It's really sad that our country is so vain and perceived perfection has gone way overboard. I see the young women who start with plastic surgery...more...more...more...more..then they end up so far from their own natural beauty. When will it stop? Plus it ages after so much. Sad to me. Their self image is so low.
Me neither! I’m genuinely not interested in what they do . I follow influencers that I like on UA-cam and Instagram. For some reason I got bored of Kyle et all.
@@JackieOgleit’s happening all over, not just the US. For example, in South Korea kpop stars are the same status as celebs in the US and they’re constantly campaigning for brands and products. It’s marketing that works because people aspire to live lives like them
I feel like the younger you are AND the more you live your life online, the more this pressure is real…. But outside of that, while there is still like, ambient pressure from trends or whatever, the reality is if you’re not a 100% slave to trends, what’s the consequence? Out there in real life literally no one will care. So I hope more people realise that this year, and/or style themselves for themselves, in real life, and not a tiktok algorithm.
Lash extensions. Like the filler people don't know when to stop. The first set usually looks good but the it seems every time after the first application the density and length multiplies and it starts to look ridiculous.
Humans always go overboard, they started ig makeup with one shade lighter concealer under the eyes, now they're using 10 shades lighter, in fact i saw pure White once
Personally I’d just like “algorithmic” beauty to die. Like you said, this specific face and specific trends (like clean girl) have been shoved down our throats to the point where there’s no individuality. I’d love it if we could celebrate individual beauty and empower people to try different things but also to find what looks best on them. And just to appreciate all faces. But that doesn’t sell and can’t really go viral…so that will not happen LOL.
Thank you! If I see one person on social media, then I’ve already I’ve seen them all. It’s getting creepy, they all are doing everything they can to look the same, it’s giving creepy clone vibes. I love seeing people with unique faces, quirky makeup and their own style!
I looked "clean girl" it was basically a repackaging of no makeup makeup which is repackaging for what normal people do anyway. It shows people's individual features more than IG baddie makeup. I wish the trend of naming old concepts with new names so that companies can profit would die though. Been watching videos about how launches are behind when some word on tiktok starts trending in makeup. N
My wish would be for the concept of "trends" and rules to go away. I'm so sick and tired of all the unwritten rules when it comes to beauty.. and I'm sick of everybody looking the same.
@ale.ksandra I don't follow trends.. but they often make it very hard for me to find clothes and stuff. Even if I don't follow the trends, I want them to go away. People get burned out and burned self-esteem.
I’ve been wearing hot pink blush since before the trend started, and I’ll keep wearing it after it’s over! It just looks good on my skin tone. Corals and browns look fine, but I just always go back to pinks. I stick with what works for me. If I’m on trend, great, if not I don’t really care. I’m in my 50’s though. I’m just trying to look presentable at this point 😂
I love hot pink blush! I just discovered it last year thanks to the trend, and I was shocked by how flattering it looked on me. I’m 36 and I’ll be wearing hot pink blush forever!
I literally never follow trends - ever. First off it's expensive constantly changing up products/clothes/etc and second, as you said Abby, we all don't have the same look! We're uniquely beautiful and have different features we want to show off. I do what makes me feel good or what works for my skin tone and face in general. I wish most women did that too, I think we'd all feel more confident in ourselves rather than compare to what others do. We're all beautiful!!
Exactly. It's too exhausting trying to keep up with this. I find bits of something I may wanna try, but as long as I look fresh and ...human most days.....it's a score
I’m sick of seeing lip fillers everywhere I go. It looks fine when you have makeup on, but bare faced is another story. I think it makes everyone look the same too.
I just see SOOO many with the filler migrating into their facial skin! It's probably too much for their lips or a bad injector. It's supposed to look natural..and people have just went wild!
Yes, lots of overdone filler out there. Lip flips aren’t a great alternative though. Most people really don’t get the results they’d want, and it wears off SUPER fast since we move our mouths all the time. I can go 5-6 months before getting my Botox retouched, but my lip flip barely lasted a month. I don’t have time to maintain that.
Makeup without mascara can be a necessity for those of us who have dry eyes or other eye issues. We’re doing the best we can with the rest of our makeup. Love your videos, Abbey - thanks for all your research and hard work!
Yes! I don't use mascara 90% of the time. I have two issues with mascara. One is that almost all drugstore mascara irritates my eyes, and I am not about to spend 25€ on a high end mascara. Another thing is that I have long full lashes naturally, so If I use mascara with a natural face of makeup I look like I have falsies and it feels like too much for everyday use. If I want to use mascara on a normal day I have to barely coat my lashes. I usually just curl my lashes and brush them with a spooly
I have never really liked how mascara looks on me, so I almost never wear it. An Ulta sales rep once told me that I don't really have a face for makeup, and I agree with him! I don't look good in full glam makeup at all. I look like I am trying too hard and it doesn't look effortless no matter what I do. Minimal looking makeup was made for someone with my kind of face I guess and I am totally cool with that although I appreciate a full glam look on other people. Plus, mascara always smudges on me or I have dry eyes and I have to use eye drops and then it gets messy. I think falsies or thick mascara look so pretty on just about everyone else and I would never criticize how they do their makeup, so sometimes it's a little annoying when people act like EVERYONE should wear mascara/liner/whatever, because not everyone's face is well suited to every type of makeup or every style.
Let this be the year of finding what works for YOU and confidently leaving the rest behind. Trends are so great for inspiration and fresh ideas, but not everything is for you!
What I find crazy is that anyone in their 20’s is getting filler or Botox! I’m 38 and just see how much it ages them! This also goes for people in their 30’s! A tinny bit in your 40’s I can see as acceptable but my goodness, these young girls look old and plastic. Jennifer Lawrence at the Golden Globes is a perfect example … Why did she get filler?! She made herself look so much older.
