The vip mode was awsome , i remember playing it , honestly after half life and the begining of cs , were some of the best years of my life , used to spam cs so much back in the day , and still love it this day.
At 8:05 that thing is called a "Chumtoad" it's from a game called "Half-life: Opposing force" and a fun fact the Half-life launcher is a launcher For Counter strike 1.6
8:07 this is a Chumtoad,a deleted enemy from half life which it was a deleted enemy and also got featured in two easter eggs first one in Opposing force and the other one in blue shift
Escape Mode just needed a rework. I really like it and I think some changes that can be done are Ts being able to buy at least some weapons, Ts having access to the riot shield, maps with more cover, maps with easier navigations, you name it.
Tbh I do like the gamemode,I generally love games where you escape and try collect stuff that can help you. As you said in the video if there was more coverage and such, game mode probably would stay in game,at least as one map.
Wow this brought back some memories as a kid age 11-12 first playing CS on my brothers PC. ES_JAIL was my favourite of the three maps but did seem very one sided
i never much like the ES mode, it feels unbalanced, but of the 3 ES maps i like the es_jail most.... es_frantic feels creepy train subway map.... es_trinity feels a big map....
Would be really cool to experience this game mode on a proper map, perhaps on a map that alternates its layout and blocks approach points every second round, kinda like cs_havana, making it harder for CTs to camp in front of escape points.
And then this is probably got adept by the Korean- Nexon and make it into "Zombie Escape" like gamemode , but instead human trying to out run the zombie, it's the zombie that can only slowly drag themselves to the finish line why pretending to be an npc or else got kill by the human. Extremely one-sided gamemode when human can just test hit few zombie before they death so thd ratio of ein usually be like H 12 - Z 1.
Never heard about this gamemode before, I suddenly got this video recommended, and guess glad I did. If this forgotten gamemode gets enough attention, you might be able to have someone mod it into some titles and especially for CS GO and CS 2, hopefully.
It seems like a pretty fun gamemode, but it does appear heavily one sided with the T's not being able to buy. They could probably fix it by giving them a random weapon with low amount of ammo, like one extra mag to tip the scales a bit. The explanation for the gamemode could be that the T's are getting boxed in and have spent all their resources to defend and have to escape with the few items they have left.
i didn't start CS until...1.4 maybe? I had read in PC gamer about the Escape mode, but when I got my copy of CS (I kinda HAD to buy the CS box copy b/c i couldn't download the mod for my HL copy over dialup pre-torrent lol), the mode had been removed already!!!! I always wished to play it.
Maybe with better initial map designs the game mode could have been succesful to some extent. Jail and trinity seems to be quite good although, at least for me who after playing only the 6-8 default maps for years, got infected by some quality fun servers as well. I think one of the unrealistic aspects of CSGO or even the series is the small map pool at competititve. I mean, obviously there is a high effort in planning of an anti terrorist action, before executing it, if doing so is possible. But in real life, the scenes where these actions happen, are practically always new scenes. So there is no room for practicing almost pixel prefect grenade lineups and jumpthrows. Maybe having a regularly changing and much bigger map pool even for competititve, would make the game faster and more exciting, while the more skilled teams would most likely still come out on the top. So maybe this would shift it a bit from very fine execution, towards a bit higher level strategic planning, and towards more regular surprises. Maybe new maps could be released much more often, some could go out of the competititve-wise active map pool, and return later on,as a regular practice. Obviously, this would require a much higher effort on map making and map design from the development team. Or really good community maps should make their way into the map pool more often as well to achieve something similar. I mean, improvisation, and speed is an important skill as well, even in the usage of "utility". For exampe, I have played servers with auto bunnyhop, and I was able to throw fairly accurate utility while bhopping at a high speed. To an extent, that I have always dared to do so. (Although 1.6 maps are more plain geometrically, and come with less clutter, so it is a bit easier to do so, if we analyze it from this aspect.) But I am quite unwilling to spend time with learning pixel perfect grenade throw-lneups. And yes, there is the good old reluctance of the scene against many efforts. After playing since the early days, I say, many of these reluctants, even many of the old ones of them can not even play dust 2 properly. Hence existing the d2 only servers as their own comfort zonze. Although, I also have to mention, that a good game model is not necessarily a realistic one as well. I think it would be a well nailed mixture of fun and realism. For example I feel a bit unsafe without the wallbanging of 1.6 (much higher damage through wall, an obviously much simpler obstacles, a box often was just a plain cube) And I think, the utility throws above buildings or huge obstacles got a bit overemphasized in csgo. Maybe due to the less effective wallbanging, and due to the much more effective smokes, and much less effective flashes. I mean, safe execution of plans are highly dependent on the level of utility usage. Maybe with another kind of approach towards the map pool, stronger flashes, and smaller, a bit less (consistently) dense, thus less easy to deploy (sometimes even insufficient) smokes, it could be a better game. I mean, I do not even wallbang anymore, these damage figures are making it a last-resort effort imo, at the very end of the round. Unless one wants to empy the clip, or give away info and become an easier prey :)
Yeah, additionally, if I have wrote about "map pools", I do not really like Valve's approach towards the old maps as well. I mean, just removing maps like aztec, and dust1 is not cool at all. There is no reason to remove anyting, find a better UI instead, because many like to play these truly classic maps removing them is just arbitrary. I not just like them, but at public, prefereably I play them as terrorist. Maybe even the Valve servers should have a teambalancer although, because the level of play, the people only willing to camp, is atrocious. I think if I would have to name the date when Counter-strike died, then I would name the day, when regular gate rush at aztec T done by multiple people, even on a crowded public, even against hard opponents or at bad teambalance disappeared. No balls, no competitive, thats all.
At 8:05, in the author credits -- its a Chumtoad, cutted enemy from Half-Life 1, who was first an easter egg in Half-Life Blue Shift.
cumtoad
i never found it in HL BS, where was this located?

There's been a recent resurgence in popularity with this game mode in the modding community. Some folks have been putting out new Escape maps.

It came pretty late and disappeared pretty quickly again. It was there for a very short time and hardly anyone played it.

This gamemod work nice in cs2d . That was one of my fav gamemods. But construction and mini games will always in my heart
Escape was pretty fun but could never find people playing it 10 years ago or so

this would lowkey be a fun mode to play. Have to check if there's a server available.
Have you found servers ? I search on gametracker I did not find any :( ..

8:06 wow a chumtoad 👍
5:54 yeah mine i cant get up to reach this, but i saw so some CS beta gameplay that they can reach this without much effort....
yo you can play escape mode in counter strike nexon zombies but humans are trying to escape and zombies are pursuing
Would be funny if they find a way to make this enjoyable in CS 2.
