Thanks Mark! It was tough, the temperature and humidity together were brutal (I keep using the word but it really was brutal)... 60% DNF paints a good picture I think... yes, thanks, all going good - legs are ok but feet still a bit sore and blistered. Couple more days needed I think... 👍😁👍
Fantastic Matt, loved the video and great to see you complete. Felt your pain on the video at around 80 miles but superb pushing through and showing you can get through the crappy times. Nice to put a video to the dot watching. 👏 Terry Mc
Hi Terry, hope you're OK! Thank you so much. It still feels surreal. A 100 miler really is an emotional rollercoaster, it was bizzare to experience the extreme peaks and troughs. I'm really chuffed and can't wait for the next one. Recovery first as my feet are still in a s%^& state! 🤣 Cheers buddy!
I do like these longer vid's, found your channel after looking at entering this event for 2024, I've watched most of your content this week, looking forward to some more!
Thank you, glad you liked it! You'll love the Southern Upland Way. This event takes in the best 100 mile (well, a bit more than that!) section of the SUW. I want to do it again next year but might not be able to, due to other plans, we'll see... Already signed up for the RAS though. Once is definitely not enough! Thanks again!
Thank you. I absolutely love the Southern Upland Way. Started with 50 last year and did the 100 and the RAS this year. Cannot recommend these events enough. Great challenge and an amazing adventure!
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it and found it useful. The video doesn't do the course any justice. Very challenging but extremely rewarding event. You will love it! Good luck!
Great video, though I’m gutted to have been filmed getting your name wrong at registration 🙁 My turn on Saturday, the weather is looking more runnable!
Thanks Luke, glad you liked it! Hah! Nobody gets it right the first time, I always have to add that it's spelled with a 'J'! Good luck mate, you know the course and know what to expect. The atmosphere and scenery will get you through. Enjoy 👍
As someone trying to train to just finish a 10k at the ripe age of 31, this is absolutely mindblowing! A huge well done! It's look like a such an adcenture! Any advice for someone starting to run (again)?
Hi and thank you! It was an amazing adventure indeed! I'm not qualified to give any specific advice but one thing I'd say is don't push too hard. Take it easy and focus on the mileage as opposed to speed. 80-90% of your weekly miles should be at easy pace. Slow down and enjoy it! Build the base and speed will become much easier. Look up 80/20 running training, try running by heart rate zones (this takes lots of time to get right, so just keep at it but it does work). Enjoy and good luck!
I love running marathons also for someone who hasn’t tried but is kinda interested would you recommend it? And great job keep it up! :) new follower by the way
Hi Jesse, thank you! I find ultras, especially trail and hilly ones like Ultra Scotland are more like an adventure than a regular race. I absolutely love them, everything that you experience, the camaraderie, amazing scenery, solitude, runners high and pain. It is awesome, I would definitely recommend it!
@JesseMcdurmont-sj7qt no worries at all! That definitely was not easy, but thank you! Marshals kept telling me I looked fresh for some reason, must have been putting a brave face on! I was just happy reaching another checkpoint I guess! Small victories!
Well done, Matt. In those temperatures I'm amazed anyone finished. Hope the recovery is going well.

That was no small amount of elevation gain! 17,000+ ft? That’s mountain climbing!
A very undulating course with a few bigger climbs. Definitely wasn't a walk in the park! 🤣... Great course!👍
What tech did you use to get total elevation gain? Thank you! I look forward to your next post.
@belwynne1386 I use a Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar. Thanks, next event is the RAS215 in just over 3 weeks time 👍
