TIPS: Use a clear glass for your cone trap. Once they enter, they fly against the glass due to the light and soon touch the liquid, getting stuck. Meanwhile, they don't bother with the inside of the cone nor find the opening to get out. Also, make sure the hole is big enough for them to enter but not so big that you can drive a truck through.

Apple Cider vinegar still works really good. I set a trap yesterday with halved grapes in it, got some gnats in there within the hour and now there's a lot
Do the Ozark Mountains continue into Arkansas? Not trying to argue, didn't realize I reckon.. I'm from Missouri and just have never heard about anything other than Missouri and the ozarks?

Outside Siloam Springs, but in the Oklahoma side! Couldn't even enjoy a drink on the porch because of em! Res wine vinegar is on my shopping list for tomorrow, thanks!
Eyes, nose, and ears after a shower! It's ridiculous! This is the worst I've ever had with gnats in my 50 years of living in Coastal Texas! I know why they're so bad; the gnats had a head start because all my palms and eucalyptus died from the freeze in January. That's a dozen trees, plus add any potted plant I had, and all the field grases and plants over the 30 acres of land that succumbed...then add copious amounts of rain...it's a losing effort. I can't even spray anything chemically to assist, because it won't dry enough outdoors and the wet conditions could result in runoff that would be extremely harmful to the coastal saltwater habitat that's part of my property...as well as an EPA violation.
I have one gnat and it’s getting bigger by the week,, can’t seem to catch it and I believe it is now biting me while I try to read !! It must know I’m reading testimonials on how these recipes kill gnats! Lol 🤨👍thanks
The purpose of the detergent is not to kill the Nats. It is to break the surface tension of the water/vinegar. They then cannot sit on top of the surface. They fall under and then drown in the water/vinegar. Yes, this is a very effective trap. It cleared my house in just a few days.
MY METHOD IS EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE AND EASY!!!! I used a Tablespoon of sugar, 4 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar, 4 Cups of Water and mix until all sugar is dissolved. I then add several drops of liquid dish soap and swirl to mix.
I have been filling a ramekin half full and have also used little dog food plastic containers that my mom tosses. I find they make great little dishes to have on hand. I'll even fill one of those half full at work and have caught gobs more in a week. I never use the plastic or the paper on the top. They like sugar and are enticed by the sweeter vinegar smells. Try it and let me know what happens! I was counting them multiple times a day until there were so many, I couldn't count any longer. I change it out every week or so, There's a similar mixture that Jerry Brown has to ward off bugs in the summer using lemon soap in an outdoor sprayer. The bugs get dysentery and die. Good to do before an outdoor BBQ or party.
My roommate actually put a bounty on the gnats because he hates them so much and they've been insanely active these last few weeks. Let's see if I can use this to collect.
Holy cow... we suddenly had an infestation and tried the usual traps which worked but I made a cup of coffee and put sugar free hazelnut creamer (I'm on a keto diet so don't eat sugar). I accidentally left it out and boy that cup of coffee had 10 times the amount of gnats the other traps had. They must love coffee and hazelnut.
Same here! They like french vanilla too lol. They seem to be attracted even more when it's warm, I'm going to use coffee as bait for my gnats, they can't leave my coffee alone! I'll try the cone thing too but yeah they just die in my coffee, so gross and they are so annoying!
Why waste a good organic ACV? Several things will work. I like the wine vinegar because every time you go to drink some wine those little buggies come around and annoy the @#$%! out of you.
wow, i'm gonna try this for sure...........i've been battling gnats for weeks now.....in east okla. ........the bitey kind .......i mean i have tiny bites all over from them. i didn't know before now, that some gnats bite, but i do now........... :(
Let's hope the biting kind loves vinegar. I've never been bitten by these annoying pests, but they target my eyes, nose and ears when sitting behind my computer (light from the monitors attract them). Death to them all!
