He got the puck with his pads before the trip so the play had died before the trip and Kooch made the save. He was prepared with the stick of Brady went with the backhand but used his pass to touch the puck before a trip happened.
You missed the part where he got the puck. The pads made the save, Tkachuk was nowhere near the puck when he got tripped because the goalie read him like a book. Trip happened long after the outcome was decided.
@@flounder he mov d his legs towards the puck and where he aimed his stick was in case of a deke or Brady going backhand and it wasn’t an intent to trip. Now it doesn’t matter the intent it matters if there is a trip but since Kooch touched the puck before the trip which killed the play it isn’t a penalty.
i dont really get it... it is so clear on the replay that the goalie poked tkachuk's skate lol... the goalie wasn't even plating the puck. Am i missing something?
IMO (opinion, not fact like others claim vehemently), Kooch (Kochetkov, the goalie), went for a poke check where he thought the puck was going, in that Tkachuk (the shooter) was skating in from his right and he assumed would try to deke around and shoot backhand around him. Tkachuk was looking down and when he happened to look up, Kooch was already laying on the ice in front of him. He then lost possession of the puck, tried to miss Kooch by skating around him, stepped over Kooch's stick and then his foot lands right at Kooch's glove and he falls over it. IMO, nothing the goalie did was done to intentionally trip Tkachuk...he was doing what all goalies do, get in the way of any path the shooter has to the goal. It's not his fault IMO that Tkachuk wasn't watching where he was going in time. People need to realize this happened in a split second...it seems like he was blocking the right and anticipating the left in case Tkachuk tried to go that way. I don't know how it SHOULD have been called, but as a Canes fan, I honestly can see it going either way, and I wouldn't have been able to argue too much had either result occurred. Same with the penalty call itself. Different people have different opinions. That's life.
Brady lost control of the puck or shot the puck into the pads before any contact, or simultaneously with the poke check being in the lead skate. Borderline. But the no call is the correct call, especially because Pyotr did not “throw” his stick in the first place.
I am from Fiji🇫🇯. And I am fan of Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers when I started watching NHL ice hockey for the first time back in 2020 at 28 years old. Peru🇵🇪 and Tunisia🇹🇳 are also my favorites in Soccer football now because I like Canada🇵🇪.
I'm fine with the penalty there's no reason whatsoever to lose your stick there as a goalie except to leave it to get in the way. But my God did the Tkachuk kids just all split the same brain cell? Guys are in the NHL still going through puberty. It's embarrassing.
why are ppl mad at this? this is a textbook poke check, it looks like hes targeting the feet because hes blocking any path to pull the puck backhand and brady doesnt slow down at all. if he slowed down at all this move isnt even possible.
Lmao what??? that's not how poke checks work lmao... A poke check is a poke check when you poke check the puck... A poke check to the skates whether he had another intention, is a trip...
It's not. Stick was never aimed at the puck very obvious he aimed for the skate the whole time. Watch the slow motion extremely easy to see he stares down the skate his stick is aim at the skat and he lungers in the direction of the skate the opposite side of the puck. It was intentional
LOL, it looks like he targeted the feet because he did! He never even got close to the puck. Hey, it worked but do think this will be called tripping in the future
so what’s the rules on a “poke check” If there is any.. i thought poke checking was you throw your stick out (still holding it) to knock the puck away… for majority of Brady moving towards the net the puck is near his left foot, and Kotchetkov threw the stick towards brady’s right leg, and have having his body “poke check” the puck.. i mean if this is legal then why aren’t more goalies do this in shootouts. If it was a case of wrong judgement by the goalie then why do most (not all) penalties happen?
@@btgkg9639 i’m not talking about the reason for the penalty shot, people are saying Brady Tkatchuk got “heated” over the way Kotchetkov poke checked him..I’m wondering is this a textbook poke check or does brady have reason to be upset by
@@matthewbyrd2693 I think the person answers your question. In an isolated case, Tkatchuk should have every right to be upset because that genuinely isn't a poke check when you didn't hit the puck. But because the Refs probably realized they shouldn't have call the penalty shot in the first place (which I don't think they really got the penalty shot part wrong), they just turn blind side said ok, we will let that trip slide on the penalty shot that probably shouldn't have happened.
