    • @mathewtsab
      @mathewtsab  2 роки тому +3

      Is it tuned? If not, possible might be flooding or maybe the idle air control valve may be dirty or old. Not sure what your setup is but some people delete the idle air control and just rely off the idle adjuster on the throttle body which isn’t a good idea if you plan to street drive the car. Mine retains the stock idle air control valve and I have to balance the idle tuning between the idle screw on the TB and the idle loop on the hondata s300. If you’re cars not tuned, you should get it tuned. Would solve a lot of the idling issues and more power

    What compression ratio are you at ? Getting ready to build a b20v and I'm concerned that pump 91 will have pinging problems. With 12:1? I'm thinking I have to stay around 11:5-11:8ish ?

    • @mathewtsab
      @mathewtsab  2 роки тому +1

      I’m running 84.5 ITR pistons. They’re rated about 11.5 or so but take bore n stroke into account, I’d say about 12.1 compression is about right. The tune matters a lot and the tuner. I’ve ran 13.1 compression on 91 before but so much timing had to be pulled out. If the tuner is good, they can pull it off. Still made 220whp with that setup. The current setup is 224whp but able to utilize more timing so there’s more midrange. But when tuning, it’s important to recognize detonation and let the tuner know to tune it out. If you hear ticking, just let them know to pull some timing till it stops ticking. Ticking is detonation. Timing tuning is only something that can be done on a dyno. Street tuning, you can’t really feel if you pull too much. It can be done tho.

      B20vtec motors should always be tuned. If it’s never been tuned, get it done. Detonation will crack the sleeves. Find out what pistons you have, if stock b20 pistons, don’t cam it, you risk valve to piston contact and may drop a valve. Even a stage 1 type cam is really pushing it. A setup like yours should be good for about 200whp or a little over if tuned. Good luck and thanks

      What pistons are you using. If you’re using stock pistons, you need to notch the intake valve reliefs. They’ll not enough to accept the extra lift from a long duration cam. If you run ITR pistons, they come wide enough already. My cam gears are still set at zero. Engine is still running as we speak 17000 miles later and 3 years going. Use OEM valves or something that’s reputable. eBay valves will snap.

      I’m about 10k miles in on my build and beatened every day that I take it out. It’s all in the tune. Build it and get it tuned right away. If you’re running 84.5 b20v setup with 84.5mm p30 pistons, depending on what fuel, you can always lower compression by using a .040 head gasket. On 91 pump gas I like to see my compression psi to be around 260-270psi max when compression tested. That way I can still have some timing in it, and that’s 84.5mm ITR pistons with a .040 head gasket with gsr head. Without the .040 head gasket you’ll see 300psi. My first b20v was like that. It still ran great but so much timing had to be pulled. Still a monster motor. It’s all in the tune. That motor snapped a valve and was destroyed but I’m sure it would held together. 84.5 itr piston setup. Gsr head stock port, just has a bowl blend. 3.5 cold air intake, skunk2 ultra race polish V stacks and runners(not ported only polished) SMSP style highend tri Y header. Kept all the ports close to factory size for increased velocity. Polished runners to increase as much velocity as possible.