@@RixCanDoit we have the biting gnats in California.. & their bite swells up bigger than a mosquito bite, & itches for 20 mins + Household Amnonia rubbed on, or held a few seconds alleviates the itching, & swelling in seconds. My dog got bitten near the eye, & got pink eye. Your trap doesn't seem to work as well with biting Gnats. I catch alot in my yard with outdoor electric Zappers with a 15 watt, & 40 watt light bulb that attracts them.. & they get electrocuted.. along with mosquitoes, & flies, or whatever... I shut my house door quickly when I enter my house... & usually don't have any in my house. Ocassionally one sneaks in... & they make a high pitched buzzing sound as they approach to bite. I tried fly swatters to kill them.. but they can move very quickly... & never get hit. They can see or sense the fly swatter, & move before they can get hit. I've lived in my house 24 yrs... & never had any gnats until 2 yrs ago. I bought some plants on line from Florida, & the eggs came in the soil with the plants. (I tracked it back to that time exactly). There is some systemic plant bug killer, that will kill the areas that are kept more moist... & when the gnat eggs are killed off.. their will be no more gnats. I'm working on doing this. Gnats will not lay eggs in dry soil. And will eventually all die off. Systemic bug killers will not harm the plants.. just the insects.. & one dosage lasts for a year. Biting gnats colonies are within a short range, & can therefore be eliminated. This is also true with white flies. I got rid of whitefly infestation using the systemic insect kille also. There is also some systemic insect killer for fruit, vegetables, & citrus trees, that won't infect the fruit. And safe for humans to eat. I use this also... 😍
@@sighwilly9473 When I started using this trap I was still living in S. California. Born and raised there, and lived there 43 years before moving out fast. I don't recall the gnats or fruitflies causing the welts you described. That sounds more like mosquitos to me and this trap isn't for that. But then, perhaps you live in a part of California that has a different kind of gnat. They've never really bitten me, there or here. Just annoying little buggers.
Dont nats like old fruits that have started to ferment wouldnt this also attract them into a trap. This makes me wonder if they are always trying to fly up your nose or around your face you might have bad breath and that's why they are bothering you.
I'm a broke college student and my dorm currently has a gnat infestation bc I forgot to take out the trash for 2 weeks. I don't have vinegar but would the sugar in a caprisun work? If not, what are some other substances I could use to attract gnats?
White Vinegar works just as well. I put it and soap in small uncovered bowl and woke to about 30 gnats that had jumped to their death in the vinegar swimming pool.
Added apple cider vinegar and a few drops of Dawn to small glass jar. Within a few minutes I had 1 dead and another on the glass rim. No crafting involved.
Just put clingfilm over the top of a plastic cup with vinegar in it and punch a few holes in it. Easy and effective and you can see the flies you have caught.
Day three and not a gnat yet. I made mine exactly the way it is in the video with the exception that my glass is about two or three inches taller so I just added more of the wine vinegar. I don't have a lot of gnats, but I do see one fly by every now and then.
One here and there won't cut it. If you have a gnat problem, you want to place this in the area where you see a lot of them. Try adding a little regular red wine (gnats love wine!) and see if that pumps it up.
Easier solition. Cut the top of a bottle off. Put half a cop of hot water in in a bowl. Put 2 tbl spoons sugar and mix til desolved. Put 4 table spoons of red wine oe apple code vinegar in. Put a couple drops of dish soap in and mix. Pour that into the bottle and then take the top part of the bottle you cut off and just simply turn it upside down and put it into the pottle creating a funnel.