I completely agree! Always thought the same. Kylie Jenner is another perfect example...her face has become overfilled and not youthful looking anymore. I noticed it with Jennifer in her latest Netflix movie...she looked different and couldnt pin point it at first then realized what it was.
I agree about these women touching their faces and suddenly looking older.. BUT I think we need to also recognize that having a baby does that to you too. Instantly. I’ve seen it with my friends and every celeb who had a baby looks much older in the space of months. Somehow the glow is gone.
Overdone filler can absolutely stretch the skin & cause a person to look older but botox can be preventative. It's not always best to wait until a person gets wrinkles before getting botox, it's actually recommended to get a little bit to prevent the wrinkles before they come. Of course, nothing is for everyone but if a person is trying to avoid wrinkles or delay aging, botox can be a great resource
One thing I would love to see change as a hairstylist is more layers around the face like we were doing in the 90's. I'm sooo over middle parts, ash and platinum blonde, "the money piece" look, long long extensions, and layers only at the bottom of the hair. Lets bring back browns, auburns, bangs, collar bone length looks and highlights all the way to the scalp. Trends that actually make someone look fresh!
Yes!!! Watching tv shows / movies everyone has the same hairstyle with curling wand curls at the bottom. I am loving seeing big 90s blowout looks coming in, bangs too. Also really cute shorter cuts from collar bone to bob to pixie and shag.
the thing about french girl makeup is not about looking good effortless, it’s about actually not putting a lot of makeup and not caring about fixing the “imperfections” of our face. it’s about embracing ourselfs as we are and just putting a little bit of eyeliner or lipstick bc it’s fun period
Contouring the nose is an interesting trend and I’ve seen lots of people going overboard with the contouring lately; to the point where the nose just looks brown. It pulls the focus to the nose instead of the rest of the face. 🙊
I went without mascara for the last year and a half, and my lashes are insane. I’ll use mascara once in a while, and when I do, my lashes are so long and thick. I didn’t realize how wearing mascara so often was ruining my lashes. They were fine to begin with so I never noticed anything wrong.
I've thought this, I've been trying to remove my msscara gently and immediately after an event since realising. I noticed when i get home, i rub my eyes etc because I'm not going out anymore and i don't care about my makeup anymore
I think that as with all cosmetic procedures, face filler can be used subtly and look amazing, and unless the person told you they got filler, you would never know. Then there are people who go too far with it, get themselves into uncanny valley territory, and who can't see what's wrong as a result of dysmorphia as you stated.
People look like they’ve had an allergic reaction the shellfish. That and “monkey mouth”, where there’s so much filler in the upper lip their entire mouth juts out like an ape. I wish women knew how beautiful their unique beauty is! There’s nothing wrong with getting something done if they really want it, but everyone has gone way too far- and they all want to look exactly the same.😳 Can’t we bring back unique, individual beauty?
Thanks for addressing the lips! 😂 I’ve felt like a crazy person seeing all these lips wondering if somethings wrong with me for hating it. Same with the insane face fillers!
I skipped most of these trends, and now they’re probably going “out of style” anyway. Everyone should just do what they like! And something that I’d love to see less of is lip filler. I always try to look at reviews of lip products, but I’d love to see how they look on natural lips. Having a thinner upper lip is okay and still beautiful! Everyone is beautiful in their own way
I totally agree with the no mascara + full face of makeup thing. I’ve been doing this for years, but purely because I think mascara looks horrible on me and I hate how it feels
Same! I'm a redhead and it looks so harsh imo, if I do mascara I only do brown. I'm fully enjoying the renaissance of 2014 with the runway style makeup and zero mascara, it looks really ethereal.
I love it too because otherwise I have to fight with my stubborn straight lashes and that's a no. I'm not willing to spend that much time fighting them. They also make me feel weird because they're sooo feminine. So... idk. Ethereal forever for me 😅
I never hear people talk about that Lancôme concealer, it’s my holy grail. I love seeing someone recommend things that aren’t as talked about online. You have so many hidden gems!
Lancôme concealers are amazing.I’ve been using ( Effecernes / Teint Idole under eye and face) since the late 80’s. I’ve tried many others, but I always go back to Lancôme.
Thank you for this video! I absolutely can relate to your rant, and I often catch myself feeling bad because I don't look like that, or because trends (or even just regular things) don't look good on me. I feel less alone on this now, thank you, Abbey.
Love this. Agreed with all of them, especially being over the clean girl aesthetic. I’m ready for an elevated 2016 vibe! Makeup more for having fun and chatting with other women about it- versus makeup more for what men want. Also, “tweakments” overly normalized. I’m 40 and decided to never get anything done and I’m excited to battle the hate of aging in our culture! 🎉
I just turned 40 and have dealt with countless age-hating comments. It's ridiculous. Like, I dont consider myself beautiful at all, but look at my skin! Even I can say my skin looks good! And I've had no "tweakments" done. Age is a gift not granted to everyone. Let's embrace the multi level beauty that exists in aging.
I have loved lip/cheek stains since i started wearing makeup in like 2008! Unfortunately, they go in and out of style and are therefore sometimes harder to find. 😅
Yes please do more fragrance videos! I like your seasonal fragrance video ideas but I’d also be so keen to see you do a full fragrance collection video 🤩
I would absolutely buy it if you came out with a heatless curling accessory. I never curl my hair with heat because I burned myself pretty bad many years ago (on the face, fortunately the scar eventually faded but it took about ten years to be invisible) and so I’m all about the heatless curls…but do agree that sometimes they just look wonky and I’d love to see what you would come up with to help with that!
