      Do you know why my Pos steam deck doesn't turn on when I press the power button?
      The power light blinked a few seconds then nothing.
      It's fully charged as well.
      Annoying issue I was hoping to fix.
      Can you help me please?
      Thank you so much 🙏

    Awesome stuff, it's funny how you can be so much better on the software and I'm so comfortable with the hardware upgrade. i just bought the 64gb model on sale and ordered a 1tb drive for it. I calculated I'm going to save $220 over buying the 512 GB model and have twice the storage.
    Thanks for sharing your experience!

    I saw several videos, but yours is the only one that shows all the steps, the bios that only shows the boot pendrive, the delay and slowness, the mouse arrow that is inverted and more delay... and in the end that's it and that's all it worked out.
    My deepest thanks from here in Brazil. Now mine is also 1tb. 💟

    Grounding yourself means you have the same grounding as the equipment you work with. Static electricity discharge happens because you have a different electric potential than the thing you touch. If you don't have a anti-static workplace and mat. Then you should attach the grounding wire to metal of the device you are working on. This way you have the same potential as the device you work on.

      won't it give you a shock when you connect the grounding wire to the device?

      but if you get charged with static electricty because of wearing socks wouldnt it increase the damage done to the device if you ground it since it would pass through the device instead of only jumping to it?

    • @eldaria
      @eldaria Рік тому

      @@bruh7237 Grounding means you have the same grounding as whatever you are working on. It is the difference that can generate a static discharge. If you are grounded to the device then any buildup of charge will happen to both you and the device. So there won't be any difference that can cause a discharge. You could still get shocked by touching something else that is not grounded to the same potential.

    Got to be really careful with those screws! They have a bit of blue threadlock on them, and the metal is made out of butter or something equally soft. I had one nearly strip out on me. Used a flat driver and a bit of rubber band to get enough grip, very scary moment but got it out.
    The upgrade is a piece of cake other than that!

    • @The8bitbeard
      @The8bitbeard Рік тому +3

      Did that when upgrading my 1st Steam Deck with the Microcenter 1TB drive. Stripped one of the screws a bit, but got it out. Wife claimed that Deck, and I just upgraded my replacement with the Sabrent drive. That went better. It's sensitive to the specific size of the driver you're using. The #0 Ifixit Phillips driver was just perfect.

    I recommend not putting the back screws in until you test the power on procedure. In my case, I just got a black screen on power up, no matter what I did; so I had to repeat this entire installation process. I'm not sure what went wrong - maybe the HDD shielding was not positioned correctly - but not having to unscrew the back again saved me a lot of time.

    I have just done the very same upgrade this weekend and it's very simple to do. I got the same SSD from Scan computers in the UK but I think they are on backorder again now. I would also highly recommend upgrading the thermal paste to some stuff called PTM7950 by Honeywell, it's reduced my overall temps by about 8°c and it's designed to last for years with no "pump out effect" which is commonly found with thermal pastes.

    Pro tip on popping the back cover off. Use a the flat end of a thin "pencil" spudger to pry at the bottom of the triggers to get the case started.
    Any sort of tool marks at the seams will be noticeable.
    Putting the tool in at the bottom of the triggers lets you pry against the inside of the case where no marks will show, and the trigger itself is much stronger than the thin edge of the shell.
    Also using a long pry tool lets you more precisely use force due to the torque multiplication of a lever.
    Glad to see these professional videos

    The Kingston flash drive looked like an older USB 2.0 drive? If so, it explains why it took so long to write the image and to boot. The older Kinston Data Traveler is/was a relatively slow drive but fantastically reliable. I use them for bootable PE environments. Booting is always slow but I've had nothing but good results with them. I bought about a dozen 16GB and about as many 32GB versions on an Amazon clearance. Got them super cheap. They also make good "loaner" drives for those co-workers or friends that need to take data home but, never have a flash drive with them. At the price I paid, I don't bother to remind them to return it 😉
    I bought a 512GB Steam deck as soon as they were taking orders. Ended up giving it to my grandson still new in the box. I justified it with his mom by telling her it is a learning tool. Turns out, it really is a learning tool and a good one at that.

    you don't need to open up the shielding around the ssd like that, it just slides off.
    also it's a shame you didn't show in the video how you can clone the contents from the ssd to the new ssd so you don't have to start from scratch, you can do this by connecting the new ssd via usb to the steam deck and running a command like this:
    sudo dd if=/dev/nvme0n1 of=/dev/sda oflag=sync bs=128M status=progress
    still this is a great video 🙂

It boot just like you with the screen in the wrong position and in the right one lil' bit later, but it is locked on this screen. did this take very long or there is a solution for that ?

    • @gardiner_bryant
      @gardiner_bryant  Рік тому

      It took almost 50 minutes to boot because I was running a USB 2.0 drive and didn't realize it. If it never gets to the desktop, try rebooting and trying again. If it still doesn't work, use balenaEtcher to create a new SteamOS drive and try again.
      If it STILL doesn't work, try re-downloading the SteamOS image and trying again with balenaEtcher.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. I upgraded to 1TB sabrent Rock SSd and it had no difficulties. I am curious if you or anyone else has noticed an overall slowing down of the steam OS, booting after doing so. I started having issues that seemed to be system wide. Yuzu and cemu emulation started not working. Booting up seemed slower. Running steam games seemed to start having issues that were never present before. I just decided to reimage the deck to try and solve the issue, but I was wondering if the new drive could be a variable or root cause of the problem.

    ok after watching this from start to finish I must say I think I can do this too. Also, the title made me think that something fried on your steam deck after aptly naming it "SHOCKINGLY" and multiple warnings in the video of "I must ground myself now". I am glad everything turned out ok. Question can Steam Deck accept a 2TB NVME SSD Drive?

    • @t3arki113r
      @t3arki113r Рік тому +1

      Yes it can, I just installed mine yesterday and it works like a charm. But just be sure to do a lot of research before hand to see which 2TBs can work with it. I used the 2TB version of the one he used in this video.
      And I’m scared to open electronics, but I did mine easily, super user friendly.

    • @gardiner_bryant
      @gardiner_bryant  Рік тому

      If you leave the battery plugged in there are several points on the motherboard where you could cause a short with a dropped driver, wayward screw, or any number of other items and it could completely fry your Deck. It could also start a fire and release toxic fumes.
      DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY BEFORE YOU WORK ON YOUR DECK.
