Holy crap brother, I built a bottle trap to your specifications yesterday late afternoon. Put it in some shade around my house where flies like to accumulate and a few hours later the trap was loaded with flies in the solution and in the bottle waiting to fall into the solution. I like the commenters thought about using a little tiny bit of non aromatic soap. What I mean by that is soap with no smell. Great idea. Then they don't float so well and become part of the primordial ooze of the trap. Hats off to you my brother great idea revolutionary. It would take a poultry farmer like you to come up with this brilliant idea. I had a couple of rotten eggs that were at the perfect aromatic flavor. Before I could even put the rotten eggs in the trap I was being attacked by flies that absolutely loved the smell of these rotten eggs. Mission accomplished huge success thank you for this brilliant information. I'm 65 and I learn something new everyday.
Actually any of high protein containing substances + water. They smell similar when decomposed. Except whole milk which can become too acidic to give "rotten protein smell".
You are awesome. That's exactly what I was looking for. You think Apple cider vinegar, mandarin orange peels, bananas and mineral water would work? I kill about 100 per day in my bathroom with a zapper racket. I'll try concoction and reply later if someone posts at my post so it shows on notifications. 👍

This seems the best idea I have come across for bait.. yes I wanna catch the flies.. but don’t want my house stinking as a result.. going to try this tonight.. thanks 🙏🏻 in advance
I'll try it tonight. I'm changing a rank, overdue litterbox and flies are attacking me in every room in my tiny apartment. The stench is indescribable. Unlike my first two cats, my two boys clear a room when they "make bears" and time does NOT heal all wounds. I dump the burgeoning ecosystem into the dumpster and RUN (ok, really fast walk as to not look sus). There's not much clear oxygen available so I'm Covid gasping to the door, then bustin' it to the tub so the box doesn't have the chance to leave any lingering smells. I can finally breathe when an extraordinary amount of chemicals are soaking and sterilizing the box for yet another round. So yeah, the flies are summoned. They get sucked into the cracked open windows as if they were vacuums.
Hey just a quick tip. Don't make holes on the top. Make the holes a third from the bottom. Use clear one gallon jag. If you do it my way flies will not be able to escape back out. Because once they get in they have instinct to fly upwards so make holes inch or so above waterline. Also do not use tab water because it contains chlorine and it will take a lot longer to start the decomposition process of bait. Used natural spring water for faster results.
And the store bought bait says use warm to hot water. And, most importantly, it takes 24 hours before their bait begins to activate. His bait had been brewing for a week. That's not a competition
I'm going to use your vid to set this up now, as I made a maggot trap to free feed my chickens and I think I've put it too close to the caravan (they free range at the moment) and now we're absolutely infested with house flies, thought it was the heat wave. 4 invite You used beets peels for mosquitoe trap. I just found this channel, tited of dealing with flies, mosquitoes and ants. Please enlighten me, how did you make your trap?
@@alicel3992 Beets contain a chemical called Geosmin that is used to trap mosquitos for research, it also gives beets their earthy flavor, you can peel some beets and put them in your zapper to lure mosquitos and then get a black bucket it has to be black or paint a white bucket black and then fill it with water mixed with dish soap, Dawn works the best because you can use the water on your plants later, but the soap breaks up the surface tension of the water and the mosquito larvae cant get out when they mature and they die in the bucket eliminating the cycle and most of the adults make their way into the bug zapper and the cycle is done, no more mosquitos in your general area.
@@ipeklofijs The beet peels have to be fresh, I think boiling it would destroy the Geosmin, but you could blend up a bunch of beets and that would probably work even better.
I'm keen to try this, but I thought that leaving out the fact that the instructions stress that it takes at least a day for the bait to become effective, when his eggs had had a week to fester was extremely misleading
overwhelming success man! I needed this today. I tried chickens, but just can't do them. I am raising Tilapia fish. Someday I'll trade my fish for some ones chickens someday. either way I have problems with flies due to owning pets, and being here and probably forgetting to take the trash all the way to the curb or a day or two late. thanks mate!