Not every trend or makeup look, looks good on everyone. We have to do what looks good on us ☺️ i cant wear black mascara anymore for some reason. It looks so harsh on me. Brown looks so flattering. On someone else it might be a total different story
I love the no mascara look, it's such a pain to get off and if you have light hair and skin then black mascara doesn't blend with your face very well. It's a very soft look.
Really appreciate the big sister speech haha - I was very surprised to hear that you’ve felt that way because you always appear very put together and confident. And I’m sorry you did - SO many of us can relate to those feelings!! It helps to hear others’ experiences!
While I agree that people can do what they want with cosmetic procedures, I do worry about what this does to the already problematic consumption of media and body image influences. I am a 90s kid and I feel like pendulum started to swing to body positivity and ‘all bodies are good bodies’ but lately I have seen loads of alterations like the big lips, super thin models and idealization for thinness, fear of aging in young kids, etc. it is frightening to see it all going backwards and then some. I work with kids for a living and the sheer amount of crisis we’re currently experiencing is insane. I worry for these kids.
There was no all bodies are good bodies. Skinny everyday people started weight gain diets, gyms/bbl surgery, It became normal to insult skinny girls (movements always become this, bully people who look like your past bullies/ who were celebrated) And the inclusive virtue signalling shows just forgot skinny models entirely. As they showed "real bodies", "real women". Humans don't know what moderation is, they never will.
I don't care about what people want to do cosmetic procedure-wise, intense filter on social media-wise, photoshop, anything at all, but I do have issues with people denying it. I understand why they do, but I think it's very problematic 😔
I love that you brought up how not every trend suits everyone. I feel like you kind of touch on this a lot on your channel when you say that just because you love a product doesn’t mean that it’s for everyone and viceversa. And I think that’s the beauty of it, really: how we all have individual features that look good with different styles and colors.
Also, for anyone struggling to find things that look good on you, I highly recommend looking up what your season is. This will make finding makeup and clothes that suit you soooo much easier. And it’s made me realize that, like Abbey was saying, something not looking good on you doesn’t take away from your beauty. It simply means it doesn’t suit you, and that’s okay.
I love your thoughtful and inclusive content! I would love to see people start to embrace their natural features and have fun using makeup to enhance what they were born with. Like you were saying about your own eyebrows, if you weren’t born with large eyebrows microblading or drawing large ones on probably isn’t going to look great and same goes for lips.
I hope people who loved the 2023 trends and found techniques that worked for them and their face don't feel pressured to let things go because it's not "on trend" or they're afraid of looking outdated. Clean Girl Makeup (I really hate that term, fuck being a clean girl I want to be a messy woman) was actually nice for me because I prefer a more minimal look and the marketing push meant there were suddenly a zillion products that would not have existed for me otherwise. I know the pendulum is going to swing back to heavily pigmented looks that don't suit me but I'll still be here with my lip tints and my light coverage base products living my best life. 💖
Love this 🥰 I wear “clean girl” too. It’s just minimal/very natural makeup?? Like what’s wrong with that? 😂 Agree that more amazing products have come out because of it too.
I am in complete agreement about the whole “natural look” thing and in extension, the no mascara with a full face of makeup. Let’s face it. Makeup is makeup so you’re deliberately putting effort into enhancing your features so if I’m putting in the effort then it’s so nice to see the finished efforts! And yes, there’s a difference between seeing the makeup on your face vs being “made up”. An example of this “you have to look as natural as possible that I hated was the Jones Road What The Foundation. Why would I spend the $$ on this product, manipulate and use it so that you can’t tell you’re wearing foundation? And again, you shouldn’t “see” the foundation itself but there’s a reason why we’re putting in the effort! Madness! Live your videos Abbey!
I love no mascara! I think it just depends on your eye shape, coloring, and ofc personal preference. Black mascara looks harsh on me and weighs down my eyes. The most mascara I ever wear is a brown mascara primer on the outer corners, even tho I love eyeliner/a smokey eye. And no mascara can look editorial. Love your videos!
My lip flip totally freaked me out!!!! Number 1: I couldn’t even see a difference! AND I couldn’t operate! I would slurp out of a straw and felt like my words came out funny because I truly couldn’t feel my upper lip!! Now I know!!! SO glad it wore off after a few months!!
I do full face and no mascara often, because i hate taking mascara off and sometimes, i know i have to be somewhere for not a lot of hours or i will be wearing computer glasses, so I dont see the point of wearing mascara sometimes.
I’m sick of clean girl too lol I look sick when I try 😂 I need the liquid liner with a wing. Out of all the looks I’ve tired, that one just suits me and makes my eyes look bigger so…ima do it 😅
If I could keep one makeup product it would be mascara. I would more than love to see people like the Kardashians stop lying about not getting plastic surgery and their heavily photoshopped pictures. It kills the self esteem of young girls and women and I'm sure they know that. On a much less critical note, I'd also more than love to see textured and curly hair be embraced a lot more and straight hair not being the main staple of beauty. A vast majority of the population has curly hair (generally speaking).