That's the same thing as shown in the video. You're merely replacing the paper cone for the upside down bottle top. Yes, that's another way to accomplish the same thing. :-)
I experimented with 3 liquid traps to catch gnats in a bathroom window. The source of the gnats was potting soil that I used for an indoor plant. I used a bag of Better Homes & Gardens compost potting soil bought at Walmart. I am certain that the gnats did in fact originate from this bag. Anyway, I built a cone trap just like the one in this video. I used a mixture of wine vinegar, water, and liquid dish detergent. I also used the exact solution in a 3" stainless bowl from $ Tree, and another of the same bowls with fresh water only. I placed the 2 bowls at identical spacings and both 8" distance from the plant pot, and the cone trap spaced equally with the bowls, but butted it up tight against the plant pot. Over night, the bowl of water accumulated a dozen gnats, the bowl of vinegar mix had about 2 dozen. The cone trap cup was not transparent, so I was unable to check it before my experiment was over. For the next week I checked the bowls daily, replentishing small amounts of water or solution every other day lost to evaporation.. The bottom of the two bowls became completely covered with gnats. When I opened the cone trap there was only 1 gnat. The hole in the cone was certainly adequate to allow the gnats in, and the solution upon opening was still strong enough to attract. As cool as this cone trap concept is, I honestly found more gnats that had drown in the commode below the window.
@@RixCanDoit I forgot to mention that before the experiment, I made the cone trap. After a week, I was noticing more and more gnats. On several occasions I stood back to observe the cone. I saw several fly into the cone, but never saw one enter. Had the number of gnats not been growing daily, I would never have conducted the experiment. Even before the flawed experiment, I found drown gnats in the commode, in my dog's water, and in drinking glasses. 1 week, 1 gnat. I am quite happy to have read about the success of others with the cone traps. Thanks ✌️😎✌️
@@RixCanDoit One more thing... If you reread my first reply, you may understand that I said the three traps were "evenly spaced". I didn't note the spacing distance, but they were a little over 12" apart. In addition, I stated that the cone trap was the only one of the three that I put right against the planter. The open tops were 8" away from the planter, giving the cone trap somewhat of an advantage. I reiterate my happiness in reading of the success of others using the cone trap. Thanks ✌️😎✌️
@@rogerveach1282 Don't get me wrong, it matters not to me if someone finds a better mouse trap. But still, it is irrelevant that they were spaced a foot apart and the cone was closer to what you consider the source. The point is, they are attracted by the smell and naturally an open container will emit more smell than a small hole in a cone. As long as they take a dip into the solution with the open source, then continue using it. But I feel much better not having an open cup or bowl sitting on my desk next to my keyboard, nor having to smell the stuff. All the best!
Ah, guess I'm putting red wine vinegar on my grocery list. I've had lots of success in the past with fruit flies with the apple cider vinegar, but gnats may like something else.
Use whatever works for you. I happen to have wine vinegar for my salad dressing and these bugs are attracted to wine and to vinegar. So I use it and it works for me. :)
But where is the source of the nat or fruit fly infestation if no food is out, everything is bleached clean etc? No plants here! They seem to show up when my groceries are delivered? Can that be a source? PeaPod anyone else? I never had this fruit fly issue in 30 years, until I began ordering from PeaPod. I used the redwine and dot of dish soap with plastic cover and hole, method..It did attract one.. and it worked on the one bothering me..but each day I see "one more" showing up..annoying me at the computer. HELP!

Boiz this thing is amazing. Literally killed 17 gnats in 24 hours. Now I don't have to slap around like an idiot while on computer or watching a movie. Worth the time to make.
Thanks for uploading 👍💪
Edit: btw I used cheap bourbon and they love that shit lol
Bourbon? Really? I have allocated my cheap bourbon to mixed drinks (and my good stuff for sipping neat). Now I have another use for it. Thanks!
If I don't get rid of these gnats I'm going to have to start drinking bourbon, I'm going crazy! I watch TV with toilet paper wrapped around my head, I'm not kidding! 🤪
Apple Cider vinegar still works really good. I set a trap yesterday with halved grapes in it, got some gnats in there within the hour and now there's a lot
*Do you even UA-cam bro?* you put grapes in the apple cider vinegar??? I wonder if any fruit will work.
@@pennythatcher1306 cut peaches & cut bananas work wonderfully.