I live in the mountains of South America and I don't have any screens in this particular house and I've lived in one's with screens and they still managed to get in a little but here I must hurry up and eat breakfast early and then I have to open up because it gets too warm. I already used banana peels and other fruit and vegetable pieces in the bottom of a clear or regular yogurt plastic cup with little holes in the top of the lid to catch the fruit flies and it does a great job. Now I gave you a thumbs up and I like your idea but I am concerned about the odor in my house so I'll be careful with how much solution and try a little liquid soap detergent which should help the smell but I will sacrifice because I can't kill them fast enough and I'm very quick. I can even take my time for fun and sneak up behind them with my hand on a table swipe real fast and I have them in my hand haha then I shake my hand and throw them against the wall. But that's just a tradition since grade school and helps keep my speed at 69 I'm still pretty quick because I'm a triathlete but again thanks great idea and I'm so poor my chickens are leaning against the fence haha but I'm rich because I have peace and the Creator in my heart and I've been reading his word for 40 years but I don't play with churches, only help young men get off of drugs and teach them things out of the Bible so consider your idea a donation to the ministry haha as I will have meetings in my house and young men will be getting off of drugs as I had an in-house program in the US until 12 or 15 years ago when I moved to South America permanently and you would have to shoot me in the head to get me back to the US as I'm in a pretty good country with many independent Banks;-) w i n k and I think we won't take too bad of a hit when things come tumbling down, we'll still take a hit but this is a rich country second only after Venezuela that the bankers messed up but not here as the independent Banks stop the world bankers from Gaining control here, thank God but we won't be dismissed from having some problems you can believe that as we see the world getting worse everyday. Trust your creator surrender to him and God bless you all and your families
The fly traps that you buy work wonderful for me! Within a day or 2 it's so full it's busting at the seams! Lol and yes I have over 50 chickens, so we have lots of flys! Lol
Did the top cut water bottle with a new egg and vinegar, water and plastic wrap on top with a hole cut near the opening of the reversed water bottle opening and got small flies within hours. I have a small fly issue in my apartment atm and I'm using 3 of these now to try and gather them.
I doubt the tests were conducted properly. For once, the homemade one uses a hell of a bait for flies while the store bought doesn't because the smell would be RANCID and you wouldn't want that in your house, so, did he conduct the experiment on 2 different areas miles apart so that one trap didn't interfere with the other? When you think which one you want to have in your house, do you want a store bought one that uses a less aggressive substance for smell or do you want hobo STD in a bottle?
Great ideas!, I must ask ,who are the people that thumbs-down great videos like this?! I have seen thumbs-down to adorable baby animal videos! Do some people just do that automatically without even watching the video?🧐
Thanks,i have got a real invasion in my house,we have these trasch cans, and they come and get them every 2 !!! weeks,in my country.Thats the reason!Gonna make a few traps this evening.
Thank you! I didn't really want to pay Amazon nearly a tenner to refill the impulse-bought fly traps I bought a month ago. Egg goo is a bargain by comparison.
Wouldn’t the trap attract more flies to the location, than there already are? Say there are only a few flies around the house, then would the trap attract more flies from elsewhere? Also when some of the flies die, wouldn’t there be a couple of them that stay out of the trap?
Yes it does attract them to the location more. And the only reason the store bought one didn’t work in this video is because it takes a few days for the bait and water mixture to become rotten and attract them. After a few days, they will come to it like crazy .
If you only have a few flies around your house, why would you even bother making a trap? If you actually listened to the video, he made the traps because he already had an issue with flies because of his chickens. In your case, setting up one of these traps because of "a few flies around the house", would be like putting a match out with a fire hose.
The homemade one is more effective cause side by side, it's a lot smellier, so when fly's have to make a decision they choose the smellier one. I've used the store bought one and found great success. I think store bought ones are made commercially so they smell alot less. If you're a home owner, you should probably be considering the store bought one. If you have a massive piece of land, homemade is better
My son left a few trash bags on our back porch because he forgot to take them to the curb. Now we have an awful amount of flies. I'm going to try this.
That's nice for outdoors. At least the wind will disperse the smell of the egg bait. But I wouldn't want to have that indoors! What can you recommend for indoors?
I think the commercial ones are limited in what ingredients they put in their baits for a variety of reasons but if you make it at home and you don't need to put it where you might be able to smell it then in theory you have more options. Although i was looking for videos on baits. I thought it was interesting that you just cut a hole in the side. i cut the lid off and invert it into the bottle. Sometimes it has worked like yours and sometimes like the commercial traps which is most likely because of the bait (i cant recall the bait i used when it worked)
Thank you for this my place has flies at the moment and they’re attracted to my quails substrate no matter how much I clean it so I’m gonna try it and see if it works

If you use cuts of fish strait into the bottle with water after three or so days it will stink and attract a mass of flies. Keep cut pieces in the freezer for your recharge bait. I empty my trap out every 2 days.
Not trying to be gross or funny but also some of the best bait is human feces mixed in water. Eggs are a little expensive right now. Thank you, I'm going to give this a try for sure.

