I love my Sony FS5! It’s my daily driver! It works, it’s compact, it’s ergonomic, is customizable, it’s light, it shoots 4k! The list goes on and on! It’s a great camera!
I am using this camera since 7 or 8 years. And the best lens for me in almost every situation is the Canon EF 24-105 F4 with the Metabones Speedbooster.
I've been looking to upgrade my 8 year old Sony NEX VG30 but new cinema quality cameras are often at least 2-4k more expensive than what I paid for my VG30. The hard part is, I know if I get a camera that is perhaps 2-3 years old it'll have basically the same capabilities as anything coming out today, but at much lower prices. However, every camera channel on youtube only wants to talk about the newest cameras, so it's hard to find great videos on cameras from a few years ago without going back through every other camera based channel. What I'm saying is thanks for making something to give a great opinion on a somewhat older camera, but without the high price of everything current. :)
@@MEBoisv Because ATOMOS rushes products to market then releases new models rather than fixing the issues. Its an asshole strategy, but it works well for them and Blackmagic Design.
I have an A7IV and am considering picking up a used FS5ii. It seems like an outstanding value at $2k in like new condition, just curious if you think it would be good for football highlights. Mostly just going to IG reels and in house stuff. TIA.
low light and autofocus BLOW on the FS5 ii especially comparing it to the A7siii...we also cant use a monitor and record at the same time (unless there has been an update I'm unaware of)
@@bryandelosreyes5817 not true. Both manual and autofocus are options. Neither is necessarily better or the way to go. It all depends on what you, the creative, want
1:30 - I'm looking at all those buttons and literally every one of them that I actually use frequently on my a7s3 is also exactly 1 click - no navigating through any menus. Eg. ISO. I just turn a wheel (where's your ISO wheel?) and shutter: I turn another wheel. Aperture: has its own wheel too. Audio gain, ok I currently have that as click 1 button > turn a wheel, so 1 extra step there. You can fully customise all of that though! a7 also has onboard HDMI! Full size... It's a lush camera, no doubt, but I think a7 has many better features (some worse) and is a lot smaller (which for me is helpful). And it's way cheaper, so money left over for lenses etc. Doesn't a7 shoot raw as well?.. feels like a lot of these are features that both cameras have.
There’s no way these both comers have same features, if you shoot video you know how big deal is Internal ND. Longer battery , quickly able to detach, monitor and handle for gimbal use , more XLR inputs , no over heating issues , adjustable angle viewfinder . Fs5ii way better than A7siii for pure video
@@techy1433 1. Internal ND: I just don't mind 90% of the time using a higher ISO. High shutter speed is rarely a problem unless it's essential to have a bit of motion blur 2. XLR inputs - very rarely use them, but when I do there's always the XLR accessory for the much, much smaller and lighter a7s3, which if you shoot video you know how 3. Easy to attach a handle - lots of options out there. I really appreciate the a7s3 also being better for shooting portrait and being compatible with a wider variety of gimbals, tripods, etc. Big cameras really are out for me now unless they REALLY justify the bigger size, weight and price tag. 4. I think you might be mixing up the a7s3 with another camera because it does have many options of detachable monitors, supports 4K and 5. You also don't seem to be aware that the camera shoots in raw? 16bit. I just never need that personally, So I'm grateful for the smaller size and weight, But if you want it you just add the atamos recorder. The camera setup still works out cheaper once you've added all the modules that you need. It's very rare that someone needs all of the modules all the time. 6. Another reason I think you might be getting mixed up with other cameras is that there are no overheating issues on this camera. I've used it in record breaking temperatures all day in the sun, shooting 4K for hours and hours. Yes I try to keep it in the shade, even with a small attachment on the hot shoe or whatever, I think that's generally good practice for any camera, But if in these intense conditions it doesn't overheat, I'm happy. My A7S2 definitely had a couple of times it overheated, One of them was solved by just increasing the overheating threshold in the settings, and once I updated the firmware I didn't have an issue again, and I've pushed the A7 S3 much harder and not even had a warning. If you're having overheating issues with the camera you have a bad unit or need to update firmware. 7. Regarding batteries, I've shot very long day Indian weddings, shooting in 4K with image stabilisation, using the screen on full brightness etc and never managed to get through more than 3 batteries in a day. Personally I would much much rather have smaller batteries that don't weigh half a kilo, As long as I don't have to change them every hour or two. (Like the a7s2!)
Well 12 bit prores raw the a7siii can also do. So the raw I feel it isn't a feature of the fs5mk2 anymore. The nd filter definitely is awesome but to sacrifice image quality due to not having that full frame look and amazing low light 10 bit look in all formats and it doesn't let u be discrete when outdoors. Those things u lose out actually help just getting a better image both for client work and film. I guess at this time of technology, the fs5mk2 isn't a camera to use rather the fx6 has now taken that place if u want those nd filters built in and the same prores raw which a7siii also has.
I agree with the first points absolutely , however my view on this is some of the greatest films, photos and commercials were shot on antiquated tech and we remember them not for their image quality or what we can recover in the highlights. We remember them for the story and elements it had, I just think that in this day and age i started to see myself to concerned about the power of a camera when in all truth its the artist that makes the film or production. Why fix in post or have more power in post to cover mistakes if we get it right in the first place in camera. In other words i feel skills beat tech all day.
@@tydetalx5873 an artist's ways of expression increases when the camera supports the capacity. If one has the skills only then can they do something like this where tech and art combine. So I guess I'm more the David fincher perspective where using technology and art hand in hand is now a necessity both in production and in post
I wanna jump in and say I'm broke... That's why I'm gonna go with the fs5ii in 2022 because it will allow me to be at the top of my game where my only bottleneck is the price. Then when I get them $$$.. fx6 here I come (or the next iteration 🤣)
The Sony A7sIII and even the latest version ALL exhibit serious rolling shutter effects. This also included the new FX30. Though the FS5 does not have a global shutter, the far faster sensor readout minimized rolling shutter and this makes it a far more serious and effective shooting tool. A FS5 MKII can be used as a B camera along side an F55 or Venice. That should give a hint as to how much more capable the FS5 MKII actually is.
Atomos just recently (2-3 weeks ago iirc) released an update to enable raw via the SDI unit. But if the FS5ii only captures 12bit raw, that's still technically worse than the A7siii, which compresses 16 bit to 12 bit raw.

Hi, great video! Any lens recommendations for the FS52 ? For weddings...thanks. What's the lens on the video? THX - Keep up the good work!
You can never go wrong with the 24 MM to 35 MM range for weddings any of those two or a combo of both via zoom lens is perfect.

Thanks for the review, I just bought one myself, any comments on using a full frame lens with it?
Awesome video! so u can record raw on the ninja v and fs5 combo?? Ive been searching for this answer for a while
You cant on the Ninja 5 but the Shogun 7 yes u can because of the SDI in and outputs

As of 11/21 Atomos enabled the Ninja V+ to record RAW from the FS5.

The autofocus is not that great if I am being honest in comparison to the new cameras. However it is very capable despite it being a tad older.
Manuals really the only way for creative and best results.
