Every time I see this stuff, I begin to hate Landy more and more. I wish Brian got actual professional care earlier and didn't get stuck with a greedy, controlling, insane quack! Landy ultimately ended up ruining Brian forever, he was never the same after his "treatment" and it depresses me.
Historically, an underated song. I remember when this came out in the mid eighties, and it floored me. It was a minor hit, but the point is the Beach Boys penetrated that very particular era in those days of big hair hard rock bands quite handily on MTV. This was a really big video hit on MTV! Brian in the midst of his recovery from addiction and psychiatric problems dropped a a very strong song on the scene in his typical effortless fashion proving his formidable skills once again.
El Gil- That is Billy Hinsche, he has been in the Beach Boys off and on for about 35 years. He was Carl's brother-in-law. Very dependable part of the band. Formerly in a band called Dino,Desi, and Billy. :)
One of my all time favorite songs by them!! I still remember it when it was first released. I don't think I have every heard this song played live yet! Too bad they were lip syncing here! And yeah Brian looks very tense here! But still a great clip nonetheless!!
Watching this on TV when I was kid is a strange old memory of mine. My parents recorded this on VHS and was laughing at Brian Wilson's Performance and I never knew why because I was really young. So I searched and searched for this until I finally found it and now I realize what they were laughing at and talking about. He flipped off the camera and was smashing the keys with his fist. Also he looked like he was geeked out of his mind on something 😆 🤣 😂
So considering what Brian has been through, it's amazing what he's shown and accomplished here. Perhaps it may seem funny to some, but his performance inspires a lot of respect in me, and this "piece" just proves what a wide scope in music and great invention he always had.
@@ladipiskac5662 this is just a shitty playback performance that Brian obviously had no interest in doing. there are enough other actually good performances he did that could be seen as inspiring.
No, the "squirt" isn't Landy -- sure looks like him until the end, where you get a closer look: it's Billy Hinsche. Really is a good tune for what it is, though. And Brian's hair...VERY round.
Brian’s performance here is less than impressive here. They’re obviously miming to the song here. I’ve heard from a reliable source that he was completely terrified about performing this song before virtually being forced to go on stage with the rest of the group.
Not so familiar with this song!! I think Brian sounds better with his higher range solos!! Don’t get me wrong….I adore The Beach Boys & have followed their music since before HS!!! I’m just partial to their older songs!! ❤️🩹😻 I still have one of their 33 1/3 LP records!!! 🥰❤️😎
What's so embarrassing about that? It wasn't a live performance, but an ordinary studio recording. The fact that Brian was there deserves a lot of respect. None of us can imagine what he went through and how he felt. So in this context, it's perhaps only a good thing that the song was from playback.
@@ladipiskac5662 I can tell when lip synching is occurring even when I am not a fan of a particular group or song. In RARTTR, the second verse contains horns. Anyone see any horns on stage? Brian was an absolute genius, look how he's able to get that keyboard sound just by punching it with his fist.
Before Landy, Brian looked like he never wanted to be there when they played live. After Landy, Brian looked like he didn't even know where he was.

Landy also saved his life, but yeah, he was a scumbag

A Brian Wilson lookalike mannequin punching the keyboards. Love it.
Love the girls screaming when Carl's part came up.
Carl Wilson. My God, what a voice.

I don't think I would agree with you. Dennis Wilson was probably glad he wasn't in the video for this song.
Brian took the rock n roll motto by heart punching the keyboard and flipping the camera off when it came to him.
1:11 interesting keyboard technique there!
Yes, very Sun Ra or Martin Rev!
1:15 Brian flips off camera as it briefly pans by him....

I think Brian was getting a bit violent with that keyboard...!

They gave Brian that Pet Sounds era mop top haircut again too ! Lol.
brian didnt adapt his slicked back hair look again until about 2 yeas later. looked much better obviously.
Minus that brief time around the KTSA era I noticed Brian never really went away from that side part mop top style for like almost 20 years.

Didn't realize that was Brian singing at first, and Al in the second verse. I guess I can only recognize Mike and Carl's voices.
An electrifying performance of my favorite Beach Boys song.

This is one of my favorite songs from The Beach Boys. Thanks for sharing this clip with us.
Dennis Wilson would have hurt someone if he had to play roto-toms. Complete lip-synch. Still a great song.

Brian most definitely should've kept the beard.
nah, when they played at live aid he looked good without it. It was just his haircut in this video lmao
I think that the only one in the group that could pull off a beard and look handsome was Carl🥰
@@barbarapope349 carl propably had the best beard ive ever seen, but dennis, brian and even al looked quite handsome with a beard too.

Brian sounded like Ozzy Osbourne by the mid 80's
