The level of openness valve gave the steam deck is beautiful.
its incredible You can use it as literally a bigger version of something like a Switch, or if you want, treat it like it was a laptop with some controller buttons
Any company that offers Linux as an os is a king .
That is valve for you
Why I'll buy any Valve product.
One thing that's really interesting is that you could format your SD card and a storage partition on the SSD to btrfs. (ThePhawx has a video on this)
Then you could use the storage in both your SD card and the nvme drive on both steamOS and windows.
All we really need for a dual boot system to be amazing at that point is a "boot into windows" button in steamos, and a "boot into steamos" button in windows.
That is a pretty slick package and I really love the idea of having multiple OS installs available for the Steam Deck.
Love the extended fade-in from black to start the video.
Great video, ETA! Thanks for all the info!
Please please do a tutorial on installing windows on the dock as well as getting the M.2 to be seen in the Steam OS. I would love to see that.
Hello, finally a video from a trusted source. I received mine also and followed their instructions. Had no luck with it. Im using a Samsung 970 pro 2tb as the m.2 drive. The instructions on their website aren’t exactly easy to follow with written context to the photos. A video would have been better. Could you do a step by step as you installed all the drivers, I think your detailed easy to follow videos are the best and extremely helpful for those subscribers struggling with things. Once I had finally thought I had it set up I couldn’t un Mount it to remount. Don’t know what i might have done wrong.
This is really awesome... definitely gonna look for this for my steamdeck👌🏻💯
9:04 Glitch in the Matrix 😁
This is actually pretty nice. You carry your steam deck with yourself wherever you go so that you can play games. You come home dock it with another OS and now you have a proper workstation now.
Careful there. While I agree, I'm fearing you might anger some Linux aficionados about that "another OS" and "proper workstation" comment.
Having more then one os and sd and other options yes yes 👍 indeed a fantastic idea
That is literally what I do already, but my main drive has a windows and a steam os partition, I will definitely order this dock
@@oscaspunkja yes this is what I actually wanted to say. I know about tech compare to an average person but I still hesitate dual booting and creating partitions because sometimes things can get wrong and then you are stuck with a non working device. So it would be nice to install another OS be it windows or any other Linux distro on a completely different device and then use that drive to access that OS and this dock makes is a lot more praticable.
P.S. I don't own a steam deck because it's not available here in India and also I'm too broke to even it's available but still I love watching Steam Deck videos 😅
@@Castcoder haha you are probably right!
Such a cool idea for the docked setup
Nice dock 👍
Many kind thanks.
wow.... u always hardwork broo.... thanks for this..
I'm planning to eventually use this dock to run windows for a dev environment with multi monitors
I really like this idea I've been looking for something similar for my MacBook actually
What I think is most appealing of this is game swapping, especially if your steam deck is the version with the ssd. Game swapping through the sd card is still too slow for my liking, which I'd presume transferring data through the drives even though type c would be a lot faster, and also having access to much larger drives, which statistically you'll likely only play the games you want when you're on the go, and switch the games you want with the drive(s). I'd love to have a dock like this eventually.
They need to add DisplayPort, a third USB 3.1 port, and redesign the LAN port to face the "rear" of the unit - if that means making the dock a little longer (and consequentially sturdier), then that's even better
That edit around @5:57 is a little rough…I had to listen to it a few times to understand what you were saying with the button combo.
It was actually a decent edit - just the way my brain was picking up “3-dot-button” lol. Great tutorial though, ETA. Very helpful! 👏
Never thought of using this dock for a separate OS and now I've seen they've added the SteamOS UI to Windows I really think I'd get a lot out of this setup.
like this idea where I can have a dedicated one for Windows
Dawid Does Tech Stuff reviewed a laptop dock like this 2 months ago by Acasis. Seems neat and more useful as a Steamdeck dock
Great idea to run Windows on the deck with the dock. Sidenote, i noticed the intro missing and some minor editing mistakes in the video at 9:02. Other than that love the video!
I was missing the intro too
Have you tried using the m.2 to GPU adapter thing you use? I'm assuming it won't work but would love to know if you tried
Now I remember why I don't want to get on the channel, I'd buy everything haha.
What a great idea. More storage is all way good.
Turn as a console mode like this for Steam Deck is a thing for me due to having M.2 SSD slot, gonna have one soon.
If you don't see the drive in Game Mode. Make sure you install a game to the drive first in Desktop mode. For some reason it won't appear without having a game installed to it first.
Nah. That's not it. It's because it wasn't "mounted" in game mode. Like he mentioned, steam os game mode doesn't automatically mount the drive, thus why he had to install a script. Just a simple switch to desktop mode and to make sure the drive is mounted and you're good to go, even if you have games pre-installed.
