@@pandaman1331 the problem I have with those games is that you’ve essentially mastered the combat before the games even started. Good combat systems require learning and dedication to be mastered. To think, I bought this game on a whim and now it's gotten me to be a major fan of the series now! So far I've played this, 9, and Memories of Celceta. I plan to play more!
Play Ys 7 too. It's gameplay and graphics might not be on Ys 8's level but it was the game that changed the Ys concept to what it is today and it's music and story can easily keep up with Ys 8. I'll also continue with 9 after I finished 8. Not like I'm in hurry though. You know how you know you are playing an absolutely amazing masterpiece? When you have piled up a wishlist over 20+ games and still take your time playing through your current game.
Why you should play Ys VIII: Because it's hands down one of the greatest RPG's ever made. For real, the characters, the setting, the exploration, the gameplay, the music, how all of the various systems fit together into a cohesive whole... From top to bottom, Ys VIII is charming, unforgettable, and consistently fun to play and control. Ys may not have the budget of Final Fantasy... but Ys doesn't force you into ducking under the umpteenth object or having you squeeze through countless tight spaces, thus killing the momentum (Lookin' at you Final Fantasy 7 Remake). Ys VIII is a rare gem. Play it if you can.
I like the fact that it's continuing story. There are far too many JRPGS that reset the setting and characters with each new iteration. Having one world and one recurring protagonist allowed me to get more into the lore without being doused in exposition.
Ff7 remake is overrated hot garbage disguised behind hype and graphics. If it has no names or relationship to the original game, everyone would hate it. It's just milking/pandering to nostalgia to gamers with no taste. I look forward to playing This game some time though.
KInd of seems to be everyone's experience. I didn't have any expectations for this series but Ys 7 turned out to be my introduction into the arpg genre. I used to only play turn-based jrpgs before that. And Ys 8 consolidated it and officially made me an arpg fan. That's why I keep telling people that reviews are only and outliner to sort out games your are definitely not for you but to find out wether you really like a game or not, you simply have to try to play it. And I'm glad I tried it.
Ys VIII is just so much fun. I like Ys origins a LOT too but Ys VIII was just impressive. That moment you reach the top of the mountain and see the entirety of how much of the rest of the island you have to explore ...
True. People for once didn't exaggerate when they told me how good this game is. You should give Ys 7 a go too. It might not be quite on 8's level but it is also a masterpiece. Maybe not in terms of gameplay and art style/graphics but it can easily keep up in music and the story might even be superior to Ys 8.
I had a „video game depression“ during 2018 and 2019. Then I played Ys VIII in January 2020 and instantly fell in love with videogames again. It is one of the best games of all time to me and I already pre ordered the Ys VIII Deluxe Edition for PS5 to play it again ♥️
@@pandaman1331 No, I played JRPGs for ages but Ys VIII somehow exactly hit my sweet spot What I love and always loved about the genre and also it reminded me a whole lot of Zelda links awakening which was one of my first jrpg like experiences in my childhood :)
I'm not quite as much of a gaming veteran as you but I agree. I've been playing games since 1997 and yet I keep finding new gems and masterpieces. Ys 8 definitely wasn't on my radar though. Makes you wonder what else we missed.
Man, I love Ys 8, it's such a great game. I got it back when it first came out on Switch and now that I have a PC I've started going through the rest of the Ys series, as well as the Trails series. 3:30 Speaking of Trails, there's actually a bunch of references here and there to the Ys games in it. This moment in the video reminded me of one treasure chest phrase, from Trails in the Sky SC, which says: "Adol is here to wreck boats and kick butt, and he's all out of boats."
One of the things I loved about Ys VIII in particular is how natural the exploration felt. Yes, it's basically a Metroidvania disguised as an Action RPG, but that kind of game just lends itself to exploring mysterious places like the Island of Seiren. Conversely, Ys IX didn't really feel as enjoyable with its exploration. Where the Island of Seiren slowly opens up as you find more mysterious artifacts and castaways to help you overcome obstacles, the City of Balduq just... didn't. The only thing that really limited where you could go in Ys IX were some magic barriers, and while there was an explanation in the game for why they were there, it just didn't feel as exciting to explore a city where magic barriers stand in the way as it did to explore a mysterious, uncharted island where you needed to find these power-ups to actually explore it. So the exploration is really the only reason I found Ys VIII superior to Ys IX.
