Matt Just wanted an opportunity to say thank you for your offer of help. You passed me around the 40mile mark (I think) I was already in trouble and on one leg, you offered to stop and help at a risk to your own progress. I made it to 130 on Sunday when it became untenable, but thank you again for your kind gesture. Kind regards George (see you next year)
@georgeb.311 Hi George, I'd never leave anyone if they needed help. Would've gladly stayed with you, if you needed assistance. I'm glad you got to the aid station ok and it's incredible you carried on till mile 130! I'm sure you'll smash it next year and hope to see you at the start line again!
Thanks Ross, much appreciated mate. May I add, you started it! Watching your video from 2022 really inspired me to do it the following year... yes, had a few days off work and feet are getting better thankfully!
Superb effort Matt. We met in CP10 Galashiels where I had the pleasure of leading the Checkpoint. You need to get the skin on the bottom of your feet softened up - skin like a rhino!! Well done on another RAS buckle and for simply tabbing your way to the finish line when obviously in a lot of discomfort.
Hi and thank you for all your help at the checkpoint! Funny you should mention that! I was going to have a proper pedicure session, pumice stone, moisturiser, the lot, a few days before the event but was quite busy and had to skip it. You're absolutely right though, it was one of the issues! Thanks again 👍
@georgelopata5007 ah yes!!! I remember seeing your name on the finishers list! Well done mate, cracking effort 👌 There are some incredible finish times from the top competitors but even to finish it is a massive achievement. Huge well done, 91hrs is a very good, comfortable finish!
@SewerDroid thank you, glad you enjoyed it! You finished just ahead of me and we chatted in the changing room afterwards! Well done on completing the RAS at first attempt and with a gold buckle. Fantastic achievement 👏
Another one down... I stopped overthinking these things and run and rest purely by how I feel... this was my A race for this year and with the distance covered, I'll need to rest a bit longer. Once I feel like I'm OK to start running again, it'll be gently back on it for a week or two, then back to my usual, around 60 mile weeks. No rush though...
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I used the gpx provided by the organisers and had it running on my Garmin Fenix 6XPRO Solar. I do know most of the route but still referred to my watch a lot, especially at night. I recharged my watch half way through the course whilst taking a rest (battery charger pack with my support crew). No issues with navigation whatsoever, did not have to refer to a map. Some sections are quite overgrown and the trail just disappears, and it's hard to see the marker posts, which makes it more difficult at night, as I said. Vast majority of the trail is well marked and clear to follow. Hope that helps.
Great run again Matt! was so much fun watching your dot and seeing how you were doing until it stopped moving and I was worried for a little while. After having a DNF on the GB Ultra Scotland 100 myself, I have bounced back a got a 100miler under my belt, couple more and I may be ready for a 2025 RAS attempt :=) What shoes did you use, were they all Speedgoats?
Hi Martin, thank you so much and well done on completing your first 100 miler! It's very personal and only you will know when you're ready but I had only completed 1 x 100 miler before attempting the RAS last year. I ran with a few people last and this year, who had never done a 100 prior to the race. Consistency or your training and your weekly volume with back to back long runs is key. Get your legs used to long miles and the rest is in your head... I might see you on the start line then! Thanks again!
@martinscofield7477 hi Martin, thank you - glad you liked it. Totally achievable without crew, between the aid stations and drop bags you'll have sufficient nutrition and kit to complete the Race. I did it unsupported last year. The only reason I opted for a crew this year was specific dietary requirements due to my digestive system issues. The aid stations have more than enough food, including hot food and drink to get you going. I could not recommend this race enough!

I'm not surprised the cows seemed impressed with your efforts. They know a running legend when they see one! 💪😁🏃♂️ Well done, Matt. Great video.
I do love the cows! Thank you so much. Far from a legend, but if the cows are impressed, I'm happy! 😂
Superb mate. Another great account of this most epic event. Hope your feet are resting well. I could feel your pain those last 50-60 miles 💪💪

Wow! You are at it again! Would you tell us, please, how you balance recovery and training between ultras?

Oh, and yes, I had 4 pairs of Speedgoat 5s and tonne of socks!
Nice video! I am thinking of going over to Scotland to do this next year. How difficult is it to do without a crew, do you think?