I know this because my micro sd card is formatted as ntfs with games installed on it. Everytime i do a reset or shutdown the deck, i would have to go back into desktop mode to "mount" the sd card in order for it to show up in game mode again after powering it back on because it doesn't auto mount the drive. Can simply fix that by formatting to exfat4 but i like having my card to be able to be read by windows if needed.
@@cho9171 all good and well with your comment, only a small correction. There's no such thing as "exfat4", there is ext4 and exFAT though, exFAT being the improved version based on FAT32 that's flash memory friendly, comes from Microsoft and can be supported on Windows, macOS, Linux and even Android.
The other format is ext4 (extended version 4), which is a journaled Linux filesystem primarily, not well supported under other OSs, but very stable and recommended for main disks under Linux.
May be you already know this (it sounds like you do), but I just wanted to make it clear for other people who don't have our expertise and might get confused by your comment.
I hope JSAUX puts this on their Amazon store front.
I went into the bios to set ‘Add Boot Option’ to ‘First’ but my Steam Deck still boots into Steam OS on boot-up as opposed to my Windows 10 m.2 ssd in the jsaux dock. Anyone knows what might have gone wrong?
I dunno about getting an M.2 drive for the deck like this but, external storage like a good micro SD card or whatever could be more cost effective considering the speed limits with the deck.
I've seen other reviewers say they don't get the point of external storage with the Deck; I thought it was pretty plain? Like, you put your games that are better on Mouse/KB or just a big display, dock your deck, now you can play them easily without eating up storage that you'd use for portable games.
It's a nice idea.
The issue I've heard with this dock & the one lacking the SSD storage is it doesn't play well with capture cards unlike other docks
Hello, may ask kindly how good is the dual booting on the steam deck with windows?. Regards.
At 9:03 "A glitch in the Matrix" - And with these, and these kind of speeds, and with these, with these kind of speeds. ROFL - I feel like I'm watching Max Headroom.
I assume no, but would it sit in the dock with a Kiillswitch case if you use an USB extender to get the cable to fit?
@ETA PRIME Do you think it is possible to attach an external GPU through the M.2 slot in this JSAUX USB C hub. So my steam deck will remain portable but when I want to play a powerful game I can dock it into the hub??
Hey ETA ~! love your videos, I think you have a editing error at 9:03
Thanks for the heads up, fixing now.
@@ETAPRIME Hi, I 'd like to send you our UPTOHIGH Brand Steam Deck Dock to try. I send you email but no reply.
@@ETAPRIME Really like your video. And it would be great honor for us if you can test our steam deck dock.
Does Quest Link cable, or similar VR setup, work with a dock like this? I’d be curious about wallclock time to completion for real I/O workloads like compiling Linux kernel (in Linux), or compiling Unreal in Visual Studio , or even game restart after death/level load times.
I wonder if you could use the m.2 slot on the dock to add a egpu vs opening your steamdeck up to do it.
should it be posible to dualboot from the m2 without the intern m2 in steamdeck?
Will this work with nvme installed and not connected to power? Or needs to be always connected to power? Because if it does, means the Steam deck/Rog Ally will continously charging(even full charged) while using the dock. Which may cause battery life depletion over time.
How about a video on running extra storage via a portable usb hub?
Windows Dev Kit 2023 - would be cool to see you review that. Jeff Geerling just took a look, but obviously his areas of interest are a bit different than yours.
also, I know it is niche but, since I am waiting for the RDNA 3 handhelds, I would like to see docks with multi monitor support. I would love to game on my trip to work (a shared office space) and when I get there plug in the deck and boom Im working.
Did you use windows to go or standard installation?
Hey ETA prime how did you install windows on your external ssd for the jsaux m.2
How did you get the black bezel that normal on the sides of the monitor when you are running windows 11 to make it full screen of monitor?
That would be great for laptop users as well.
Have you tried this dock with the AYANEO 2? I was wondering if it would work with it as well.
Can you connect an external GPU using the dock? Like your other videos connecting egpu via m.2 slot
I've been using mine
And it's been great.
JSAUX keep making great things for the Steam Deck
Hi love the vido.
I am curious how did you install the windows no the dock?
I am looking to buy one and i am not sure what would be the simplest way of installing it.
Does it cope well with the kill switch case on?
I think by Christmas or early next year the official steam dock firmware updates will start to come into their own / vrr and other updates plus more we're unaware of
now just a magic anyget two of these one dedicated for steam os dedicated for Windows
are these docks compatible with neo2 for charging, tv display and data transfer?
thickness of the deck like neo2?
Sadly they didn't have that particular dock available but when I ordered mine from them.
