Will These Vintage Locomotives from the Mail Run? Testing Locomotives
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- A few days ago I received several boxes containing many different ho scale locomotives and today I was finally able to test them to see what works. It was a bit of a mix but there are many locomotives that will be great projects for the future. I can't wait to get working on them.
I want to Thank,
Montreal Train Channel,
Fish and Other Stuff and finally
Super 8 and 8 mm Home Movies
for sending all these engines.
First of all, thanks to those of you as mentioned in the video for sending items to SMT Mainline. Your set for restoration projects thru January 2021, no doubt, Harrison. Between the Hershey Factory, the repair cart, these project locomotives and the speeder, you've got your work cut out for you. 🤔 Then throw in vacation time, socialization time with friends, and just plain Harrison time, that leaves you with about 5 minutes of spare time.😁
Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

Don't forget adding time for the ladies!!!! :)
Hi

We should not only thank the train donor for the trains, but also at least 4 hours of new SMT content
I can't wait to get restoring them. I suspect your right, it could be hours of new videos.
This reminds me of the sorting hat. “You will go on the..... Shelf of Repair!”
You inspired me to start my own HO scale model layout
Awesome video! The variety of these is crazy.
I love all your train videos anytime
That Rivarossi six-axle is a General Electric U25C, GE's first six-axle production diesel. These were rare models on the prototype, I believe only 130 or so were produced.
9:02 Wow! Blast from the past. I remember running that Tyco Durango engine sometime around 1980 with Gary Numan's hit "CARS" coming over the radio.
I like your New Haven "projects". I enjoy finding projects at train shows and on consignment at hobby shops. It's fun to get them running again.
I love the old Athearn blue box stuff!!!!
Hey Harrison! Hope you are doing well! My grandfather has that exact TYCO Chattanooga with a similar problem of it not running, so I fixed it up for him with a new motor! Hope you have fun fixing/tuning those locos up! Great video as always!
I modeled in N-scale back in the 80s/early 90s and one local hobby store had a box full of those old, noisy, metal-geared Bachmanns. They ran well with good crawling characteristics when using Pulse Injection on a Tech ll power pack. And, they were cheap.
I believe that Erie Lackawanna is a GP50. Bachmann made all of their GP 50 in the Norfolk Southern configuration
11:05 I think that front piece was used to fit over a modified NYC Hudson shell tooling
I’m super jealous of your millwalke road class a
You gotta love that blue goose!
I remember getting that orange and yellow tyco loco for Christmas when I was 5 years old in 1977. It came in a set.
I like these types of videos
That one unreliable tyco 5628 diesel is what I have and it runs very well, but it strains, and it was the first in my collection! I never knew the sucked
I don't remember who made it, but in 1960, I got a layout with scenery, etc for Xmas. It came with 3 locos, A NH F unit, a GN GP9, both Athearn rubber band drive, and a metal shell switcher, an NYC Alco switcher model of some kind, with a very poor divetrain, so bad it made the Athearns look good. I added a lot of bad locos over the years, and then switched to N scale, with the very nice Minitrix Aurora SF Warbonnets. .More of the same, good, bad, and some great locos. When I got back into train modeling in HO, I was pleased at how far the drivetrains had come, even on some pretty cheap models. I went on Ebay and bought a half dozen old brass diesels made in the 60's and was amazed, they ALL ran. None of them had a great drivetrain, but one was the worst. It was the exact same drivetrain as the zinc bodied NYC Alco unit under a nice looking unpainted brass RS-1! It barely ran and was touchy about any sort of bad rail joint, just like the older one was. I ended up painting it black and added some PC/CR decals to it and made it a dummy that looked good and without the drivetrain issues, it was a great trailing unit. One of my nightmare N scale locos was a Lima made Baldwin Sharknose that ran at about 500 scale MPH, and jerked very badly at low speed. It was one truck powered and looked really great, but wow, was it pitiful. Nothing I've bought except for that RS-1 is close to being as bad as that old Shark was.
Looks like you have a lot of fun projects.