The only review of the dozens I have watched thst really showcases what I can expect bub jumping into this game and series. I'm convinced to get a copy now!
Your voice quality, video cutscene choices, and thoroughness of the game's development throughout the years deserve a thousand likes (if I could). This is a high-quality review that deserves more subscribers. Please do more reviews for other games! Kudos to you.
Man, the soundtrack in this game is godly. I mean, the music from this series is great since Book 1, But Ys 8 knocks it out of the park. Sunshine Coastline, Iclucian Dance, and A-TO-Z are some of my favorite tracks in any piece of media.
Yessss I’ve been waiting for this! So glad you liked it!! I did not know you could upgrade your camp defenses at first and I almost quit the game because of the raids. Luckily I figured that out and was able to finish one of my favorite games ever. Cannot wait for IX!
I can only agree on your opinion. I love this game, for me it is the peak of the Ys series and a modern masterpiece. The only thing I can complain about are the raid battles, which often appear while you really don't need them. I've finished Ys IX last week. It has some small mechanical improvements and I like the cast (excluding Dana) better, but overall I still prefer Lacrimosa of Dana.
Yep! I've never liked JRPG's and even the ones that grabbed my attention were never able to grab my attention enough to actually finish them. That was until I decided to try Ys 8 earlier this year. I loved that one so much that I beat it and then immediately played it again and got about half way through before getting other games to play. It holds a special place in my heart now. One good thing about the slower pace of the first half of the game is that it gives you time to really get to know the side characters and come to care about them, which really raises the tension as the stakes rise in the second half of the game. The game gives you a reason to care that things are. . . . Well, I won't spoil it here. One of my favorite things is how well the game's story and its mechanics connect. You explore to find more survivors so that they can join your village and contribute their unique skillsets, which allows you to do things like upgrade weapons, make potions, farm for food that can be used for healing and cooking meals, etc. These all help with advancing in the gameplay mechanics, but they also make complete sense in the story. Adol and the others WANT to find survivors so that they can get everyone off of the island. The survivors WANT to contribute their unique skills to helping you and everyone else on the island flourish while they're stuck there. Interacting with the characters and getting them to like you can help increase your stats, which helps advance gameplay mechanics, but it also makes sense that the people stuck on this island with each other in a close-knit community would learn to get along and grow to regard each other and friends or family. The game's world, like many games, have many "roadblocks" that prevent you from advancing in the world until you find enough survivors to help you remove the obstacles. This is obviously a classic gameplay mechanic where you can only explore certain areas early on in the game and you can only advance to other areas when you fulfill certain conditions, but it also makes sense contextually because natural road blocks can only be removed if there are enough people to help remove everything blocking the path. It's pretty common in games for a map to fill itself in as you explore more of the world, but it's also a goal of the characters to have a better understanding of the island and its layout, so creating a detailed map of the island is important to the characters as well, not just a gameplay mechanic. Adol is asked by the characters to make a map, so he's literally drawing it. I played it on Switch, which had significant performance issues, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it so much. I digitally downloaded it from the eShop when it was on sale, but now I really wish I could get a physical copy of the game for PS4. It's looking like it's difficult to find a physical copy of the game.
Just finished the game. It was my first Ys and didn't expect to love it that much, I even fucking shred some tears at some points in the story because I grew so attached so the characters. Really loved it.
@@CommRio yes ! when I was almost done with the game, steam sales were still on so I basically bought origins, I, II and Felghana to start doing them chronologically because I need more Ys in my life now haha :D I watched all your vids about these games and they are great btw
Been a Trails fan since Sky FC first came out in English, but did not really try Ys, because it was repeatedly called by some fans as the Falcom franchise that focuses more on gameplay and less on story, and my interest in Falcom games stemmed entirely from the story side of things. (Gameplay is more than serviceable in Trails, but it never felt particularly special to me) Ys VIII, though, I am strongly tempted to try out. At least when I'm done with this current playthrough of CS IV.
@@ytnukesme1600 Yes I did. I didn't really know that there are other ending. I just found out on reviews online right after I finished the game. Im glad I did all the side quest
One of the best action rpg ever...great story, fantastic gameplay and ost is a masterpiece. Hope ys X will be beautiful as this title. IX was also really good but not as VIII.