Hey abbey! Love the video… and for any followers who have questions about this topic, I’ll try to explain. I am NOT medical. I’m not a nurse or a doctor or anything in the field. I’m an almost cosmetologist haha. I’m in school finishing up and a former sales rep. Lol so this is not medical advice or anything of the like. Haha So the lip flip Botox (neurotoxin)… I’ve had it many times but also have gone without many times (when getting it done in other areas). Here’s my thoughts… when it first kicks in it does give a little bit of a funny feeling when drinking from a straw, or making that type of motion in general. It has never kept me from being able to drink from a straw or impacted my life negatively in any way. It can give great, very pretty results. Especially for people who have a strong muscle that pulls the upper lip under when smiling (also leading to a gummy smile for some people). My only reason for not getting it the last few times has been A) it costs extra where I am going now. The place I used to go to would just throw it in without charging for it when I’d pay for other areas. B) it wears off relatively quickly in my experience. This is due to the mouth being a highly mobile area. We are all constantly talking, chewing, drinking, etc. which is known to make neurotoxins wear off faster… at least that’s what I’ve been told by my injectors in the past. Just some things to think about if getting it done. What I think it’s fantastic for…. A big event! Getting it done like 2 weeks to be safe, prior to an event, wedding, professional pictures, etc… great idea 😊 it will have time to fully kick in and will allow for great pictures and give a little boost of confidence maybe :) (not that anyone needs any of this to be pretty or confident) I just know personally it has been nice for pics at times. Words of caution: early on when this first became popular years ago, I tried it for the first time… the injector had just learned this method and accidentally got it confused with the location you would inject for “smokers lines” the lines you can get from not only smoking but just from aging in general or genetics that run vertically from your lips upwards. This caused my entire upper lip to relax which helped with it. But, i felt it gave an unnatural look for me when smiling and in pictures. So, make sure if you want this done they know where to inject! I believe the proper location is directly to the two points of the cupids bow. I’ll attach a picture for the proper places you can inject for a “flipped” or lifted upper lip look. This is NOT filler. Which Botox and other neurotoxins are commonly confused with. People see an overly filled face sometimes with too much volume (not done properly) and think that it’s Botox and that’s what will happen to them if they get it done. Botox, dysport, xeomin and many others are neurotoxins that temporarily “paralyze” for lack of a better term, the muscle or nerves (I’m not really sure the exact mechanism behind the way it works in the body)… that’s being injected so it allows for it to relax the movement in the area. You can get varying degrees of movement or lack of depending on the dose your injector uses. The more they use, the less movement. If you’re afraid of the “frozen” look or feeling, you can use less. My general rule of thumb is the only inject Botox or neurotoxins crows feet and above (and the occasional lip flip) and then other parts of the face below that would be more lost volume which filler could fix. Filler “fills” Sorry for the super super longwinded comment from a random person not in the medical aesthetic field haha! But, I love all the things in this area so I do a lot of research to learn more.
I look like a total weirdo when I have a make-up on and I skip mascara. Also the glass skin trend, in my opinion it’s not achievable IRL. it only looks good on Instagram with filters. I haven’t seen a single person on the street, on the train in the shopping centre wherever looking like this. I saw that some women were trying but they just end up looking greasy🤷♀️
ive also noticed NO ONE has glass skin irl! the closest thing ive seen is people who dont have acne or scarring but thats literally just having clear skin lmao
Hey Abbey, I have a question about using heat protection for dry styling. How would you suggest I appropriately use heat protection when styling my air-dried hair, and do you have any specific suggestions for products that might work? Typically, I will only use heat if I slightly straighten my hair. I don’t even really do my whole head, but rather the pieces that frame my face and baby hairs. Most heat protectors recommend applying it to damp hair, but since I am not using heat to actually dry my hair, what is the best way to protect it still? Any help you could give me would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!! Love your channel and overall content!
I watched a Instagram reel once, where a girl (can't remember her name right now) went to France and she said she fell in love with the makeup everyone was wearing there, she bought some at their local pharmacy/drugstore and she basically said it looks like makeup but it's meant to be skincare, so maybe that's what they mean by French girl makeup. Also love your content❤️
My sister and I were listening to this video on our road trip home & we’re like “yes!!!” to everything. We both were saying how we felt so unattractive trying those popular trends but it just doesn’t suit our face / hair. Doesn’t mean we can’t have our own beauty!
Please do not think you are unattractive compared to ANYONE! They are plastic for goodness sake. I bet neither you nor your sister think the other of you is unattractive. Find your beauty through other women who look like you. Use face mapping and Kibbe. Or just do like the older generation before social media and just know that you are unique, beautiful and wonderfully made. ❤️
I am so addicted to lip stain. I’ve been obsessed with an oldie but a goodie, the Revlon colorstay matte stain and moisturizing lip stain. Mainly use the Reds and Plums. I feel so confident with the stain on my lips. Also into fragrance layering, using vanilla and coconut scents a ton. In the spring will layer with jasmine, gardenia or peony in the spring. Plus Sol de Janeiro with anything! I don’t know what the hair trend is, but I just did a drastic money piece to help my silvers framing my face blend with my dark hair. Idc if it’s not in, I love it.
Everything you said around 17:10 really resonated with me, I feel like we all get stuck thinking that we have to follow these trends and when they don’t suit us, we believe we’re the problem 😢 I don’t see many models or actresses that look like me anymore and I’m noticing people getting rid of the features that make me look like myself, and I’m afraid if I could afford those procedures and treatments I would do it too 🙁 There’s a lot of damage to be undone and I hope 2024 is the year us women can heal from this ❤
Perfume layering … I was not aware it was a thing! Thank you SO MUCH for the great idea!! I’m a VANILLA gal too can’t wait to mix it up! Love your channel ❤… all the way from Ottawa, Canada 🇨🇦
I’ve been getting a lip flip for years and absolutely love it! I had no top lip without it. That gummy smile. I think it all depends on your injector!! I can drink through a straw and do all the things just fine!! All the horror stories come from bad injectors in my opinion. Either too much or bad placement. If you trust your person, why don’t give it a try! It only lasts few months so if you don’t like it, you just don’t have to get it again. I love my top lip now ;)
Hey! I’ve gotten a lip flip twice but found it didn’t really change much for me. Whereabouts did you get the botox injected? My injector placed mine at the border of my top lip, while a friend had hers much higher up her philtrum and had great results
I've been feeling really insecure about volume loss in my lips because it took me far too long to realize that EVERYONE is getting filler. I genuinely thought my lips were abnormal and inadequate.. and then age hit- I'm 35 as of November; collagen production is slowing down. My lips are smaller, and I've never really felt insecure about my face before. I find myself trying to compensate in other ways . . Like those women in their 40s that are "trying too hard".. and that's not to mention my eyes are getting a little hollow on the underside + I am getting a *tiny* bit jowel-y. Dr Idress says it hits women in their 30s suddenly like that, but legitimately if I just knew that lip filler alone was so common, this would have been so much easier for me. And tbh I still don't know if other stuff like that is common; I feel very naive. I don't even know if its expensive, or how often one needs fillers or collagen boosting procedures to maintain the look.. Please, someone fill me in 🤦♀️ (no pun intended, but that's perfect, so I'm leaving it 😂)
Hi, I'm almost 40 and have been getting Botox in my forehead, and under each eyebrow arch (to prevent the forehead Botox from causing any eye droop) since I was about 33. I get it done every three to four months, and it's about $285-ish each time. I inquired about lip filler recently, and my Dr. said it would be around $600 or so. Some people's results last 6 months, some people less, some longer. Just depends on how an individual's body metabolizes the filler. And I too have noticed my eyes becoming more hollow, thinning of my upper lip, jowls, etc. It's wild how it feels like it happened overnight!
