Either ways, it sounds as if the FS7 Mrk I would be a much better investment than a new FS5 II... Thanks for mentioning the video quality of the Panasonic GH5 being on par with the FS 7 I as a B-cam... I always thought it to be true however I have never heard it from a pro using $5k-$10K cinema cameras like yourself... Thx again.

I find when you shoot raw/Pro Res on the FS5 the gap becomes a lot closer between the two cameras. I actually prefers the colour of the FS5 shooting externally, it bypasses the yellow biased Sony colours. Though the FS7 is definitely cleaner and more clinical looking. I'm selling my FS7 for the FS5 + Odyssey combo, personally I haven't touched my FS7 since I got this combo.

Thanks for the vid dude! Just subscribed! Surprisingly it's not clear to me if the FS5 can shoot UHD at 60p internally. I know it can't do 4k but UHD would be good enough for my needs.
It can't. It can only record UHD internally at 24p and 30p. For 60p you'll need an external recorder such as the Atomos Shogun. In 1080p tho you can record 60p continuously and record up to 960p (240p realistically, anything over that looks awful) internally in 5-10 second bursts.
Slog3 on both cameras makes no sence, because slog3 is made for 16 stops of DR. FS5 and FS7 only have 14 stops of DR. Slog2 is made for 14 stops of DR, its clipping at 108% IRE so you dont waste data in the codec and can raise your shadows= lese noise. Slog3 clips at 93%, which means noisier shadows and proofs, that with slog2 and slog3 you get the same DR of 14 stops. I would prefer slog2.
@@cinemaheist8 i have only used slog 2 for a7sii because the grade on slog 3 always feels like its just about to fall apart. and all i shoot is night , concert footage with low light or shitty harsh lighting. or stupid bright texas sun.
Brian - Nice video! I noticed that my FS5 (version 1) was VERY soft compared to my FS700. Have you noticed that the FS5-II was any sharper than the original FS5? I have a theory that Sony placed a heavier optical low pass filter over the FS5 sensor compared to the FS7 or FS700. I suspect this was done to deliberately keep it softer than the FS7. Do you think the FS5-II is now just as sharp as the FS7?

The prorez output gets you 12bit. You save 4000$ buy just buying the fs5ii prorez kit, Running a different dslr as b camera, is a bad choice all around for a colorist. Camera A is my fs5ii my camera B is the Sony A7sii all day. PP7 Slog 2 / Pro
Should have rated the fs5 800iso the same way you did the fs7. The color science of fs5 mark ii is the same as fs5 mark I. The new color science is only on the first PP
No offense but, if you don't light a background you will get noise no matter what. Light your background and increase the light on the talent to keep the ratio the same and simply close the aperture a few stops, you shouldn't have noise. It's not a fair test to use it as an "ideal" situation when it's not ideal, gives the wrong impression
You didn't say whether you were shooting HD or 4K in the FS5 Mk 1 but you were shooting S log. The FS5 really cannot be considered as a professional 4K camera. 4K on the MK1 FS5 is only 8bit 4:2:0 so it nowhere near qualifies and Log is not a usable option. I have both the FS5 and FS7. My 5 is rigged for HD with a Samurai Blade SSD recorder capturing 10bit 422 and the 7 recording 10bit 422 internally in either HD or 4K. The FS7 remains a Pro 4K camera but the 5 should be considered as HD only unless you are capturing RAW with the Mk1's later paid upgrade.

Cine EI slog3 iso800... How come... I guess using slog3 min iso can be 2000.. Am i missing something here. Is there a way to use iso800 in log?