Dude, I'll just say it. In a spoiler kinda way, so... This game switched from me enjoying the gameplay and finding the little dream cutscenes cute to... suddenly having two timelines intervowen, and weird mystery... And then the scene when you make it to the temple, and what you actually find there... That's when the game turned from good to "Oh my god what is happening, why is it happening, I must know, I can't stop now." with every new corner I peeked around. That moment when you make it over that mountain. That's some kind of magic to me, like the switch had flipped, and suddenly I was in for such a ride. That let me well overlook the fact that the combat actually has the same problem that Super Eyepatch Wolf talked about in his FF15 video - you can just cram any healing item into your characters in the pause menu, and that alone had me 'win' fights that I shouldn't have while getting absolutely bodied left and right by attacks. I'm grateful for the fact I didn't have to spend half a day on one boss at time (Hello Oath in Felghana...), but yeah, it may not be for everyone. Anyway, I just had to kinda reflect cause oh my god I just finished this game and it was awesome, I'm still thinking about it all. So uhm, don't mind me I guess!
Agreed, this game was 1 of the best game of the last decade. People are to distracted by huge budget and AAA graphics they are too dumb to know a good game if it crawled up their bum and laid eggs... the story-line for each Ys game is worth absorbing, Ys 8 was one of my favorites.
It is unfortunate that the budgets of the bigger games aren't used to make the games better, but to make them a safer investment for the executives that want all the money. I won't ever say Falcom is perfect as a company but they do seem to use their resources to improve their games as much as possible.
@@CommRio bought the one day edition and then bought the special edition (double the price since it sold out on NISA store since I was pretty down on them doing the localization and thought I would never buy it . but I'm still down but no more Xseed I guess) and also Vita version.
Yes tell me why I should play Ys VIII and I will go play it again. I need an excuse to do another playthrough. Unfortunately I only have a VITA but at least its not nothing that would be unbearable.
I wonder how well the Vita version plays. I've heard mixed things about it's framerate and it's missing content that was added into the console and PC versions (I think they were the dungeons that Dana explores beneath the kingdom).
I watched a bunch of your videos and I love them! Probably gonna pick up Ys VIII for the Switch, although I'm not quite sure about the framerate and graphics for that version.
Great video 👍👍, been checking out few games on steam as there's a summer sale going on and stumbled across this one and it looks pretty sick. I have played a few ys games before but they are the old ones and totally different from this, definitely gonna grab this asap. Thanks for the video, it has been very informative for me.
I'm on chapter 6 & this game is legit 1 of the best RPGs I played! The best Falcom game too, Trails is fine but Ys 8 is a superior game to every other Falcom game. It's the only game (outside of Xenoblade 2) that reminded me of the awesome Skies of Arcadia, with its spirit, the setting & the whole thing about discovering locations! One of the coolest things about this game is that it has so many aspects about its gameplay yet it never lingers too much on any of them, it has marvelous pacing. The story is blowing me away too, didn't expect this at all! Looking forward to sering how this game ends, not gonna play Ys 9 anytime soon, I hope it is as good as Ys 8.
It's funny because I used to really love Trails and was slow to start the Ys series because of how much I was into Trails. But after I played the entire Ys series, I just.... I fell completely in love with Ys even more than I did Trails (no hate on Trails though, I still love that series). There's something about Ys games that I thoroughly enjoy.
The "console party system Yses" (as I like to call them in contrast with the handheld party Yses) are taking awhile to click with me. I enjoyed LoD very much, clocking in 60h, clearing all quests, affection events and maps (and all but one fish), but the enemy designs left a little to be desired- I really didn't enjoy the dinosaur enemies because of their HP sponginess and their ability to stunlock you. I also didn't enjoy the parry- the timing was weird for me coming in from Seven and Celceta (whose timing definitely felt different from LoD), and I don't like the lengthy 2 second cooldown. However, I will admit that LoD has the best setting, scenario and systems out of all the Ys games I've played even if I didn't enjoy the combat as much. It was a very pretty island, and they made exploration and talking to the NPCs very satisfying. I do think I'd enjoy LoD more if this was my first Ys, so I'm happy to endorse it as an excellent jumping in point to the series, it just does a few things differently from previous Yses that I can now benchmark against. I'm starting Ys IX and the transition to Ys IX is definitely smoother than my transition to Ys VIII since I'm now more familiar with the parry timing. I really, really appreciate the verticality of IX, it harkens back to my favourite moments of Oath in Felghana. Overall, VIII and IX feel different from Seven and Celceta, but the console party Yses focus on polishing and integrating their respective unique core mechanics into the Ys formula, and that really puts VIII and IX a foot above Seven and Celceta, even if I have a soft spot for Seven and Celceta. They still don't beat Oath in Felghana in my books though.