That was very entertaining, a very unique collection of locomotives. Good luck working on them!
the el unit is a gp50 i had a small fleet all retired & junked & the santa fe unit is a tyco f9
HAH! A funny thing happened when that first Silver and Red Santa Fe's motor started that High pitched "Whine"...
I instantly got that old smell of "Burning Motor Oil" in my nose! Remembrances from when I was a kid!
I still have ALL of my Old HO Trains... but I haven't run them in a VERY Long time!
You got all those trains 🚂 and locomotives in the mail!! 😲😦that’s so cool 😎 👍😉😀
Gijvs.n nnjogh,
Great video, I get excited when I have trains to fix also. The Southern looks like the same as the Tyco Royal Blue and Chattanooga. Looking forward to seeing them run.
Nice video! Also cool layout I enjoyed the video☺
Tyco ICG and Chessie locomotives are Alco C430. Tyco Chattanooga is a GP20, as is the identical Santa Fe with the gear issue. The Durango GP20 needs lube and a pivot gear. Easy fix.
My favs are the Illinois Central Gulf and the New Haven. Also like the Rivarossi Steamy
you find some amazing train pieces, i see a santa fe war bonnet f unit like one of mine in that batch!
6:42 that there is a GE U25C I believe. Great Video! Lot’s of cool engines
It’s a shame so many of them don’t work. However I’m happy to see that you’re going to be fixing them!
I have four of the locomotives from this video haha. I have the Green Southern in Mint Condition. I had to replace the drive wheels in the tender and it takes a second to get moving but once it does it runs very well!!!!
I want a Rivarossi "Blue Goose" in the WORST WAY! I have most of Rivarossi's Stream Line Steam Locomotives.
But I STILL need a "Blue Goose" :D
the santa fe unit is made by ahm it's a u25c i got a small fleet of them & they still run great
i had a santa fe train gp38-2 but i used it for a runaway train the train number was: 3500
Good luck restoring the blue goose, that'l be a fun video
My brain keeps saying “It’s not going to work, it’s not going to work” and it predicted most of it. Also, I was think if the blue goose would run, oof. Cool lot, I like that Blue Goose and the GTW sd40-2
That first f7 is definitely a tyco. I have one of those with similar truck problems.
Tyco stuff makes good targets at the gun range.
Many of these HO scale diesels were manufactured in the early 1980s era. They ran too fast, were powered by one truck w/ traction tires, and perhaps their plastic shells & handrails made them interesting. I am grateful that Bachmann, Life-Like, Mantua and Model Power made the transition from manufacturing Toy Trains to Model Trains. Atlas/Kato and Athearn manufactured Diesels were the benchmarks then and now. Thankfully this had occurred because many individuals like myself would have abandoned the Hobby. Yes, I actually repaired many of these dinosaurs for local Hobby shops. Not all were fixable.
You're going to have a lot of fun working on the railroad, AREN'T YOU!!!
I love these types of videos, I was waiting for this one specifically for the Blue goose and the GG1. Very cool SMT!
Aero disfunction hey mr.conrail Roblox conductor
FOR FREE?!?! 😲 that’s so cool 😀
The moment we've been waiting for
The #779 berk is supposed to have a Nickle Plate Road tender (not NYC), and the real locomotive resides in at Lincoln park in Lima, OH. Also, the New Haven loco is a Tyco E7 which are somewhat uncommon.
I really like the santa fe bluegoose one of my favorite streamlined steam locomotives
that gt at the start looks awesome
I've got the Illinois orange one
I love trains. I wish that you could do a review the broken ones. I wish I could have them..
This is very cool cant weigh to see that blue goose run.
D
I have that super cheif locomotive! I think it's made by lima (mine is). my dad gave it to me for my birthday after digging it up in my granparent's garage. There are some problems with the motor though, so i might just get a new chassis for it.
I might be able to send you a bunch of older locomotives you might be interested in. Great Video!
Harrison...have you thought about adding a rerailer section to that front straightaway on your layout? I know, it would not help with the aesthetics, but for setting up those locos it would make things easier.
icg unit is called a c430 made by tyco
Hey SMT! Save some locomotives for us!