Will this dock work with the newer handhelds like aya neo 2, aokzoe a1, or onexplayer mini pro?
What monitor are you using?
Can you load steam games from a Micro SD via Steam OS, while running Windows on a M.2 SSD?
how do the speeds compare to an nvme internal? and i would recommend installing an sn530 2230 nvme1tb internal.
I've done this and boots well. Only issue is I get a "windows created a temporary page file" notification each time I boot into windows.
Will passthrough power from 90% battery or above still work if use this dock + nvme ssd attached? I want play windows game from ssd on docked mode + passthrough power is on, so I will not ruin steam deck's battery life.
Maybe point out that this would work for any device with a USB-C, & mattering on the bios if you could boot from a external device. I bought the one from your last video for my samsung to use in DeX. I haven't had time to test the docks video out yet.
nice dock, I went ahead and got the official one, and I have my 1TB external plugged into one of the ports, wonder if that script for auto mounting will work for me as well
I ordered one too the moment it was released but it got held up in port processing and JSAUX eventually just refunded me my money :( I hope these get listed on Amazon at some point
How did he get windows installed on the ssd, I keep getting this GPT disk error.
The editing in this video is all over the place 😂
Will the dock work with the Aya Neo 2 also?
Is buying a third or 4th generation ssd overkill for this steam dock? Should I just buy generation 2 ssd?
How did you download windows on your ssd card?
A note from the link you provided states "Note: For Steam Deck use only". Can you confirm that I CANNOT use this with AKOZOE AL1 like you did for the Steam Deck? This seems like a weird constriction for a USB device that YOU got to work on Win11& Steam Deck OS. Also I would like to use this with Batocera as well - I have mail ordered my AKOZOE AL1 already and would like to know B4 I can order this dock. Don't want to waist time &/or Money on this since I DON'T own a Steam Deck. Thanks in advance!
Yo....I wonder if you could pop that ssd out of the dock and plug in an egpu to the dock in the m2 slot.
I have to say I've been leaning more and more on getting a 3rd party dock instead of the official one. I want it not only for my steam deck but for my iPad as well.
I agree since most third parties are cheaper or offer more features. The only benifit for the official dock seems to be getting updates for the dock
@@zora_tech jsaux does updates on their docks but you need to hook up to pc to update
@@cyfailma4 That’s even better
@@zora_tech don't forget it comes with a power adapter
@@brandon_nope mine didn’t
Weird. I can't find the extra drive (in the dock) when I boot up my steamdeck
Does it support FreeSync technology like the original station?
What else can the m.2 slot do for the steam deck?
if they combine this with their updated dock that has display port and a 3rd USB then it'd be perf
And redesign the LAN port, to face the "rear" of the unit - if that means making the dock a little longer (and consequentially sturdier), then that's even better
What resolution does it output to the external display?
One question. Doe it overheat?
itd be cool if you could automatically back up your whole steam deck on that ssd while its charging.
Will an external gpu woek with this?
You are the best
W-w-wheres the robot intro? :(
How do xou install Windows with just the steam deck ?
what case or sehll is this?
Video is still beginning by, please, please, please, please, tell us you're trying to hook in an external GPU into that! 🤩
Mate, try to run egpu through this M.2 connector :)
I think the JSAUX oozes of quality
Do you guys think this dock would work on an android tablet? (Like Galaxy Tab S8+)
Is the HB0604 compatible with the Asus ROG Ally?
I woul like to see the dock on the new Aya device.
All right, Mr. ETA prime I have a question for you. Is the $400 steam deck the only one that comes with one of those EMMc sort of cut in half SSDs. Or do the other steam decks not come an ssd thats like the ones in laptops.
I only ask because i wanna know the price differences and the preformace differences between a laptop one(i’d consider it full sized) and the small emmc that comes with the cheapest version
Now that I got that out of the way, my real question is, is there a performance difference between both kinds of SSDs and if there’s not is it just a matter of how much space a large SSD takes up so instead of the use a smaller one but it’s pretty much just the same thing?
Can I use it for Android Smartphones for exemple ?
is it support for rog ally?
this is the best oh yeah!
They taken notes from odin dock
I was gonna get this for my steam deck but with everything I would've spent almost 1k for the 650 model so I sent it in and I'm getting the minisforum Venus 6900 🤣
Does it work with Aya NEO 2?
Sad that this thing is expensive. Needs more powerful PSU PD 3.0 65w instead of original 45W which was delivered with Deck. This is nice thing to have. For me usage usage would be like on the go SteamOS from internal storage and on docking station with external display etc. with M.2 that has installed Windows 10.
can it run an external gpu?
Will this work with an android phone?
This deck funtion in switch?