Seven and Celceta really are different from 8 and 9 in ways that other systems didn’t have within their games. The Napishtim system didn’t ever drastically change but the party system did somewhat, so I understand the adjustment. Hope you continue to enjoy Ys IX
Really liked this game even though Oath in Felghana remains my favorite. My main pet peeves with the game was the somewhat underwhelming bosses and the soundtrack not really standing out or being that memorable, especially compared to past games.
The combat is very button mashy and arcadie but that’s what I love lol, once you get to the boss fights is definitely worth it and the flash guard mechanic def makes the game
For some reason I only ever played the Pokemon and FFVII games. Which is surreal since I did play other games before and after them but only sporadically. I decided to make a wish list and play through all games that seemed interesting. It ended with 20+ games. And now I'm starting to think that FFVII has only been my favorite game so far because I haven't played many other games. Ys 7 might be equal to FFVII but it's Ys VIII that is sersiouly challenging FFVII's top spot as my all time favorite game. It actually is better, it's just my FFVII pride that makes me refuse to accept it. Ocotopath Traveler might be better than FFVII too. Can't wait to play through the other games too and see on what kind of gems and masterpieces I have missed out on. But I'm in no hurry to finish Ys VIII as fast as possible. Because people definitely didn't exaggerate when they told me how great this game is.
Absolutely, so Ys 8 uses the party system gameplay, so I would advise another party system game. The options are Ys SEVEN which began the system not as polished but still solid available on PC and PSP. Then Memories of Celceta the game before Ys 8 which is closer to 8 in terms of polish in gameplay available on PC, PS4, and Vita. Finally there's the most recent game Ys IX Monstrum Nox which is likely the closest to Ys 8 in terms of gameplay and story depth. Monstrum Nox is only available on PS4 right now but it's coming to Switch and PC in July.
Ok ok fine, this game is amazing in almost all it does... "Almost". The world building that they have amazingly and meticulously done in all of the past titles and connected the titles was pretty much yeeted out the window. Which is my biggest gripe with this game. I loved this series because of the world building and now its gone...
So I've seen people saying that but I always viewed the ending as being isolated to the Isle of Seiren with the changes. Basically the events just allowed the world to continue for another cycle and didn't reset anything that had previously happened, just took away the memories of it from most of the castaways.
Great game. I'd give it 9/10. Its 2 biggest faults imo are... 1. The map is absolute ass and usually not very helpful. 2. I think the game needed 1-2 more party members. With at one or both joining in chapter 2.
Congratulations on being caught up with Ys! This was certainly my favorite of the series, so its nice to see that you also had a great time with it. I'm so eagerly awaiting the release of Ys 9 that I finally started to play Trails in the Sky while I wait for it. Out of interest, Who were your favorite party members in Ys 8 to play as?
Hmmm favorite party members is hard, I pretty much liked controlling everyone other than Sahad. Forced to choose it would probably go Adol, Dana, Ricotta, Laxia, Hummel Then Sahad. Enjoy Trails in the Sky!
Why you should play Ys 8: A blue haired magical dragon girl from dinosaur times with two wives kills the existential concept of evolution and becomes a God. Which is such a fucking ludicrous main plot that you'll forget all about the GHOST PIRATE SHIP.
does ys 8 have a random difficulty Spike or is it just me? Once I got to the northern region with all the dino's I lost desire to try and fight each enemy I see around my level. Those lvl 39 raptors are just so tanky and hit so hard...