@@jkliao6486The save was made with the pads simultaneously with the trip. That means the puck was miles away from Brady's control, and clearly the stick was there to cover the backhand. He tripped after the play was long since over, and at the exact same time as the puck touched the pad. You're allowed to make saves with your pads, it turns out.
That is what it is. And the rules are similar to trying to block a punt in the NFL. You can do it...but you better get the ball (or puck in hockey) or else it will be a penalty if you hit the punt (or in this case, the opponents skates.) It is a risk you take when poke checking.
The complaining is just the sens fans being sens fans. Just gotta ignore then and let them tire themselves out. Then give em a bottle and they'll go down for a nap.
Is Tkachuk the right captain for the Senators? He's often more of a nuisance to his teammates than a focus for a winning performance. Impetuous captain appointed too young. To be a captain, you need a certain maturity, which Tkachuk doesn't have.
I remember Daren Millard "slew footing"" me like this when we would play Wednesday morning shinny with ALL the Sportsnet gang....he had NO INTENTION of playing the puck but EVERY intention of taking out my skate blade!! Which he did! Dirty Goalies hate to admit their wrongdoings, as Millard also wouldn't admit to! Daren, please make or add a comment if I'm wrong here, of course, you also two-handed me with your goalie stick, which Toronto Police at the time said was a Level-2 Assault but again, I was kind enough to "let it slide" after discussing with Scott Moore, Doug Beeforth and Dave Rashford. Millard vs Millard. The "early days" of Sportsnet!
Because Sportsnot will only use the opposing teams feed in Canada, we get the totally "unbiased" opinion of the Carolina sportscasters! In no world was that poke check NOT an intentional trip and should have been called! Now I honestly don't know if they issue penalty's on penalty shots because I have never seen it done before!!
Are Sens broadcasters pro-Carolina? Do they jeer when Sens initiate penalties? Do they attack Tkachuk when he gets pissy and gets thrown out like that? I would expect not...but I may be mistaken. As for Tripp Tracy (the color commentator), I am surprised that a man who got his only professional hockey shot and has spent virtually his entire career with the same organization would think a split second penalty should go in his team's favor. This isn't a national sports coverage team or an ESPN team, this is the hometown broadcast crew, and the color commentator at that....he's not the play-by-play announcer who generally has to retain some lack of bias. His job is to provide information about the hometown team and give his opinion about the plays that happen in the game. Also, the man was a goalie whose style has ALWAYS been to "attack"...he LIKES that kind of play and played like that himself at Harvard University. He was known for coming out of his crease and attacking plays. He's awesome and a homer and nothing out of the ordinary for any team's broadcast crew.
What is the actual rule on this? He clearly didn’t go for the puck, he was pretty obviously going for the skate. Maybe he was reading the movement of the puck but it sure didn’t look like that..
I thought it was a good poke check at first. But, looking at it in slow motion. Oh def the goalie tripped him. He didnt try to go after the puck. Straight for his foot. Tkachuk should be pist.
Look closer. Kooch got the puck with his pad before the trip and his stick was in case Brady went to the backhand. So his stick protected against Brady going backhand and his pads went for the puck and his pads did touch the puck before the trip which meant the play died before the trip happened.
Ok but seriously tho, how is this not a tripping call? Goalie aims the pokecheck at the skate, not the puck! I may be way off but it's the definition of what a trip is. No?
if Brady sees the big pokecheck coming and skates around it, that will leave 90% of the net open. should be looking for it on that goalie. maybe even call penatly on goalie for tripping . I know they called Hasek for tripping before.
Tkachuk is arguably one of the best captains in the league. Very strong on both ends of the ice, brings intensity and puts some life into the team. Meathead comment regardless if you think it was a trip

He got the puck with his pads before the trip so the play had died before the trip and Kooch made the save. He was prepared with the stick of Brady went with the backhand but used his pass to touch the puck before a trip happened.
Except when he got the puck...
Go rewatch another couple of times then edit your comment
His poke check didn't go anywhere NEAR the puck???
He literally did trip him
Круто вратарь сыграл👍
Kotchekov reminds me of Billy Smith.....showing some real grit and aggression, love it
now that is an aggressive forecheck!!
Its not a forecheck. Don't use words you don't understand.