Abbey, thank you so much for doing this video! We need more encouragement from influencers to love who we are and to stop following so many ridiculous trends. I couldn’t agree with you more on not fitting in to this “kardashian look” it’s not healthy for women, especially younger women to think that this is what our standard of beauty is.
Agree with you….on everything in this video! That said, heatless curls still work for me as I wear them while I work out on the morning - never overnight. Yes. I work out at home! You are a delight and I hope that ‘24 is….not too crazy. Trying to keep my expectations realistic!
I actually started the no mascara thing several months ago just because I was tired of putting it on and I really like the look. I'm back in the mascara game again but it's nice to take a break from it.
From what I've seen "French girl beauty" is highlighting either eyes, cheeks or lips. Also, they use their hands to apply makeup a lot and the color scheme is light and pretty natural - not counting bright red lipstick which is a staple for when you want to highlight your lips. Saying drug store brands are no good is so 2012. I've given up high end beauty brands because you can find as good as/better products for up to 1/10 of the price. Don't tell me I need a 70 € eyeshadow quad when I can get one that works the same for less than 10 €. The white eyeliner is great for party makeup but light, creamy beige is more natural.
I wish fantasy hair colors would be embraced a ton more to where its not looked down on in public/work places......because some of us don't do makeup/tattoo's to express ourselves and instead dye our hair to express ourselves....dont get me wrong makeup is gorgeous when done properly but i suck at using it so just dont bother with it and instead dye my hair instead........i also wish cargo pants and clothing that is not hugging the body would come into fashion as i hate clothing hugging my body i prefer it to be lose or slightly baggy.
I think baggy clothes are coming in, at least with my high school students! As for fantasy hair, I totally agree. I used to work in an Adventist hospital that had a “only natural colors” rule that I think is insane. But even still, I’m not risking coloring my hair burgundy until after I have a tenured teaching position. Which is lame that anyone should ever feel that pressure. It’s just hair. I also feel like I suck at using makeup, and I’m also too lazy to do it every morning.
As a color analysis girl myself, some of these "leave it in 2023" seem to be color based so I'm put in my 2 cents and tips. As a deep winter myself, bright cool and bold tends to fit me. So i do love fuchsia blush and white eye liner. White is a winter color, so it makes sense that Abbey who might be a softer season prefers more nude liners. As for blush i definitely recommend beige/muted pink blushes if your seeking more color harmony :) I recommend color analysis to everyone because it definitely helps with makeup and makes u look your best!
I have watched you for years and this is one of your best yet! So much wisdom and valid opinions. Much love to you and appreciation that you see everyone is uniquely beautiful!❤
Hello, I had lip flips twice, and while I liked how it looked, I couldn't smile the same. It was hard for me to raise my upper lip to smile fully. I then researched lip filler and found that you can get half a syringe to one full syringe and have a natural look while plumping your lips. I got a full syringe 2 weeks ago and love it. It has given me a fuller upper lip but still looks very natural... and it hasn't affected my smile!
I personally like to look “effortless” but I think that means different things to different people AND it’s not necessary for everyone to ascribe to one aesthetic!
Fragrance layering is using the body line range too. Shower gel, body cream, perfume. It locks the scent in and makes it last longer. (I’m a certified fragrance specialist - I have a badge and everything 💅🏻😅)
I just have to say that I have been loving all your videos and hair care tips, and for the first time in MONTHS I can finally say that my bleached hair is soft and shiny because of you. I will never again buy conditioner and leave in conditioner without bis-aminopropyl dimethicone or amodimethicone. Abbey, you saved my hair ❤ Thank you!
I totally relate to your big sister rant. I’m so fed up with people thinking they’re less than beautiful because they don’t look like certain people. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Not everyone thinks the so-called recent standard is even all that beautiful. PS Abbey, you are gorgeous!
For me the thing about face filler or any cosmetic procedure that's obvious is that people start to look cloned. My brain says "you've had that done because you want to look younger" and I then assume they are older than they look! Everyone looks 80 pretending to be 20 even if they are 20!
omg PLEASE make a heatless curl accessory! We need something that is actually comfortable to sleep in as a side sleeper and little effort to actually do in the evening! I would buy it in a heartbeat!
I love the lip flip I get it every 6 months it’s really great. As for not moving your lip that’s never happened to me it has to others but it wears off really fast
I've also been disappointed by the overuse of lip filler. But it might be the addition of lip products that emphasize the filler. I've noticed you tend to be pretty subtle with lip products since getting lip filler.
