So glad at you showcase Skopelos, a lesser known island with an amazing nature. Not the stereotypical dry landscape of Cyclades here but dense pine forests that spread over the coastline. You should receive the honorary Greek citinzenship like Tom Hanks, you deserve it!

the beach after stafylos over the hill, now called velanio, in the 90's was a real nudist beach ... intense memories for a teenager
Yes I was there many, many years ago. I visited the beach by chance. The people there weren't embarrassed at all, but I was because I was wearing a pair of shorts.
I went to Stafylos and Velanio in 2019. I took the bus from Skopelos town where I was staying and walked back.
When you hike over the small hill to Velanio, there is an organized beach scene & beach bar, as you see in the video. If you go further down the beach, past the rocks and the umbrellas, there was a part that was clothing-optional. I was there in early July and it wasn't nearly as crowded as early to mid August when Gabe filmed this.

I was seriously thinking about going there at the end of the video. But it's pretty out of the way. Realized it was going to involve an extra 90 minutes of driving round trip and I was done for the day. Next time.

So which island you liked most? Skiathos is for when you are teenager max 25. Ideal for partying. Skopelos is for families when you are married. Alonissos is for the sophisticated, ideally single for quiet holidays, a bit alternative. And If you want further adventure and isolation there two more smaller uninhabited islands to go beyond alonissos . Gabriel which one you liked more?
Alonnisos was definitely my favorite. That will be my next video. But I didn't make it down to Skyros, which I really wanted to see. Too far out of the way and I ran out of time. I want to go back sometime to visit it another time, looks like it might be the best of the Sporades.

Ahh, beautiful Skopelos! I've just returned from three weeks in the Sporades, where I spent two weeks working remotely from Skopelos, and the remainder of the time on Alonnisos and Skiathos, and fell in love with all three islands. But Skopelos now has a special place in my heart, I met some wonderful people there and generally had a great time, even if I did have to do my Monday to Friday job while I was there!
I recall watching this video before I went, but it's interesting to watch it again now that I've been there and experienced the place for myself. Although you didn't show it in the video, I'm really hoping that you made it to Amorantos, very close to where you passed through Agnodas (or Agnontas as it also seems to be known), and one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen in my life!! If you didn't...well, I've just given you a reason to go back. ☺️

Ps: I still wonder how you can always order a greek salad beside a maindish, as a greeek salad is more likely to be shared by several people when you have a "maincorse" after. No rules though :) enjoy!
Ps 2: I would love to give you some insider tips for places one could visit, as I read a lot before visiting these islands. But I know that would be way too much and you're probably already in Alonissos?! :)
My husband always eats the main dish beside a Greek salad (we call it villager's salad, by the way) and we are a mainstream Greek family. We share it when we eat all together, but I have to make it bigger!

@@YesSirPhil. No chorta! Salata chorta is boiled greens with lemon on the top. Choriatiki salata (villagers) is the one you call Greek.

I think this is your best video to date.
Skopelos was one of the places that disappointed us the most. It looks much better in the photos.. we have seen all the island. I wouldn't skip it if i knew because it was an experience but we'll surely never go back. visited in August2021
A quick google search and this popped up:
For those from countries outside the EU a driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement is required for all motorbikes. Driving a scooter even less than 50cc with a car only driver's license is not allowed in Greece and all Greek Insurance companies refuse to cover such drivers
This is also new to me. So be careful because Insurance company will NOT cover it!!
That's what I found in 2019. Hired a quad bike instead!
Thanks for these videos, they’re amazing. I love the food you highlight, but isn’t Greece and the Aegean known for its seafood. Maybe you could show a little of that in your next video.
Sometimes it's difficult to believe Gabe exists, that someone has such a life. Other times, I find it difficult to understand why more of us don't. But I don't know how many of us are nomads like this.

A Drivers Licence for a Car doesn't get you onto a 50CC Bike or Scooter in Europe. You need a Motorbike Licence which starts at 50CC as the first Test you sit.

Coming to Greece from the states is trouble. Too many places to visit, too little time
In the past, if you owned a car driving licence you were legally allowed to ride a motorcycle up to 125cc without gaining any additional motorbike qualifications. But over time, EU regulations changed. Now, even if you do possess a full car driving licence, you still need to take a CBT test before you can get on a motorbike. However, there is an exception; and that most probably was what the other person was alluding to on the other island. Namely, if you acquired your driving licence before Feb 2001, you can ride a moped up to 50cc no more than a speed of 50km/h, without any other tests.
Interesting, good to know. That's a bit obscure, so maybe not everyone knows about that exception.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Yes, it is. But, strictly speaking, the rule is that if you don’t have a Category A ( or A1), you are not legally permitted to drive a two-wheel motorized vehicle.

Gabe, been doing a lot of research on cars/motorbikes/Scooters for rent in Greece. Unless you have a motorcycle license in the US, you can't rent any motorbike/scooter while in Greece or most European countries. Best you can do is the ATV you have there, you caught a lucky break when they provided you with that 50cc motorbike. 👍
I was able to rent a scooter on Agistri, Paxi and Alonnisos this year as well. So I guess it's random.
@@senorromantico7723 Not really, but if you have a lot of money then you don't have to worry about Insurance because they will NOT cover anything without the proper license.
I recommend you buy long range 60miles e-scooter

Wow! Gabe, you're usually conscientious. I'm 3 minutes into this video and you've filmed yourself opening the door to a home without knocking, entering, and filming what is likely someone else's domain. Then you tried a padlock (pretty universal what those are intended to mean), and finally for good measure you rang the bell. If you were looking to stir up trouble in a quiet little hamlet, well done! Otherwise, mind your Ps and Qs when out and about.
He didn't do anything insulting, just being curious, the same way kids are.
That was a small church in the middle of nowhere and an outbuilding that was clearly abandoned. I was showing the padlock to point out that the church was locked. Usually they're unlocked, and you're free to enter. Nothing wrong with ringing the bell of a small Greek church, especially when no one is around.
