All good stuff...great commentary on GMRS. GMRS is fantastic for local comms! Added point: Your remarks on antenna are completely accurate. If you're running a 50W radio at home (or as a base station), there are some great antennas to be had. Antenna "gain" is most important for comms. Mine is a Comet GP6NC ( look for it on the internet)...super high gain! Amp up your comms without an amp!! This antenna is also resonant for Amature Radio (bands 2M and 70cm). Cheers! (for those who might not know, "resonant" means you can operate your radio with minimal power loss and without fear of burning up your radio with a mismatched antenna) 🙂

Isn’t the midland radio narrow band only? I think it is which is why I didn’t buy the midland radio because all other gmrs radios operate on wide band.

Yes, it is. At first, I was worried. But I haven't had problems communicating with my friends that are on wide band. They can hear me, and I can hear them. I'm not sure if the quality will improve if I get a wide band radio. For now, I am satisfied with the performance. I even get to repeaters about 30 miles away. I can hit my Baofeng UV9G with the Midland mxt275 from about 8 to 10 miles to my apartment.
For what I understand, it affects more the longer the range.
The reason Midland went narrow band is because it requires less power from the radio. Will see when, if, I get me a wide band radio.
      Thanks for watching! 👍