I love how you stay true to what you love, with fun twists that come up in the new year!! Been following your tips for years now and they have never led me astray ❤ Also I’m always looking for cute comfy sweatshirts and this color is to die for. Can you share if you don’t mind?
I've done a pale gold eyeliner on my lower waterline for years, but not to make my eyes look bigger. It helps me look more awake & my eyes less bloodshot, especially when I didn't sleep well or it's allergy season. But I'm also super fair, so it might not work on deeper skin tones. The white or flesh-toned eyeliner are way too harsh on me.
@@CallieRoseStark7 Right now, I use Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Stix in the color I am Shining, which is a champagne shimmer. It can be hard to find a pale gold eye liner, so sometimes you have to improvise - but this works really well for me, regardless.
Thank you! I'm fair to light and prone to bloodshot eyes (always tired 😫 ) and I like the idea of white or nude eyeliner on my waterline but it looks weird on me, so this may work better!
@@CallieRoseStark7 You're welcome, & I hope it works for you! If it doesn't seem to do much, it might be because the color is too light for you. So you should probably keep that in mind, & try a medium champagne or gold liner before giving up on it.
I know how you meant it in the video, but please never say that you don’t really love your face, Abby. You are nothing short of absolutely stunning! Even in clown makeup and a burlap bag
Your big sister rant was so relatable I felt the same way, I also prefer thin brows n do my makeup differently for my face. As for colors most "nudes" i can't do, and right now I feel we are in a warm tone renaissance and I'm a cool tone girl. I been buying K-beauty because of it lol!!!!
I love the idea of your own tweaked version of a heatless curling product. While I'm still growing my hair out to be long enough to actually do the process, I practice with some items and it just doesn't seem to work. And if it does, it's - like you said - on only one side of my head! Yes please!! Excellent video, as usual!!
Kylie, Kendall and Hailey are not relatable to me at all. I don’t follow them or care what they are up to. They don’t set any trends for me.
Right! Same here! I couldn’t care less about what they do.
😂😂😂 couldn’t agree more it’s more like if you want to learn bad and wasteful money habits then be influenced by them
It's really sad that our country is so vain and perceived perfection has gone way overboard.
It’s marketing that works because people aspire to live lives like them
I hope 2024 will bring more individuality and creativity instead of feeling pressured to look like everyone else.
This!!
I feel like the younger you are AND the more you live your life online, the more this pressure is real…. But outside of that, while there is still like, ambient pressure from trends or whatever, the reality is if you’re not a 100% slave to trends, what’s the consequence? Out there in real life literally no one will care. So I hope more people realise that this year, and/or style themselves for themselves, in real life, and not a tiktok algorithm.
agreed!!
100%!!
@@88kayleigh i completely agree with you!
I would like to see people embracing thier natural noses without contouring to make them look smaller. Ethnic noses are really beautiful.
Amen 🙏
I need to do this
Omg I love this comment 🎉
Omgggg the contoured nose. And it usually looks awkward in daylight. 😂
Yes!
Lash extensions. Like the filler people don't know when to stop. The first set usually looks good but the it seems every time after the first application the density and length multiplies and it starts to look ridiculous.
Agreed! I don’t like the look where it looks like it’s got to be pulling the lid down or it hides the eyes!
Humans always go overboard, they started ig makeup with one shade lighter concealer under the eyes, now they're using 10 shades lighter, in fact i saw pure White once
This is me.. lol!! I love my lash extensions! Sorry ya'll! I feel naked without lashes!
@@kellystewart9291I have my own lashes and I often go without mascara, but my mom would never leave the house like that 😂
Personally I’d just like “algorithmic” beauty to die.
1000%
I looked "clean girl" it was basically a repackaging of no makeup makeup which is repackaging for what normal people do anyway.
It shows people's individual features more than IG baddie makeup.
I wish the trend of naming old concepts with new names so that companies can profit would die though. Been watching videos about how launches are behind when some word on tiktok starts trending in makeup. N
@@daisiesandpandas1218no make up make up is my everyday makeup for work, but I don't do the oily hair 😅 I like fluffy bun
My wish would be for the concept of "trends" and rules to go away. I'm so sick and tired of all the unwritten rules when it comes to beauty.. and I'm sick of everybody looking the same.
Giant butts need to go. It’s time to appreciate body types that are classy/ not hypersexual again
I just don't look up or read on this topic. Sometimes for fun, to see what's up. I ignore, usually. Reccommend. 😉
@ale.ksandra I don't follow trends.. but they often make it very hard for me to find clothes and stuff. Even if I don't follow the trends, I want them to go away. People get burned out and burned self-esteem.
@@elin_ True. I also get angry ate the clothing issue. Maybe I don't wantva neon pink top? 😉
@@ale.ksandra I certainly don't want cropped tops.. but sometimes it feels like that's all that is available.
I’m just trying to look presentable at this point 😂
pink blush is SO fun
I am very pale and love pink blushes..but,not the hot pink like Dior. I love soft pinks and muted mauves, dusty rose etc.
I love hot pink blush! I just discovered it last year thanks to the trend, and I was shocked by how flattering it looked on me. I’m 36 and I’ll be wearing hot pink blush forever!
😅😅
I literally never follow trends - ever. First off it's expensive constantly changing up products/clothes/etc and second, as you said Abby, we all don't have the same look! We're uniquely beautiful and have different features we want to show off. I do what makes me feel good or what works for my skin tone and face in general. I wish most women did that too, I think we'd all feel more confident in ourselves rather than compare to what others do.
We're all beautiful!!
Not to mention how wastefull...
I am sick of everyone wanting to look the same. Maybe it is where I live.
@@Meg-A-Saurus Jep, happened to me and my friend.
Never doing that again.
Me too!!!!
