In this SAG interview, Sir Ken practically interviews himself for two hours. His crisp, warm words roll off his tongue in ardent delight. He is humble, confident, witty, cheeky, intelligent, fascinating, bold, charismatic, and effervescent about his love for acting, theatre, film, helming an honest, authentic set, (anger and frustration are okay, but being cagey or manipulative are not). Branagh found his calling at a young age and is a courageous actor who is deeply affected by the humanity in stories, moved to tears by the mystical nature of Shakespeare when the muse pays a visit. He shares a treasure trove of tales about British acting royalty, including some spot on imitations of a kittenish Sir Lawrence Olivier. Kenneth Branagh is my favorite actor, a primary influence in my life, and a former pen pal. I have seen him speak several times in person. The friend I saw him with last time referred me to this video. I highly recommend it.
What a lovely tribute. I saw the 23 year old Branagh play Henry V at Stratford and it was one of the high points in my life of theatre-going. I have followed the path of his career ever since. He is such a credit to the acting profession, always generous, funny and hugely likable.
Wonderful interview, and such a good relationship between Branagh and Riley. I get the feeling that Sir K is doing some of that acting without showing it that he admires so much. It's as if he's heard all these questions before and he has worked out the very best way to present the answers. It's wonderful that it keeps him from being flippant, or going off track. And so honest too, because if I'm right, he's thought out what his truth is and he's so able to present it confidentally.
I have seen this wonderful interview again after several years, now I miss Branagh to tell us what has happened to him in the last decade, it is a pleasure to listen to this brilliant man at the same time humble and easy to deal with.
I am not a native english speaker by birth. One major influence that lead me to being a real admirer of (british) english literature and theatre (Shakespeare and Wilde in particular) was the work of Sir Kennth Branagh. When I saw his movie Henry V for the first time, literately by chance, almost 20 years ago, I was dumbstruck by the beauty of the language and delivery. I hardly understood anything of what was going on back then, but it was beautiful to watch and listen. I have never seen or met him in person, but his joy of playing with the language comes very much across even in this interview. I haven't seen or heard much of his work over the last couple of years, so it was like meeting an old friend when I stumbled across this interview.
This is phenomenal: the worlds finest actors, in such a casual, and what looks like uncomfortable hour or longer in fold out chairs and plastic water bottles as a set. Amazing. Wonderful interview, the actors are so humble and dynamic.
As someone who loves only Kenneth Branagh more than I love Olivier, this interview brings joy to my soul. Branagh doing hilarious Olivier impressions? YES PLEASE.
Kenneth is ‘living the dream’! Fantastic creative human being. No problem, KB is ‘in the building’. 😊 Hopefully no problem, has a real knack for reviving historical excellence in storytelling. Keeping Shakespeare popular, and so much more! 👏 Bravo cheers! 👏
I love this interview, and props to the interviewer to recognise that you just need to let Sir Ken talk and not worry about getting all your questions in.
the UK government should think about this for a moment - the UK would not have Kenneth Branagh to boast about if the government hadn't paid for his tuition and maintenance as a student. what they're doing as the moment is making sure that a lot of great talent never becomes known.
UK shouldn't have "had him" in the 1st place. He was born on the island of Ireland. The part, referred to as Northern Ireland, still a colony of Britain to this day.
We were the lucky vessels comment in reference to acting/ producing Shakespeare Henry the 5th is humility defined. Sir Kenneth is so deserving of all the accolades. ❤
What an outstanding video! Thank you so much for uploading. Here's almost two hours of Sir Ken Branagh at his very best... emotional, fantastic, sexy, more than talented actor. Thanks really!
Went back to the original Sir Lawrence "On Acting" b&w interview laughed my head off watching those rolling of the tongue & lisp. Ken Branagh made Sir Lawrence much more fun to watch....
If you want to hear Olivier at his most affected and comically reverential by today's standards, his narration of the Queen's Coronation in 1953 is worth a listen.
Kenneth Branagh Played The Grreat Sir Earnest Shackleton...OMG!! He was So Friggin Good in that Movie. One of My All Time Favorite Movies ;] Sir Earnest Shackleton was One of The Grreatest Leaders of All Time...A Real Life Hero...Sir Earnest Shackleton Explored The South Pole & even though his Exploration did not Succeed...Sir Earnest Shackleton Managed to Succeed at Saving His Entire Crew...One of The Grreatest Navigational Feats of All Time & There are Only 3. Captain Bligh & crew, after the Mutiny, Successfully Navigated the Vast Sea South Pacific in a small boat. Then it was Sir Earnest Shackleton Navigation the South Pole & the Treacherous Wettle Sea. He Saved his entire crew. The Final one is Apollo 13 making it back to earth with an Absolutely Unbelievable set of Horrible circumstances. AMAZING SURVIVAL STORIES...Makes you Feel Proud to be Part of The Human Race ;]
There is an error in the beginning. She says Oscar winning script for Henry V. Branagh doesn't have an Oscar. He wrote the film as well as direct and star in it, but was nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, for that film. I feel he should have two Oscars. And should've won for Best Director for Henry V and have an Oscar for writing Hamlet.
Branagh has brought so much great, intelligent stuff to the screen, I wish I could just admire him without reservation. But then I remember him cheating on his wife, the beautiful, brainy, and insanely talented Emma Thompson, which destroyed his marriage, and my heart sinks. Especially knowing that Emma’s tearful performance as the wife of a cheater in Love Actually was mostly real emotion over her real life situation at the time. She’s said so. And that he cheated on her with Helena Bonham Carter, great actress but total flake. He had the absolute best wife on the planet for someone like him, sexy enough for any man, even a non artsy type, and he throws it away. I guess none of these actors can resist exploring a new experience, nor can any of them keep a vow - the men, anyway. It’s a head shaker.

