It took me 2 hours to replace one of the spark plugs on my 305. I had no lift so only from the top. I almost lost my mind. Having a toddler around was only making it worse.
Thanks for giving me the confidence to go ahead and do it. A few of them are a little tricky and out of sight, but I was able to feel and use both hands to get it. Not an easy job, but doable from below. Don't try from above and use good jack stands! Don't risk your life. I use 4 stands. 2 are backups.
+kenjams Thank you!
I always use 2 per corner lol
If it tends to idle up and down (surge) and leap forward at a stop it may be a bad EGR valve. You may want to take a look at it to see if it's working correctly.
even on a 4 brrl non tpi?
this'll come in handy. just bought a '91 z28 a couple of weeks ago.
post it
@Kingsevends I would recommend just using a decent OE type replacement plug. AC Delco ones should be fine.
i always had just as much luck going through the rubber fender skirting on the side of the engine compartment for those that can't afford a lift.
Excellent video, thank you!
Being 6'4 helped me reach all my plugs from the top! lol If I had a lift Id definitely change them from the bottom. Nice video.
Very well explained video, haven’t done it yet but a good explanation really helps. Cheers.
@MuhfugginDanMC HI, you would just need to jack it up hi enough to be able to crawl under the car and reach it.
@hp11208 Yep. Probably a future video!!
I figured I would have to go under the car to change them. I did the two front ones on the driver side from the top.
could the spark plugs be a reason to not pass smog, i havent changed the spark plugs in my camaro in 7 years and its just barley not passing smog. Thoughts?
Would this be the same for the 1987 firebird 5.0 carb?
Everything I've read says to gap it at .045
Thanks a lot!

Would this be the same for 305 carb firebird?
Heads up if you have headers you need to cut a 5/8 socket in half lol
AC Delco R45's?
cool, that oil pan looks like its leaking.
If there's a check engine light on you may want to pull the code to see what it's pointing to. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
i was putting new e3 .42 spark plugs on my 305 83 el camino, and the first spark plug and the last plug on the left side of the engine, wont go in help please
ft they're hard to get at, an old hot rodder trick is to put a piece of rubber gas line on the tip of the spark plug. That should enable you to be able to get the spark plug started by hand. You can use the flexible rubber hose to get it started. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
show us on a 1996 trans am passenger side stock manifold
We're always cycling through cars filming hundreds of common repairs for common vehicles every month. We'll add this to our list of repairs to film. Check back again and hopefully we'll have it soon. +jp
See I have slp headers that go right over top of the spark plugs lol :(