I'm sorry if I haven't seen you since you began your youtube channel but this video was my first time watching your videos I hope you make more good content like this vid
I like your train toys
The Blue Goose was the only streamlined steam engine in Santa Fe.
SMT You're the best youtuber ever I like your model trains I feel like I have a model train but like it doesn't work I'm not a locomotive it's old and it ain't work Bye
The sd40-2 was my favorite.
I can't wait to see The amtrak GG1 working
I love your videos
I can’t wait to see he blue goose
Me too hopefully we can see it pull a Santa Fe Passenger train
Those St Fe are tough the one gotta watch out the ones the gear will slide off the shaft watch out for those .
9:15, a mouse screaming
D Kendrick LOL
The mouses gostly howl
What channel does ur pfp come from?
I've just found your videos and I think they are fantastic. I'm kind of old 64 just wondering how much would one of those locomotives cost.
I like the new Haven locos, good vid
"2 Stroke dirt bike noise" -SMT Mainline
I was thinking a haul that big that most would not run. Got a lot of repair videos I look forward to seeing. Lol
Still a great haul regardless!
Last time I was this early, corona was just a drink!
Oof
Ooooooffff
wow ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooof
YES CORONA IS A VIRUS AND BEER
Oof
That tender on the Berk is from a 5096 5405 Hudson
Wesley Mattes said I should check out your channel and I'm glad I did, that's a pretty good lot of locomotives you got there! One of the great things about the Athearn blue box locomotives is that the parts are still regularly available not to mention that they are pretty reliable too! I have a blue box SD9 in Burlington Northern colors and it's been pretty much bulletproof! Subscribed after seeing this!
Thanks for checking it out. I tend to agree that Athearn blue boxes are pretty reliable, I don't know if there is any other kind you can buy cheap used and still trust they won't break down anytime soon.
@@SMTMainline yeah I know what you mean! Although I pick up a Bachmann Santa Fe FT at a yard sale several years ago for 50 cents (all wheel drive too) and it has shown to be pretty reliable which is pretty amazing considering the thing is far from mint condition!
Actually that Santa Fe engine is a U28CG Built by General Electric
The Riverossi Santa Fe is a GE -U25C
Wow that looks fun
The riverossi santa fe is a U28CG
Rivarossi's loco he received is actually a U25C but they painted that one in Santa Fe warbonnet colors to emulate the U28CG passenger units, which had a slightly different carbody style
Need to put a rerailer where you are setting them down!
I own that little Santa Fe tank engine.
When I was like five I used to think Santa Fe was Santa’s Christmas present train
Lol 😂
You need to start sliding the trains on to the railroad crossing that's how I get my Bachmann on the track
Hey smt tomorrow I'm going to order a centennial I'm really excited
That Berkshire is a Nickel Plate Road locomotive. The tender provided is the to another engine. I have to say it because I model the NKP.
I like your video
13:50 thats the smokebox. The green round bit is the boiler. The cab is at the back. It has a red roof.
that santa fe warbonnet with the loose truck is a bachmann
i dont even have to watch to know its great
AWWW LOOK AT THE LITTLE BABY LOCOS
you can convert that f7 unit, 12:35, from the bachmann chassis to a Athearn F7 Chassis.
Let’s get it done! 😁
My favourite is probably the GT locomotive
Sad that the Goose doesn’t run. If you were closer I’d say bring it over and I’ll revive it for you lol. Good luck with it, hopefully you can bring it back to life.
SMT I’m enjoying the content!
The one that you just put in the not working pile looks like a really long f9
that's a serious roster
Thank you
The Erie Lacawanna locomotive is actually a GP40 high hood.
Edit: The ICG is a C-420 or C-424 if I'm not mistaken.
NW has the only High Hood GP40 in its fleet
the locomotive i like the most is the Athearn blue box sd40-2
That second engine the steam engine I have the same one but it doesn't run. I have the Nickel Plate Road tender for it.
Im pretty sure the Erie Lackawanna locomotive is a SD40-2 high hood
SMT I finally have some New Haven locos to bother you on stream to run.
Haha, I only had one before and now there are three of the little devils.
I think the Erie Lackawanna is a GP9 high nose. (I might be wrong)
