He told me that travelling to other countries, when you live in the UK or in Europe, is like to travelling to another state in the United States.
@@atlantic_love Distance wise probably, the USA is a massive country but in all other aspects not so much. see we don't speak the same language and our cultures are quite distinct from one another. Though when I as a Greek travel to Southern Europe I feel very much at home even if I can't understand the language.
Epidavros theatre is such a treasure. The place where so many thousands plays were presented, the place were drama, tragedy and comedy came to exist. The leaps made in ancient Greece are mind boggling.
I traveled two weeks last summer driving around in all the cities mentioned in the film, Monnemvasia is absolutely my favorite, and the driving cute from Nafplio to Mommemvasia on the mountain with sea view most of the route is one of the most beautiful routes! People from Greece are just SO nice, will visit more of Greece for sure!

My ancestry on my Mother's side is Greek. Both my Grandmother and Grandfather were born and raised in Sparta and Athens. They both came to America in the early 1900's. I am more Greek (50%) than English and love my Greek heritage! We celebrated many Greek traditions with my 12 Greek Aunts, Uncles and their families. Wonderful memories from times long gone... I'd visit Kalamata city beautiful area and Methoni/Koroni in Peloponnese. For some reason they never mention these areas but very beautiful areas. Greece has always been one of my favorite places to visit with my family as a kid and even now as an adult.

The Peloponnese has it all! Beautiful nature, amazing cultural heritage and archaeological sites, great food and very friendly people (and fewer tourists, which is great!). Absolutely worth touring it :-)
Greece is just so so underrated, compared to its European counterparts. It offers such wonderful historical sites and information of the past that it gives tourist a feeling that the country is a field trip for those interested to know more of its ancient history, culture, and military prowess.😊
I been in Atkin Zatrika on the other side Greece with my partner for a week holiday. I loved the historical and the scenery and the water is so clear. I wish I could go back again and see more. Thanks Rick you did such a good job.
Pelopennes is in 19 century before was morea whas Populated by Albanian (Arvanits) the church greek they changed the name to pelopennese and created new language who is greece now!!!!
Was really surprised to see Kardamyli. I went to school for 6 years there, being a local and all, so it keeps surprising me how fascinating outsider find these places to be; the same exact places I would drive around on a bike, or spend time drinking fizzy drinks and eating souvalkia with my buddies, in the most casual of manners. At 10:19 u your comments on understanding are a perfect part of a glorious tour. I remember being surprised by how small and unpretentious the fabled Lion Gate was. but how magnificent all the other aspects of Greek civilization were. Just got back from our happy place, Rhodes ❤ Your rate about the British people being overweight and embarrassingly so, and it makes you wonder what other nationalities think of the British in general, if they can't look after themselves. Id love to move to Greece, and maybe try a few months Just to see that it's not just a holiday thing. As for the Greek people, they are a friendly bunch, curious in a good way, unlike some other people of various countries. They are also very family orientated, which is great to witness nowadays. ...the Peloponnese is much better choice than time consuming island hopping...just more to do..more and lest crowded beaches, underground river and cavern ("Styx"), famous ancient ruins, Byzantine & Venetian castles and churches, Corinth, Sparta, Epidaurus and Olympia ...if you have only a week or two for Greece... I highly recommend the Peloponnesos above all else...
I think that no visit to Peloponnese is complete without a visit to Mystras. So along with Olympia, Epidavros, Mycenae, Nafplion, Monemvasia, one has to visit Mystras also.
Yes, but Steves said he chose not because there are many ruins, not in good condition. When Mystras is preserved better with buildings that are in bad condition renovated it will be one of the best places and towns in the world. A place to film Game of Thrones. A true Byzantine city. Also I would put Methoni and Koroni, and perhaps some of the villages of Arkadia such as Dimitsana or Karitaina. And the Diros cave one of the best in the world. And Pylos! And perhaps a little across to central Greece to Nafpaktos :) :) And the ancient Corinth and natural baths of Loutraki.
@@nicolaskottis5245 Mystras is a whole town. No buildings have been renovated except the churches and even the palace-complex renovation is not complete. But most important the residences of the town are not renovated.

@@innosanto The palace of the last Byzantine emperor has been renovated and most of the churches also. Mystras is in a good contition now.
