Well done. Please note that the muRata TCXO with 40MHz is a 0.28ppm type (see datasheet)....not 0.2ppm !!! It is wrongly declared on the Mouser website. And the slightly cheaper XTCLH model offered by Mouser is actually a 0.5ppm type to be discontinued. Make sure you use the more expensive XNCLH40M type (0.28ppm). Suggest to update the video title - also of your other video - to state 0.28ppm

The new one is a 0.28ppm! I bought all old real 0.2ppm :)

@@DM4DS That must be muRata's part no. XNCLH40M000THJA1P0 with clipped sine wave output instead of CMOS?

What you write must be the "new" 0.28ppm. I have to look again in the datasheet. Mine has 2 different letters and is discontinued 2018. Also the price was 14,xx € + tax , not 8,xx€. A Spanish OM took the PCB out to measured it, after he received his modified Pluto and approved 0.21ppm over long term / temperature. I don't have such accurate counter, so that info was great for me. If you write me an email, I try to find his graph and send it to you.
And yes, it's a Clipped sine wave. Also the level is relevant. Pluto don't like lower or much higher levels.

@@DM4DS According to datasheet the XNCLH40M000THJA1P0 with clipped sine wave output is still in production and is indeed 0.2ppm. The once with CMOS output (different part number, starting with XNCLH40, but rest is different) are 0.28ppm. I will order some of the 0.2ppm types and give it a try.

@@oscardiez5657 I tested some of the newer TCXOs but they are all worse than the old ones.
In the time since the video I got my jitter measurement equipment fixed and there it is instand to see how bad they perform against the old, also the Vpp is too low! The old made 1.5Vpp and the new clipped sine wave do 0.8Vpp, thats too less!
Instead I use now a 0.1ppm, I import from Taitien directly from Taiwan. They do a really good job but as wrote in the description, A good LDO is necessary go get a real clean signal. Some Plutos have really bad noise on the voltages, some are fine!
      More infos via email :)

So it is not necessary to weld thread to the chassis of the mico-usb?, to use the pluto by ethernet?

Only did the mod in the video and now the pluto runs 24/7 in LAN. Saved the project.

Could you describe the tools that you.'re using and where to by it

    • @DM4DS

      Thanks for asking.
The tools are nothing special. 2 soldering irons, 183°C solder paste, solder wick and some tweezers.
If you want details, please write me an email: dm4ds@gmx.de

@@DM4DS The 183°C paste is in most cases standard SN63PB37 alloy. This is tin with a lot of lead.
The Pluto is leadfree from the factory. So there is an undefined mix in your solder joints. In the industry noone would do this for reliability reasons. Maybe this is why the hobby is called "amateur" radio.

@@armmargret1970 my 4 solder pastes between 138°C and 260°C are all lead free. This is no cheap Chinese whatever paste. Tryed it but was never happy. It's from ChipQuik, ordered via Mouser. Can send you the links if you are interested.
Would be nice if you could Link us your channel. Must be a great channel for high professional works.

Nice video, what is the type of Tcxo you use to replace the original one and where can I buy it?
I just orderdered the Abracon ASVTX-C-40.000 I05-T (0.5 ppm), but now I see yours is only 0.1 ppm....

    • @DM4DS
      @DM4DS  4 роки тому

If you need one, you can send me an email. Can solder it onto a PCB etc. In the video you see the old 0.2ppm, but you are right, I'm only doing 0.1ppm mods now also on a different PCB especially designed for the 0.1ppm.