Koch is definitely entertaining 😂
He is dirty
how's that throwing the stick? it was more like a drop
I'm fine with the penalty there's no reason whatsoever to lose your stick there as a goalie except to leave it to get in the way. But my God did the Tkachuk kids just all split the same brain cell? Guys are in the NHL still going through puberty. It's embarrassing.
Какой же Кочетков красавец. Делает рядовой матч незабываемым событием.
Gotta love Pokechetkov
That was PRICELESS! Now do Matty next... PLEASE 🙏🙏
Kochetkov has to have already landed more poke checks than any other goalie currently playing. The dude does it every night he plays
"Landed more poke checks ..." - he missed the puck by metres and took out a skate. Not a landed poke check.
@@charliebrady3751he still stopped the puck didn't he? He also beat the Senators, they have enough tears to ice the rink 4 times over.

@1:07 I love it. Still watch this on repeat to get psyched up for the games!
Good job goalie!!
Brady got his ass handed to him and was pissy. End of story.
Waaaaaaaahhhh! -Brady Tkachuk
Good Job Mr. Kochetkov❤
Streak is broken! Good Game Carolina
If Sportsnet really think that's a trip on the penalty shot then they need their eyes checked cause that's no way a trip
why are ppl mad at this? this is a textbook poke check, it looks like hes targeting the feet because hes blocking any path to pull the puck backhand and brady doesnt slow down at all. if he slowed down at all this move isnt even possible.
It should have been a penalty. He never hit the puck, just skate. Penalty according to the rule book 100%.
LOL, it looks like he targeted the feet because he did! He never even got close to the puck.
Hey, it worked but do think this will be called tripping in the future
@@danielb4982Puck stopped with the pads first. Penalty shot over. If he was outright tripped, which he wasn't, he would get to take the shot again.

No.
Penalty shot for what exactly?
Uhhhh…. That’s not a poke check. He just straight up tripped Brady.
And the goalie didn't throw his stick to give up the penality shot.
You are clueless
And by rule, that should have been a repeat.
@@AEMoreira81by the rule the penalty shot shouldn’t have even happened since Kooch didn’t through his stick.
Not to familiar with the rules. Is a goalie aloud to slide his whole body over the ice to stop the puck (and player lol) ?
This is a trip ....plain and simple ! Your headline states it clearly..."Receives Misconduct After Getting Tripped On Penalty Shot".
Kochetkov wanted all the smoke LMAO
Shouldn't have been a penalty shot and the tripping should have been called, two garbage calls back to back, nice!
If there was no penalty shot they there wouldn’t have been a trip
@@CarolinaBuckrush cheers Geoff
Kinda looks like he tripped him and poke checked his skates not the puck 🤔
I never want to see my Red Wings lose to these rat ass goons again after seeing this.
That was a classic Johnny Bauer save!😊
Old time hockey was also shooting at the goalies head
so what’s the rules on a “poke check” If there is any.. i thought poke checking was you throw your stick out (still holding it) to knock the puck away… for majority of Brady moving towards the net the puck is near his left foot, and Kotchetkov threw the stick towards brady’s right leg, and have having his body “poke check” the puck.. i mean if this is legal then why aren’t more goalies do this in shootouts. If it was a case of wrong judgement by the goalie then why do most (not all) penalties happen?
It wasn’t. It was a make up call since there shouldn’t have been a penalty shot to begin with.
If you got a problem with Kotchekov on this, you just don't like hockey
The complaining is just the sens fans being sens fans. Just gotta ignore then and let them tire themselves out. Then give em a bottle and they'll go down for a nap.
If he did it to bederd you would be furious.
Is Tkachuk the right captain for the Senators? He's often more of a nuisance to his teammates than a focus for a winning performance. Impetuous captain appointed too young. To be a captain, you need a certain maturity, which Tkachuk doesn't have.
It's simple it's impossible to prove it wasn't on purpose. The call is correct. The play on the penalty shot was excellent by the goalie.
Wow! Great defensive play by Kochetkov!!! You don't see that kind of play often these days! What a beauty!
"poke check" but throws his stick straight at his skates with the puck no where near..
Should have never been a PS. He did not throw his stick.
They should get a second 2 on 0 penalty shot
I know they called Hasek for tripping before.
if that's what ottawa calls a captain then they're in trouble. And people wonder why ottawa isnt a contender
Please!! We need more captains that show passion. I would hate to have a captain that didn’t have any passion.
