started off as a French sailors' game played on ships called Chausson (slipper), then it became a street ruffians fighting method called Savate (old shoe or boot) first systemized by a man named Michel Casseux. Early Savate started with kicks kept at or below waist level and the hand was used to slap; punching with a closed hand got one half a year in jail in those times. Chausson/Savate first started in the port city of Marseille, then made its way to Paris. Boxe Française came from Charles Lecour, with the addition of English Boxing.
The Savate guy was actually the guy fencing in the intro technically this man is a pugilist bare knuckles fighter.

0:28 the sound you make when you're about to Nut.
I found it weird that the french fighter gets a quick "profile" glimpse at the beginning of the movie, only to lose in the first round.
Did you forget that JCVD is french? It's a nod to his own heritage.
He was actually pretty impartial, considering the Brazilian is clearly the fastest and more agile fighter.
@@matatosky I refer to in terms of how the scene helps the story. For instance in bloodsport, the fighters at the beginning all make it far into the tournament. So by showing the french guy's skills at the beginning, they "build up" the character's abilities and it makes you think "oh he's good, i wonder who will win against him". Same way they introduce the big bad mongolian. Imagine if instead he gets knocked out and van damme fights the sumo at the end. So for him (the frenchman) to just go out quickly seems weird to me.
@@geddoe316 I get it, man but they if we're going by the "build up" in the beginning, the german fighter was also built up and lost to Van Damme in the first round.
There's no mathematics to why JCVD chose to highlight those first few fighters, he just did so as a way to add variety to the story, which is a project which SHOULD showcase the fighters themselves and combine it with a beautiful story, which is Van Damme's in the movie.
It was a nod to his ancestry. The Japanese fighter was shown because he needed to show an imposing figure for the tournament and imply the seriousness of it without revealing the Mongolian fighter before. German fighter was shown to accentuate the different background and that not only low class fighters like JCVD's character got a chance, but also premier, highly decorated fighters like a military man from Germany, who was well versed in different disciplines.
In the end, you had 16 great fighters in their own right but you couldn't develop all of them to fit an hour and half story before becoming too convoluted and disjointed.
High quality... very good!

The Brazilian was even more agile tho.
The point of that exchange was the French guy was supposed to counter but found the strength in that kick was almost unmovable.

Capoeira and Savate are actually cousins. Savate's origins are unknown, but it is said to be influenced by Asian, European and African martial arts. Like Capoeira, a typical Savate technique is using the hand as a base to kick from.
No Savate was a rip off of Capoeira and Shokan (Shokan is an Algerian Martial art very deadly one)
00:52 He expects him to give up with a simple trip when just got he's head caved in with that brutal kick which would have 100% resulted in KO in real life !? Well, that's movies logic for you lol

Ela é apresentada no filme "The Quest", estrelado por Jean-Claude Van Damme.
a angola tmb se acha fora do brasil hj e a capoeira moderna nao é como a regional de bimba que Nao tinha mortal e acrobacia tmb..isso veio depois