Such a giving person is Sir Kenneth. Wonderful interview by Jenelle, as usual.
It's so great when the interviewer is good!
A true Gentleman and an extraordinary Lady Interviewer ❤
I have seen this wonderful interview again after several years, now I miss Branagh to tell us what has happened to him in the last decade, it is a pleasure to listen to this brilliant man at the same time humble and easy to deal with.
He talks so much, what a delight to listen to!
Loved the Harold Pinter story!

Couldn't agree more. I'm a native Brit and your English is excellent!
Ken is so charismatic and easy. Wonderful interview.
This is phenomenal: the worlds finest actors, in such a casual, and what looks like uncomfortable hour or longer in fold out chairs and plastic water bottles as a set. Amazing. Wonderful interview, the actors are so humble and dynamic.
A tour de force of mastery of language, craft and lived insight, a delight, thanks
Totally genuine. This man is brilliant. More Shakespeare Ken...please!
Humble and funny, brilliant actor and cool guy. I'm loving this series.
What a wonderful interview. Kenneth and Jenelle Riley got along swimmingly too. Hope he's back down the line.
Excellent interview and interviewer
As someone who loves only Kenneth Branagh more than I love Olivier, this interview brings joy to my soul. Branagh doing hilarious Olivier impressions? YES PLEASE.
No
So charming and authentic. What a class act.
This is how you interview soneone and that is how you give one, personable, intelligent , humble, he's marvellous. Was such a pleasure to watch this!
What a sweet and humble man! So well spoken. I am glad we get to enjoy his talent.
Really great interview from a really great actor, thank you!
I find it impossible not to enjoy the man...
I love this interview, and props to the interviewer to recognise that you just need to let Sir Ken talk and not worry about getting all your questions in.
He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director for the first film he ever directed. Bonkers!
What a wonderful interviewer.

Absolute genius with a terrific sense of humour
I like anything he does. Love the series he stars in.
We were the lucky vessels comment in reference to acting/ producing Shakespeare Henry the 5th is humility defined. Sir Kenneth is so deserving of all the accolades. ❤
I love how Ken keeps plumbing the depths of his suit jacket throughout the whole thing.
My absolute favorite actor.
What an outstanding video! Thank you so much for uploading. Here's almost two hours of Sir Ken Branagh at his very best... emotional, fantastic, sexy, more than talented actor. Thanks really!
I like the host. She does a great job!
Went back to the original Sir Lawrence "On Acting" b&w interview laughed my head off watching those rolling of the tongue & lisp. Ken Branagh made Sir Lawrence much more fun to watch....
His eyes go perfectly with that suit
Branagh just gets acting. It's in his DNA - thus his incredible eloquence.
Love him. And I love his movies
Amazing, down to Earth - genius = and sexy!
I love him. So fantastic.
I respect his incredible love for Shakespeare, but I like watching him do comtemporary works, like Wallander on TV, this reaches more people
Am I the only one who really loves his „Frankenstein“?
One of my favourite adaptions ❤
If you want to hear Olivier at his most affected and comically reverential by today's standards, his narration of the Queen's Coronation in 1953 is worth a listen.
Only shakespeare himself could do justice in poetry to how much I love this man.
Love this guy. It's his fault my love for Shakespeare's plays.
I like how he said “when an actor playing Hamlet forgot their lines they would call it Hamnesia!”
His version of Hamlet is amazing. He did something no other director has ever done. He took a 400 year old play & made it cinematic.
Great movie but there are many great Shakespeare movies. And he'd already done that twice!
amaxamon None as great as this one, IMO. And he didn't do Hamlet twice. He did a theatrical company doing a parody of Hamlet.
Lynn Turman No he did 2 other films based on Shakespeare plays - 3 if you include The 12th Night for TV.
amaxamon Yes I know. But he didn't make two movies of Hamlet. Your previous post made it sound like he did.
Olivier did it in the 60s
Looking good, Lockhart.
My favorite actor.
Branagh is a seriously great talent and a really decent bloke ... too many of these actors are so far up themselves these days ....
Extraordinaria entrevista

I dont know y I find him very handsome man.
Sir Kenneth in Macbeth wow!!!!!!
I like the FRANKENSTEIN movie was AWESOME!😊☺

Jared Wignall Actually this guy named Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. You should look him up some day. :)
Valdagast I'm talking about the film of Hamlet Branagh made. He wrote the script of the film. Everybody knows Shakespeare wrote Hamlet.
Jared Wignall
I was trying to make a joke. :)
Okay sorry. Sometimes, people like to be smart asses. With the internet you can't always tell at if someone's joking or not.
Such a delight! Blown away by his talent, charm, wit and his gigantic humility.
Great actor
Where's the sequel to Beginnings? Will Kenny call it Middles, Middling? or The Ends? His beginnings definitely didn't know their ends.
I know! I ordered that years ago from London, absolutely riveting.
Top drawer !
After watching this I can almost forgive his direction of Artemis Fowl. Almost. B-)
Wallander :)
Кеннет Брана❤❤❤❤
Jesus his coffee seems endless
yes

Well, her comment about that now is "Ah, it's all blood under the bridge." Classy line.
What is this comment doing in a Branagh interview? Lol did he bring her up at any point but she continually does? Come on.
HOW TO KILL YOUR NEIGHBOR'S DOG is my favorite, which can be watched on YOU TUBE
👏👏👏👏🙏
wow he talks tooo tooo much!!!!! but he is lovely!
master fillibuster...
Well..its a q&a about him so
Oh, you poor thing, Kudiwa! Did you think this was meant to be Branagh interviewing Janelle Riley? He IS lovely. He may give you a refund.
George Clooney not worth mentioning.
how you doing screen actors union
