Thanks David! It will be a little while before you see part 2 of that interview, but I hope you'll find it just as interesting. Michael lived the dream putting the AWoOz together and we had a really good time discussing its development. :) But oh my gosh! Don't some of those 1973 newspaper reviews just about take your breath away? I was stunned how many of them would compliment the book generally and then find some way to be condescending about Baum or Michael or both.
I found both articles fascinating. They both confirm the bias I've encountered with academia's opinion on _The Wizard of Oz_ and L. Frank Baum. Very much looking forward to part 2!
4:15 I collect series books so I know that back in the day, libraries held all series book in low regard, not just the Oz books. I was lucky when I was a child because my local public library owned the complete set of Oz books. I assume it was because Baum's Castorine had a branch there, although Baum was no longer running it, and it was because of that local name recognition that the Oz series was treated differently.
Interesting. Our library had a handful of the Baum books, but that was about it. Most of the other libraries around didn't carry any other _Oz_ title besides _The Wizard of Oz_ .