I totally agree!!😊
My sister has dry eyes. You are right!!
Yes, sometimes your eyelashes will fall out if you react with mascara as well!
I do the no mascara thing when I’m lazy lol, I find makeup is much more comfortable and easier to remove without mascara as well
For sure! Wearing no mascara takes away sooo much if the stress of wearing makeup.
Yes they look ridiculous. Enjoy your youth
Overdone filler can absolutely stretch the skin & cause a person to look older but botox can be preventative. It's not always best to wait until a person gets wrinkles before getting botox, it's actually recommended to get a little bit to prevent the wrinkles before they come. Of course, nothing is for everyone but if a person is trying to avoid wrinkles or delay aging, botox can be a great resource
i agree but also jennifer lawrence got EXTENSIVE plastic surgery, not just fillers, that have contributed to her looking a lot older
I'm aiming for the Topanga Lawrence highlights color this spring. I already have the thick hair cut lol
Yes!!! Watching tv shows / movies everyone has the same hairstyle with curling wand curls at the bottom.
I am loving seeing big 90s blowout looks coming in, bangs too. Also really cute shorter cuts from collar bone to bob to pixie and shag.
Agreed!!
the thing about french girl makeup is not about looking good effortless, it’s about actually not putting a lot of makeup and not caring about fixing the “imperfections” of our face. it’s about embracing ourselfs as we are and just putting a little bit of eyeliner or lipstick bc it’s fun period
Contouring the nose is an interesting trend and I’ve seen lots of people going overboard with the contouring lately; to the point where the nose just looks brown. It pulls the focus to the nose instead of the rest of the face. 🙊
Also I don't feel like it looks good, it just looks like you have an orange nose, it does not make it look smaller
@@fran791 Yes! I’ve had the same thought🙈 It brings even more attention to the nose..
Then there are people who go too far with it, get themselves into uncanny valley territory, and who can't see what's wrong as a result of dysmorphia as you stated.
too much and poorly placed filler can also make a face look puffy and swollen, which is usually a sign that something in the body isn't working right.
People look like they’ve had an allergic reaction the shellfish. That and “monkey mouth”, where there’s so much filler in the upper lip their entire mouth juts out like an ape. I wish women knew how beautiful their unique beauty is! There’s nothing wrong with getting something done if they really want it, but everyone has gone way too far- and they all want to look exactly the same.😳 Can’t we bring back unique, individual beauty?
great point
So... idk. Ethereal forever for me 😅
@@sapodecueva Ethereal is the perfect word for it!
I feel less alone on this now, thank you, Abbey.
of course!! ugh yes I feel like short form content has just made it so much easier to feel that way
Love this! I am also 40 and finally coming to grips with visible aging.

I have loved lip/cheek stains since i started wearing makeup in like 2008! Unfortunately, they go in and out of style and are therefore sometimes harder to find. 😅
i agree with you! too much botox and fillers can make people look way older 😕
Yes please do more fragrance videos! I like your seasonal fragrance video ideas but I’d also be so keen to see you do a full fragrance collection video 🤩

I would absolutely buy it if you came out with a heatless curling accessory. I never curl my hair with heat because I burned myself pretty bad many years ago (on the face, fortunately the scar eventually faded but it took about ten years to be invisible) and so I’m all about the heatless curls…but do agree that sometimes they just look wonky and I’d love to see what you would come up with to help with that!
oh my gosh that sounds so scary!! hm... let me think about this lol
Maybe you could try to use socks to do heatless curls, at least it worked to me
Finally someone agrees with me about the bushy eyebrows!!! Everything you mentioned was on point! Thank you for your thoughful content!
It helps to hear others’ experiences!
oh gosh yes. I'd definitely consider myself confident but not all day every day! I for sure have my moments
So very well said, and I could t agree more. I’ve grown so nostalgic for our pre-IG and pre-TikTok world. 😢
Such beautiful thoughts on Trends Abby! I absolutely can relate to feeling as if something would be wrong with me if a trend doesn‘t look good on me
I don't care about what people want to do cosmetic procedure-wise, intense filter on social media-wise, photoshop, anything at all, but I do have issues with people denying it. I understand why they do, but I think it's very problematic 😔
Agreed! I’ll admit to what I’ve had done if asked and I have no judgement towards others whether they do anything or not.
Love spending my Sunday mornings with you pretty girl! Have a great day!!
thank you so much for watching ❤
I love that you brought up how not every trend suits everyone. I feel like you kind of touch on this a lot on your channel when you say that just because you love a product doesn’t mean that it’s for everyone and viceversa. And I think that’s the beauty of it, really: how we all have individual features that look good with different styles and colors.
Also, for anyone struggling to find things that look good on you, I highly recommend looking up what your season is. This will make finding makeup and clothes that suit you soooo much easier. And it’s made me realize that, like Abbey was saying, something not looking good on you doesn’t take away from your beauty. It simply means it doesn’t suit you, and that’s okay.
absolutely ❤
I love your thoughtful and inclusive content! I would love to see people start to embrace their natural features and have fun using makeup to enhance what they were born with. Like you were saying about your own eyebrows, if you weren’t born with large eyebrows microblading or drawing large ones on probably isn’t going to look great and same goes for lips.
aw thank you so much! and totally agree
I wish I liked it on me!! I've seen so many people look pretty with it
My lip flip totally freaked me out!!!! Number 1: I couldn’t even see a difference! AND I couldn’t operate! I would slurp out of a straw and felt like my words came out funny because I truly couldn’t feel my upper lip!! Now I know!!! SO glad it wore off after a few months!!
Thank you for sharing a real life experience!!! ❤
hahaha OMG ok I'd hate that
I do full face and no mascara often, because i hate taking mascara off and sometimes, i know i have to be somewhere for not a lot of hours or i will be wearing computer glasses, so I dont see the point of wearing mascara sometimes.