No problem up at the farm but I wondered what the smell was like around the traps, your fermented rotting egg bucket must stink but wondered how bad it was once the trap was loaded?

The flies really just liked your egg mix better than the pre packed one. Nice tip with the eggs they obviously liked that one a lot! 👍🏻
It takes a couple of days for the bait to activate on the red top traps
I'm keen to try this, but I thought that leaving out the fact that the instructions stress that it takes at least a day for the bait to become effective, when his eggs had had a week to fester was extremely misleading
Fantastic video, can't stand buying fly traps for so much money! Making several today: black fly season in America is in full bloom right now
I will try these one. I've got some pretty annoying flies in my backyard cause I've got pets. Hope it works in me.
Did it?
Did it work or you never tried it ?
@@davidkattan1275 Nope. Didn't work for me.
@@arafluko3487 Unfortunately it didn't work for me.
@@angelobello-an471 😳 I'll try it with dry cat food and water next . What a shame it didn't work.
overwhelming success man!
Flies love rotten fish too
Finally something that works 😂 THANK YOU!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey man I appreciate your videos I like your depth and I really like your overall understanding and your way of keeping it simple
Thanks chief 👌😁
The fly traps that you buy work wonderful for me! Within a day or 2 it's so full it's busting at the seams! Lol and yes I have over 50 chickens, so we have lots of flys! Lol
Shop bought Fly traps work OK if you add a better bait I'd say 👍
Thanks! That's an ingenious idea to me. I would have bought the bait trap. Not anymore!! Thanks for the comparison! Nice video!
Chickens say they are a nuisance to them too. 😂
Put shiny 6 pennies in Ziploc sandwich bags and fill it halfway with water... Hang them outside and you'll see no more flies!👍
My niece says it works!
Get back to me and let me know if it works.
Thank you for this easy to follow and effective information
This worked incredibly, GREAT IDEA MAN.
Did the top cut water bottle with a new egg and vinegar, water and plastic wrap on top with a hole cut near the opening of the reversed water bottle opening and got small flies within hours. I have a small fly issue in my apartment atm and I'm using 3 of these now to try and gather them.
Holly crap, you have my vote and a BIG thumbs up thank you for your time friend!
Thank you for the advice.. plan on making a few of these now
Have fun!
The home made caught all the flies and store bought one was empty because homemade worked so well. Go figure
These are outdoor traps I believe in his case....
@@baluranhaI wanna drink the hobo STD in a bottle! 🤣😂🤣😂
That cracked me up!👍👍

Great ideas!, I must ask ,who are the people that thumbs-down great videos like this?! I have seen thumbs-down to adorable baby animal videos! Do some people just do that automatically without even watching the video?🧐
Thanks,i have got a real invasion in my house,we have these trasch cans, and they come and get them every 2 !!! weeks,in my country.Thats the reason!Gonna make a few traps this evening.
Sounds like Korg from 'Thor: Ragnarok.' I love it!
Another day, Another Doug!!
Korg’s accent is a Polynesian accent Taika used it for a bit of a kiwi in joke :)
Thank you! I didn't really want to pay Amazon nearly a tenner to refill the impulse-bought fly traps I bought a month ago. Egg goo is a bargain by comparison.
Glad I could help!
I'm trying this. I made one where you cut the top off but I didn't do it right. This one is going to work, I can tell.
Thank you for your dyi fly trap i will surely try it out. Cheers
Ill for sure be using this next summer. Thanks!
Listen to the video, I left them both out for like a week. Shop bought contains egg powders that's all I need to know 🤣🤣
If you only have a few flies around your house, why would you even bother making a trap? If you actually listened to the video, he made the traps because he already had an issue with flies because of his chickens. In your case, setting up one of these traps because of "a few flies around the house", would be like putting a match out with a fire hose.
@@danieldevito6380 wth is a fire hose?! lol. Why don't u just say flamethrower
@@TripleTreuViet Because that would make absolutely zero sense.
They were 100ft apart the homemade works way better 👍👌
You Sr. Are a genius 👌
Thank you for this! (It also confirmed my design idea is valid as a basic DIY trap)
My son left a few trash bags on our back porch because he forgot to take them to the curb. Now we have an awful amount of flies. I'm going to try this.
I thought it was a game of "guess how many flies in the bottle" to win that Porsche lol
That's nice for outdoors. At least the wind will disperse the smell of the egg bait. But I wouldn't want to have that indoors! What can you recommend for indoors?
OMG i love your accent! you sound like a real fancy pants!