I didn't find a random difficulty spike, but there are some areas you have access to, but they place high level enemies in to discourage you going through there yet. Maybe you encountered that
@@CommRio no I'm 37 the raptors are 39. There is some higher lvl stuff there but I'm not even talking about those I was on the field heading to the capital ruins
@@CommRio my only assumption is it's bc they are considered a medium size enemy as I've found gigantysaurs that are lvl 42 and huge and way more tanky. Also is Dana better than adol skill/combo wise?
I need help. Whenever I play, my mouse is very sensitive. Dunno if it is the mouse acceleration or what, i move my mouse a little bit and my char can turn more than 180. It makes it very hard to play the game. Smooth but very sensitive. How do I make it back to normal?
I know the game has controller sensitivity under settings but I'm unsure about mouse sensitivity. If there's no in game option to help you than there are two options I see: one play with a controller if you have one, or two turn down the mouse sensitivity on your computer.
Oh man i started to play this game with low spectations , and skiped the whole story because to much dialogue and im on chapter 3 and im loving the game still without knowing the story
I just bought it. Chapter 2.. like it so far, but its not blowing my fucking mind or anything. Hopefully that changes. I'll keep you guys posted if I remember.
One of the best games I ever played. I played it on my Switch and it is much better than Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles combines. You ask why. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 story is really good yet that is all it has going for it. Ys Vii Lacrimosa of Dana has everything I like from Zelda games adventure, story, scenery, music, simple to play difficult to master combat, puzzles, and so forth. Although it is also unique, first time I played a game that is team based that is not turn based. Why is it better than Mario Odyssey you ask? Mario is missing an element I cannot put my finger on, I loved Mario 64 as a boy then tried Mario Sunshine and was disappointed. Should I try Mario Galaxy? I thought Mario Odyssey was going to be good like Mario 64 but it felt like Sunshine and was disappointed again. However for platformers Spyro The Dragon is my most favorite game.
Favorite game list: Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Ys Viii Lacrimosa of Dana Starcraft The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword (with motion controls) Ys IX Monstrum Nox TheLordOfTheRingsBattleForMiddleEarthRiseOfTheWitchKing (spaces removed) Age Of Empires 3 The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker Starcraft 2 Civilization 5 Horizon Zero Dawn Northgard The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening The Legend of Zelda Majora Mask Fallout 4 Spyro The Dragon ............ Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (tutorial is far to long it is like taking a class just to know how to play).
Man, I only played the re-done III on PC for a bit - one boss at some point was just a brick wall for me and I couldn't get past it, but up to that point it was really enjoyable - a far cry from what I've seen in reviews of the games on older consoles where you just bump into things at an angle. I wasn't ready for that kind of difficulty, might have to give it another try. And they even released a new one earlier in 2021? The way they're going, they might overtake Final Fantasy in terms of numbered entries.
“Easy to understand map” 😂😂😂 I love the “Ys” series, and I’m enjoying the gameplay of “Ys VIII”, but holy crap those maps suck! I get lost so easy and it can be frustrating getting to where I need to be. I’m still early in the game, hopefully it gets better.
Hey if it's that big a sticking point you don't have to play it. The game is originally a Vita game so that's likely why it feels outdated even by Falcom standards (who are a small studio and are never close to cutting-edge graphics). It is a fun game though so if you can look past the graphics then you may be in for a good time.
Good game but I'm not a huge fan of Ys Party games, and the rock-paper-scissors mechanic work against the idea of a party with special strengths in the first place, why does it matter if Hummel can use a gun when it can only be used on a certain type of enemy? Sahad is really strong but to offset this he's slow an-oh wait, he's designed for armoured enemies...so why is he so slow? And yet again we're still able to ignore almost every enemy's offense with the ludicrously overpowered Flash Guard and Flash Dodge, effectively making every boss fight the same. Compared to Origin where you have to actually fight bosses and each chracter's inherent gameplay strength affects how you approach combat on every single enemy for their respective playthroughs (and not spam skills because normal attacks are weak). Not to mention how floaty the combat feels even in comparison to Celceta, overall it's still fun but man, don't know if I'll be replaying any time soon. (especially since it was super long and Dana's sections dragged for me) I'd say they should remove parties and flash and all that but we already know they didn't, so I guess this is the new Ys template now. But everyone absolutely loves this game, so overall I guess it's for the best, I'll just stick to older games while everyone has fun.
