That flashing light on the UP was standard safety equipment back in the 1970s. In the 90+ era, once they started operating remote control yard locomotives, they reimplemented that flashing light. But the regular locomotives in the 70s, all had those strobe lights for crossing safety, except SP that had the gyralights.
Nice to see some more models saved from the dumpster! I’ve saved far too many myself, it’s surprising what some people decide to throw out, especially at train clubs.
Thats crazy that these were just tossed in a dumpster, they're worth their weight in gold as parts! Also, and I think I mentioned this before, but Athearn Ready to Roll geared axles and replacement gears will work in Blue Box and most Proto locomotives (the only exception I've found with the latter is the Proto 1000 Erie Built locomotives, which use gears that are off center and thus Athearn and even other Life-Like/Walthers parts will not work in them).
I can't believe theses trains 🚂 🚂 we're in the dumpster and you got them running again !! 😊😊❤❤ !! I love it how you open up these boxes that you get from people and they have trains and cool stuff in them!! 😍😍😍👍👍👍! Great awesome video, Harrison! Wow , look at all the candy 🍭🍬🍬🍭 ! It's the candy train express ❤❤😍😍👍👍☺️☺️😉! Keep up the great work, Harrison 👍 👍 🇨🇦 👍 👍 😊 😉😉!!
Years ago, a man no one had seen before bought a table at our Club's yearly train show and open house. He brought in two-to-three large boxes of trains--mostly, HO, some N. For the most part, quality stuff--Athearn, Proto 2000, Stewart, Bowser, Atlas-Kato, Micro-Trains. Many of the train or kit boxes had old price stickers; the dealer's opening ask was half of that price, which, time of our show, was out of date by a few years. In other words, EXCELLENT prices. He sold out, cleared his table during our show, and, deducting the cost of the table, made about $500.00. Story was, he was out walking his dog, the night before trash pickup day. His dog went to do as dogs will on the side of a trash can, which had no lid. The trash can was full of model trains, in their original boxes. He went home, got his car, came back to that can, looked both ways, then loaded up the trains. He was not a modeler, but he'd seen flyers for our Club's show. The can next to the first one had a few more trains. He figured someone had died, and his survivors had to clear out the house, to sell it. Our one-time dealer (never saw him, or his prices, again) was quite pleased, and said the first thing he would do with his profits was buy his dog the biggest steak he could find. So, you gotta love candy, cat treats, and trains, from the trash! And, the next time someone talks about "garbage trains"--say: HELL, YEAH!!" The price is DEFINITELY right.

SMT, that Mantua Tyco Burlington Northern F-unit is quite rare - it was only made for 1 year - 1970 - the year BN was formed! RP Model Railroads on UA-cam has a video on it.
The Fleischmann one is obviously repainted. To sort out the noise issue with it, don't forget to re magnetize the motor magnet, as that helps with centering

Varney made F units for Gilbert, along with some rolling stock. That Erie Lackawanna unit is essentially just a Varney unit with a Gilbert HO plate attached to the rear truck.
Looks like Halloween came early this year. I cannot believe the locos came out of a dumpster. I'm sure they will be up and running. This one was an unusual unboxing but still pretty cool. From Texas.
Happy to see you post again. Question. Please let me know how do you build like the mountains on your layout and what’s the grass stuff called on your layout If you ever wanna get rid of something HO scale related I’ll be more then happy to receive it and put it towards my new and in progress layout😁
Not Harrison but built more than a few layouts in my 62 years. That pink or blue extruded foamboard insulation always works for me. Pretty much stack it up randomly cut sizes larger on bottom smaller to the top then kind of smooth the layers by carving it smoother. I was fond of drywall mud as a coverage material for the foam board terraces. The grass/ landscape is put out by different companies but most used is Woodland Scenics has various dirts, turf etc
Also with that foam you can use a heat gun ( much hotter than hair dryer) to melt ditches and other natural fluctuations of the terrain. You can also use a cigarette lighter, but have to be very careful not to ignite it!
I usually glue strips of cardboard into the shape of the mountain and then cover it in paper soaked in watered down glue. All that has to be done after is to add paint and grass
Harrison I think you had some great help for unboxing, I guess you are bringing the candy to Smith Falls this year if we make it , great additions to your collection

I think Smarties are the same in Canada. I haven't heard of dreamies before but I wouldn't be surprised if was an identical product under a different name

4:10 That locomotive is actually made by Stewart which didn't have the gear split issues like Proto had. Bowser took over the Stewart product line and may still have parts available if you need them to fix the engine. When SMT turned it over, the blue & white Fleischmann Baldwin switcher body shell looked like it had a molded insert for a screw inside, at the top. I wonder if that is for a screw that holds a weight?
I think you're right. Also does this locomotive appear custom painted to you? I thought it looked like a factory paint job but others have said they never made one in this colour scheme before.
@@SMTMainline - My guess is the color scheme was created by a modeler for a free-lanced railway. Then again, since it is a switcher, it might be the actual color scheme of an industrial short line - like a coal-fired power plant or a manufacturing plant.
