      Brian hears voices that scare him
      In this case that may have been a factor. Yet I think that he just loves his little brother.

      @@daveidmarx8296 yeah its quite amazing! I think its apparent that Brian never lost the know-how to harmonise and sing, but his voice just simply wouldnt cooperate like it did in the 60s. still its nice to hear him and also Mike Love actually comes off as a chill, cool dude which is pretty much never the case normally.

    In 1983, Interior Secretary James Watt wanted to exclude the Beach Boys from the National July 4 celebration because he thought the rock element would be unsuitable for a patriotic celebration. Nancy Reagan reportedly got into his face and let him know she was not happy with that decision, and it was swiftly reversed. Ever since, the Boys have been known as America's Bank, I mean, Band.

    One of Brian Wilson's big influences was the Four Freshmen. This song, Full of Spring, was one of their hits. You hear Four Freshman harmony in many Beach Boys songs as admitted by Brian in an interview.
    But here the Beach Boys sound much better than the Four Freshmen. That fifth voice really makes a difference.

      @kelhenny12 8 років тому +4

      +sokerplair -- At 2:30, you can hear/see Carl come in a split second late with the high falsetto. That leaves me to believe that Carl was actually doing the majority of the high octave that you hear in this video.

  • @eternalise
    @eternalise 4 роки тому +14

    2:36 Mike hears Brian hold his high note a split second too long and go ever so slightly flat and looks over to the man he famously referred to as having "dog ears" for harmonies and normally undetectable mistakes... seems dog ears run in the family, eh Mike? :p
    Seriously, though, this is beautiful and was by this time second nature to them as they'd been warming up with it and singing it since before they were famous, even. There used to be many clips of them breaking into this on the spot during talk shows, interviews, etc and no matter the year, or how they sound on other songs on a given night, they always sound like their young selves, circa '64, including Brian, when they sing this song. Brian really did the Four Freshmen proud.

      +Robert Schirm Sir --yes, it really is BW, & that's what is so frustrating--or at least WAS, in the mid-80's. At any time he wanted to, BW could sing this well. He chose not to onstage to the total frustration of the band, especially Carl & Mike --they knew better, & it made them deeply resentful. In those days, the guys NEVER knew if BW would sing when he was supposed to, or if he did, how he'd choose to sound. It was to say the least, maddening. --The guys are singing to a pre-record , or at least it sounds like it to me! Wolfsky9

    • @Wolfsky9
      @Wolfsky9 8 років тому +2

      +Robert Schirm Sir--to add : in case you're wondering if that's Jeff Foskett on the pre-record, no it's not. As good as he once was, Jeff never had that " whine" you hear so perfectly from BW. Oh, he came close at times, but it wasn't the same, & he'd be the 1st to admit it. No, it REALLY is BW here. Wolfsky9

      +kelhenny12 I too think it was Carl singing the falsetto. Bruce definitely had the ability to do it, but I think he was doing tenor. Brian was singing alto I think. His voice by now had lost most of it's amazing qualities it had when he was younger. If you watch it carefully, It appears Brian is surfing around in the alto, tenor areas at will. From what insiders say, Brian so easily could map parts in his head that this would probably be easy for him. What an incredible contribution the Beach Boys have made to the world.

I have to imagine if Carl had remained healthy, the touring band would have chugged along into the 2000’s and maybe beyond. Obviously just my opinion, as we’ll never know what would have happened…

    Not perfection but pretty darn close to it. I've heard them do it better in concerts of yore. But still, nobody can harmonize like the Beach Boys. Even on an "off" night, they're still better than practically everybody. Notable exceptions might be Manhattan Transfer, Carpenters,
    EW&F, Beatles w/multiple harmonies, Bee Gees, ABBA, Eagles, CSN, The 4 Seasons, Mamas & Papas, The Chordettes and of course, The 4 Freshmen. The Osmonds and The Lennon Sisters sang great harmonies too, but they were more geared for television audiences.