Will hand soap work?
Or - do the same thing without the cone, just a small bowl or whatever with a bit of vinegar and dish soap . Very effective.
Works like a charm!
Do the Ozark Mountains continue into Arkansas? Not trying to argue, didn't realize I reckon.. I'm from Missouri and just have never heard about anything other than Missouri and the ozarks?
The Ozarks dominate northwestern Arkansas.
This works insanely well I put one in my garage and it caught probably over 200 gnats in 2 days. (I used a clear glass)
Much appreciated! Those things are annoying
1:20 It's "any farther", not "further". Farther is for distance. Further is everything else.
God told me to tell you that you might be right. ;-b
@@RixCanDoit Which god, Thor? Apollo ?!? I need to know!
haven't caught any gnats with the other traps i've tried, my exepnsive monitor is covered with smudge marks from me killing the gnats lol I am excited to try this one :P
Outside Siloam Springs, but in the Oklahoma side! Couldn't even enjoy a drink on the porch because of em! Res wine vinegar is on my shopping list for tomorrow, thanks!
Cherokee Nation?
Wow I just made one 5 minutes ago and have already trapped and killed 8 gnats! Thank you for this!
They go for my eyes! I swear it
Yes they do! My understanding is that they are attracted to the CO2 that we expel. Guess we need to hold our breath? lol
Or up your nose😡🥺
If it grows as big as a Gremlin, don't let it get near water. Them things multiply faster than wabbits!
@@RixCanDoit lol that’s funny
The purpose of the detergent is not to kill the Nats. It is to break the surface tension of the water/vinegar. They then cannot sit on top of the surface. They fall under and then drown in the water/vinegar. Yes, this is a very effective trap. It cleared my house in just a few days.
most dish soaps have insecticide in it
Thanks for posting this it helped me so much
That's so strange lol. I just started watching the show The Ozarks and I look up how to make a gnat trap and you happen to live there lol. So weird.
Nohemy Mendez we need a Wendy trap now
White wine viniger works really good also
Results ??!!!! I wanna see dead gnats !
It works!👍👍👍 I have to this every summer!
@@mstjazzy8994 what size cups do u use
I have been filling a ramekin half full and have also used little dog food plastic containers that my mom tosses. I find they make great little dishes to have on hand. I'll even fill one of those half full at work and have caught gobs more in a week. I never use the plastic or the paper on the top. They like sugar and are enticed by the sweeter vinegar smells. Try it and let me know what happens! I was counting them multiple times a day until there were so many, I couldn't count any longer. I change it out every week or so,
There's a similar mixture that Jerry Brown has to ward off bugs in the summer using lemon soap in an outdoor sprayer. The bugs get dysentery and die. Good to do before an outdoor BBQ or party.
@@mstjazzy8994 did not work for me
My roommate actually put a bounty on the gnats because he hates them so much and they've been insanely active these last few weeks. Let's see if I can use this to collect.
I looked at your video and and got my answer.thank you
Glad I could help!
I’m going to use a clear cup so I can see how many gnats I caught.
I often use a clear glass as I too like to see those critters pile up. But be ready to be grossed out!
@@RixCanDoit lol
Thank you so much!! This worked so well!
Glad it helped!
I really like this method because you can not see them in the cup when you're throwing it away!
Tropically Mixed I use small Mason jars and I like seeing how many I can get
Gnat free! Less than 24 hours 🙌🏽😁
Thank you. This worked!
Glad it helped!
This really works!
🌈🦋ThankYou
My pleasure. Hope it works out for you. :-)
The vingar works with fruitflies fine - had NO effect on the Gnats infesting my home.
@SLY GXP I laughed too hard at this.
My Rat Terrier, Beau, and I thank you!
Thank you too!
