MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY ON EARTH, AND ALSO THE BIRTH OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION !!!!!
The stone walls built with those massive stones, where they say the Mycenaean Palace of Odysseus is located are called cyclopean walls. They were built in that style during the Mycenaean era, found in many parts of Greece and correspond perfectly with the time Odysseus would've lived in his palace.
It’s all good in Greece!
Ithaki was my first holiday in Greece. We arrived on Greek Easter Sunday and a small fishing boat took us from Kefalonia to the island. What a magical and perfect place that will remain in my happy memories forever.
Little Islands are the best . Peace and relax.
I lived in Greece as a child, love this country so much. I can tell you love Greece too, Gabe!
Welcome to Greece! ❤❤🙏🇬🇷
Just wanted to acknowledge your respectful gesture in wearing a shirt before entering the church. Enjoy your Greek odyssey! God bless you 🙏
The first time my wife and i went to Greece was 2019 and we went to Lefkada, Kefalonia, Delphi and Athens. I absolutely loved it so much on the islands. Greece is my favorite vacation spot the people are so very nice. Going back to visit Crete next summer
24:16 "Εἰνοσίφυλλον Νήριτον Ἀριπρεπές - Neriton, the majestic and tree-covered mountain"; you're climbing up mount Neriton, the mountain described by Homer as a hallmark of Ithaca
While you are in Paxoi, take a ferry across to Parga, beautiful small town with so much history, iconic Castle, amazing food, people, beaches (Valtos, Lichnos, Sarakiniko +) & easy transportation to Ioananna&points north.
Miss being there this year, so I'm enjoying all your videos.
27:20 Translation (Woman Sculpture):
If you remember your first love!
You will fall in love again, don't be afraid !
In the crazy, playful youth!
Every love appears to us as the first!
Yikes I can't remember!!!
Ok,aha
Beautiful... Vassilios, thank you for the translation
love the respect for the church, thumbs up....
Went to santorini last year and I loved it
The island of Odysseus..
My daughter is flying to Rhodes, Greece tomorrow. I have been watching your videos for tips! Thank You!
Greece is so beautiful and epic , I definetly want to visit it
I visited Ithaca many years ago and fell in love with it, and wanted to live there, loved that at the time it was very natural and unspoilt, and also very friendly, especially at Stavros.
The display at 32.07 looks like Odysseus shooting the suitors of his wife, Penelope on his return to Ithaca.
Oh dear dear! Gabriel, I was studying the "School of Homer" of Ithaka 11 years ago, when I was still an employee (now retired) and through Google Earth with the included photos of the old Panoramio Google pictures facility on the spots, I had sufficient view and knowledge on the archaeological site and subject. Probably is the Palace of Odysseas. But this is the first time I see a video of thiw specific place and for that I THANK YOU Gabriel so much!!! You are magnificent my friend. Thank you 1000 times for this great offer to me. Greatings and respect to U from Trikala, GR.
My wife and I love Greece! We have been many times, and twice last year. We were meant to go to Rhodes back at the end of May but that was cancelled due to COVID and no travel from the UK allowed. We have now re-booked for September and hope that it will be on the GREEN list or we can travel as we will both be DOUBLE JABBED. Gabe, you are living the dream!
You don’t need to be jabbed to go to Greece. We can travel from the states to Greece with just a negative PCR test 🤔, no vax
How did you enjoy Rhodes? I love it
@@alcazar123456 Love it too. Going for our 6th time in 3 years in 4 weeks time. Staying in Ixia as usual.
@@stevecook706 enjoy!

Going to Evia, from Serbia in August, cant wait
Visit Dirfys mountain (1743m) and Steni, an amazing little village with old houses and tavernas
Evia is my island. You must go to the Chalkis and Caryst, are very nice there. If you can go to the north Evia, you must go on Aidipsos.I am living to the Aliveri,a city on Southern Evia.
Gabe love your videos especially the Greece ones
Love that you're gone back to Greece! Can't wait for more videos
My friend just came back from Greece. Beautiful
Planning on going to Greece 🇬🇷 middle of August, Montréal to Greece 🇬🇷, gee do not know what Canada 🇨🇦 is doing, thinking, allowing 🙄, but I’m going to Greece 🇬🇷, these videos have been very helpful to me.