I do hope that at some point they take a look at all the good the Napishtim system games like Origin had and try and incorporate those aspects into modern Ys games. I agree with your points and understand them for now they're enjoyable, but the time may come where parties and flash moves/guards need to be adjusted or left behind.
I've tried it few hours but didn't like it. I think it could be better on Vita, but on PS4 it's so ugly and what push you to discover an island ? Good landscape probably. When a character say "wow it's so beautiful" and you just see some pixels.. I know it was the same for trails but it was (already ridiculous) more plot oriented. The artistic direction is awful too. And I really dislike the first characters appearing like the blonde girl who act like a your random tsundere. I think it's difficult for me now to accept cliche that big. I do want to know the feeling that lot of people had on this game, but it doesn't cling with me. The gameplay seems good tho and even if it's a lot in a Action RPG, I dunno if i can go through a game with characters like that and a environment that don't interest me :(
I will say the game doesn't necessarily step its best foot forward, especially with Laxia and Adol meeting. But hey if the game ain't clicking that's just how it goes sometimes, and given the amount of JRPG's I've know you've played I can't blame you for being tired of some of the cliches.
@@CommRio Haha yeah but it's sad when you can't go with something that everbody is liking. Maybe not in genre that I do not really like from the start but I do love Jrpg haha. I've been playing video games since the mid 1980's and Ys 8 is one of the most fun and amazing video games I've ever played.
Enjoy!
Your voice quality, video cutscene choices, and thoroughness of the game's development throughout the years deserve a thousand likes (if I could). This is a high-quality review that deserves more subscribers. Please do more reviews for other games! Kudos to you.
Thank you, it is unfortunate that you are limited to one like but I appreciate it along with the comment.
Man, the soundtrack in this game is godly.
I mean, the music from this series is great since Book 1, But Ys 8 knocks it out of the park.
Sunshine Coastline, Iclucian Dance, and A-TO-Z are some of my favorite tracks in any piece of media.
The soundtrack has definitely been in the background while I've been cooking several times since I completed the game.
Yessss I’ve been waiting for this! So glad you liked it!!
I did not know you could upgrade your camp defenses at first and I almost quit the game because of the raids. Luckily I figured that out and was able to finish one of my favorite games ever. Cannot wait for IX!
Oh wow that would certainly make those later raids a challenge.
I really am looking forward to IX, I'm hopeful it'll be quite good.
I started playing this yesterday, never played an rpg , but I'm addicted alright 8 hours in.
That's amazing, hope you continue to have a great time with it
Good review thanks! Not normally into JRPGs, but this may be the exception. And if anyone reads this in the next few days, is on Steam sale right now.
I very much hope you enjoy and yes even if people miss this sale Ys 8 goes on sale fairly often and is a great purchase at the price
Just finished the game. It was my first Ys and didn't expect to love it that much, I even fucking shred some tears at some points in the story because I grew so attached so the characters. Really loved it.
Very nice! Are you planning on continuing on in the series?
@@CommRio yes ! when I was almost done with the game, steam sales were still on so I basically bought origins, I, II and Felghana to start doing them chronologically because I need more Ys in my life now haha :D
I watched all your vids about these games and they are great btw
Been a Trails fan since Sky FC first came out in English, but did not really try Ys, because it was repeatedly called by some fans as the Falcom franchise that focuses more on gameplay and less on story, and my interest in Falcom games stemmed entirely from the story side of things. (Gameplay is more than serviceable in Trails, but it never felt particularly special to me)
Ys VIII, though, I am strongly tempted to try out. At least when I'm done with this current playthrough of CS IV.
Ys VIII is definitely the best transition game between Trails and Ys in my opinion. If you do pick it up I hope you enjoy it.
@@CommRio Thank you! I think I most likely will pick it up. And this video has helped.
Oh yeah
Played this soon after CS IV
And I sure am glad I did
What a ride this game was
The ending gave me depression. One of the best rpg games I played
did you get the true ending? if you loved the game so much you didn't neglect any side stuff then most likely yes.
@@ytnukesme1600 Yes I did. I didn't really know that there are other ending. I just found out on reviews online right after I finished the game. Im glad I did all the side quest
Great review man
Thanks!
