Absolutely beautiful work of art I never knew something so complicated could come from a Pluto
Thank you sir :)
Well the Pluto is a SDR containing a full ARM Cortex-A9 running Linux. ^^ I am still stuned by the price.
Excellent job looks very neat👍
Thank you! Now just need the leaves to drop off and I'll be able to talk again.. lol.. Will go portable soon for a real test! :-)
Fantastic video!
Since the RX IF is relatively low frequency, you could buy or build an RF power limiter to replace the 20dB attenuator. This would help optimise the RX noise figure. Although it would be worth doing a noise figure calculation for the system to ensure that the improvement would actually be worth the effort.
Alternatively, if you were feeling really adventurous, you may be able to remove and bypass the last IF amplifier stage in the LNB. That way you could more closely match the maximum output power of the LNB with the maximum input specification of the Pluto. This is probably the best solution for optimal noise figure and largest dynamic range.
Great work, and thank you again for sharing this with us all!
Thanks for the comment @Alex Scarbro, very interesting indeed. Not sure if anyone else has done that before. The signal that you can see in my videos is highly attenuated because 10GHz doesnt like trees and leaves, but I'm sure when I go portable with a direct line of sight I will be seeing a HUGE leap in SNR. Time will tell I guess, just need to be allowed out by the government to do these tests. Thanks for watching ;-)
Great video thanks. I have a Pluto and was wondering how go about using it for tx/rx on QO-100. Your video is a great help on how to go about doing this.
Hope the plan to go /P works out. Thanks again.
Thanks Steve! Hopefully I’ll be going /p very very soon :)
It's very interesting, I never knew there was "Ham Radio" like satellite service running on 10GHz. Opened my eyes to a whole new option.
Not usa
Watching your channel costs me money. Lol. Another part ordered that might find a home in the junk box. I'm setting up a QO-100 station.
Haha 🤣 It’s an expensive hobby! But so so much to learn and play around with :) Thanks for watching, appreciate it 👍
Interesting as always, thank-you! Do you know if the Pluto Plus is on general sale now please? I'm thinking of getting into satellite in 22.
I Just Ordered The Dolphin Receiver On Ebay Wich Goes From 100KHz To 1.7GHz ! Cant WaityTo Connect to my DIY Antennas
would it not be a good idea to have shelding of the components like PS, sdr, amps etc and the whole case? and where can i buy the 2.4gHz PA?
Absolutely, and that’s something I forgot to mention in the video. I will be shielding the amp and using Ferrite rings on the cables. Definitely advisable with everything compact and so close together. Amsat UK sell these amps.
Does anybody have a link to the circuit diagram of the 5W 2.4GHz amplifier?
Great tnx !!
I wish there was a satellite like that where I live
A previous build of yours was based on a LimeSDR. Now you changed to Pluto. Only because you could replace the OCXO with a more accurate one or are there any other reasons? Really looking forward to your field test 👍
Yes, mainly because the TCXO was easy to replace, but one other reason is that the Pluto can use Ethernet over long distances. I didn’t get good results with long USB cables with the LimeSDR Mini.
Sorry, haven't seen that part list is mentioned in the extended description of the video...
Which xtal osc mod did you use?
If you can use ethernet, is it possible to use wifi and make it remote save for the power?
Hi - nice job! Can you give a pointer to the waterproof enclosure you’re using please? There didn’t appear to be an ‘O’ ring in the lip - what do you think about the waterproofness (is that a word?!) ?
Sure, take a look at the parts list here: www.m0dqw.com/2020/05/11/188/
@@TechMindsOfficial Is that a Bullseye LNB and the Passion 2.4GHz feed? Didn't see on your parts list ...
The ImmersionRC is rated at +30dBm but you have it showing 37.36dBm ?? Is there an offset ?
Yep, I’m using an external 10dbm attenuator so I entered that offset into the RF meter.
Where can I buy the lnb?
Do you have a list of the parts used with source links available?

Thank you !! Great ... a question , do I need to give a external gps signal to Pluto to stabilize or is it ok to use without ? 73 Marco
I would recommend either using external gps OR like I did, which is to replace the TCXO to a higher stability.
@@TechMindsOfficial ok thank you !
Please make a video on configuring Pluto on LAN
Sure, that will be coming very soon :-) Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the great videos, please can you post one on connecting the pluto to ethernet.
do i need a band pass filter for 2.4 Ghz or it is optional?
I would definitely recommend one. If you’re using the CN0417 pre-amp then that already has one built in.
I wish there was a geostationary satellite like QO-100 over the US, I feel like it would get a lot of use
And then have a portion of it linked to QO100! How cool would that be!
todo ese equipo tienes que ponerlo en la misma antena, tienes que hacer un transceptor para ponerlo en la misma parabolica y te comunicas con el por ethernet.
Nice video. Tqvm. Stay safe...
Thanks! You too. 🙏
Bloody'nora that CN4017 gets hot! You could fry an egg on it. Did you undertake to implement any cooling?
Kind of, I used a small fan blowing directly onto it. Think it gets hot even without any drive.
Great Video, trying the Same Setup. Is it Not neccesary to switch the PA with a PTT Signal? 73 DG6UAX
The amp in the video is okay to be ran with constant PTT, but you can modify Pluto to provide a PTT if required. I now use the new SG Labs amp which had RF switching for PTT built in.
Is the 20db attenuator is really usefull ?
It protects the front end of the Pluto as the signal from the LNB is extremely strong.
Died in the wool Afrikaner QSO @ 6:30 !
put the dish on the roof :) or side of house!
Wish I could but I live in an apartment on the ground floor, I already have a couple of ham antennas on the chimney so dont want to push my luck lol..
@@TechMindsOfficial then built a shed and use roof of the shed? lol
how much to make me one ??
1 Billion Dollars..! lol.. Only joking, I havn't really thought about making these to sell as its a kind of kit project. Where are you based?
@@TechMindsOfficial middlesbrough my email is raybokor2@gmail.com
I am interested too...
Tech Minds I Need that configuration too. Please make this Box buyable. Im sitting in Germany and will buy it please !!!
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💎
What i can highly recommand: get two fiber optics converters for ethernet this helps isolating your network card / switches from lightning. I folowed this instructions to setup my pluto: oe7wpa.com/index.php/projekte/elektronik/datv/qo-100-mit-dem-adalm-pluto/qo-100-datv-betrieb-mit-obs-und-pluto-sdr-mit-custom-firmware . I also plan on modifying it to have an external clocksource wich will be generated by a GPS Discipined OCXO. Wich will should give enough stability to tx DVB-S.
