Honestly i think this game is more art than its horror... Its amazing and this ending is what i got the first time playing it... It made me think of my grandmother WHO passed away a few years ago.... I honestly can't remember the last time a video game have had an effect like that on me... But one thing did scare me about this game though.... It was that analysis of myself it came with at the end... It was so accurate that it was creepy

I also got this ending the first time I finished the game. This is my favorite game of all time and I'm sure it will always be. It really makes me happy to read all the comments since this game is way too much underrated, but I can see there is some people who appreciate this game the way it deserves and are able to feel the poetic and sentimental value it has.

I love the emotion in Cheryl's face and how her voice cracks. It really tugs at my heartstrings. This game makes me appreciate my dad alot more too, haha. I think alot of daughters want to see their dad as knights in shining armor, eh? This was a great game, regardless of what most people say. It deserved the right to be labeled as a Silent Hill game.

When i first played this game my grandmother had just died it was among the worst time in my life i just couldn't stop crying (It was very sudden since my family had kept it a secret from me that she wasn't well) And then for some reason i started playing this game that i first tried when it first came out and i got this ending... It really hit close to home and still does and most importantly the psychiatrist made me realise i needed to move on.... For my grandma its what she would have wanted it sounds so cliche but it doesn't make it any less true for me

This is the ending I got the first time as well. While I was walking towards the lighthouse I joked that I would walk in on my own therapy session and then when I saw Harry walk through the door I gasped and started to cry. This is so sad, I cry every time I see this, cry every time I finish the game. Analysis was mostly accurate too which made it feel ever more personal for me. Such a beautiful game

I played Silent Hill 2. Shattered Memories still have the best story and that whole thing with psychiatrist, characters changing their apperance and behaviours based on how you play is just brilliant. Replacing that all "it's so bloody, gore, grimdark and rusty" heavy horror cliches from pervious games with not-that-much-invasive snow and ice was also good idea.
SH:SM is a rare gem in videogames, shame it's so underrated. It deserves more praise than it gets.

Hell of an ending, right? The revelation that we were never Harry Mason like in the original, that the writers took the bad ending from the original (where Harry is revealed to have been dead in the car) and expanded on it, coming up with a story that longtime Silent Hill fans likely didn't see coming...

Dr.K: What the.. How did you.. You're supposed to be dead!

Got this ending with my first try. This was actually the first silent hill game I played alone without hiding behind my friend's back in her house. Downpour and homecoming were nice but too damn scary for me! xD In This one the monsters were not scary, I didn't have to worry about how I would kill them and eventually I got used to those freaky sounds but this is the most emotional of all the silent hill games I have played and for me the best :')

My grandmother died back on June 15, 2015. I was close to her. I can understand Cheryl's grief. I've been in Cheryl's shoes twice. First being a relative's death, the second being my grandma. Yes; the endings have 2 parts: the encounter and the video tapes. Encounters have 3 versions: broken, bearer of guilt, and hero forever. Here you are watching broken, what you are looking for is hero forever.

really sad ending...this whole time u've been overcoming so many obstacles, trying to find ur daughter but in the end, u find out that u never existed and that it was all in ur daughter's mind. From what I understand, in the game you run into "memories" that are frozen in time and a puzzle comes with those. Harry freezing is a way for them to show that Cheryl is basically keeping Harry in her memories, and try to go on without him. Therefore Love Lost ending.

The very reason why I prefer Wii version for this ending is this piano song which starts when Harry walks in the room. PSP/PS2 version is basically similar, it's all fine.. but Wii version is more beautiful and song has more melancholic and sad tune in it. Downloaded that track and I love it. :) At first when I finished Shattered Memories, I was so shocked. Like.. "OMFG!!!!!" After that every time I see this ending, I start to cry. Made me think and treasure the fact my dad is there for me.

So i guess better late than ever but i finally got my hands on the game i played it on psp! Not my first Silent Hill but definetely my favorite now! I got this endingand i believe it's so perfect for this game, this experience! Someone in the comments said that this wasn't Silent Hill but it was it's own Silent Hill and i couldn't agree more! This game is art and i love that the game transforms based on your playstyle and psychological profile! This game took me about 4 hours and was the best 4 hours of my day. I love that in the end there is a ''humaine'' and very grounded explanation for the characters for being the way they were for the world constantly changing between the ice one and the ''normal'' one and all that because Cheryl was in denial about her fathers death and i cannot blame her! What and incredible and sad way to explain what grief and loss does to someone. Definetely my favorite Silent Hill!

But, even so, he was a human, full of flaws and disapointed with life. Drinking to relax, he could have destroyed the family, but his love with his daughter is something that will never be destroyed.

Even her mental condition. I wouldn't be surprised to see "based on a true story". I can personally connect to the character, and I cannot say that of any other character in any other medium ever.

Back then, i didnt care if he died and i even prayed upon that he would die some day but after meeting him again for 15 years, i take it all back and id be more than broken if he were to die right now. When i played this game when i was back in high school (i was 16-17) i thought it was amazing and still was, but looking back now and seeing the scene where harry says to cheryl after he being with her for so long, that now just makes me wanna cry and i thank the heavens or whatever it is out there in the universe for letting me be with my dad and seeing him again.

I think some people are over complicating the game. The game is designed to play with you. You spend the entire game thinking it is some complicated and incomprehensible plot, then at the end the game throws the rug out from under you and you realize that the whole thing was a delusion. Then you realize that all of the ghost/echo messages are things that either happened to Cheryl or somebody she knew. The event of her father dying ruined her life. She became a shell of a person.

You guys all have to remember something about Silent Hill: Its cracks in time aren't all black and white. You can have multiple universes, if you will, when you're there. Like how some people think that there are a million possibilities and because of their idea of different universes, they all happen. This game is the embodiment of that. That's why it's okay for them to make games playing off of different endings.
    Anyway...have y'all heard about Silent Hill 8? :D

What's the next best thing? Go in a new direction. Resident Evil did it... and yielded great results. I think this game took some chances and got just that. It was so worth playing through for the twist ending. Superb voice acting, solid music, and visuals. GET

@eugene680 Listen closely to what Dr. Kaufman says at the end, because he summarizes the whole game: "A whole universe of fantasy in that thick skull of yours - a skull teeming with agents of repression." The whole game is that "universe of fantasy". The Raw Shocks (the monsters) are the "agents of repression" trying to freeze her in time and prevent her from seeing what happened to her dad. Her mind finally accepts that her image of her father is the one truly frozen in time, and lets it go.

damn i shed tears in the ending of the game. coz i relate my self to cheryl. damn i live today with my past memories of a long gone love one.... i can't let her go...even if i live in insanity.. i wil not do what cheryl do. i can't let her go....

the doctor is so awesome , if they were to make a movie out of this they better get a good actor for him. his lines are great.

Sorry to disappoint, but it is a re-imagining. Just watch some of the developer interviews and they say flat out it is a re-imagining.

The demons in the game are just illussions of Cheryl herself, clinging onto the memory of Harry refusing to give him up (Hense why they all jump on him and try to keep him from running) The final speech of "I'll always be with you" is him saying he'll always be in her heart, it's like his final goodbye to her. In the end she puts up all of her momentos and saying goodbye to the illusion

@BusinessDog2000 I agree... the biggest 180 I've ever seen in a game's ending. Totally threw me for a loop.

I almost cried during this ending...
In my version there was a snippet after the video where Cheryl goes out to the parking lot and hugs her mom, so it was sad but uplifting.