Did you visit Agia Efimia in Kefalonia. That little chapel was too precious. Thanks for visiting Kefalonia 💙
I just drove through it, but showed it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/_ng4h-77bzg/v-deo.html
As always, great, informative video. Watch out for those snakes my friend 👍😃Thank you for sharing Greece with us❤️from Toronto, Canada 🍁
If you're still in kefalonia you can't miss xi beach, it has red sand and feels like being on Mars. It has a cliff wall that produces a gray clay mud that you can put on your skin for exfoliating
Ciao Gabriel.. Amazing Greece.. Thanks for this bellissimo video 🍀
Cave of the Nymphs sounds like a Steely Dan track.
God watching this I miss Greece even more!! Covid blues😡😡😡
I'm from Corfu and visit Ithaka almost every summer. It's wonderful that you got to go there! I like the fact that you visited a smaller, relatively unknown island. As a Greek I always suggest people to visit little, less touristy islands in Greece. The culture and beauty are preserved better.
Also you look exactly like my boyfriend 😍😍😍
That looks like the map for the presumed Homer's Odysseus journey from Troy back home to Ithaca. That's why starts numbering 1 in Turkey and then ends in Ithaca.
That explains it, thanks...Man, they took the scenic route.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos That's why we call a long trip an odyssey!
I’m loving this series. Greece is in my heart 💜 and I can’t wait to visit again. It’s still on the amber list for UK nationals 😩
I thought they’d put some islands on now.
@@VoiceOfThe No Greece at all after yesterdays update. Not sure EU countries travelling either. Everyone waiting to sort out an agreed travel plan ie fully vaccinated. 🤨
I love Greece you have shown so much and it is gorgeous!!
Ithaki is the mythical home of Odysseus!
Wow that was the quickest 34 mins of my life, loved the video Gabriel like always mate 👍🏻. I think I might do a Greece series and go there at the end of September.
I was once told by an older Greek man that they built a church everywhere the older pre-Christian society had built pagan shrines. This was both to make these old holy places holier by church standards and to stamp out pagan beliefs.
Well yes, and as well to use the energy accumulated over centuries of worship!
Loving your vlogs Gabriel Traveler. Am a total Grecofile. Have been going there for 15+ years to various islands but mostly Skopelos or Spetses. Have decided to wait until 2021 to travel internationally again from Ireland. Your vlogs have made me realise how much I miss that beautiful country.

Hey Gabriel. Thank you for sharing :)
Wondering when I will travel like you do. Right now stuck in a job
“Mediterranean, one of my favourite parts of the world” ….Oh, yeah, mine too. ….Good knowledge in Mediterranean map geography Gabriel!
Can’t wait to get to Greece, Gabe!…. Reminds me of when I was in Naples and went down to the Amalfi Coast and hiked the Path of the Gods trail, for the day… Thanks for letting is travel vicariously through you….
I truly love Greece and was so fortunate to get there twice last year and here’s hoping all okay for this October xxx
The temples for olympian gods were also build in similar locations, so i guess the remote church building tradition is in the greek dna.
Christianity came here in ancient greece and ruined most of our temples
What a nice, relaxing video. Greece looks gorgeous as usual. Just what I needed for a chill saturday evening!
Ferry is our favorite way to get between the islands! You get to see so much.
Macedonia is Greek wity travels .
Many times when a miracle-working icon is found of a saint or Panayia (an icon which is shedding tears, or sweet smelling oil is unexplainably dripping from the old wooden icon) and performs miracles, a church is built right on top of the spot that it was found.
I’m going to be here in about a week and can’t wait!
Your video is very nice. I would suggest you if you wanted to read Cavafy's poem Ithaca. Ithaca was the island of Odysseus. So the poem says that it is more important and nice to have a long way, that is, the journey, so that you can gather experiences.
Ithaka
BY C. P. CAVAFY
TRANSLATED BY EDMUND KEELEY
As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon-don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon-you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.
Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbors you’re seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind-
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.
Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you’re destined for.
But don’t hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you’re old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.
Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldn't have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.
And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you’ll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.
I Like TINOS. My Favorite Island ,have a Look Gabi!
That Homer site is fantastic - no restoration, no touristy bells and whistles at all, just left as is, perfect. Seems to be the case with a lot of ancient sites on these islands, awesome stuff.
No words needed
ah, you are back in Greece, ok, by the way I've been dreaming for this moment for a very looooong time . . .
Love this beautiful place thank you so much for sharing this beautiful place keep going on my friend have a blessed journey ahead
I enjoy your journey in our beautiful country! Thank you!
great hike and finding that church was awesome. dude, i really enjoy your vids. safe travels my friend....
Congratulations. I'm so glad this channel is growing so well, great to see a channel get the recognition they deserve.!!!!