I’m sick of clean girl too lol I look sick when I try 😂 I need the liquid liner with a wing. Out of all the looks I’ve tired, that one just suits me and makes my eyes look bigger so…ima do it 😅
From one vanilla fragrance girly to another- ive been layering Nemats Vanilla Musk fragrance oil with Kayali pistachio gelato and it smells delicious!
I’ve been on the vanilla train for 6+ months too…and I love to layer them😊
Haha
So the lip flip Botox (neurotoxin)… I’ve had it many times but also have gone without many times (when getting it done in other areas). Filler “fills”
Sorry for the super super longwinded comment from a random person not in the medical aesthetic field haha!
I've only seen it achieved with makeup, then it does indeed look very nice.
As an oily skinned girl living on a tropical island i'll skip the glass skin with pleasure! Pass that powder, please 😂
Someone said all these glass skin people take the pictures a few minutes after applying skincare... It sinks in like everybody else's does.
ive also noticed NO ONE has glass skin irl! the closest thing ive seen is people who dont have acne or scarring but thats literally just having clear skin lmao
I’ll die with my mascara on. Period.
I think the brand was Typology Paris
The cosmectics in drugstores in France are considered fancy even for us French poeple 😂
yes!!! I'm glad you both relate lol
Love your videos! I think you meant to put 2024 in the title 😘 I look forward to your videos every week. 💜
I was going to say the same thing. 😁
dangit thanks for letting me know!! lol fixed it xx
I love my top lip now ;)
Same here
Same here!
Yes!!
ohhhh I love hearing this ok ok
I love perfume layering too! Would be curious to hear some of your go tos!
i love the no mascara 🤭
Abbey, thank you so much for doing this video! We need more encouragement from influencers to love who we are and to stop following so many ridiculous trends. I couldn’t agree with you more on not fitting in to this “kardashian look” it’s not healthy for women, especially younger women to think that this is what our standard of beauty is.
This hair colour is so good on you, it’s crazy 😮
And I love the combo with brighter ? Lips
Agree with you….on everything in this video! That said, heatless curls still work for me as I wear them while I work out on the morning - never overnight. Yes. I work out at home! You are a delight and I hope that ‘24 is….not too crazy. Trying to keep my expectations realistic!
I love that you addressed this! We all have unique features and we are therefore uniquely beautiful
You mean 2024?
The lip flip made me and my friend laugh....the numbness definitely goes away, and I love the suttle look
Spot on across the board! Great video.
I totally agree with everything you said. Which is pretty rare for me (to agree with all opinions), but this time... I really enjoyed it.
Much love to you and appreciation that you see everyone is uniquely beautiful!❤
awww thank you so much ❤
I love your videos Abbey!! I personally have never followed trends and never would but I love watching your videos every time you post one 💖💖
thank you so much ❤
I’m sick of the trend of drawing over and obscuring the Cupid’s bow
Yes
Hello,
I had lip flips twice, and while I liked how it looked, I couldn't smile the same.
I'm loving that the red lip is back! I discovered in 2023 how great bright pink blush looks on olive skin and can't go back to warm toned blush.
Girls, if “clean girl” was hard..lets think of “mob wife” I feel like I will never pull this off 😢
No mascara with a full face of (no make up) make up has been my daily make up routine since forever 🤗
For me the thing about face filler or any cosmetic procedure that's obvious is that people start to look cloned. My brain says "you've had that done because you want to look younger" and I then assume they are older than they look! Everyone looks 80 pretending to be 20 even if they are 20!
I love layering just a touch of haba tonka, specially now during the winter months ❤
omg PLEASE make a heatless curl accessory! We need something that is actually comfortable to sleep in as a side sleeper and little effort to actually do in the evening! I would buy it in a heartbeat!
I love the lip flip I get it every 6 months it’s really great. As for not moving your lip that’s never happened to me it has to others but it wears off really fast
Hot take- laminated (or combed up, glued in place)-and fluffy brows are not the same, in fact, they are kind of opposite in terms of texture and hold.
I've also been disappointed by the overuse of lip filler. But it might be the addition of lip products that emphasize the filler. I've noticed you tend to be pretty subtle with lip products since getting lip filler.
I love how you stay true to what you love, with fun twists that come up in the new year!! Been following your tips for years now and they have never led me astray ❤
Also I’m always looking for cute comfy sweatshirts and this color is to die for.
What eyeliner do you use?
Your video made me tear up ngl! It feels like gentle parenting to my inner child 🥹💕 thank you for saying it out loud. Ya’ll are all beautiful 💕
awwww big hugs ❤
I know how you meant it in the video, but please never say that you don’t really love your face, Abby. You are nothing short of absolutely stunning! Even in clown makeup and a burlap bag
Your big sister rant was so relatable I felt the same way, I also prefer thin brows n do my makeup differently for my face. As for colors most "nudes" i can't do, and right now I feel we are in a warm tone renaissance and I'm a cool tone girl. I been buying K-beauty because of it lol!!!!
I can soooo relate to your ‘rant” and it’s nice to know I’m not alone on that
I love the idea of your own tweaked version of a heatless curling product. While I'm still growing my hair out to be long enough to actually do the process, I practice with some items and it just doesn't seem to work. And if it does, it's - like you said - on only one side of my head! Yes please!!
Excellent video, as usual!!
ok I'm going to put some thought into this lol
I’d be very interested in fragrance related videos, it’s also my latest obsession ❤
will do! xx
Me too!! Specially because i love vainilla fragances like abbey❤
#1) I’m for no mascara or face makeup. 👍🏻for lipstick, brow pencil, and subtle eyeliner