This game makes you want to 100% it easily
I have never played a better game in my life, seriously, i felt sad finishing it.
So uhm, don't mind me I guess!
hahaha that's exactly the same experience I had.
Played the PS4 version (own 3 version of the game on sony platforms) but also replayed it on steam before IX (which I just finished on PS4)
3 versions on Sony platforms? But it's only on two platforms, how did you do that? Physical and digital?
@@CommRio bought the one day edition and then bought the special edition (double the price since it sold out on NISA store since I was pretty down on them doing the localization and thought I would never buy it . but I'm still down but no more Xseed I guess) and also Vita version.
Yes tell me why I should play Ys VIII and I will go play it again. I need an excuse to do another playthrough. Unfortunately I only have a VITA but at least its not nothing that would be unbearable.
Do it!
Aw dude! Get the PC or Switch versions! don't deny yourself the extra gameplay features.
This was probably biggest suprise for me in recent years, game was really great and addicting. I only wish for higher budget with better graphics.
Fantastic video
Thank you
I love YS VIII, bought the PS5 Limited Ed., have the Switch and PS4 physical copies and will get PC and Vita copies soon.
That is quite a few copies. Would you get more if they ported to Xbox then?
@@CommRio hell yes 😅, planning to get a Japan import of Vita since it has a special edition.
I have heard mixed things about the Switch port, so I hope the framerate and graphics don't present problems, but best of luck!
Great video 👍👍, been checking out few games on steam as there's a summer sale going on and stumbled across this one and it looks pretty sick. I have played a few ys games before but they are the old ones and totally different from this, definitely gonna grab this asap. Thanks for the video, it has been very informative for me.
Glad to help and that you're going to give it a try. Hope you enjoy!
Sadly the psvita didn't have the extra content, but nevertheless, one of the best ARPG that Falcom had come up with
Yes to both
I'm on chapter 6 & this game is legit 1 of the best RPGs I played!
The Skies of Arcadia comparison isn't one I'd thought of (mainly cause I played it after playing Ys VIII), but glad you're enjoying it so far
Ys VIII is one of the 10 best games of all time.
I've only finished 8 , can I ask you which ys games I should play next?
@@CommRio Wish I could say the same... It all just feels wrong to me.
@@TheBeardenedBear Ah well glad you enjoyed almost everything about the game
@@CommRio LOL. Thanks
The game is fantastic. Goes well with mhgu
Ys 8 is great because Dana herself. Best heroine in Ys series.
Forced to choose it would probably go Adol, Dana, Ricotta, Laxia, Hummel
Then Sahad.
Enjoy Trails in the Sky!
Why you should play Ys 8:
A blue haired magical dragon girl from dinosaur times with two wives kills the existential concept of evolution and becomes a God. Which is such a fucking ludicrous main plot that you'll forget all about the GHOST PIRATE SHIP.
Well i will get it today, so lets see how good this game actually is.
does ys 8 have a random difficulty Spike or is it just me?
@@xerodragon21 I wouldn't say she's better, I think she's really good and I enjoyed using her but Adol's balance tends to work in his favor
@@CommRio his balance? Also I assume she can only use her stances in the past which is a pity
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FANTASTIC REVIEW
Hope you continue to at least like it, I do think the story has good build up but the payoff takes some time.
@@CommRio i watched gurren lagann and that had the most amazing payoff with a slow build. I'll do it :P

Might be a little while before X so I don't reckon they'll catch Final Fantasy any time soon
what about ys9?
You should play that too
We already have ys10 lol they come out much faster now
“Easy to understand map” 😂😂😂 I love the “Ys” series, and I’m enjoying the gameplay of “Ys VIII”, but holy crap those maps suck! I get lost so easy and it can be frustrating getting to where I need to be. I’m still early in the game, hopefully it gets better.
I’ve heard so many good things about this game from both fans and critics but I’m simply having a hard time looking pass the ps2 looking graphics.
(especially since it was super long and Dana's sections dragged for me)
I'd say they should remove parties and flash and all that but we already know they didn't, so I guess this is the new Ys template now.
💟 JRPGs 💟
Even more when a great part of my problem is because of the visuals (it's pretty rare).
I don't want to retry soon, but one day I will, because the gameplay seems so cool.