😂👌
You are definately an american arent you
@@mrfreezer0079 lol
Flies seem to love my red wine and beer. I may use that for bait
😂👍
Flies be partying all night 🤣
Lol looking “exceptionally well” lol “there’s a couple hundred flies in there already” :):):)
Glad I could help! 👌
Brilliant video. I'm going to make several of these traps this coming summer here in Australia we get a thousand of the little bastards thru drive me nuts! Genuis trap
Ingenius! Going to try this in the cow barn. Thanks for posting ;)
Was feeling proud of my gatorade bottle fly trap UNTIL I sat on the porch beside my trap and had my gatorade I was drinking with me... Mixed the bottles up and took a drink of my fly trap cat food water mix. Luckily the trap was new enough that no flies were in it.. Stomach still hurts from just the thought of the whole mix up.
Lols this made me laugh but hope you're okay
My nephew once took a big hungover breakfast gulp from the yesterday-evenings-ashtray beer bottle 🤣 dont know wich is worse
Will this attract biting flies like horse and stable flies?
I'm here because i need to catch some flies to feed my because fly trap for some videos 😂
If you use cuts of fish strait into the bottle with water after three or so days it will stink and attract a mass of flies. Keep cut pieces in the freezer for your recharge bait. I empty my trap out every 2 days.
Would a can of tuna fish work
Thank you for the information. I will make this fly trap, I don’t need LUCK because I know it’s going to work.😊😊😊
You can do it!
His a crack up how he explains love it
Will this work with knats?
@@jovangonzalez4841 *gnats
Not trying to be gross or funny but also some of the best bait is human feces mixed in water. Eggs are a little expensive right now. Thank you, I'm going to give this a try for sure.
Catch em and Dump em in a Lake with fishes, Force Recycle that nature loves- I Will Try this- just don't see myself leaving egg stewing outside for a week- raw fish maybe
The smell stays fairly contained in the bottle 👌
Warning ⚠️ you’ll soon become fly food when you inhale and faint from that fly juice!🤣
I smack them wit a cloth and feed them to my fishes in the tank..free fish food
Bravo 👏🏾 ol chap
Thanks for mate for video them flies now here in my field are driving me nuts hope it helps with Horse flies too. Cheers for that
If you want to do horse flies you need a different trap as they use heat to find a meal not smell like flys
Irn Bru!!
I love that fizzy orange banana cream soda bubble gum quinine nectar!!
Not so easy to get here in the U.S., but well worth the trouble.
Good video, mate.
Cheers!
Thanks, its the best
Thank you so very much that looks wonderful and easy to make, I plan to make some myself
You trap deffo interfeared with the other one stealing flies haha great bait man ive been using sugar and syrup and getting no where
Thank you, I got chickens & I got used eggs. Good as done.
Hey Great Video!! Thanks I'm trying it !!
By accident i had a cup from my local coffe shol with a sippy cup type lid with the flaps left like a quarter cup of my mocha outside on the table and after 3 days it was full of dead flies..i was like oh damn what a discovery. I tried it again but just put in some milk n water amd worked like a charm
I made one 100% organic. I cut the plastic bottle from the top, got rid of the cap, put some water, took a good dump, collected a small turd, placed it in the water, placed the top I cut upside down and ; Voilá. It works!.
What?🤔
🤮
Ok i just cracked some eggs and sat out in the hot sun to brew! Will check back to report!

WOW!!thanks,,I won't buy that store bought trap.Excellent success on your video and your diy fly trap.🔥
Hi we are next to a farm and have used the Red Top Traps in the past, once the bait warms up a bit they work well but they really stink of rotting meat ! No problem up at the farm but I wondered what the smell was like around the traps, your fermented rotting egg bucket must stink but wondered how bad it was once the trap was loaded?
well that's kind of funny, it will attract a hundred times more flies from the neighbors too and you have a real big party perfect invite,, leave stinky things out so all the flies come around,, the way it really works, get your dog to poop on the neighbors grass to get the flies over there ! 😝
I want to use this trap inside my house - what bait can i use which wont make the room smell too badly? Also it is difficult to see if you are bending the edges of the hole in the bottle in or out? I think it is "in" but would be grateful for your confirmation. Kind regards Gordon Webb
Would Apple cider vinegar be good bait? I’m making sourdough starter and it seems like the house flies are attracted to the fermentation.
It might depend on the type of flies. I’ve noticed fruit flies love the smell of fermentation.
Try a banana peel leave it out for a day or 2
So easy, so good thanks friend
Loved the video, loved the comments. Am just wondering if we can replace egg with something else as we don’t use egg or any meat. Would a sweet syrup or rotten vegetable work?