Love it cost nothing, to be free of flying pest👍👍👍👍👍💃
Holy cow... we suddenly had an infestation and tried the usual traps which worked but I made a cup of coffee and put sugar free hazelnut creamer (I'm on a keto diet so don't eat sugar). I accidentally left it out and boy that cup of coffee had 10 times the amount of gnats the other traps had. They must love coffee and hazelnut.
Now that's an interesting idea. LOL!
Same here! They like french vanilla too lol. They seem to be attracted even more when it's warm, I'm going to use coffee as bait for my gnats, they can't leave my coffee alone! I'll try the cone thing too but yeah they just die in my coffee, so gross and they are so annoying!
They also like Italian sweet cream in their ☕️ just as I
This Dracos mama what about the Mother Vinegar? I have a few dead because of it ?thank you for the video
& their bite swells up bigger than a mosquito bite, & itches for 20 mins +
Household Amnonia rubbed on, or held a few seconds alleviates the itching, & swelling in seconds.
Just annoying little buggers.
thanks
Dont nats like old fruits that have started to ferment wouldnt this also attract them into a trap. This makes me wonder if they are always trying to fly up your nose or around your face you might have bad breath and that's why they are bothering you.
Sure. So would doggie doo. But you have to draw the line somewhere. :-)
I'm a broke college student and my dorm currently has a gnat infestation bc I forgot to take out the trash for 2 weeks. I don't have vinegar but would the sugar in a caprisun work? If not, what are some other substances I could use to attract gnats?
You might try and experiment. I haven't a clue.
Will it work for fruit flies as well?
Best way to find out is to try it out. Let us know how it goes.
White Vinegar works just as well. I put it and soap in small uncovered bowl and woke to about 30 gnats that had jumped to their death in the vinegar swimming pool.
from Warren Arkansas yes I NEED this thanks a lot
This video is a life saver. Nothing more annoying than trying to focus on something and theres gnats flying in your face
I know, right?
I have found gnats to put holes in my blankets and clothing very smart insects how do I get rid of them in those area other then washing all the time.
Though I've never had that problem, I would place the traps in areas where I found those buggers to be an issue. My office, my kitchen, etc.
It work?
I didn’t catch one single gnat.
How do you the larvae Ive probably caught millions but they still keep reproducing
You have to find the source. Check your kitchen sink and any potted plants you have in the house.
@@RixCanDoit has to be my leaking AC unit thats where I see most if the little guys
It would have been nice to see the end results of actually catching gnats.
Sure. But that would mean I'd have to wait until next summer to show that as I killed them all!
I just made my trap🤞🤞
Sorry, but that's a flawed experiment. By having open containers right next to the cone container, they will first land in your open liquid.
Nicely Done
Thank you!
At first, I thought I clicked on the wrong video.
Does malt vinegar work with this
I don't know, but Malt Liquor works for me!
Kk I'll try it
What about pickle juice?? Ugh the smell of regular vinegar makes me want to puke
RixCanDoit you just reminded me maybe Malorts would would lmao

Ah, guess I'm putting red wine vinegar on my grocery list. I've had lots of success in the past with fruit flies with the apple cider vinegar, but gnats may like something else.
Use whatever works for you. I happen to have wine vinegar for my salad dressing and these bugs are attracted to wine and to vinegar. So I use it and it works for me. :)
gnats and fruit flies are the same thing
I'm gonna try this, I can't handle them trying to fly up my nose anymore!
I hear that!
they try to fly in my ears sometimes...its as gross as it sounds

But where is the source of the nat or fruit fly infestation if no food is out, everything is bleached clean etc? No plants here! They seem to show up when my groceries are delivered? Can that be a source? PeaPod anyone else? I never had this fruit fly issue in 30 years, until I began ordering from PeaPod.
I used the redwine and dot of dish soap with plastic cover and hole, method..It did attract one.. and it worked on the one bothering me..but each day I see "one more" showing up..annoying me at the computer. HELP!
Redwine Vinegar. Those pesky things can come from several sources, including bringing home fruit.
