We have a property on a Greek island and this is exactly what we do when we are there. Daytrips to all the beaches, eat at our favourite tavernas along the way. Nothing like it.

The church ''Holy temple of the birth of Christ'' is magnificent! I am a non religious Greek living in Greece but i am fascinated abt the old churches found in Greek territory. This church was a basilica with a wooden roof, a quiet rare sight!

I don't about Greece but in the U.S. a tattered American flag must be taken down and destroyed. You can bring it to the gov't or certain patriotic or veteran orgs will take care of it for you

That first dive in the sea after that heat.. It's the best feeling when on holiday!
In the early nineties, while I was in my early twenties, I was flying for Olympic aviation, a branch of Olympic airways, which flew to many mainland, domestic destinations and all of the island ones. Skiathos was one of the most frequent slots I would fly. Landing there, is always an experience to remember and it was even more dramatic back then, since the runway was much shorter. But I only flew a nineteen seater Dornier which was perfect for the job.

When you said you didn’t know if you should be on that route with a motorbike, you were on Papadiamante Street which is a main drag and cars drive on it too! That Open Air cinema shows Mama Mia movies at night and people dress up (since it was filmed in nearby Skopelos). It’s a trip. Be glad no flights came in or out while you were at the fence. I made that mistake only once. You know safety measures aren’t all that strict there. People have gotten really hurt at that wall by the fence.
I’m loving your Northern Sporades videos. I head to Alonissos in a couple days and am obsessively checking news, worried they’ll shut me down again! I go every year. It’s my favorite place on earth. Have a wonderful time!

Gabriel I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos. The editing and narrative you give is always fantastic. I’m also always amazed when you stop to go for a swim, that you can leave your backpack on the beaches. As a solo traveller that would be one of my biggest concerns. As always I appreciate you taking us along on your travels and adventures. Peace and Calm. 👍🏻😎🇨🇦
I too would be worried about leaving my backpack on a sandy beach while I went in for a swim. You could lose your phone, wallet, keys and Driver's license. Does anyone have any ideas where you could hide a backpack?
@@mountaincat8 try a Swim Dry bag - we use a Zone 3 one to put keys, camera, cash in whilst swimming. V good.
But even when you are with someone else, you would both go in the water together?
as a Greek, this is only a concern in crowded beaches and beach bars, in smaller and unorganised beaches you do not have to worry as much.
A general precaution you can take if you are worried is to leave each item separately, not all in one bag.
ie. You can put your car keys and phone under you towel, you leave all your documents (passport, id and licence) in your vehicle (under the seat if you have a bike) and your wallet in your bag with some extra cash in your phone case. This way if someone steals your bag you only lose your wallet with some of your cash, not all your things!
But, in my 38 years in Greece and several alone beach excursions, I never had a problem! And I leave my stuff unattended for several hours at a time since I usually also go for spearfishing!

Hi Gabriel.I watched your previous videos when you went hiking in Italy and Switzerland and I wonder how come you don't go hiking in the Greek mountains.Surely Greece is more than beaches yet you tend to stay more in the islands.Don't just stay there or at Meteora.If you like hiking you should definitely check out mount Olympus,the Pindus(valia calda) national park and Vikos-Aoos national park along side with Vikos gorge,dragon lake of Tymfy mountain and Zagoroxoria.Also Metsovo and the Aoos river springs and artificial lake.That's a hole other Greece than the one most tourists get to see.I just went hiking in Vikos gorge and I saw a lot of tourists hiking there and I think,Gabriel will love this place.A lot of hikes there, beautifull nature and a lot of thinks to see nature and culture wize.
I climbed Mt. Olympus when I was 18. I was thinking of going to Vikos Gorge when I went to Meteora on my road trip. But it was too hot for exploring inland, plus the rental car was crazy expensive. I guess when I travel to Greece I'm mostly thinking about the sea. But yes there's lots to explore on the mainland as well.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos Hey Gabe I don’t want to interfere to your schedule but since it came up you might consider (someday) travel to Greece in winter (and when I say winter I mean January-February ,and March-April for the mountains). Nothing is certain (in meteo) but we are expecting some (serious!) snowing in Greece after New Years Day. You will not find Canada ,Aspen or the Alps for sure but you may be surprised how beautiful ,peaceful ,even snowy! is mainland (mountain) Greece. You will discover another Greece ,the one you don’t imagine that really exists. Keep walking and climbing.

Glad you made it to the airport area- best beach for the planes is the other one nearer the town as the planes normally approach from that direction (you looked across the runway to it and also pointed to it from the higher vantage point). As a European, I have only been to Greece once. Namely, in Samos. We don't have a sea here, but YOU as a Californian should be used to the sea. We also brought you a Senator from Europe. Schwarzenegger's birthplace is 4 hours away from me.
You and Odysseus got lost among the islands. There's something about those islands.
When I was there two years ago exactly at this time of year the flights were coming in every 15 minutes or so! Changed times! I also travelled from Cyprus on the direct flights!
Yes, they use to be so busy with flights & they weren't too expensive either around 1.5-2 years ago.

No, you eventually figure it all out after a few times & once locals give you some tips. Even though everything is white, you memorize business names on walls & markings like pottery or window/door colors being different. You look for the sea as a focal point usually too or like Gabe did with the Ferry Port 😂😂

I can't believe how green these islands are, even by the end of summer.. Mykonos isn't that far south from there and looks completely different. The rainfall and winds must be quite different as you move south a bit. Did that surprise you Gabriel? You've been all around the Cyclades.

Yes the sporade islands are very lush with lots of trees. Mykonos is the windiest Greek island, hence its name "Island of the winds". 😃
Love your videos! By the way, "Skiathos" is pronounced: "Ski'- athos". The accent is on the "i" , not on the "a". Also, you said "kalispera" as a greeting while it's obviously morning or early afternoon, while the correct greeting is: "kalimera" (good day). Use "kalispera" only in the early evening as a greeting, and use "kalinichta" only as a "goodbye" at nighttime, never as a greeting. All the best to you!

@2:57 is a good reason why you want to travel light & with a backpack & a daypack or crossbody bag like Gabriele does. These types of countries will break the wheels on your suitcase. It is easier to walk onto buses, trains, get into cabs, get on/off ferries, and airplanes. Much easier to do ascents & descents with steep climbs and long distances. Plus, the safety factor with being on your body and add mini locks to the zippers so no one can steel from your back.
Gabe, did you go down the steep streets on Skopelos Chora & some become really steep or turn into stairs 😂😂😂?? We just walked/hiked everywhere & worked up our appetites.