10:36 Best guess, this is an "aloni"....essentially a platform on which they laid the grain and animals then went in circles separating the kernels from the hay, with the wind blowing the latter away
awesome my man...such quiet, peaceful and beautiful places..
Fantastic .very nice thank you from kurdstan
Thank you for showing us to the Church.
Amen 🙏 it was peaceful
Churches also abound in Goa, India, in far-out locales that correlates with pilgrimage and sacred journey.
27:21 Translation: 'If you still remember your first love you will love again, dont be afraid. To the playful madness of our youth every love looks like our first'
The Nymphs must be pretty old by now. They need a break. Anyway thanks for something different. I hope to get there.
The old gods of Greece where specialized on a special topic of life, like love, health or sea travel or whatever. If you had a quest for the topic, you had to wander to remote places with temples dedicated to that god, and bring an offering, so the god would see you and help you. Then you promised to bring a gift, as soon as that wish comes true. When the christians took over, they just copied it, and replaced the gods with saints, so it would be easy accepted by the people. People still do offerings and special prayers for blessings at these chapels called Exoklisia, churches out there. (pronounced on the first i)
Gabriel, Greece is amazing it seems. I have never been there. Here in the US half a building collapsed in Miami yesterday. More than 100 people are unaccounted for. Bad structural engineering most likely. Built on a sandy base; that's only one problem. Sad.
I love Greece. But I also do love India, especially Goa Arambol. Waiting for first opportunity to get there as a tourist again.
Thanks for everything man. I'm there with you in spirit.
Cheers from UK.
Jaroslav, I have visited both Greece and Arambol, and found that Eressos on Lesvos is very similar to Arambol at the beach area, so if it is difficult to travel to India it is less to travel to Lesvos.
@@Jayapullani Thanks a lot for your suggestion Jay, I'll definitely think about it ; )
All the best
That view @ the 32 minute mark... Incredible
As always an amazing video You make the best traveling videos bro! And thanks a lot for the advertising and the love that you show to our country! Take care and God bless you bro!
This is my kind of island!
Usually churches built on top of a hill or mountain are dedicated to Prophet Elias (Elijah) who lived on Mount Horeb. The very small chapels that you see on the side of roads or cliffs, are built in memory of a loved one who was killed in an accident, or as token of graditude for they were saved while involved in a serious accident
Hey Gabe you want to go to the other side of the island , and swim in turquoise waters just breathe taking 😀

Some lucky ones that can go and help out😜
As for UK citizens we have very few destinations allowed (for the time being...Madeira, balearics Islands, a few Caribbean islands, Malta, iceland, and few others that are not open to uk citizens or have not got direct flights from uk) i believe Europe is calling restrictions/bans on uk citizens travels in Europe...just saw that Portugal decided to open with restrictions.Meaning pcr test before dep, travel locator form and have both covid vaccines validated by NHS form or you face 2weeks quarantine on entry...Lots of flights are being cancelled we were supposed to leave to Sicily tomorrow but been cancelled few days ago so i think complete ban in Italy right now as Germany France Belgium Netherlands Denmark Norway Austria Switzerland and so on...😒 But in all this as much as i want to escape I understand Europes' concern. Nonetheless we are still planing to go to Portugal 🇵🇹 shortly being fully vaccinated
Voilà for the update Gabriel and as for Uk entry, restrictions are in place...between Covid and Brexit and depending where you're coming from, which passport holder, where your flight transited and where you where at last 2 weeks...?It's a ball ache, really not worthy of a visit 😉 AND government is changing rules all the time so you never know whats up next🤯😳 ...
Been rewatching Chris & Carols Portugal vlogs in the meantime😊!

Thank you Gabriel! Always love your videos of beautiful Greece! 😎😊❤☀️🌊stay safe and can't wait for more videos! 😊❤
I love travelling and especially Greece and Im from UK but dont want to get the jab due to its experimental nature- check VAERS and yellow card reporting also for vax deaths , 1000s already. Hoping governments will stop ALL these restrictions as its pure discrimination
It's a roadside chapel, perhaps of a local saint. And you do the same thing the people do, take hikes and remember the local saints (and this is done in all Orthodox lands, even up into the Balkan Peninsula. Up to Vienna,in fact. .Thanks for the travel tips; you help to save the season! Ithaka is also a goal for many, not merely tourist pilgrims.
fascinating. Great Hike and fascinating history. Thankyou for the hike and video!!
Within every church there is Gurdian Angel. This means protection for the whole area. Are u sure the nymphs are human friendly? Look for the Holy Spirit in Greece...it's everywhere...to open hearts...
Ithaca is another scenic island.
